sorry it is acting awful...LOL
June Blooms 2
Love all the pictures of streps!
I wish I had taken a vacation, Lin, in going to Mexico. We left early this morning and just got home. Progresso is about the only border town that is still safe although I never get used to the military and police with assault rifles on every corner of town.
We parked my car before the international bridge and walked over to get meds and eat a late lunch. If I had an accident in my car not only would my insurance not pay for the damage but I might be sitting in a Mexican jail until I could bribe someone (LOL). Fortunately it wasn't as hot as it can get down there.
I have to email Jannich and tell her that I found her long string of garlic she wanted if I went! Not sure if she plans on eating that much garlic or whether she is trying to get rid of evil spirits ^_^
Glad you are home again, Brenda. I think I must just be a 'natural born whiner' as your snow looks mighty good to me in our 100 degree weather.
Pretty Streps Susan....Gail I would have probably been scared silly had I been along with you..lol...I think my problem is I watch too many movies about things happening like that..oh..I would bail you out too : )
Susan, wow..........how many kinds of streps are you growing these days, woman!!
Thanks for both your offers to bail me out next time (LOL) The problem in Mexico is bail money means nothing to them. You have to know someone very important with lots of money..............lots more than bail money in the US.
I am very obedient and behave myself on the border town of Progresso. The other border towns are waaaay to dangerous to even set foot in. There is such a war going on with the Mexican Mafia and the Feds.
My sister in law wouldn't go with me as she is too afraid. I figure no one wants to mess with an overweight old granny. When you come back through customs, they have a list of medicines and other drugs that they ask you specifically if you have. Glad I didn't have any pain killers like Percodan, etc.............the list was long that they called out to me and included even meds like vallium, etc...........
I think 'my tired' just hit hard and I am going to bed..........see you all in the morning.......
I have allot of them now ... .I am happy to say... I just love them.. They are just so pretty.... Now Gail who said anything about money getting you out... With 4 sons and one husband we have a small gun shop here I was loading the shot gun and coming to get you... Shoot if that did not work was loading the Elephant gun next...LOL I believe in a person being able to bear arms...LOL Then I would bring the Marines next to get you as my son has some pull there... But since you are nice and safe in your home I will keep the gun case locked.... ^_^
Hugs,
Susan
One day I will have to sit down and try to make a list... I am done buying after this next batch comes.. I took the money from the dead England plants and believe it or not my husband and I went shopping online at Brenneas and bought plants...LOL I have plenty now and I would like to start growing from leaves again as I did in the begining and now have to try again... I love seeing them pop up from the leaves.. Then I can share... I like that part also... but time will tell...LOL
Hugs,
Susan
I have more pictures but don't want to kill the site with posting...LOL
Oh Susan, lots of awesome streps!! So pretty...... I'm laughing over your shot gun rescue of Gail in Mexico, I could get my guys to crack open the gun cabinet on that kind of mission too! LOL
I've taken a few pictures since getting home, some new, and some old favorites....
Jealous Heart grown from a leaf Rain sent me last fall ....

Hugs,
Susan
Beautiful as always Brenda..wow how do you get so many blooms on your kohlerias? I am happy if I can squeeze out 1 or 2 on my plants..lol..your Emily Roberts is incredible! Oh goodness for what its worth I would take your cool temps any day over the heat..the snow..not so much..we deal with enough of that here..lol..luckily none in June tho : )
Got to get moving this morning but loving all the pics! Thanks, girls, for your offer (should I ever need it) to get me out of a Mexican jail. Too funny thinking about it!
Susan, I used a new mix for some leaves that Brenda and I traded. It may take longer for babies but the mother leaves are standing tall............good sign. I just used perlite, vermiculite and a big handful of soil less mix.
Cedarnest,
Do you have that fertilizer from Hill Country African Violet that is a 12-36-14?? If I didn't send you some, I will. I don't know if that is what Brenda is using or not, but it really works . I use it every single time I water or fill the reservoir.
Gail your strep leaves look great! Sounds like the same mix I used for my last bunch of leaves..so far they are looking good..I did notice this time of year any I tried to start with straight vermiculite quickly rotted..lol....thats sweet of you to offer to send me some fertilizer..I will nose around town and see if I can find some thats 12-36-14 and if I can't I just might take you up on your offer..lol..I have been using vf-11 on my kohlerias and that just doesn't seem to be doing the trick..I would love to have the great blooms on mine that I see on the ones you all post pics of....
nancy, I have another box going out tomorrow.........I will send you the fertilizer as I am getting more the weekend of July4th when I go with my daughter and son in law to pick up the kids from camp. I go right by that nursery on my way.
It has no urea in the nitrogen........a must for gessies..............do you want some strep leaves, too........and try your hand again............
Gail that is so sweet of you to offer but not necessary ....I should be able to find that fertilizer ratio locally I would hope..I have 2 trays of leaves I am trying to start now from trades plus I will be sending you your leaves next month from our trade...I better not try and start anymore until I see how I do with these.....
OK................wait on my leaves as long as you want and then you will be ready for more leaves..............you might check the orchid food.........I think it is close to the same ratio without urea in it..............then I could send the fertilizer if you don't find it..........
Well Susan if the reason your boys have a gun cabinet is because they like to hunt then they will fit right in with my guys! ^_^ My guys are golfers too ..... And we'd have STREPS!! LOL
Nancy it's a real trade off ..... long snowy winters that last forever = mild and very short summers! I'm not sure it's worth it but DH isn't going anywhere! LOL Emily Roberts is my only Kohleria that preforms so beautifully! The rest give me the same two to four blooms at a time.... I use VH 11 most of the time with a shot of the good stuff from Gail about every 6 weeks.
My nearly always cool weather also means it takes for ever for me to get babies up on leaves!! It's spring and I expected some fast turn arounds on the streps leaves I put down ........... but NOT! They're not rotted though so I'll keep waiting ..... and waiting some more.....
I'm doing your mix next time Gail as although mine have rooted in the straight perlite and haven't rotted I think it gets a tad too dry for them before I realize they need some water .... something else that's slowing them down I'm sure.
Any plant I have has to survive in a cool house and on lots of neglect and that bodes well for most of them I guess .... ^_^
This is a basic green hoya carnosa that was started from my grandmothers plant. These are it's first ever blooms, I like the contrast with the pine trees outside ....
Neat, are you going by Boerne, Gail? That will be fun. I can't wait to go again. Will be a while until I can travel. Fun to look there.
Nice to see you here Sally! Glad all is going well even if it is slow going!
I also received sinningia AC 1503 in the trade box from Jan and it now has three buds on it!!!! There is a bigger bud hiding under the leaves and now two new ones on top! I'm excited .... with beautiful foliage to boot!
~Brenda
Keyring if your cruising by ..... here is my sinningia Leucotricha grown from the seeds you sent ...... I am finally seeing my "kittens ears"!! LOL Love them!
~Brenda
Nancy and Lin.......I'm going to show a fuller view of sinningia Leucotricha as you both have the siblings from of this plant. You can see that it is the top leaves that are getting really fuzzy!
This happened after I followed both Ki and Bonnie's advice to get my sinns closer to the lights! They are maybe 4 to 5 inches away from the lights now. It's done wonders for all my sinningias!
~Brenda
Well...I lost my long post....guess I was so busy reading and typing that I missed my computer's little note box to me that it was going to re-start and update unless I pressed the wait button!
SO, long story short!...Great photos everyone! I love variegated foliage too. In any kind of plant!
SNOW IN JUNE?! wow Brenda! Since I don't like cold I think I'll take even my 100 degree weather we've been having the last couple of weeks! Love the 'kitten ears' too! ANd love the Bonnie & Clyde!
Susan - What can I say other than you have the Strep thing down PAT! Beautiful blooms dear!
So funny about helping out Gail! I would send my husband to help you too Gail! He has a pretty good collection as well and is ALWAYS looking for a good excuse to play 'cowboy'! LOL
Dimmer- Love the Vampire's Kiss! And no not every one has that one! It's one I plan on buying as soon as my life settles down a little. Right now my plants are lucky to get a drink of water on the correct day I have set up for them. But things are finally slowing down a little at work and we are going back to regular hours next week. YEA! Hopefully no more getting home at 7:30-8:00 at night ugh
