Well, somehow, I didn't get this thread watched. I just spent an hour looking through everyone's wants and haves and my eyes are bleeding! You can bet it will be watched now.
I won't make a list, but you are welcome to look around my yard. http://albums.phanfare.com/4856019/2146898 If you see it and want me to root you some cuttings, let me know. I will do my best to get them started for you. If no one speaks up, I"ll probably just bring whatever I can find that will fit into a pot.
I'm really looking forward to being there and seeing everyone. We'll come down on Friday morning and probably stop by Randy's to drop off plants. Then come back on Saturday morning.

Houston Area Plant Swap and Social Trade List
Janet, you know that everyone is going to want a rum runner hibiscus after watching your slide show...or at least I do. They are beautiful and facinating. I can't wait to meet you!
Tabitha
Thanks Madrid. There are many that will be going that I've never met. I'm so looking forward to putting faces with names.
I will try to take some cuttings from the Rum Runner. Hopefully they will be rooted by the time we get there.
Knolan, I have the clerodendrum 'musical notes' and also have never tried to get cuttings. I bought mine from Jerry Seymore -Jerry's Jungle. His sale is this weekend 4&5th. He lives on Hill St. in North Hou. Maybe you could email him and ask about the plant???
jana
Thanks Jana! I'll google him and see what I can find out.
I was able to email Jerry and unfortunately, he doesn't have any for sale right now. Bummer! I have a spot for 2.
Ive seen them on Ebay...
Caren
I was able to process an order with Wayne at Zone 9! Yeah!
Knolan, are you going to be able to pick them up on the 26th or is he mailing them? Also, does anyone know if we will be able to purchase plants on the tour of Top Tropicals ? I surely hope so !
jana
Oh now that would be nice!!
He's mailing them.
Oh yes, you'll be able to make purchases. I can't tell you how much we all bought last year but it was a lot!
GREAT !!!! I will have to save some moola' and not spent it all at Jerry's this Fri. I will go to his website and try to find what I really want.
jana
Oh no...I'd better start saving up now! Lol....
Janet,,, I would love a cutting of RumRunner if you are able to get some.
jana
Christi, Wayne has musical notes.

Randy, are you speaking of the mosquito warning? It is dated June 9.
LouC
Randy - I placed an online order thru him last night. Bought 2. Thanks!
That's terrible about the mosquito warning. Any updates?
It looks like only one case of west nile has been reported.
Here are the two links I found if you want to check out the 2008 cases and zip code reports.

Randy, I have several questions that may sound silly but I was wondering? Do you have plenty of parking space or do we need to park somewhere else???,,,, and on our tour of Zone9, do we take cars / walk and do we need wagons to bring our goodies back??? You can surely tell this is my first time.
jana
unfortuneatly the reports aren't going to do us much good at this juncture in time. The mosquito outbreak has occured this week. It is pretty bad, even if there are no diseases. Granted we are Texans and can deal with a few mosquitos, but I'm sounding the warning because there are more than a few mosquitos out right now, it's pretty miserable just watering. They're population can increase or decrease significantly in a few weeks so it's a gamble.
I will cancel this if the mosquitos are as vicious as they are now. be advised.
Jana,
we will walk over to Zone9, and you can either bring wagon for goodies, or Wayne will deliver them in his truck to my place- or you can drive over there and pick them up. His place is 3 blocks from my place. My driveway will be free of vehicles for loading and unloading. Even though there are plenty of parking on 10th street, 101/2 - there still were a surprising amount of vehicles last year. I think we were all surprised
Don't worry, Randy- you live close to White Oak Bayou, not the West Nile.
Now if you can convince the mosquitos
Ok. I've been lurking...trying to decide if I can clear up my calendar to join you guys. Not sure if I can make it at all, and if I come, I might not be able to stay very long. But, I sure could use a brownie! The last brownieI had was last year at Randy's RU!!!! See how far a good brownie will carry you??
I have a humongous favor to ask you guys. I didn't manage to get any tomato seedlings started in time for my fall plantout on August 1st. By chance has anyone started any black cherry seeds or any early season 'maters? I'd truly appreciate getting maybe 2 of each. I only need four seedlings for the fall crop. LMK, and thanks in advance for any help.
P.S. If I see that I can come, should I consider bringing that detestable crockpot full of greens again?
Yes, please, Linda!! I'll trade you: my brownies for your greens. ^_^
No one has tomato seedlings??!!
mmmmm ...greens...
I usually grow tomatoes in april..mine are long gone
I've given up on anything that starts with the letters s-e-e-d. I just kill them, and it's depressing. Having said that, does anyone want some Alstroemeria seeds from Ursula in Chile?
mine are long gone too.
maryland I would please. Do you know the color or colors?
Thanks,
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
I have 8 different kinds, Sandy. I'll bring them along and you and whoever else might want some can poke through them. :-)
Marylyn, I would like some also. Thank you,
jana
Ok, Jana. :-)
well I have heirloom tomato seedlings but they are coming up in the ground where I planted them...already...all med or cherry size ....
Sandy, got you tagged for the hibiscus & banana seedling.
Good/bad news. Will not be able to attend the RU at Randy's and that is truly a huge disappointment. Long, boring story but have been having back trouble for a long time. Finally saw the surgeon yesterday and after numerous tests between now and then, will have laminectory w/fusion in the lower lumbar on July 31st. Have done everything I can think of to avoid it and I will have to learn to be crippled if I don't finally go ahead with the surgery. It is a common thing done hundreds of times a day...but, this time it is on ME. lol AlohaHoya, Carol, has just had the same surgery and she is doing well. I expect the same just will be sort of slow for awhile.
I know I will be missing the "party of the year" but there is always another time. Haven't told Randy yet, but he will may just get to come stay and take care of the garden. Most of it is what he provided and this is zone 8, and they will need lots of TLC before it gets cool weather. Worst part of this, is to not lift more than 8 pounds for 3-4 months. yuk! Who has a pot of dirt that doesn't weigh more than that? Poor Mike. Honey, would you move this, Honey, would you move that, no, over here.....
Christi
Good luck, Christi and take it easy on Mike. Jim
I have a question for ya'll- The whole swapee attendance
Wayne and I were talking about doing a short 30 min or so, informal workshop the day of the swap after the zone9 tour. We're throwing around different subjects, and which of these is important to the majority of gardeners that will be at the swap. Realizing that we could talk all day about such things, keep in mind we want to keep the informal workshop something fun, and not too long about 30 min.
Right now leading the list in subjects is 3 different Gardeners talking about their propagation techniques, what is more successful, what is not. I noticed that when I went over to Waynes he had his methods which I had never seen, and the same going over to others gardeners places..so I thought it would be interesting to compare some notes with Wayne and another friend of mine Mike and share our methods, failures and success.
I so wish I could take everyone over to Mikes garden. It is a botanical marvel situated near Belaire on two lots of land like many of us city gardeners dream of. www.mikenature.com -
Other subjects were - successful pest control.
Bubba has suggested Planting medium - soiless medium - what amendments to make.
Any feed back ? subjects...? Does this sound interesting? Stick to swapping and socializing?
Rj
The more I read, the more "poor me". I could get through this whole thing pretty easy, if, if, if I were not missing the best party of my life. Booohoooohooo.
It sounds super fun to go see Mike's place too. I would LOVE a class on propagation! As a newbe I was also interested in getting some tips on transplanting and protecting plants so they don't look half dead after a round up, but maybe that's just me that has that problem. There was a great article a few weeks ago on how to wrap the roots for mailing plants, but more information never hurts. I am also curious as to how ya'll cover/wrap your plants to protect them from frost or do you just move everything into a green house? I could think of a few more topics, but will leave it at that for now. Gemma is sitting on top of the table so that is my cue to get off the computer.LOL
