Whats Blooming outside your door part 3

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

katie & pixy. The poppy pods were screaming at me to do something with them while they dry out for seed collect. It's fun. I like the idea of making clothes for them...

The lavender rose is very fragrant..but did not remember the name
last night..and did not want to hang around to long to check the marker. If the spider is not in sight later today..I will get the name
for you.
Pixy.. I saw a picture last night of Baptisia australis in the prairee moon catalog. Mine is so different..it may be a baptisa..but a different variety..will continue the research. Hopefully I can figure it
out.

Don't sweat if, Beahive. It's just a pretty one.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Pixy.. I would like to know what it is for my own records & sanity and if possible get more to put in the front yard..or collect seed and start some more & share etc..

On the list of NOIDS to research... Ahhhh!

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

Bea... is it Baptisia Twilight Prairie, it certainly looks like it... I have Purple Smoke and Australis and it looks very similar but T. Prarie is darker...

Poulsbo, WA

Bea, those poppy pods are truly delightful. What a great wit you have!
Can I borrow the idea? Well, of course I would actually need a poppy pod
and my poppies are poopy this year. How about a dress the pod photo contest?!

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Okay. I'm going out to draw on mine.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Two people are out walking when they notice the poppy pod people in the garden they are passing.

One of the nods sagely, "Yes, you can always tell one of those DG'ers by their poppy pod people."

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

Wow...busy week with no time to check in and so much has happened! Lots and lots of beautiful flowers posted here. It's still be kinda chilly and not very sunny here so things are still quite a bit behind, so I've taken a bunch of pictures of buds on plants and am starting a new thread called "Anticipation!"

I did, however, finally find the macro on my camera and do have some stuff blooming of which I took pix.

Freesia is finally opening up and smell absolutely divine! Got a bag from Costco or WalMart or Home Depot which said "Pastel Mix." Here's the purple

Mimulus from Pixy last April at Hostajim's! Sure glad I adopted this one. Thanks Pix! (The other is only starting to bud)

This columbine is part of the McKana's Giant/Nora Barlow escapade. The color in the picture is not quite true as the flash went off. It's nearly black and quite an odd looker, but I really like it!

wow, you have some beauties there!
It must be drier up there, half of my blossoms have rotten petals.
I have some Laurentia in my walk way, and thanks to you, it is no long unidentified!
What does NOID stand for? No ID?

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

And I've been trying and trying to get a good picture of this one ~ saving my favorite for last. Now that I've found the macro button I finally got the shot I've wanted. Saxifrage, adopted from my first GE and from whom I can't remember, but thank you!

oo, oo, oo, save me some seed of the columbine pretty please!

Poulsbo, WA

Super macro on the Saxifrage! It has a face, too, like the phals.
So pristine it reminds me of some kind of trendy Japanese graphic design.

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

I have presumed that NOID does mean No ID, but I could be wrong. I've just nodded politely and smiled and wondered why everyone has so many cultivars of this kind of NOID and that kind of NOID.

The laurentia was planted as very small 2" plugs last year and are now spreading/mounding about 18"+! I really like it but the ones in the shadier part of the bed aren't quite as vigorous.

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

EGAD! I didn't notice the face in the center until you mentioned it! That is so cool! Just went and checked out all my phals and Holy Moly! They have faces, too! Wow!

Poulsbo, WA

Glad I am not the only one on the NOID cultivars!

I had some nice areas, like yours, but DH had a yard sale and people smooshed them.
I salvaged as much as I could, but I made the mistake of putting it in shady areas,
so lost most of it. It reminds me a tiny purple spring flower in the South, the first one up was always picked and pressed onto a card. I guess I really loved them. I think my mother called them Johnny Jump Ups, but that does not seem to match with what I usually see called that name. It just grew wild in the grass.

I got some little pansies from my iris farmer friend over Memorial Day weekend which she called "Johnny Jump Ups." I've heard the name as well but never knew what they heck they were! This is what she gave me. . .(sorry this one's a bit blurry)

Aren't the faces amazing! I decided that is one of the reasons they call them moths.
I'll see if I can find some of my fav shots (all of my orchids are gone now, too fussy)
but at one time I used to come home each year from the seattle flower and garden show with my arms full on the ferry ride. Another addiction that has become history. ;)

I think this one has a goofy face.

The faces almost look like a bird of prey up close.

Yep, that is a Johnny Jump Up, but what we had in the South was a teeny flower like the Laurentia.

I completely understand the addiction. It's what really got me started gardening outdoors! Never had any orchids until my mom gave me one she got as a gift several years ago which has failed to rebloom for her. She thought I could help it along (not), but kinda got hooked. My yellow dendrobium is done for now, I think, and my 4 of my 7 phals still have blooms. I love the one you posted...never have seen one that color! Thinking I may have to procure ?!?!

cocoajuno..I think you solved my mystery again.Sure looks like Baptisia 'Twilight Prairie Blues' that I googled. Thanks..1 down many more to go for ID.

neofarmer..please feel free to make as many pod people as you like. I think your idea of dress the pod contest would be fun. Let us know if yo start a thread.

Outta. I really like your mimulus. So cool with the spots... I really like
your doggus giganticus. What a love!
