This Salvia called memorosa sensation rose was the prettiest salvia I have ever seen. The camera does not quite capture the richness of this royal purple/blue color. Wonderful...will be trying to find seed for this one...
Whats Blooming outside your door part 3
Hello Bea,
They had the wrong tags again, the Salvia Nemorosa Sensation Rose is a pink flowering Salvia. I believe your picture is Salvia Nemorosa May Night, I grow both and when they are blooming I will make sure you see a picture of May Night so you can tell me if this is it...if it is I can probably get you a rooted piece. I love Salvia and there are so many cultivars and all are beautiful in there own right.
Bea ~ As usual, outstanding pictures. Thanks for sharing. Love the microcosm under the gunnera.
Pixy ~ That little frog is about the teeniest thingy I've ever seen! Ours are not that small at all. Most are 1" to 1-1/2" long and some are as large as 2". I was doing some yard work at my mom's and she had a couple that were orange and green and, dangit, I didn't have the camera. They were about the coolest looking little guys (gals) around!
Carla ~ Nice iris. If you just glance at the picture without clicking on it, it kinda looks like a duck!
I have renamed my Iris "Daffy" thanks Outta...still waiting to meet you! It will eventually happen I am sure of it???
Bea - if the stems were dark purple, then it is Salvia n. 'Caradonna' and grows taller than 'May Night" and wider. Spectacular in bloom - both cultivars do well here.
I am really confused about that Salvia. There was no pink salvia in this area only this dark rich blue/purple one. The marker indicated as shown in the picture the Salvia memorosa.
I think it is a conspiracy to confuse me. Actually, I was not impressed in the overall condition of the gardens this visit.
I go to enjoy and learn..and when plants have no markers,or are mis-marked and no people around to answer questions it makes it hard to learn...
cocoajuno & katye.. I willl take your suggestions under advisement and do some research on both. Armed with info on both the 'Caradonna' & 'May Night I plan to go back to the OG and see if I can get one of their "people" to straigten this out.
Thanks for the help...

Bea,
I grow Caradonna also, so I will post pictures for you and you can decide which it was....lol
My yard is full of Salvia and Agastache too, I have many secret plantings around every corner...sedums pop out here and there too!
Hi Bea,
lovely photos, again... :)
The weird curly thing I think is a Cyclamen in the process of going dormant for the summer. The other iris-y one with the yellow flowers might be a variety of Sisyrinchium-take a look at this one: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2188/
...and the gorgeous salvia-I'd agree with Katye on her suggestion of Salvia nemerosa 'Caradonna' as well.
Pix, cute frog, too.
Bea, another set of wonderful photos!
I have both the may night and the caradonna, and it looks like caradonna to me.
Aren't the cyclamen's funny when they curl like that! I had quite a few at my old home,
but I don't think any of them made the move to here.
susybell, good call!
Pixy, that tiny frog on the huge lily pad is a classic!
Carla, does the white part of your dutch iris have a soft lavender shade?
I had about 30 blooms this year, and that horrible wind and rain storm laid them down flat. :(
All of my plants for cut flowers are grown for big bouquets that I take to church on sundays
but this year I have been forced to use my back-up silk flowers most of the time. I did get one bouquet of purple and orange tulips, chartreuse euphorbia blossoms, and the new growth from a diablo ninebark. It was purdy. :)
It is zone 9, potted and thrown in the greenhouse...
I am so bad tonight...lol thank you so much Pixy for the compliment, I am here and my brain is in Arizona...so is my heart...sigh
I am sorry if that last post looks rude, I didn't mean it that way, I was just answering your question as I would if you were in the room....

Oh Bea,
You would not regret the 'Hot Lips' it is a very pleasant well behaved Salvia. Is this your 1st year with Piilu? It seems to take a little longer to settle in, of course I got it as a seedling in a 4" pot as an experiment..lol
Last one from yesterday, an ordinary snapdragon who keeps coming back, I still love to make them chatter!
