Whats Blooming outside your door part 3

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

This Salvia called memorosa sensation rose was the prettiest salvia I have ever seen. The camera does not quite capture the richness of this royal purple/blue color. Wonderful...will be trying to find seed for this one...

And for you Hosta lovers..check out this ..They were HUGE!

My favorite of the day was this 400 year old White Oak tree.

Hello Bea,
They had the wrong tags again, the Salvia Nemorosa Sensation Rose is a pink flowering Salvia. I believe your picture is Salvia Nemorosa May Night, I grow both and when they are blooming I will make sure you see a picture of May Night so you can tell me if this is it...if it is I can probably get you a rooted piece. I love Salvia and there are so many cultivars and all are beautiful in there own right.

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

Bea ~ As usual, outstanding pictures. Thanks for sharing. Love the microcosm under the gunnera.

Pixy ~ That little frog is about the teeniest thingy I've ever seen! Ours are not that small at all. Most are 1" to 1-1/2" long and some are as large as 2". I was doing some yard work at my mom's and she had a couple that were orange and green and, dangit, I didn't have the camera. They were about the coolest looking little guys (gals) around!

Carla ~ Nice iris. If you just glance at the picture without clicking on it, it kinda looks like a duck!

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

I have renamed my Iris "Daffy" thanks Outta...still waiting to meet you! It will eventually happen I am sure of it???

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Bea - if the stems were dark purple, then it is Salvia n. 'Caradonna' and grows taller than 'May Night" and wider. Spectacular in bloom - both cultivars do well here.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

I am really confused about that Salvia. There was no pink salvia in this area only this dark rich blue/purple one. The marker indicated as shown in the picture the Salvia memorosa.
I think it is a conspiracy to confuse me. Actually, I was not impressed in the overall condition of the gardens this visit.
I go to enjoy and learn..and when plants have no markers,or are mis-marked and no people around to answer questions it makes it hard to learn...

cocoajuno & katye.. I willl take your suggestions under advisement and do some research on both. Armed with info on both the 'Caradonna' & 'May Night I plan to go back to the OG and see if I can get one of their "people" to straigten this out.
Thanks for the help...

Bea,
I grow Caradonna also, so I will post pictures for you and you can decide which it was....lol
My yard is full of Salvia and Agastache too, I have many secret plantings around every corner...sedums pop out here and there too!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi Bea,
lovely photos, again... :)

The weird curly thing I think is a Cyclamen in the process of going dormant for the summer. The other iris-y one with the yellow flowers might be a variety of Sisyrinchium-take a look at this one: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2188/

...and the gorgeous salvia-I'd agree with Katye on her suggestion of Salvia nemerosa 'Caradonna' as well.

Pix, cute frog, too.

Poulsbo, WA

Bea, another set of wonderful photos!
I have both the may night and the caradonna, and it looks like caradonna to me.
Aren't the cyclamen's funny when they curl like that! I had quite a few at my old home,
but I don't think any of them made the move to here.

susybell, good call!

Pixy, that tiny frog on the huge lily pad is a classic!

Carla, does the white part of your dutch iris have a soft lavender shade?
I had about 30 blooms this year, and that horrible wind and rain storm laid them down flat. :(
All of my plants for cut flowers are grown for big bouquets that I take to church on sundays
but this year I have been forced to use my back-up silk flowers most of the time. I did get one bouquet of purple and orange tulips, chartreuse euphorbia blossoms, and the new growth from a diablo ninebark. It was purdy. :)

Hey! One of my lousiana iris bloomed this year! I've only had these for about 5 years and never more than a sprinkling of blooms. I don't remember this one ever blooming. Glad I have a photo. It may never happen again.

First brugmansia bloom! Where is NWGordon when I want to brag?

And now for some roses. This one is Jude the Obscure. It has the most heavenly scent you can imagine. I look forward to this rose all year.

Here is Madam Plantier. It has only 1 flush of blooms, but it's worth it and they last a long time. It will be in bloom for about a month. Not bad for a 'once bloomer'.

Look at this color and weep! The Alchemist. I am such a sucker for the apricot-yellow spectrum.

This is a miniature musk rose. I don't have the name of it, it's just a 'miniature musk rose'. It's several years old and has never been over about 2 1/2 feet tall. Nice and thorny, too.

Okay, last one, but I am in a rose swoon!

Pixy,
The Alchemist gets my vote, I love that color! My Brugs are growing but not showing bloom yet that I know of...I really haven't paid that much attention to them...lol
I think your rose needs to come visit my Hibiscus 'Lutea', it has it 1st of many blooms today...

Here is Clematis Piilu, it is double bloom right now and it will have a 2nd bloom later that will be single bloom about 7" around, this has to be my favorite Clematis....2 plants in 1

Thumbnail by cocoajuno
Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

One of many Salvia 'Hot Lips' it is also 2 or 3 plants in one, it is red now, will soon be red and white, and last fall it was white...There is a hummer sucking up some nectar in this one but she/he is hard to find.

Thumbnail by cocoajuno

Ooh! Pretty! I do love that clematis. Is that hibiscus hardy?

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

It is zone 9, potted and thrown in the greenhouse...

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

I am so bad tonight...lol thank you so much Pixy for the compliment, I am here and my brain is in Arizona...so is my heart...sigh
I am sorry if that last post looks rude, I didn't mean it that way, I was just answering your question as I would if you were in the room....

Sounds like a cold weather problem to me! I completely am with you in spirit! However, i didn't realize that throwing my plants would result in such beautiful blooms! LOL!! I'll have to give that a try!

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

cocoajuno..that Piilu is wonderful. I have one still waiting to bloom.
Very excited and now really looking forward to its arrival!! Saw the Hot lips in person at the nursery the other day. Stunning Salvia..now I wish I had picked it up and taken it home. ..maybe next year...:(

Oh Bea,
You would not regret the 'Hot Lips' it is a very pleasant well behaved Salvia. Is this your 1st year with Piilu? It seems to take a little longer to settle in, of course I got it as a seedling in a 4" pot as an experiment..lol

Last one from yesterday, an ordinary snapdragon who keeps coming back, I still love to make them chatter!

cocoajuno..My Piilu is new but I got it from Silverstar. Linda has great clematis. It has already grown and is putting out buds.. Should be a show soon!!
Love the Cheddar Dianthus. Another great flower!

My Peace rose had its first bloom open today with the warm sunshine.
