Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Looks like my new shade garden. All thi big hostas are planted around the trees, Autumn gold,Frances Williams, Big daddy.
I put in some wave petunias to keep the weeds at bay, if the sun ever shines here I'll send pictures.
Tomorrow the men come to plant the Acer Spring Delight and install the fountain. Def. pics. then.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

saw your spring delight again friday afternoon while researching my jm want list for next year. definitely want to see pics of it throughout the season.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I think first leaves in spring are the best, they're light yellow green w/ red tips, leaves darken as season goes on. I don't mind that, I just want those red tips with the Red Rhodies in the background at the same time.
This is how he tree looks now.

Looks good, Bill. How blue is Fragrant Blue? I don't have that one. Many described as blue really are not or are in the early part of the season but turn green.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

very blue - you's like it.

Thanks, Bill.

Great Hostas, Bill--I have not bought any recently--running out of space. My last hosta was Northern Halo, & it's doing well. Did go to Hollandia Nursery today--it's a ride for us, but it's beautifully kept. Nice displays. I had a gift cert. so I bought rosa Carefree Celebration--apricot---fern Lady in Red--hope it's hardy for me, and a lacecap hydrangea---pink---which is supposed to be hardy in zone 5--time will tell!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Robindog. I will need your expertize when you come in August, need to find room for everything, hope we can find something for you that has emerged from the new gardens.

Thomaston, CT

Don't worry about sharing any plants with me--if you have an iris or 2 that's enough--my gardens are pretty full after gardening at the same house for 30+ years!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

even though my honey is going to kill me over the garden crossings order coming in this week.... I just want to thank all my fellow conspirators who MADE ME BUY ROSES (clearing throat - I think it was Pixie)

LOL

I bought from Jackson Perkins and only 2... but my order was delayed AND I GOT A FREE DREAM COME TRUE

SCORE for you onewish

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What did you get from GC? I have an order coming this week too - from the sale. Heuchera, clematis, echinacea, gaillardia and weigela.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Nice choices

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm getting Oranges and Lemons too. Very important - they require very good drainage. I lost all the ones I planted last year due to winter wetness, but liked it so much I figured I would try again - in a better drained spot.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks... HE IS GOING TO KILL ME

:)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

one out of two of mine didn't return.... i am sure a rock pushed up under it... they were both on a slope... no drainage problems there

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I don't think so and consider how expensive it is to get unmarried, it IS cheaper to keep her.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

this is a tree peonie that has a normal (not a great flower) peonie with it. do they graft tree peonies. should i did this up and separate the two - or just cut back the lame one?

or bring it back to where i got it?

Thumbnail by wha
Thomaston, CT

Wow, Bill--that's a new one for me--I say dig & divide--see what happens.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow. Yes, tree peonies are often grafted, but not with herbaceous ones! They were probably mixed in the same pot. I've lost both tree peonies I've planted, so I'm not the best authority but I have read that they do not like to be disturbed once planted. That would prompt me to just cut the other out.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

The tree peony I bought last year was blooming when I bought it, no bloom this year.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Well it has only been in the ground a few weeks so i will "delicately" dig it up and check it out.

Last night i stopped to look at dogwoods at a local nursery - did not have anything other than white Kousa's - entered without my credit card and then had to go to the car - found the liberty, sagea (huge one), another that caught my eye, and a perennial I can't remember the spelling to save my life that has Flowers like a Keria except bigger.

Rockport, ME(Zone 5b)

*Sigh* there is something to be said for being single. I have no one to blame buy myself!

Does anyone have any experience with Ginkgo trees? I "cleaned up" a historic garden in Philadelphia and came home with a couple of Ginkgo seeds, and now the seedlings are about 8 inches tall. I don't know how well they'll do in Connecticut (zone 6-ish). Anyone ever buy Ginkgo trees in the Northeast?

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Drumlin, I know that the ginkgo fruit smells awful. Really awful. I think that there's males and females and you gotta get the one that doesn't produce fruit, but I heard it's hard to tell until the tree is mature. Good luck!
