The male ginko doesn't have fruit, don't ask me how to tell the male from female.
Allison, good thing it wasn't THAT hot for the plants in shipping.
yes.... and bf opened it as soon as it came... put them in the shade and watered... in some areas he is trained well
:)
Weren't you the one who was so worried about how he'd feel about another order? You DO have him well trained!
i doubt that he is trained - he wants something - it's how we think.

not enought ink in the key board to list what i've bought - just know i paid Mr. Visa today and plants and gardening exceeded 1K - ouch
Celeste - that list is just your most recent purchase??
your right - most of the charges from orders on line and just hit after shipping. A local nursery has some very nice butterfly JM's - it is on my wish list - Saturday i'll get one and then that is it! - maybe
Yeaaaaaah Ive said that before
Don't feel bad wha, I passed 1K last month! ...ran out of ink too. ☺
I understand the first step to recovery is admitting your addiction. the second step is stop looking at the what is blooming thread.
I start a 100 ft. rock wall this weekend which should help keep me distracted - after planting the three new hosta's, a perenial, and the yet to be purchased butterfly jm tomorrow.
I am filled with a sense of dread for you Bill.
I'll probably go to the RU next year. i know it doesn't matter that i'm new here - i'll wait a year. not sure how my aaa personality would fit.
ge - if the dread is for the work involved for the rock wall - not to worry - i'm looking forward to it - love playing with rocks!! great book on rock wall building is "The Granite Kiss" anyone who has built a wall knows what that is!!
Does that mean you are a really careful driver? Or that you fix flats for other people?
that took me a second:) Got my AAA yearly invoice yeaterday. Good driver and depends on who has the flat.
Victor, that list is what I have bought since I got home from Fl. at the end of April. DH is responsible for most all the tree's ...I didn't even list the rose bushes and such and forgot a few things too!
Drumlin, there are gingko trees on the Litchfield Green---even though they are males, & no stinky fruit, I collected the leaves for my 4th graders one year & put them in a plastic baggie--whoa--the smell was bad! An instructor of mine said the fruit smells like spoiled butter---the leaves smelled like spoiled something!
I have a dwarf one and it's going fine. I do nothing special.
There's an article in this week's New Yorker Talk of the Town section about how bad the fruit smells, and people complaining. Apparently ginkgo is the 3rd most common tree in NYC!
he didn't get as upset with me as I thought he would have.... 1/2 the order was stuff he likes
;)
Thanks for the Ginkgo advice. I guess I'll just wait until they grow up and see, or maybe it won't be MY problem by that time. I need to fix the rock walls on my property...so I can have more backgdrops for more gardens, of course.
I saw large, old, very healthy ginkgo trees in a park in Southern Ontario, near Niagara Falls. I would imagine they'll do quite well in CT.
I couldn't even begin to list all of what I've bought, swapped, found or received as gifts lately. I did add a couple more roses because they are 50% off at HD. I also ordered some bulbs including saffron crocus(yum!) checkered lily and tulips: queen of the night, darwinchic and something else. When they arrive for fall planting, I'm sure I will have forgotten and it will be a surprise!
If we include receiving plants without paying for them, I struck gold at Kassia's RU!
LOL Me too Harper!
I've had autumn crocus for a few years MissF--it always surprises me when it pops up in the late summer!
Victor and other shrub knowledgeable folks - i was at HD today and they had Ninebark Monlo or Diablo marked 1/2 off from $15. Is that a deal? (Not that i have anywhere to put one.) They were 18" - 24" tall.
thanks...

That sounds like a good price, Amy, provided it's a good, healthy plant.
They didn't look like the rescue plants i usually get at HD... ^_^
Do you know how fast they grow? i think they are supposed to get to 8', but does it take several years?
I don't have it myself, but judging by Summer Wine and Coppertina, I would believe it would not take too long. Mine are 5-6 feet and higher in just two years.
i picked up a couple plants at HD yesterday for no apparent reason other than to hit the 10% off for anything over $50. i think the math came in at a wash. another sunray corepsis that is actually three which will be split and planted together and a variegated salix that has ponk flowers in spring which will go down by the pond.
Off to work on the rock wall... coming along nicely....i'll start a thread on my progress at the end of the week... so far about 12 ft have been added 88 to go ....the "how strong is the wall" test is if I can walk down the top of it with no movement ....so far so good.
Wow, those grow fast, Victor.
i went by the Cheshire nursery yesterday looking for osteospermums and the few they had left were $1.99 for 6" pots and 99¢ for 4" pots. i got 2 kinds of white and a pinkish one i've never seen before. Also a "Silver Mound" artemesia for ½ price, $5.50. It's really leggy, but it looks like it grows back similar to lavender.
Ans a little packet of those water absorbing crystals to try in my outside containers...
It threatens rain here a lot, sprinkles, and blows past.
Yesterday in Cheshire we were caught in a DOWNPOUR, 90 minutes later at home nothing even looked damp.
sigh.
i'm looking for the bat face in your cuphea...
^_^
So far we've had pretty good luck for rain arounf these parts. I don't think I had to water at all in June, and it's the same story (so far) in July. I can't believe that it's July already!!
