Morning Glories 2008 #06

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Finally! I was convinced that the Picotee Mix seed packet from Japan was all Purple w/a few Blue . . . then I see this one this morning! It's not open all the way, but I wanted to get a pic just in case it wasn't open when I get home from work tonite.

Then, I just had to get this shot . . .

That is adorable. Pictures like this make the hard work worth it doesn`t it?

Ooops forgot the picture. This one is a volunteer that came from a Ukigumo x Mt. fuji cross I did a few years ago. I guess it is a Uki-fuji. :)

Nichole, precious little girl and the flowers aren't bad either. lol

Karen, Love the two shades of blue on Uki-fuji.

Oh! Toooooo cute, Nichole! Daughter, granddaughter, neighbor's child? I love your white picotee!!! My 1st seed from Japan was a picotee is dark pink/reddish color. I will have to grow out some more seeds to see what else I get.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Definitely Daughter, Becky! She just turned 2 on May 15.

As for the picotee seeds, I had 6 left - 2 went into a pot w/pineapple mint, the other 4 went into my pig pot on the back porch. There was one bloom that was getting ready to open the other morning . . . it had a red look to it, but when I got home later, it was a normal purple.

I had a Ten Ten bloom that had a stripe on it today. Blooms look a little toasted around the petals.

Another Ten Ten blooms was almost all white.

And this one near the end of the vine was much prettier.

They look good, Becky! My blooms looked toasted as well. I've gotten 2 or 3 seeds from it (vine didn't get very big). I'll give it another week, then maybe start the seeds I collected. I'll put the seeds in a more shaded spot, maybe.

Dracula. Does this one usually bloom during the evenings? Is that how it got it's name orginally from Antoinette?

Mine only blooms during the day.

Becky, I asked her the same thing when I got the seeds from her! She said it's a day-into-the-afternoon bloomer.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks, Nichole! Your little daughter is the cutest! :-) My Ten Ten is getting more shade than the rest of the vines. Maybe mine isn't getting enough sun? I don't know...

This is a bloom from Kohkan. Big ole' floppy blooms!

And here is the entire vine growing and filling out the arbor so nicely. That is one vine from one seed! Hard to believe all this from one single little seed! Love it!!!!

Even though Beth's ebay seeds that were supposed to be "Fuji no Monet" but turned out to be solid purple, they are still really pretty blooms! Both the bees and I have been crossing the blooms from other vines. But I think the bees are beating me every morning because I see pollen all over the petals before I even cross them! LOL! I don't care. It's just a joy to see them every morning all abloom!

This Dark Pink Picotee keeps blooming at the bottom of the vine. The vine reaches to the top of the picket fence. It does produce vines at the top, too! But I always see a bloom or more at the bottom every morning.

Thanks, Becky! Yours are all nice, but this is my favorite: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5095578

I have a hard time chosing a favorite, Nichole. I walk along my picket fence and do the ooooh and awwww each morning. I see one color and then move along to the next and then go back and look at them all over again. LOL! They are just so pretty all of them! I just wished the blooms lasted all day! That would be total perfection, IMHO!

I really like this cross of Rabenda X P. Bush. This is just one of those photos that looks like it should be a painting. Sort of a Victorian style or something!

Becky, all your blooms are really special this yr. I hope I have a few blooms that can even come close. lol

Kittrell, NC(Zone 7b)

I have a couple that I would like to show off. The first one came from a mix from Emma. This one will always have a place in my garden. Only two seeds were planted and she is now only about two ft. tall. Thanks so vey much Emma!!

This one came from a package that I bought. It has turned out completely different. Most unusual.

This is just one bloom! The color is amazing! Almost a double but not quite.

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Meag, the one from Emma is spectacular! And I love the other one too. Beautiful!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

This may not be the most fancy and colorful, but I have just fallen in love with the all-white bloom!

This was yesterday's shot.

Here is this morning's bloom. So far, most of the white blooms are in the back of the fencing, so it's hard to get a straight shot of them . . .

Nichole - I love the Picotee vines! ALL colors! They are just the sweetest blooms, aren't they?! Mine have always been compact in size. They remind me so much of the Japanese growing Bonsai plants. Your white blooms are lovely!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Love all three blooms Nichole. The white picotee is really nice.

Oops, just noticed that the pinks belong to Melanie, sorry about that Melanie. Gorgeous blooms.

Syrumani, I love that white one! Do you have a name for it?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

revclaus - the white one came in a Picotee Mix packet from Japan, so I'm not sure if it has an official name . . . I've been calling it Finally!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Nichole - I think the name you gave it is perfect! LOL!

This one came from Japan as well. It was just titled "JMG Festival Mix". Anyone know what it might be?

This is Dracula! Gotta love that eye color!

Another one from Japan. I don't know why this one was labeled "Mutant Blue Needle Leaf Nanding". It looks kinda picotee, but it's not. Prolific bloomer. This is a wonderful vine! I really like it a lot!

I love this cross from Antoinette! Shibori Purple X Gray Lady. I will be growing out the next generation of seeds too.

I look at the blooms on Kohkan and I think Hibiscus blooms! It has some of the largest blooms of all my MGs that are currently growing. This is one of my favorites! Just elegant beyond words!

Thumbnail by beckygardener

The seeds I received were in an "original" packet. There is also a red on it . . . there are two vines that have not bloomed yet . . . I suppose if one of them is red, the name for it will be the first words out of my mouth when I see it!

Becky - Dracula is a nice one, isn't it?
