Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #46 visit with friends...
Liz is my girlfriend from Ireland..here sister in law Janet spent some time to with Roger and I when she and her hubby Derek got married..I'm friends with a few of the family members...Liz is just devastated..
OMG Bev, didn't realize you just lost a grandaughter..21, so very young..my heart goes out to you..must be a difficult thing to lose a child...
went back and read your post...4 grandchildren, how overwhelming, how did you ever get through it? Know, you'll say we're not through it, just in the motion of living but you never get over such a thing.. was it accidents or all illness...will tell Liz you are praying for them, am sure it will be appreciated...
Welcome Terri - This is a really, really good group of people I have been here since back in the winter months.
Thanks to everyone who commented on Emily. She really is a very happy little girl. Yes, to whoever was asking about Plant Swaps. John and I have been to two of them the past month. Our porch is full of things that need to go in the ground. It has been way too hot the past few days, but as Jeannine said, today was cooler. Hopefully tomorrow morning I will make a dent in the amount that needs to be planted.
I wanted to finish reading this thread before I started on the hotdogs that John cooked on the grill a bit ago. I had him grill three packages of them. Love those hot dogs, yum, yum. He also cooked two packages of Polish Kielbasa.
Good to hear from everyone today. Keep those pictures coming Bev and stay away from the ticks. Good grief to 35 ticks last year. Wonder why and how you had so many? Where do you go that you would pick up so many? Must have been a nest somewhere or something. Yuck, I itch for days after finding just one.
Take care and have a lovely evening everyone.
Ruby
Hot dogs, Ruby, want company, I don't cook but would gladly help John clean up...oh Ruby, non of your seeds took, no big leaves for my yard..understand from lurking that the newspaper did an article with John in it? Did I real that correctly..that's what you get for eavesdropping, just pieces mixed up..lol..love the photo's of Emily, so very precious..before you know it, she'll be spending days with you helping you plant the gardens...
Cross posted with Betty and Bev. Betty, I am sorry to hear about your friend. Dear, dear Beverley, I am at a loss for words regarding the tragedy of losing 4 grandchildren. Your poor son. Betty said it, a person with these sorts of losses are some very special people. God Bless you honey. Thank you for sharing this with us, it puts a whole new perspective on the wonderful types of people that are in these rooms.
I am shutting computer off for the day but will check back in early morning tomorrow. Have a good evening all.
Ruby
Betty, would you want me to send you some live Castor Bean plants? I can do that. I am really signing off now and will get your reply tomorrow morning.
Ruby
Thanks Ruby, but don't know they will let them across the border..you know border patrol and all..but thank you..I first started them in the wet paper towerls, and the seed pods opened and thought it would be safe to plant them, but NOT..disappointed to say the least...
Everyone who got seeds, how are yours doing? Please post photo so I'll be able to see just how big mine could have gotten?
Betty am so sorry to hear about your friend's daughter. And Beverly how terrible for you and your family. My heart and prayers go out to all of you.
Went to the bone breaker this afternoon so am feeling better this evening. Every time this flares up I think unkind things about the driver that hit our car. Very unladylike thoughts I might add.
Hey Paul, welcome I've seen you on some of the other threads :) Cool blog!
Received this by e-mail, most likely you've read it, older than the hills, but it's always nice to have reminders...
always known about your flaw, so I planted
flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you
water them.'
'For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful
flowers to decorate the table.
Without you being just the way you are,
there would not be this beauty to grace the house.'
Each of us has our
own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our
lives together so very interesting and rewarding.
You've just got to
take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.
SO,
to all of my crackpot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the
flowers on your side of the path!
Hello lovely ladies.
Welcome Paul. Love your blog and when I read it, I imagined your voice as sounding like Andy Rooney's ....but better looking of course!
Sharr, thank you for your lovely, lovely gifts! I will take a pic soon, and you are the first gf that send me a book of poetry. Have a few in my collection, especially the Golden Treasury editions, but not as special as the one you found for me. Dame Edith Sitwell in it too!!
Also want to wish you a safe trip. Didn't know of Carol's passing. Alaska is a lonng way from Ky, but for a friend, distance is just numbers.
Emily is so angelic, Ruby,
Betty, I just love the idea of wooden signs with our names and miles. Looking at them will just give you the determination to erase the miles between us all!
Think I'll do the same thing in my garden, for my family that's scattered all over the world.
Congrats Gardengirl on you and hubby's goals to lose weight. I have ballooned so much, even my mirror shy away from me!
So sorry to read of your grandaughter's passing Bev, and at such a young age. My mum died of lung cancer. They gave her a year to live. Getting my papers in order so I could be with her for a month, then a call came that she passed away. One month after her diagnosis. Never returned to Singapore, as the Muslims bury their dead the next day.
Laura, I am so glad you got the fabric and that little piece of Americana. Now you can celebrate Red, White and Blue with us.
Hugs to those that I miss, btw Liz, great job on the bowling ball. Kel suggested I send mine to you, cause I've threatened to use it on him ....
...don't want this to go poof before I sign off...
Blessings Galore!
Jaye
The drawback of dial up. Takes forever to post!!!
Lovely Betty. Love my crackpot friends too!!
How are you doing today Betty? Legs not as shaky from the meds?
Greetings everyone! Lost my checkbook so I'm searching high and low tonight. Catch up everyone later.
Well it's that time of night, did my walk around in the garden, always a pleasure to see new heads popping up..tonight my Sweet Williams are saying hello, and the very first time that wild rose has buds opening, but since I've gotten Laura's book and have been reading, as soon as fall come they'll be moved to the back of the property so they can go wild..also the first time I'll have peony blooms, just 3 but that's ok..at the Church Plant Sale I purchased over 20 calla lily bulds, boy are they big, must be alive because each and every morning and evening, there some of them are, sitting on the surface, surely they are much too large for a squirrel to dig up..perhaps it's Sailor..now that's a thought..
No painting tonight, had changed it to Tuesday night when I thought it was today I was going for my test and then had to cancel last night session so I get to relax..about 10 calls are needed to be made, know I should do them tonight but think I'll wait...bed is looking mighty fine right now...
Shar, thanks for the lovely card and book marker..was a lovely thought and made the day special..don't know what I'd do without all my DG friends, seems there is always something in the mail...lol
Jaye, I forget the other gentleman's name right at this moment, you know the one that says 'and now for the rest of the story'..that's how I imagine Paul as well...so cute the way we all imagine someone to be...
Little story, when I worked for American Express many moons ago, was the 3rd. person hired in Ontario and made manager..they had a new initiative back then called "space bank" card members could use the service, first electronic type booking of flights, hotels, cars etc. - late 60's that was quite sophisticated..anyway as manager I would do some travelling to Travel Agencies, meet some of the corporate users...this one Travel Agency which was on Yonge Street, much like any major street in a city in USA, all cities have their 'Yonge Street..let me see can I remember the name, nope, anyway for several years I spoke to this gentleman, had a good working relationship, and I imagine him to be in his mid 30's, tall, a ladies man if there ever was one, just personality galore, (much like you Paul..lol) anyway this one day I called to take him to lunch, would pick him up at the Travel Agency..(all work girls-promise) I walk in, first of all the establishment is in the basement of a large old building, the smell reaked of mold or old books that have been wet, you know the smell, turning up my nose, told the office girl who I was and that Larry and I were going to lunch, out from behind a pile of books was this little old man, walking ever so slowly, looking over round glasses to see me! It was my very first time I think that I realized one shouldn't make assumptions as to what someone looks like...never forgot that meeting...
How did I ever get on to that subject...
ok..
Best of today...no classes tonight, rather tired...
Worse of today..learning that Janet has cancer and only months to live..
What did I learn today..(just erased my 'what did I learn today post'..might have shocked you all...lol
Do hope you've enjoyed your day,
Lord willing, we'll talk tomorrow...
Marion, pray to St. Anthony - patron of lost objects..never fails....
No shaky legs..actually I'd recommend everyone over 50 to get it done, better safe than sorry!
Moving us over to the garden,
Bring along your sun hat, favorite drink and lets enjoy each others company!

Dragon I lose that way too, always inches and never pounds. grr.
Congratulations though,that is good.
I am back on the food wagon and feel better.
I have roses that are so stuck in clay that they never perform after spring. I see they are compacted again so added a lot of My Dr. Don's Magic Compost to it but who knows. I dug one out and moved it, the others are too big to move as they are climbers. Maybe in the winter.
You guys who have good soil are soooo blessed beyond measure.
