Morning, thanks Vicki..I vote for you closing Sundays as well..did you say cement factory, lordy I could have fun using their excess .. have fun working in the garden..love the photo..are you getting any of this unsettling weather...
Liz, actually it's about 5 miles further south in the city, but Paul says he'll get 407 passes in hopes that travelling the extra mileage will be easier..I'm still crossing my fingers though, both he and the owner came to a standstill, if Paul keeps his stand and IF the owner really does need to see (which I think he is-think he's bluffing) then maybe we'd get a call to say ok on the building..we'll see, hope Paul waits 2 weeks before getting the other..his thoughts are changing some of our services and if it's well received, rent a building in Barrie (1/2 hr. from home) and lease one in the city for some of the staff and they could travel from office to office, but the good news is I'd be permanently stationed in Barrie..so not getting my hopes high..we'll see what happens...
Well they are calling for high 80's today..high humidity..only have to work until 1:00 - Kyle and Noah will be coming over for the evening so know it will be Pizza night..lol..no, not homemade...will stop at the little bakery that is open seasonally in Hillsdale and purchase chelsea buns, bread, butter tarts and maybe some meat pies..might be having company over the weekend as some are arriving for Ann & Mike's 40th..won't tell Ann about Evelyn's death until after the event..they also were friends and I'm not sure she would have heard...
On another group (not DG) we're swapping flower pots so I've brought in something I cut out for the pot along with paints and am hoping to have it done by the time we leave, that way it can be mailed out tomorrow...
So off I go before the entire morning is over...
Hope you are enjoying the gardens..
Talk later
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #46 visit with friends...
Betty we had a storm and some rain last night. This morning is windy and sunny. That will keep those pesky skeeters away. So if it clouds over this great morning will make up for it.
Just checking in to say Mornin' Y'all!
Liz that must have been an escapee pet ha?
My gardens have progressed some greatly in the last year. In part because of the lasagna garden and in part thanks to my MIL passing and leaving us a little money so we could make a microclimate on one side and put in a watering system to that part. Part to building raised planters and part to my friends, like Liz and Gloria and Rebecca sending me plants, plugs and seeds, also thanks to Jill Critterologist for her w/s article, it inspired me to try again.
I really owe dg and friends a great deal.
Rebecca told me a secret too that helped with the critters so they stopped eating all my small seedlings. Thanks, I have a long, long way to go but really it is so much better and we atleast have an area or two to admire.
Bev the peonies only bloom once a year like the wisteria and LB rose?
Another hour and I'll be an 'escapee pet' lol gorgeous weekend ahead, a couple of functions, grandchildren spending the evening with me, what more could anyone want...
So what is your plans for this weekend?
WESTERN REGIONAL RU HERE THIS WEEKEND. I HAVE A SNEAKING FEELING THAT DAVE MAY BE THERE TOO THOUGH NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT, JUST IGNORING THE QUESTION.
Wow that will be fun Dawn, is there many of DG members you'll be seeing indiviuals you've never met...
I will, most likely. Last year was my first. I will meet Marie Ortiz again. I saw her in Phoenix in November and look forward to seeing her again and her friend Rodica too.
Met Dave last year, hope he is there again. He and Dr. Don have developed quite a friendship and mutual appreciation for eachother, since Dave made him change the SOCAL, RU to the Western Regional one, I think that says a lot about the quality of the RU.
Will tell later how it went and take pix.
Yes peonies only bloom once a year. BEV
Hmm! Never knew that.
Been cutting grass since I got home early aft. why not it's only 95, sweltering hot, no air so perfect time right? lol
Just got the what for..Greg dropped in as the boys were here since school got out, he was taking them to the movies, he was telling me that he had to go find one of his employees as his Aunt was just killed on HWY 400 coming up north this aft. - I started to preach about road rage, speeding etc. etc. and told him he'd better start watching his speed because if I ever saw him driving over the limit as many of these people do I'd call the police myself...just shook his head, then he mentioned he had to work yet again for a few hours tomorrow and Sunday so I gave him a big lecture on starting to enjoy life, take things easy, not going full blas, enjoy his family/smell the roses etc.etc. - just the things a man wants to hear from "MOM" then the tables turned .. oh oh...he went on and on about why I HAD to be cutting grass in 95 degree weather for 3 hrs. looking exhausted, did I want a stroke, why did the grass have to be done TODAY..are there not more days, cooler days yet to come..why is it I can't stop, put my feet up and rest...yuk..different story when I'm on the other end...then we came to Wednesday appt. he told me he took the day off to bring me and be with me..told him that wasn't necessary that I'd already made arrangements..only have to be there at 12:30 and my girlfriend will drive me and pick me up..WELL he went on and on and on how it was a slap in the face, that my children can take me, that's who should be taking me and where was this appt. which hospital because like it or not he'd be there...lordy/lordy didn't I say it was Friday - a gorgeous day, looking forward to quiet relaxing weekend..lol..so I had about 1hr. left to cut, as he was fixing my hose I started to cut more and he came over, grabbed the lawnmower and shut it off and put it in the shed...well I'm stubborn (guess you'd never have know that right) only a little bit left and it's all done so now that I know he's safely in the movie theatre with the boys (wanted me to go but not my thing) I'm going out getting the lawnmower and finishing the lawn...hope he didn't take the sparkplug out...lol
Oh Betty, I hate when the tables get turned!! I hadn't had that happen to me until their father passed away then it is like we have to take care of the "'lil old lady" HA!!!
Seriously go be careful working that hard in 95 weather!
Just stopping tin to say a quick 'hi'. It's been a busy week but it's over now and I actually think we don't have plans this weekend! I'm all into that!
I got some good news today. Our bed is FINALLY in! It's only been, let's see, almost EIGHT MONTHS! They are delivering it Tuesday. I haven't told DH - wanted to have have him come home and be surprised! I also did a little bargining and they are bringing a queen size bed frame and switching that out with the king frame we are using right now (we won't need it with the new bed). DD can use the queen frame so she is not on the floor! Anyway, I have to call them Tuesday morning to see what time they are coming - so it is actually NOT here YET!
Well, I'll try to pop back in tomorrow. Everyone take care and hugs from me to us!
J
Morning, it's the most gorgeous day out there..a storm rolled through last night so no watering of plants is needed, yard looks beautiful and inviting, have the entire day to myself..might just get dressed and hit a few garage sales, that's always fun!!
Hope it's the same in your neck of the woods..
Isn't it fun 'prettying' up the gardens...I just hung the recycled chandelier (1 of 3) in the secret garden..sat and had coffee enjoying the morning sun...
Decided against going to town yet, will be most of my playing outside done before heat of the day and then I'll drive in..
Once I hung the chandelier I thought why not stencil checkerboard on the seats of the chair and do a bit of painting on the back, then why not pull out a drawer 1/4 ways out in cupboard and fill it with soil and plant it with trailers...yep, think I'll do it! Just having a fun day..still in jammies but that's ok I'm comfy...
Photo from inside the sitting area (about 1/4 of the area...)

Bev, Are you surviving more rain and Wind?? Holy cow, had a hugew tree limb blown off neighbors tree right into my yard. Put a nice gouge into my deck! Fortunatley, fell away from House, Missed my mini house and DH motorcycle by inches.
Waving Hello to Shar and Carol...hehe, everyone too.

GG..Woohoo on finally getting your new Bed!! LOL, are you Lounging around?
Vicki, OH my what a beautiful Columbine!! Geeze, havent even seen mine yet. Did you get wicked wind storm too? My Brother lost power up there. Hope you are well.
Ok well I better get up and DO something. Tired of lazing about. i am WAY behind again...
See you all in a bit. HAVE A WONDERUL GARDEN DAY.
Oh so Pretty Betty!! Nice to relax with coffe and enjoy your beauty.
(we crossed post).
Betty good to hear you are enjoying your garden and thanks for sharing pictures of it. I had to laugh . There you are enjoying that coffee and the mind is planning a mile a minute. LOL
Judy got lots of wind yesterday but no damage here. Further north it took out one od DH's brothers trees and they lost their electric. DH went up there today to do service on the tractors and equipment. One of their sons got married so I sent up a wedding present also. They just went and got married.
Yesterday was a busy day. Have to go to work in a few hours. So not doing much of anything this morning. I hear thunder. Knew we would be getting something from the looks of it!
Bye!
Betty, I think I would just take the day and sit around and enjoy all that beauty! It is so beautiful.
Glad you are feeling better, Seed.
I have the reception at the gallery today, the ladies are excited so I hope they have lots of people. I have to get dressed up, ugh. I hope I remember to take my camera.
Sweltering hot here again....we went from the 70's straight to the 90's with nothing in between. My weeds are in control.
You all have a good day...and GG we have waited nearly a year for that bed.....take lots of pictures so we can celebrate with you.
Enjoy your day......oh, for those who keep up with Gunner, he has taken a turn for the worst, so keep him in your prayers, please.
Later....
Hugs.
Love the secret room Betty. So inviting to just have a cup of coffee and relax. Enjoy.
Seed, so glad your mouth is feeling better and off the meds. Nothing worse than having sore gums and the "loopiness" that comes with the necessary pain killers. Hate it!
Go morning to all for the hot humid south again! Hope the deck wasn't damaged to much by the limb. My chainlink fence has a major "dip" where the top of my neighbor's pine tree fell awhile back. Thank goodness the azaleas cover it.
Stay cool everyone, enjoy the day and be sate.
Had a mosoon of rain this morning with a lot of close lighting but all is well waiting for the next wave Mon. Will never get yard mowed will have to get some goats. Betty I love your garden wish I could have a cup of caffee and just sit there. You all have a great day. I have to up pot some baby hostas for the sale end of month. Hugs BEV
Betty,
In the last picture you posted--which ones are what you call "flax"?
The tall thing in the middle with the blue flowers--Is that a "Witches or Scotch Broom"?
It is so hot today--I am NOT going outside! hate to get all soaking wet as I have to go to work at 3PM.....Don't think there will be too many people venturing out today in all this heat!
Gita
Hello everyone, just dropping in for a few seconds...Ann and Mike are coming to shower/change in a few minutes..it's their 40th anniversary..orginally Ann had asked if she could have it in my garden but the weather was so cold off and on this past month that they opted for the Canadian Legion..Supper is at 6:00 so no need for me to cook, as though I would..lol
Gita, the blue and the maroon is flax..spreads when it likes it's surroundings and so it must do..looks pretty..thanks for all the compliments on my secret garden, can't wait for the hops to cover all the 3 arbors and hide it even more..in this sweltering heat its actually quite cool in it..don't overdo at work Gita..
OMG do you all know how hard it is to sit quietly..don't laugh, it truly is..sat on the swing on front deck, cool out there, nice breeze..made lunch and was so enjoying it, but about every 5 minutes or so I'd think of something to do, say NOT, sit for awhile longer, finally after about 1hr. had enough of that..so off to town I went..needed new curling iron so bought a butane one, short of 'something' for my 'flat envelop' swap, picked it all up so if it's this hot tomorrow and I don't go boating might just stay inside in air and work on my projects...
Stopped at home depot, wouldn't you know it, about 30 plants just made their way into the car..of course, most were for the topsy/turvy planter so got it all planted, plus the nice flower box I painted, didn't quite find same flowers to put in which are on the front of the planter, but I won't tell...
Judy so glad you are feeling better..went and look for LIz birthday date and it wasn't now? am I wrong, sure hope I didn't miss it Liz...
Shar bet you are just gabbing a mile a minute with Ashley..so nice you'll have company..is Ethan visiting this weekend??? Enjoy the gallery / hope you remembered the camera..thanks for the nudge, just got mine in it's case to bring upstairs..would surely have forgotten it..
Oh Bev, love scotch broom, never saw it before, do you get seeds from it? Don't tell the border but just might pick up a plant or two, I'll have so much in the vehicle when I visit Judy and Liz that who will notice a plant or 2...
Judy, have the gps and car is cheap on gas so if that's only how far Vicki lives, we might just have to do a midnight run?
Liz, can't seem to get a perm that stays here..one never knows, might just need you to give me one lol..you know, at 4:30 am when all are sleeping..
Oh Marion, that's still quite a bit of damage though..glad you are o.k. - gardens/decks can always be replaced
Vicki, hope you burn the midnight oil, you never know when the 3 stooges (parden me ladies) might drop in late one night...
Suzanne and Lenny dropped in, made a chandelier for his gazebo, he loved it, at least I think he did, said I wouldn't be offended if it wasn't his thing and he wanted something different..always someone I can give it to...lol
Yes seeds are viable and will grow any way you want to plant them. The plant can get 6x6 ft. and all parts are poisonous. It is differant. I have mine next to a telephone pole in the middle of my long strip garden so no one will be arround it.
I am so exhausted. I went to the home and garden show in Moosonee today. I left the house just after 9 am and returned just after 4 pm - almost a full working day. Sonora was supposed to go with me but she's sick and couldn't go. I went over with a couple friends and we took our nice double stroller. We got a lot of comments on our 'babies' -all the plants we had loaded into the stroller. I took a picture but I'm on the 'other' computer right now. I'll try to post them later. It was really windy today. It wasn't too bad going over in the morning but coming home it was brutal. We stopped off at a grocery store on the way to the docks. We left our stroller outside under the watchful eye of the garden centre attendant. While we were in a small storm blew in. Very strong winds (blew our stroller over) and just pouring rain. I had just finished paying so I ran out to get the stoller. By the time I got it inside the store most of the rain had gone and you would have never known it had rained so hard. I'm so glad we weren't on the river when that happened. It was bad enough coming home anyway with the strong winds and waves.
Now here's the sad part of today. I had the plants that I had started from seeds on our back deck to harden off. About half an hour after I got home it started to downpour again. We were all looking out our open back door enjoying the rain. There was a lightening strike so close it was crazy. Anyway, before I knew it we got the dreaded HAIL!!!!! As soon as I realized I ran out and grabbed my tomato plants and rushed them in and covered the rest of the plants with blankets. I'm not sure my tomatoes will recover though, I'll have to see what happens. I started them extra early too and really babied them. Before you all cry over my loss, there is something good that happened. Well, after I started my tomatoes super early, I was online and found a bunch of other tomatoes that I wanted to try. So (thinking I was very foolish) I ordered a bunch of them and started more tomatoes (because 24 plants weren't enough). Thankfully, my younger seedlings weren't damaged at all by the hail. Thank goodness - especially since nobody sells tomato plants in Moose Factory, only in Moosonee. So the moral of this story is you can never have too many plants (even if people think you're crazy for starting/buying as many plants as you do).
Well, I have a little girl who wants my attention so I better go.
morning garden girl how you doing these days? think of you all the time.. glad your bed is finally arriving,..
Betty!! for goodness sake!! * giving you the mothers eyebrow*.
had the family over last night and it was nice.... did some quilting, must take the pic now its a decent size you will be able to see it better.
My DD is due next saturday so we are all on tender hooks waiting.
Long weekend this weekend so thats great.. get to see hubby...
work is causign problems but you know, she is not worth the worry. so i am just doing my thing....
hugs to all
xx
Oh Gillian, you must be heart broken, to have taken such care with your seedlings only for this to happen...can't wait to see the photo's of your purchases..baby carriage sounds just the thing to have for plant shopping...and Sonora, is she any better this evening?
Laura, so glad you are not letting the boss get the best of you..just do your job, put on a smile .. that ought to get her in itself...look forward to seeing your quilting...photo's please...new baby in a week, maybe sooner, that will certainly be thrilling...
Bev, not understanding, how could you tell just looking if they are viable or not????
Just got in, tired -long day - bed looks mighty comfy..
Best if today? Lovely dinner/dance ..all went well for Mike and Ann's 40th..
Worse of today? muscle in my leg acting up, could hardly come downstairs..had to take one step at a time.. what's up with that? lol
What did I learn? Met an old friend at the anniversary party, almost didn't recognize her husband..had been dealing with cancer...
So night/night everyone..
Hello everyone -- I've been traipsing around the countryside a bit, and I have also been having some internet provider problems -- so we switched sources.
I hope this finds everyone well and I will be trying to catch up soon -- as soon as I finish getting my planting done and finish babysitting grandkids:)
Have a great summer, folks.
T
Theresa
hello thwoods. IP probs seem to be common here. Hate that.
RU was so fattening, I mean fun. Oh my gosh, just a great day. I really had fun, no Dave though. I got up at 6:00 a.m. and got home at 8:00 p.m.
Too tired just checking in.
No, Betty, I can't tell by looking at the seed. I looked it up on plant files hon.Hi all. Glad to have you back T. Missed you. and she took home half the plants in my garden. HA! HA! she says. She and her family are sweet sweet people. We had a very nice visit but too short. T I have a million little trees coming up in my yard and in my flowers. Well gotta get a cup of coffee and wakeup enough to get ready to go to church. Talk later all. HUGS BEV
Having my coffee with you Bev, woke up early/early said to self, go back to sleep you fool, you've everything done for the day! lol So I'm now up and at it..quite humid outside..I'll play outside for a few hours till the main heat sets, might take the boat out or just stay inside and finish a few projects..well see, the amount of my left over energy will decide what to do ..
Bev, so glad you had a nice visit and 'shared' your plants..lol..what a pretty color of purple...aren't you finding Bev that with all this hot weather and humidity the plants are opening much quicker..not sure that's a good thing is it..if it continues most likely blooming will all but be over in July..
Dawn, so tell us what you did, who you met and what you came home with???? How far was the roundup from you..did Greg drive you? you rest then come tell AuntB all about it..no roundups my way!
Theresa glad to see you post..gardening does take up a lot of ones time, how old are the grandchildren you've been sitting with? Angels I'm sure....don't you just feel at a loss when computer is down?
Well, off I go to get into comfy clothes and out to enjoy the day!
Will drop in when I'm on a 'break' worse than work..
Waving to everyone else..

hello to all hope your enjoying the weekend off to go out to play chat later
LOL LIz, I can just imagine, you giving me a perm, we getting wrapped up in a craft and lordy what a mess we'd be in..lol..
Nothing really to do so decided that I'd cut straight cuts in all little piece of glass that I have and ramdomly do the back cement bench that I poured..it's hidden way in a corner so not going to make a life project out of it, slip/slap and the way we go..lol..just something to entertain myself..Liz, how many days, haven't seen you on the countdown..lol
Just got a call from Lenny, Suzanne's hubby, made them a chandelier for their gazebo - said he lit the candles last night and it was just so cozy and romantic...so, it was well accepted...always nice when someone enjoys something that is done especially for them?
Just feeling nauseated, know it's because I've not yet ate, so off I go, fill my tummy and then outside for an hour or so..
betty exactly 29
Good morning everyone. Sounds like we have all had a busy week. My son & grandson left last night. Now getting ready for a friend from Dallas to come in tomorrow. Another busy week ahead. Keeps me out of trouble I guess! :-)
