Betty just ate horrible and don't remember all I came home with yet. I just know my healthy eating has got to be my top priority again as I have gained some of the weight I lost last year back and ate like a glutton yesterday as if food was leaving forever with the knowledge of my serious healthy eating coming back to my priorities.
We just visited and ate and traded and there was raffles and a guy from a nursery who came to talk about growing orchids in great detail. His place is so great and he will only have one more RU at his place so it was good to have gone in case I can't go again next year. I got his special compost mix and loaded up my truck.
It was 2 1/2 hours one way and I drove myself. He lives in Wine Country
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #46 visit with friends...
Liz, you can almost take 1 more day off your count..lol .. be here before you know it..
Cat sounds as though you've a busy weekend and week coming as well..
Dawn, don't you just hate it when you fall of the nutrition dieting and opting to try all the treats..that's quite a drive for you isn't it? not city driving though was it? Now you'll have to go have a look at what goodies you took home..probably a rest day for you..
You couldn't ask for a better weekend..I've enjoyed all of it..today took the boys up to my cousins on an island and they enjoyed the cayak, canoe, paddle boat and swimming..have a pool in their back yard and said water was almost as warm as the pool..a lot of sun so am tired, water seems to do that..
I'll share a few
was nice being out in the boat..first time this year..
Ooow I like
Betty,
Spending an day on the boat with your Grandsons is absolutely the priority!!!!
Such handsome Men-to-be!!!!! AND--they will NEVER forget YOU--and all you taught them!
Do you EVER think about how you will have shaped their lives??? This will last for all their adult lives as men--husbands--and Fathers!
You are so blessed--and so are they!!!!! Do you ever think that you are the "Author" of legacy??? The ultimate "Role Model"? The "tool" that will turn your Grandsons into gentle, caring, all-helping husbands one day? All of us on DG--as well as everyone in your family--will be so much richer for having known you!
Ahem......You caught me in a sentimental mood......I do that a lot!
Just do what you do---and be what you are! Nothing else is important! Kids learn by osmosis!
Love, Gita
How pretty Gita, I love that color too.
Moring girls,

Then I got a call from some friends and they wanted to come for dinner on Sunday..so lots of company ..good food and conversation.
Marion...My nephew said he couldn't find the stuffed alligator in the greenhouse at the UWO. Sorry...but it was a good story to be told.
Laura..so happy that you like the fabric I sent. That didn't take very long..I mailed it May 20th.

carol welcome back, glad you had a nice visit love that chair did you make it?
Morning All,
Just checking in.
Betty, I'm so glad you got to go out in the boat with your grandsons! It looked like a beautiful day! Isn't that water freezing, though?
I would take some freezing water about right now. We are into day THREE of record breaking temps. We hit 100 the past 2 and the same is expected thru tomorrow. The humidity is so think you can cut it with a knife! I went outside a couple of times to water my plants and within 5 mins was completely soaked with sweat!. It is miserable! We have one of those big pools but the water feels like bath water (and looks like used bath water!) so I'm not getting into it! Anyway, we stayed in the house and closed the blinds and generally "chilled". It was a nice change! (but I was itching to get outside!!)
The kids have 4 and a half more days of school left!! Then both are going to the YMCA day camp - DD in Counselors in Training and DS in Leaders in Training. We've made the mistake of singing the CIT song from 'Meatballs' around DD so I hope she doesn't go in and start singing it! You will be kicked out for sure if she does!!
Well, I'll try to check in again later. Y'all have a great day!!
J
Morning, beautiful day out there today, nice breeze..some of this area got hit in the storm yesterday and a lot of trees down..as for at home, they were calling for it as well, went out last night and secured everything I could, you could feel it in the air, as many of my hanging plants are under the overhang and don't get watering, thought I'd take them and put them in safe locations so they could get watered, rain started to come down, went inside and 5 minutes later, it had passed and rain had stopped..so all for not...
Gita, read your post and brought home the importance that grandparents have on their grandchildren, quite a responsibility isn't it? Scarry isn't it..how important our way of living, our outlook on life, that it's this we pass on...
Carol, sounds as though you've had such a lovely visit and her love of gardening must truly bind you together..did you get any of the nasty weather last night?
Jeannine, actually the lake was quite warm, dangled my feet in it while the kids swam..our temps was much as yours, I'd work in the yard from about 6 to 10 and then took it easy..left home and temps in the house was 65..even had to put a throw on me last night on the couch..probably from all the sun..are your children old enough to stay home during the summer months on their own or are they in YMCA camp each and every day? Guess as you can regulate your schedule it means that you could work from home here and there...
OMG Paul just came in and said "so you are off tomorrow Betty?" and I said, 'no, not tomorrow, Wednesday' - looked at the schedule and my colonoscopy is tomorrow..thank goodness he mentioned it or I'd have been in trouble..so must go to town tonight and get the 2 pkgs. of meds I need to start taking tonight..here I went and cancelled Wednesday painting class and put them to tomorrow so now I'll have to call them all and put it back to Wednesday night..I'm such a ditz sometimes..
Good morning all. Oh Starzz, I'm not really surprised the 'gator isn't still there. I got to thinking and that was in (ouch!) 1959 when he made his way north. Oh my, can't believe it has been that long. Just where does time go?
Pleeze Betty send some cooler air down here. Hate to hear about the trees being down and the storm. We had some serious thunder and rumblings but no rain.
This message was edited Jun 9, 2008 10:57 AM
You wouldn't want me to send my 'air' down there, much the same as yours..lol..
...well it might have some rain with it! Think maybe?
Most likely it would have that..think they are calling for some today and tomorrow..one thing about it, it has been happening late evenings, savesme watering the garden...
Will be thinking of you tomorrow. Really isn't bad--just the thoughts that are worrisome.
No doubt it's not, can't see Greg taking a whole day off to come with me as he is so busy it would mean him making it up in the evenings or on the weekend so when he told me Friday that he'd taken Tuesday off I said it was Wedn. so know he's changed his day off..won't tell him until tomorrow night that way he won't insist he come with me..kids!
My sister actually drove herself home after hers. I would recommend it but you can't tell her anything. Understand about kids completely!!! Amazing we managed to raise them, run a house, work but now they are grown, we can't do anything. Go figure!!!
Do take it easy and will still be thinking of you!!
Hello Friends - I am not even going to try and read the last few days posts. I have been away since early on Friday. I returned yesterday afternoon but am just now getting around to reading the forums. For some reason this thread was not marked to watch. Don't know how it became unwatched. Oh well. Have I missed anything very important that I should know?
John and I went to another plant swap and once again came home with a car load of goodies. This swap was hosted by Jody who lives on the Eastern Shore of VA. She has a wonderful place for gardening. She is so gracious and kind also. Always having a smile on her face doesn't hurt either. ha-ha She is really a sweetie.
Bonjon from Raleigh North Carolina came and brought a car load of Iris. I had asked especially for yellow, red and blue ones. I can't wait to see them bloom next year. Somehow the past two summers we are getting a lot of Iris from other Dave's members. I am certainly not complaining though.
Jody collects Hosta and has nearly 1,000 different types of them planted at her place. I came home with some miniature ones. I didn't even know there was such a bird. Can't wait to see how they will do for me. I do know the Hosta that we have now are huge, huge, huge. We will be dividing them and transplanting some of them come fall.
Sweet Judy DMailed me today. She takes time out from her own "under the weather" issues and checks on others. That is a true friend for you. Betty has also done that in the past when I don't show up for a day or two here and there. Thankfully, the reason for being away is just because I am busy, not ill or having a crisis.
Just checking in. I hope to stay caught up now for a while. I hope that everyone is staying cool and taking good care of themselves.
Ruby
Dragonfly, what are the baby hosta? Are they the small ones like Blue Mouse Ears? I am just getting some to grow--have always loved them but it was difficult where I lived before.
Yes they are small ones. I have a blue mouse ears there. At the front end by the drive I have a white feather on each side which are not the small ones. I have on the sides comeing toward the house. These are not in order now. Island Charm, Happy Talk, Fireworks, Abiqua Mini, Abuiqua Ground Cover, Baby Bunting, Little Sun Spot, And a couple others. Oh and Golden Tiara.
Nice. I only have the Blue Mouse Ears for now but am planning to get some more of the minis--have their own little area--My Baby Bed!!
Nice picture.
Hi All, Hope everyone is well. It's still hot as blazes here. Hopefully a colf front will come thru tomorrow and drop the temps a bit!
Betty - I hope everything goes well for you tomorrow. I have had 2 colonoscopies and they were nothing. The hardest part is the no eating the day before and then the meds to clean you out. I actually wanted to stay awake when I had my first one (like Katie Couric did), but the meds hit me and I was out! Second time I conked out again. I will have to go back again in 2 years for my next one. UGH! I have a funny ritual I have done after both times. Since I can't eat anything but clear stuff the day before, I make DH stop by Krispy Kreme (which is across the street from the doc offc) and I woof down their glaze donuts!!! YUMMY!. That makes it all worth it!!! Anyway, I'm sure everything will be ok and i'll be thinking about you!
Betty, you asked me about the kids staying at home alone during the summer and yes, we could leave them here but we feel that that boredom would take hold and God only knows what they'd be doing. This way, they are getting outside and getting exercise and we don't have to worry about them. As for me, I can work from home any time I want. When I had my old boss, I used to work a "flex" schedule and leave at 2pm every day and work from home after. This way I was home when the kids got home. Since both kids will be in middle school next year and not getting home until 3:30, I can pretty much work a full day at work and still be here close to when they get home. It's great to work for such a flexible company AND boss!!
Well, off to watch my man Mike Rowe on Dirty Jobs! I just love that guy!!! Especially when he gets dirty and has to take his shirt off! ARRRRRRR!
Hugs to all!
Jeannine
Oh my gosh Jeannine, you are so funny. I haven't watched the show, Dirty Jobs, but might have to now that there is a hunk to be seen. My husband watches it from time to time and tells me some of the yucky things that he gets in to.
I hear you on the heat. I think that Richmond is a few degrees warmer than the rest of the state. Must be the concrete holding on to the heat or something along those lines. We were away from home at the Eastern Shore this past weekend for a plant swap. The motel where we stayed had a shoddy air conditioner. It was blowing cold air, but not air conditioned air. If you just sat or layed down you were okay, but if you were stirring around much you got really warm. It was not unbearable or I would have insisted that they change rooms for us. I was really glad to get home and run the air conditioner though.
I hope that everyone else is doing okay with the heat. Have a good day gals and I will check on you all later today.
Ruby
Hello all, this is my 4 a.m. check in.......I have a good reason for being up at this hour, not sure what it is but I'm sure it's a good one....just surfing the forums looking for the meaning of life and might have found it here on this one, being hunky, I've got to work on that......:)
Paul from Alabama
Good morning Paul,
You made me chuckle at this early hour. It the birds that woke me up...
Big storm with lightning last night..everything is cooled off here now.
Jeanine..we have a show here (Mike) Holmes on Homes...he is my hero...LOL
Betty..love the new haircut..great pics of the boating...and your garden is lovely.
My new blue flax is not looking too healthy..hope it is just tkaing time to settle in.
I painted a band of Cygon on my birch tree last week....I have a smaller one in the Secret Garden too...hopefully it will keep the bugs from eating holes in the leaves. I think the birch is my favorite tree. Thinking of Sharon's article on River birch. Great to hear your daughter is spending time with you. I have to get caught up on new Sharon's articles.
Cheers,
Carol
Paul, I just read through your blog. You are so much fun. A plus on writing technique. How long have you been around Dave's? What an inspiration you are. I too have experienced some health problems over the years and for me at least, it has served to make my a much kinder person and to also make me realize what is important and what is not. I am so glad that you have gardening as an outlet as well as your writing. I use writing as therapy much of the time too. Back before computers in every home, I would start eacfh day writing to one of any number of pen pals who suffered with the same autoimmune system disease that I have dealt with for almost 25 years.
I have found that whenever I am facing something that I can't decide which direction to go with, writing it out will usually give me the answer as to how something needs to be handled. I have never given much thought to writing with a humorous lilt. That might be something that I ought to try my hand at.
Anyway, I enjoyed reading your blog. How far back does it go? I only read between the last week in May up until yesterday. Are there older entries? I am so glad that you dropped by to say hello to the group. You are a very welcome addition.
Ruby
Hi Ruby..you are so right about Paul and his blog....great fun to read.
I have just been catching up. Do you subscribe to the RSS feed?
I have an Oriole nest in my pear tree. I had never seen one before..but I noticed that I saw the Orioles more often than other years..and kept watching where they went..
Everything in the Secret Garden is so green..so serene......
The roses have buds forming.
All the plants are doing so well....
and the rabbits aren't doing much damage..so far..not seeing as many as other years.
I am anxious to see the Sweet William I grew from seed last year bloom. any day now..Last year no bloom..and low and bushy...this year they have shot up quite tall..never had it before..so a new experience.
What a gorgeous space your secret garden is Starrz. Beautiful and looks so peaceful. Ahhhhh.....Thank you for posting the pictures. Cool about the nest, I have never seen one like that either. So glad that you decided to watch them.
I also meant to thank Dragon for all of the wonderful pictures of her place that she posts. I always enjoy seeing them. I am going to head outdoors for a little bit now and take a walk and look at back yard. I watered out front some yesterday but didn't get to see how the back is coming along.
Again, have a great day everyone.
Ruby
betty will be thinking of you today, hope all go's well
Morning, didn't have to get up at 4:45 so missed Paul dropping in..waving to you Paul, yep, been reading his blog and it makes my day..just so funny....
Light rain is falling here, gardens will appreciate it..not sure what plants this is, never saw it in bloom before..reminds me as I look at the picture, need to hanging basket, this one got frost bitten a few weeks ago...
Had a d-mail from Jaye telling me there is a package at the post office for me today..been delivered..has to do with my 'red/white/blue' swap..will certainly make my day..so will take a run at 9 to pick it up..(hope they has a washroom) lol...
June will pick me up at 11:30 and I'll go to my friends viewing (Evelynn) stay but 1/2 hr. and then June will drop me off at the hospital...Darlene will be in town for the afternoon, if I'm able to come home before 4 they will call Darlene, if it's after 4:00 Greg will pick me up on his way home...so all organized..then a nice sleep for the evening or maybe not..they say you shouldn't drive and might be drowsy so we'll see....having Donuts Ruby for after sounds mighty fine..
Well, I'd better get into action..lol..
Everyone enjoy the day...
