Here's a group of Black-legged Kittiwakes, nesting on a bridge parapet

More usually, Kittiwakes nest on sea cliffs, but this colony has taken to nesting on riverside buildings in a city (Newcastle upon Tyne) 15km inland, the furthest-inland Kittiwake colony in the world. Because they're on buildings, it's possible to get really close to them, and take some very unusual pics . . . this is looking down from the bridge at the nests, and down to the riverside road with cars, buses and people straight below them . . . don't look too close if you get vertigo!!

This pic, you can see the eggs in one of the nests.

Notice the little white spots on the pavement (sidewalk) below?? Bet some pedestrians sometimes get hit, too ;-)

Window shot of an Indigo Bunting. I just love having these birds here and there seems to be several pair eating at the feeders!

Another window shot from a few days ago. One of the few shots I have of the female Red-bellied Woodpecker! The braveheart little American Goldfinches are not intimidated by the larger and louder bird!

Impending storms here today (hopefully nothing like you folks have been experiencing), and the birds are flitting about. Too fast for a good picture.

Gotta go and plant some Hollyhocks before the storm gets here.

Bullocks Oriole female.

How nice it was to see them somewhere other than the feeder at my families home in Roseburg. These were at Herbert's Pond, near Canyonville. When the trees were bare of leaves I saw (previous seasons) oriole nests all over the place, so was very hopeful of finding them there.

I wish it hadn't been such a grey day, but am happy to have seen thses birds anyway.

The two females had a pretty serious disagreement about something, and we giving one another a good what for!

tigerlily, love the Orioles. Have you ever seen their nests - they are quite beautiful. I have been scanning the trees for them but haven't spotted one so far.

Tigerlily, I'm so jealous that you get Orioles - supposedly we have them here, but I've never seen one. It seems like we would have enough terrain variety to attract them, but so far no go.

The baby starling disappeared. I was still trying to decide what to do when I didn't hear it anymore and went to investigate. Couldn't find it. Either it left, was hidden really well and not crying anymore or something carried it off. Nature ran its course.

I'm jealous of anyone not completely melting in summer heat. It's no wonder the birds all went north. This fledgling blue jay was drawn to the sprinkler for relief.

And I feel your pain on the Suet. We've been putting up a new one every 4 days, just for the starlings it seems. I haven't seen the woodpeckers in a week.

I can't even go 4 days....more maybe 11/2 or 2 days at the most. :(

Funny story...I have been trying to teach DH the different birds as I learn them... and he does try. He gets more excited over some than others..like the Pileated. We have covered towhee's several times now that they come in the yard.

Last Night the bird below landed on top of our little 6ft. river birch...he is sitting on the porch watching it and I came out the door. He says to me "that's a towhee, right?" I just about lost it!! LOL

Eastern Bluebird in the above pic...didn't want to spoil the story!!

Elphaba..That's a pretty BJ...we only had a few this winter now they are all over the place...along with the Grackles and Cowbirds!! The Starlings are few and far between and I am very grateful for that!

OP...they are beautiful! This is my first year of watching birds and it seems to me that the BB's look a darker blue. Is it my imagination or have you noticed too? I hope you have the best of everything with the BB's...they are so sweet!
