Good in flight shots pelle..............one of these days I'm going to catch up with this osprey when it isn't raining and get some good pics.

Yeah, because that is such a lousy picture.
Need a cyber slap on the head??? LOL

Great picture of the osprey. They are such a cool bird!

I am going to repeat the message I put on the last thread. I didn't realize a newer thread had begun.

Calling all bird EXPERTS - what are the chances for survival for this one? Any encouragement? How is it flying? I would be good with "It's some weird kind of moulting. Bird will be okay."

It looks like a Cedar Waxwing to me, and I can't see any problem with it on this pic.

Brainerd, MN

It is a Cedar Waxwing. Look at the bird on the right. It's right wing is tipped in red and it's tail is tipped in yellow. Is that right? It looks like they have both been chopped off...sort of.

Marlton, NJ

No thats the correct colors.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Yep, they're fine - the red is supposed to be there!

Resin

whew! what a relief! Bird is OK!!
Here is a picture of my usually placid Pete Pyrrhuloxia but he got quite startled by this House Finch. So did I!

Great pic angele!

Hi Everyone:
Just had to pop in and say hi. All the wrens have left to go to their respective homes (sure are going to miss them, but all the others have returned here. Really enjoying all the Cardinals, Blue Jays, Titmouse, Thrush, Osprey, Oriole, Mockingbird and Water birds. This year we even have 2 Canadian Geese who decided to stay instead of going back North. What great fun!

I would have fretted over those waxwings, too. I'm glad to hear that's normal. I recently had a starling visit with a broken leg. I felt sad for him. Many large shadows were flying over my house. I don't know if he made it, but it is possible; he was very good at hiding.

Angele, that pic is fantastic. I love the motion and drama.

Coquitlam, BC(Zone 7b)

Irishsoul, I've been wondering where those two missing geese went.

Hi Pellatory, how the heck are you?

Moogletree, don't worry, I will take good care of them for you. They have built a nest on the lake and seem to love it here.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Love the picture of Pete Angele, and I can see why you were worried about your beloved waxwings. Looks like a bloody wing stump!! Ick.

Marlton, NJ

Hi irish, I'm good and its great seeing you on the forum!

Thanks everybody. :-) I was sure surprised I didn't jerk the camera.

(Mrs_Ed just in case you thought the Waxwing was mine it wasn't. The photo belongs to original_sybil.. I just said whew because I sure was worried by that picture)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

oh. haha.

cripes. I was gone today and it took me like an hour to get through my threads.

I think I'm addicted to DG.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi everyone! Guess who finally showed up this afternoon! *MR.* Painted Bunting! I'm so excited!

He and the wifey both visited the feeder, so I'm hoping they'll make a habit of it.

Here's the Mrs.. The male was being a little shy, hiding on the other side of the feeder, but you can see that he's there.

We spent the weekend at our new hunting lease, and there were two neighbors nesting on the front porches of a pair of side by side mobile homes we use for cabins.

One was a Curve Billed Thrasher. Sometimes you could see the nestlings little heads popping up when mama came in to feed them, but I didn't get a picture.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Correct me if I'm wrong about this being a Curve Billed Thrasher. Here it is on the phone line.

The other neighbor was an Eastern Wood-Pewee. Again, correct me if I'm wrong on the ID.

Here's another of the Pewee. Do you pronounce it "Peh- weh," Peh-wee" or Pee-wee"?

Both of the nests were right over the door of the mobile homes. The nests were about 15 - 20 feet apart.

Congratulations on the Painted Bunting, Peeperkeeper.....I know it was a thrill to see it.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Peeper...color me jealous!! Lucky you!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Ooo, me to peeper! I still have not found my Scarlet Tanager or seen the Summer Tanager again....

I was not on all day yeterday either and have lots of catching up to do!

I wish I could get the lighting adjusted better on this one ...it made both of us laugh seeing the male's expression!

Would have been a great shot except for what ever that is...not rain.

I'm really happy to see and hear catbirds in my yard this year as in previous year's they have been only occasional visitors. This one put on a pretty decent performance from the neighbor's cherry tree this morning. Yesterday afternoon one of them seemed to be much more insistent on claiming its territory.

The white breasted nuthatches are always welcome visitors at my feeders. This one is enjoying some peanuts.

Lovely all!

New excitement… a nesting cardinal pair in my neighbor's hedge. He keeps odd hours (night shift) so I just attached a note to the bushes as seen here.

Thumbnail by Mrs_Ed
Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I emptied my point and shoot camera and was pleased to find a picture of the Red-breasted grosbeak couple. They've since left me, as have most of all my regulars! Odd. I guess they are all nesting somewhere.

Nuthatches, downies, goldfinches… gone.

Still have my house finches, the cardinal pair, lots of house sparrows and house wrens. Oh, and today a big fat mouse under the feeder. sigh.

I did also spy this new type of small cardinal at the (in need of cleaning) watering hole.
