Thread was getting quite long, so thought I'd move us over....
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #45 visit with friends...
lo theres a few feet here and there lol
Just in case some of you miss the 'notice' lol that Christmas is coming I thought I'd re-post the following:
Had wanted to mention...don't shake your heads..Christmas is coming..and in early November some of you will want to do our 2nd Annual Craft day via DG...
So know it's early but it's the right time of year to go in search of a 12" tomato cage..you know, I've looked all over and can't find 12" ones, so before the gardening season ends and you think you might want to follow and make one or two or three as gifts, out you go to pick up that tomato cage...lol...
So much for that!!!! lol
Waiting for a call from my sister to let me know how mom is doing..she started out about 3 weeks ago with the flu and hasn't shaken it..believe she's got pneumonia now..had just fallen asleep last night when her neighbor at the cottage (just like her daughter) called me to tell me exactly how ill she's been...this morning mom called and as we gabbed she asked if Kathy had called me, said 'nope' - guess I should have told her the truth but then if I did next time Kathy wouldn't call me because mom would be mad..what a tangle world we live in...anyway she had to be at the Dr.'s at 11 this morning so waiting to hear...
Oh gosh Betty, I am sorry to hear about your mother being ill. Not good at all. So glad that she will seek medical attention today. The pneumonia this year is awful, ask Sharon.
Well, it took some doing, but I just made it through three days of posts again. I have been so busy that my computer time is suffering. Here is wishing everyone a good day. And Jeannine, you don't quite get to my house when visiting Scottsville. You are about 45 minutes away at that point. You are really getting accustomed to driving in this direction. You should plan a weekend ride sometime and come visit my garden.
Take care everyone.
Ruby
oh hope she is feeling better soon, cool look foward to workshop i have one now to go search for more..
better get to home depot will post later
Just called Mom's - Jim says she has a really bad sinus infection now and it's what is creating most of the problems, she's in bed resting, on meds...so let's hope that clears it...
Now I'm waiting for the township to return my call..might be a long wait..
they have drainage on both front left and front right of my driveway..anyway I live at the bottom of the hill and all the debris come meltdown ends up at the water grate..instead of the entire grate available for flow it's down to about 1/2..then my neighbor on the right whose house burnt and got rebuilt has been working on his front lawn and reclaiming some of the ditch..I can see hoses from his basement for drainage pumping going into this ditch and consequently my ditch instead of being nicely cut has 2 ft. of sludge in it...they don't act quickly sometimes...left message in a nice tone even mentioned it was difficult for this old gal of 60 to be digging ditches in hopes they'd check it out, but no go so far...
Beautiful Bev...still raining in your area? Guess you spend a lot of time as we all do in the garden? not nice for all the celebrations planned...
Nope, can go out today but very little news being given out. I didn't realize the crime scene was at the end of our street. Went to join my daughter and her teacher colleagues for lunch and past the yellow crime scene tape. All that is know or being said is: "she is hispanic, no English, had a puncture wound to chest and wrist cut, badly beaten and mother of 5" Scary. Dogs and chopper were out most of the night and I am exhausted today. I am sure they are not saying much in order to catch the person responsible.
Okay, fill me in on the 12" tomato cages! CRAFTS PROJECT? You have my undevided attention now!! What, how, when---? Okay, gals remember I have stated I am/was blonde, but are you referring to the talk cone shape cages? I am beginning to think we need a private plane and pilot to fly around the US and Canada to deliver all the things we want to share.
Oh Bev, What a Beauty!! woohoo mine are starting open too. Are ya drying up over there?
LOL, story continues...
So Friday Julia graduated. What a beautiful ceramony. LOL, Julia was the only one to toss her hat. said she always wanted to do that.
They did a beautiful tribute to each kid and had a film of them baby photos and now. So touching, not a dry eye in the house...even Julia was wiping her eyes. So this is such a fun photo of Julia and Alissa afterward. We took lots of pics. I got a really nice one of her and her Freshman and Senior Teachers. I tell you there are some of the most incredible people at the off campus, as well as in mainstream.
Yes Betty she is walking on Cloud 9. LOL was talking about some pretty expensive items, so we said well good thing you have a job! She was thinking we would get her these items. I don't know, maybe one or two, you know for graduating.
Then we headed for the Cottage. So dad worked on cleaning his boat. While he did that I worked on clean up, and started a path.
Originally I wanted a wrap around porch...But for reasons I can understand I didn't get that. So I decided to create a wrap around bed!
DH actually cought me on film. I got all the way around to front of house. So i am pretty excited. Been waiting 3 long years to do some gardening. This was also a weekend to celebrate, Steve wanted me to wait for the Cuz, i said i am tired of waiting, if don't like it then he can yank it. I have agreed to letting those guys do what they wanted on the inside, but the outside is mine. LOL, I don't put my hands in your kitchen so keep your feet out of my gardens. heheh, agreed! So we met up with our cousins. Had an excellent time.
Today was no rest since i am trying to catch up with house work, but i think it is in good shape for all the company coming. My family will start arriving on Friday, LOL We have a ton of floor space, maybe they will even camp in the yard, well see.
Ok...I have to go back and catchup with all of you. Marion, was that you with something bad happening in your area, OMG, i sure hope they catch the person, yow!
We took some to the cemetery and I kept some for myself, the bushes were just loaded this year and huge! Want to separate them in the fall, they really are too close together. The neighbor lady gave the cuttings to my son, who is now 34, when he was about 5. He was "helping" her with her flowers. He's going to take some of these starts to plant at his house. :) They are so lovely and they remind me of my mother who has been gone a long, long time, but still missed. I was just thinking about how I use to help her "harvest" the peonies, roses and snowballs to take to cemetery to dress the graves. Can't get back there anymore, but we normally make a donation to various charities in our parent's names, since they are all gone now.
Yes, it was me with the problem area. Still no word on the condition of the woman but it is a little upsetting. Her not speaking any English was delaying the investigation last night. The deputy who told me I should stop working in the yard (brave man--only one man has been able to do that and get away with it and he is deceased) and go inside. They were in the process of finding an interrupter to get some questions answered. I joking said to my daughter, well you can help only to find out she is on the register at the hospital incases such as this. Fluent in Spanish. The helicopters were flying around the lake again this afternoon late as there are loads of heavily wooded areas surrounding it.
Wonderful graduation pictures and such a special time in their lives.
Betty, how is your Mom? Clue me in on this project, please.
Doc, love peonies, bought about 4 or 5 of them, doing great but don't see any buds, 2nd year..I've taken some earth away from their feet as someone thought maybe they were too deep so maybe next year..SIL has the most amazing ones, her hubby is the gardener..lordy they smell nice...
Lot of cemetaries don't allow flowers nowdays..where Roger is burried they allow shrubs and flowers which is great, even have 2 solar lights..goodness pass the graveyard and it looks like a mini city all lit up...remember doing much the same with my grandmother..to this day I bring flowers every few months to the graves, yuk so many have passed on it takes a weeks salary to do so..lol..they've left me all on my own to do it..not so sure the next generation will continue..I try to instill that it's important to honor the dead, let's hope they've listened...bet your son was thrilled to get them..a lot of memories came back I'm sure...
Judy/Judy you just never stop..always on the go and you say I've energy...more company..you'll be soon tired of visitors..yes/no??? lol - cottage looking good..Julia certainly looks as though she's on cloud 9...good for her...
Bev, what kind of bird? looks like our baby robins but probably not...soon it will stop raining and we'll be crying for it during drought time..last few years we've had a ban on water usage...
Abbisgramma - aren't you worried that he may be still in your region? Mother of 5 - how dreadful..praying for her to heal quickly and get back to her children..speaking of children, about 4 months ago during the coldest day of the year a man in a vehicle through a young child - believe less than 2 yrs. old in a stairwell outside, half clothed to die..a lady heard her wimper and she survived in the care of Children's Aid..did not find out who did it, well lo and behold they found the parents..have 3 other young children, have been married 8 years..anyway, for some reason a neighbor felt they resembled the little girl (now thats 1 in a million long shot right) anyway police checked it out, managed to get dna on the sly, yep that was them so they were arrested and the other 3 children in the hands of Child services...jail is much too good for them...
As for the craft...last year as we couldn't get together for a craft day we decided to try an on-line craft day, I sent out the materials to everyone who wanted to participate..a few did do them and gave them as Christmas gifts, some improvised and did a lot of other crafts using same method..all and all we had a great day..
Would like to clarify, the Best/Worse and What did I learn today is NOT just for crafters as many have thought, it was a way of bonding with each other, learning about each others day, because of my love and that of others for crafting it seemed a natural progression, but truly, it's open to talking about onces difficulties, ones happiness, supporting each other...which I know we would do for each other, but day to day we talk of gardening, of weather, of friendship and yes of crafts...so for those who may think they are on the wrong thread, please don't leave us..we're just having fun, enjoying the day...tomorrow we'll drift to something else..lol..
SO, we said that this year we would do it again..I thought of something that can be done with no sewing, suitable for those who are crafty or those who have never attempted a craft..he's absolutely gorgeous, must find a cage so I can make the proto type for you...he's dressed in velvet, beautiful wavy beard/hair, drapped gown and hood, holding a staff and a horn....
Because it is so difficult at least up here to find tomato cages in the fall/winter I thought it would be the opportune time for anyone interested to go out and find the tomato cage...I pour the faces and will paint them..also it's difficult to find the proper bear wood, I've a distributor so will order the quantaties and ship late Oct.
If any of you are interested in what was a fun day for a few of us...here's the link
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/791311/
Now to other things...when Paul (BIL and Boss) purchased my dad's home on the water after he passed away he did mega renovations..upon visiting one day I noticed a crockery pot used for pickling sitting in a corner with a plant in it...memories came flooding back..my grandmother raised me and I could remember helping her slice cucumbers to make the 11 day old pickles...well today, he brought me a gift..my grandmother's pickling container...I'm excited, not sure where I'll put it, but it will be nice having a part of her enter my life again....
Well, off I go to eat, hungry..went into Midland tonight after I got home and purchased a lot of fruit, so it's strawberries and banana's in milk..sound good...lol
Best .. getting the crock
Worse..talking to mom and knowing she's not well and her trying to hide it from me..she's worried that I've enough of my not feeling good not to worry about her..silly thing...
What did I learn..municipalities don't call you back..wen't out and took photo's..will e-mail it to them and if I get no reply I'll mail them new ones each and every day...
Another good thing...got 2 cards at the post office tonight..says to 'pick up item' but can't get there till Fri. aft.-suspense-suspense...lol
Do enjoy your evening..think I've written a manual..
OMG! Can I sign up now? What an absolutely wonderful idea to do it via the internet with unseen friends. So I guess I should find myself a 12" tomato cage and store it for a while-right?
No, Betty, I am not overly worried--life is to short and precious to stress myself out anymore. Once Ross died I have tried not to worry about the things I can't change and live life each day. Not always easy as I am sure you know.
Good luck with the drainage problem. Prayers for your Mom.
Marion
betty, thanks for re sharing it was indeed a wonderful day spent with friends
Bev that is such a great color. I wanted to say good-bye to all of you before my anniversary trip tomorrow.
I hope you have had a wonderful and safe holiday.
Laura I was thinking about you lately, so I hope you are doing much better. I smile every time I see my angel in the truck and I remember that day we were spared in that big wreck.
Morning to all,
I'm still puttering with plants. I planted my tomatoes and basil yesterday...and a few more annuals.
I need to get the morning glories in that I have been growing from seed. The asters from seed are just sitting there not getting very big..but hopefully they will put on a spurt with this warmer weather we finally have.
Judy..congrats to your daughter on her award..love that she threw her hat in the air.
Nice job on the garden at your cottage..isn't it hard to remove the grass..but I'll bet you have all kinds of thoughts of beautiful blooms while doing it.
Betty..hope your Mum is feeling better soon.
Doc..I keep looking for buds on my two peonies..One I had moved and two years ago and it hasn't bloomed yet. I know they don't like to be moved.
The other has tiny buds coming. Yours have a wonderful deep colour.
Sharon...you are lucky to have your "Knight in shining armour" to save you. ..great pose.
Bev..love the colour of your Iris..waitng on my fave ones to open..soon..I have some deep purple ones open now.
Bye for now..

The weather was gorgeous most of the weekend. MY DB came to visit. Monday got most of one flowerbed planted. Was at work and a lady came in and said there were frost warnings for tonight. Left work and it was so cold and windy! Got home and DH even thought things should be covered. So glad it is light out when I get home now! LOL Covered my 11 tomato plant 2 zucchini and 5 cukes. Just realizrd I missed one. Put all the little plants in the GH. Looked out this morning. No Frost! 38 degrees with a windchill of 32. Might just leave them covered as tonight could be the same.
So that was my exciting weekend. So have enjoyed hearing what all you have been up to.
Sharr another wonderful story.Got teary eyed reading it. I could see my dads sisters being like that if I had been closer to them. Love those little kids with those great imaginations. Brings back memories of when my son was small and sweet and clunked me in the eye with a small JD tractor! I don't think he was even 2.
Dh plowed up me a corn/sunflower patch. Can hardly wait to plant it. Love sunflowers and haven't had room for all I want to plant. Of course some are for the birds. But some fancys for me.
Liz I want to have a thrift sale but so far we are just too busy with other stuff. I know the earlier you have it the better off you are. Around here anyway!
Judy what a happy and proud mom you are. those pictures were just delightful.
Starzz I have tons of morning glory seedlings I pull up and throw away every year. Don't know if I am going to let any grow this year. I'm planting more vegies. We will see. I do love them.
Laura today I will go upstairs and see if I have some material. I know I did but did get rid of a bunch! We will see.
Thanks all for sharing your news and pictures.
Hope you have the day you need.
Vicki
hello all
my wuilt is coming along nicely, cant wait to show you all.
dont stress the material, there is time...
hey did i miss everyones SP?? i saw a couple but i forgot who;s in it again... dont forget to post.
my SP is still waiting as it takes ages for mail to get over yonder.... should be this week though and dont growl at me when u see the postage ok? hahahaha it was worth it!
your flowers are looking wonderful, as for the craft thread i would love too but not practical for me right now and i am sure betty would tell me that i need to concentrate on one thing at a time.... lol I have a few things on the go but i enjoy them. i have betty and the gang to thank for that. being deep in depression you seem to lose yourself. now i am getting better and i have all these craft nuts around me, how can you not do something! i am quilting, practicing cutting glass to make butterflys ( thats hard) i have made two teddies, xmas decorations, i want to make the bird house betty has, all sorts of things... its great.
hope u feel better soon betty...
and i agree, try not to sweat the small stuff, in the scheme of things, it doesnt matter
hugs
Good morning everyone. Loved the picture of the "shining knight". Hummm, maybe I should put him in touch with my princess-oops 2 princesses. Love to play dressup at this age.
Vez, can't believe the 38 degrees--it is so hot and humid here--Florida I know.
Starzz, my daughter has planted a garden for therapy. You most likely heard her yell when she found 8 little tomatoes on her plants. She is a high school teacher and has been dealing with "burn out" and this is part of her de-stressing suggestion from her doctor. Smart man--I could have told her gardening is good but no--. I am sure I don't need to say anymore.
Hellnzn11, congratulations on your anniversary and have a great trip. Be safe.
No news on the woman yet. Paper said she is still in to much of an emotional shock to be questioned. They are more concerned now with her recovering to question her. They continue with the seach in this area but it has gotten much larger. Suspect she was "dumped" out here because of the heavily wood areas.
How is Mom today Betty?
Off to see what the squirrels did to my plants this morning. Later.
Good morning all. It's back to work for me today. Looks to be another rainy day anyway; can't get outside so I may as well work! :-)
Happy Anniversary Dawn. And many many more! Have a safe trip.
Have a good day everyone
Morning, shouldn't have put my winter clothes away, it's bloody cold out there..calling for frost tonight, have no idea how I'll protect all those seedlings..all the hanging baskets and houseplants will have to come in I'm sure...
Left home just after 6 this morning, Suzanne needed to get a few files done, better early than staying late..
Should bring my camera to work, just down the street in a cement complex high rise area were about 30 Canada Geese, mostly babies, now why they would choose that location for their home I'll never know...once it was a field and now they've done major construction so maybe the poor babies have no idea where to go..a pretty picture it would have made...
Shar, a handsome knight if I ever saw one..he's just so adorable..bet you enjoyed the day..is he still visiting or have they now gone home..know you are heading out for Alaska for Carol's memorial, will Ethan be going with you as well? Although a sad event, just think of the beauty you will see...must take lots of photo's for us...read your latest 'Aunt Bett' series, now each time I see that beautiful Japanese Quince I'll be thinking of you both..might call her Aunt Bett...think I will...
Marion, will put your name down..as I go along this summer I'll send out the list of materials needed - bear hair and face..by the time we're ready to do it, everyone who wants to do one will have their supplies..was just a fun thing to do together...
Just made a list in 'wordperfect' lol that you registered, might be a fun thing to do in the next few weeks - get the molds out and pour some faces...sometimes I'm looking for something to do for 1/2 hr. while sitting outside..must go in search for the hair distributor, not easy to find but so worth it...you'd swear it was real hair - beard goes about 6" down his robe...another thing you can do throughout the summer will be to find velvet or velveteen, whichever is in your budget.. 3/4 of a meter - 45" wide..can be lovely in maroon, dark green or dark blue..not fond of red as he doesn't look as victorian...just found with Christmas coming, shopping, planning etc. that we'll try and do it earlier, also knowing a couple of the girls (not naming any names, they'll be doing them for Christmas gifts...lol) enough about Christmas right, Paul just came in and said it was a nice fall day out there, wouldn't doubt there would be snow, must be the reason I'm thinking Christmas...NOT!!!! as a Recreation Co-ordinator for most of my working life it was necessary to always be one or 2 seasons ahead of myself in planning..old habits die hard...lol
Bev, you must have a terrific camera to get such shots..isn't it relaxing just to sit outside, listen to the birds chirping, watching them play, squirrels trying to outsmart, just being in tune with Mother Nature..
Dawn, you enjoy celebrating your anniversary..you'll not get away as often once your 'grandma' - you'll be busy playing with the little one...lol...congrats to you and Greg..enjoy - take photo's...be safe...
Carol, you must be getting same kind of weather there, you'll be covering those little seedlings tonight..when I was shopping last night I picked up another pkg. of morning glory seeds and planted them, how come the only color I can find is 'blue' am sure I saw lovely photo's of all colors..
Liz, why are you using electrical lights in your lighthouse...walmart sells those miniature solar lights for $2 or $3.00...would that be more suitable, that way you can moved it around and not need an electric plug-in? Poor puppy, glad it's not something serious..Liz..was fun going back to our on-line craft day...we were just so excited..and to think, we may be doing our 2nd...as for your craft sale, now are these items things you have in excess or are they articles you went to garage sales and bought and now putting them up for resale...are you only allowed a couple of lawn sales a year..here they are starting to give permits..not sure there is a charge, what they are trying to do is rid themselves of individuals who have daily sales and keep all the articles out in the yard in full view..think it's a good idea...to be more in control of them..
Vicki it must be some sight to see sunflowers in a field..do you plant them right in with the corn so that the corn helps them stand straight and tall, or do they have a location in the field on their own???
Laura, you are sounding more like yourself, am glad you are getting out, taking up new hobbies..can't wait to see some of the projects...have the 1/2 yard of material and the mini bear cut out packet ready to ship on Friday..will make sure it goes express...as for SP gift, got 2 cards in post office yesterday telling me there are parcels waiting for pick-up, lordy have to wait till Friday when I can make their open hours..don't you think they should have night pick-up for those of us who work..lol..
Cat, just missed you...looks as though the rain and cold weather is hitting most of us...not so bad when you are working as you say, keep the warmth and sunshine for our days 'off'...
Guess I need to call my neice and tell her it is sunny here; maybe she will come visit again!
I am soooooo excited about the craft idea. Such a clever, neat idea to do one this way. Will start my search for velveteen or velvet--isn't as easy to find here as it once was. Have been known to use really nice velour for some things--might say I was desparate. I am assuming the 12" cone shaped cages is what I need to acquire.
So far a good day, not more plants dug up by the squirrels! Now back to my other work.
Yes Betty..it is so windy and cold out there. My neighbour just said to me.."Got your winter coat on?" when I was outside doing the tour around the garden.
I found a nice plastic clothes pin container and screwed it up on the clothesline post. I had a cloth bag but it had seen better days..
The new one is taupe/beige with a lid from Canadian Tire. Looks good.
Well I am off to the library now..it opens at 10 am..and there are two books I requested waiting for me.
Have a good day.
betty, no no limit here and yes thease are resale lol and all the things mil got at sales and made me take them home while dh grumbling all the way home about the house is getting over crowed well he cant complain now im really unloading..
permits nobody gets one but i have this stupid issue about doing things legal so incase i have to ask someone to leave and they throw that do you have a permit i'll be ready lol i have 6 boxes and havent even made a dent ok now i have a question those porclain dolls you make yourself what would be a fair price??? 5.00??????
Now that's a question..know you can purchase replica's quite reasonable so $5.00 would be a fair price, but when you say 'made yourself' fired/painted etc. and then dressed, wigs...that would be difficult to say, I'd probably give a call to a doll collector...know mom makes procelain dolls (lordy will I have a job trying to find a home for them if she goes first) some are almost as big as me..some cost her $200. - $500. to make depending on the eyes/wigs/mechanisms etc. so a hard question to answer...
liz, did you make the dolls or purchase them for collection? A doll maker would be looking at the quality of the wigs, eyes, eyelashes and dressing. Good quality wigs and doll eyes are expensive, so if that's what's on them $5.00 is cheating yourself.
You send me that and expect me to wait until November? Shame on you--I want to start NOW. Love it and really looking forward to this project. I knew when I was just watching different threads that this might be the group I would have fun with. You all have proven my thought to be correct. Going shopping to look for cages today!
Since I walked in the door I have gotten more accomplished than I have for quite a while. Thanks to everyone of you for the motivation.
abisgrandma,
Velvet or Velveteen can sometimes be found if you shop in Thrift Shops. Go to where they have their "bridal" section--and sometimes there are Bridesmaid dresses with velvet/velveteen skirts. Cheap! Just cut them up for what you need!
Of course, I think "Joannes" carries all that year round....
Gita
edited to say that HD or Lowes would still have Tomato cages....

Thanks Gita, I really haven't look in Joanne's lately but I love the thrift shop idea. I'm going start early on this.
Marion
Gita, what a marvellous suggestion, I would never have thought of that..of course when I teach I've usually got 50 - 75 on the go so need massive amounts of yardage..might even go to Fabricland when they have their sales (like a Joanne's) and tell them to let me know and I'll purchase a lot of times many want to do 2 or 3 in the day...but for someone wanted to do a couple it's a great idea...lordy you are smart...
I haven't been able to find 12" cages here, probably have to be special orders from the nurseries, so this weekend better get checking it out and order them..so if it does take months I'll be ready...
Just a reminder Marion, 12" tall not circle width...
Betty---Now! Did you expect any lass of me????????
The one phrase I hear over and over in my life is"THAT'S A REALLY GREAT IDEA!!"
As a joke--I always say----when I die--on my tombstone I want engraved: "That was a really good idea!".......chuckle.......
