69 and gorgeous!
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 21
Candyce - we had rain yesterday on and off. The worst part for me was that we lost our internet (wonderful Wild Blue satellite) FROM LATE MORNING UNTIL THIS MORNING. I really don't like it........I'm way too attached to my computer, not only for keeping up on my DG world, but also because I do all my bills, etc. on it. Since we came back up here, it has been nothing but trouble. Time for a visit to the Geek Squad.....will have to leave it with them for a week. Ugh. No DG!
Today was gorgeous here......I spent the whole day gardening after our morning walk. I need a shower. LOL
It was a nice day after last evening's storm--sorry folks up north are not getting the heavy showers we are--I know our friends in Plainfield, NH were crying for rain, although they do irrigate from the CT River. The bird photos were great -- I never have my camera--only my binocs--& today had a great crested flycatcher in my veggie garden--so close I didn't need the binocs--he made a weird cry as he flew-- a loud WEEP WEEP---maybe I'll get a pic sometime--I can actually hear him now, just can't see him!
Sorry, Louise ,about the computer--mine would not let me access the photo I wanted to send, which was my iris now in bloom--instead I got the garden I'm refurbishing---overgrown shrubs removed today, & I'm open to suggestions! East exposue, raised bed with a variety of plants in there--I'm looking for low & slow growing shrubs, but not euonymous, barberry, or cotoneaster.
That's a bummer, Louise. Good luck!
I have some Bird's Nest Spruce planted in the front garden ROBIN. They tend to grow out and have a round form, but I only recommend them if you want an evergreen. I have had deer ruin one of mine when they decided to chew on it two winters ago and it never did recover. If I had thought they'd touch it, I would have covered it. They dug down through the snow one night and did the damage. I love that they have a round form which you can either trim or not, as you like. Just a suggestion!
Itea 'Little Henry' is a good one, Robin.
Thanks, Kass. Very nice day today - warm but breezy. We had a the end of year scouts picnic in a park along the Hudson. Down to 65 now and very nice. I have a REAL loud frog in my pond! He's making a racket right now. I love to hear them.
Couldn't have been more perfect. I sat out watching the pinks and purples in the clouds as the sun set. Finally, the mosquitos impressed upon me that it was time to go in.
Yes, I got one big welt last night and another this afternoon. Both on my head!
horns?
Hee hee. No - one on top, one on the side.
I thought snap dragons were annuals! Clem
They are. Shows you how mild LI is!
We have quite a few that winter over in the crack between the courtyard and the house. No food, water only when it rains and yet they come back year after year.
If you put an effort into them, they'd probably croak!
Oh Louise!
It will be torture to not have your computer for a week. I wish I had one to loan you in the meantime.
Is it the computer or the internet connection that is the problem??
I think it is mild all over, although we had a cold May, must admit! Clem
I had only one snapdragon return out of the 50 or more planted... going to have to save the seeds from that sucker this year... not sure if the snaps self seeded or the strawflowers... seedlings are tiny still... going to give em another week or so before I decide if they are all just weeds or not
I didnt know what it was when I first saw it, there are four of them. I thought they were weeds but they started developing flower buds so I kept them to see what developed. I had to put it up on the ID forum to find out what they were and then I remembered I had dumped some seed toward the end of the summer in that area. We had a very mild winter, we practically had no snow & I never went below 18°. Some of my hanging basket plants from last year fell to the ground and overwintered. - they're not supposed to survive below 35°!
- Today I transplanted 6 cosmos out of my grass into my flower bed... all from last year. ☺
2 snapdragons returned for me from last year. i think i pulled all the rest because i thought they were annuals.
Lovely weather here today too, too bad i had to light two dance recitals - and run the heater in the light booth, the A/C was up so high. Just plain silly, but facilities controls it not us. o well. i have now heard the incredibly irritating "Summer Vacation" and "Fabulous"songs from High School Musical enough times to last me forever and a day.
I just hope that the one returned snap is one that I like... I bought a flat I didn't like last year... but with my luck it might be the ugly one
:)
In our experience most snaps that reseed will be yellow but any that actually winter over will be the original color since it's the original plant. The one in the crack (please get me a name for that one, Victor!) is that dark violet and we love it.

love the yellow snaps... don't think that's a bad thing... funny when I collect seed they come out different colors other than yellow... wonder why the re-seed are yellow... yellow has better seeds than the others?
59 and perfectly clear. Pirl, how about Plumber's Special?
OMG LOL LOL Victor it's monday and your starting off with a flush.
Funny, Victor!
Allison, it just might be that the yellow is the strongest survivor. I don't know why it happens as it does. One of the great mysteries of the world - sort of like, "Why does my cheesecake crack?"
Victor is always ready with a (wise)crack.
63* cool breeze
going for80
Same here for us right now, Jo Ann.
63° and headed for 80. The winds are still blowing, but so far not as hard as they have been for the past week. The humidity is 48% and the dewpoint is 47°. Barometeric pressure is 29.79 in. and steady so far.
The skies are full of big, puffy clouds that sometimes get together and look kinda gray. But, I am so sure that it is not going to rain today.
Kassie i do no think that was clem Josphine. I have some pic's on mine in the camera that I did not get downloaded this weekend. I'll post one later on.
79 degrees and 28% humidity. There is a 16 mph breeze and it's just delightful.
76 and beautiful. Off to a t-ball game in a few minutes.
Nice day, did some major deadheading of tulips and narcissus this morning. Sad that the bulb show is nearly over, but here come the iris. I planned on finishing the veggie bed prep today, but I felt less than good by noon, so I took to my bed. Worked on my garden journal and pictures. So not a total loss.
Here is a new type of scilla for me that is just starting to bloom. I planted 50 of them so I will have a nice burst of blue. I am pleased they bloom so late.
Watercan2, nice clematis. No blooms yet for me. Patti
Nice, warm and sunny today, I even had to put the ac today, my copo (doggie) was so hot in the house! Clemen
Thanks Lynn & Victor---both good solutions--no deer problems here, only chipmunks! I found 3 new holes in 1 perennial bed--busy little suckers! Many flowers are blooming in the beds--will see if I can bring up the iris pic. No--can't find it--will reload tomorrow.
