Clemen--what's a copo?
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 21
Thanks, Robin! I'll give some thought to your raised bed possibilities. Looks like a fun project!
That's so sweet of you, Candyce. Thanks!
Victor - I'm sure it has something to do with Wild Blue being bought out (and home page replaced by) Google while we were away. Since we've been back, nothing has worked right. On top of that, I still have the high security stuff loaded on my computer from my workplace before I retired. We think that Google/Wild Blue & Microsoft & HP & my security stuff are all at war suddenly. I have defragged and done everything we can do, and the Geek Squad said, "Bring it in".......
More importantly - how beautiful it is here now!! The weather was so beautiful today. I had lots of errands, so didn't get to do anything outside, BUT - my WFF order came and both the rose and the black elder look great. No complaints - good instructions and good general info included with the order; plants were well-packed and still moist; the rose was bare-root and the elder was leafed out with unopened blooms ready to pop;
WC - how cool that your snapdragons come up as perennials. I love that color. I had them in Fla. and brought some seeds back. They just germinated and are pretty skinny little things right now.
Talk about odd things wintering over here after a really cold winter......one of my DH's gladiolus actually made it through the winter and came up already! I'm amazed! I was also worried about my roses all winter because I forgot to cover them with a leaf cage, as we usually do. Well, they look the best they've ever looked right now.
I've had glads return in containers left outside!
Drat, I forgot about my glads. I will have to look and see if they are mush in the basement. Maybe I should just leave them in the ground next year. It is such a pain to dig things up in the fall. Now I need to plant the canna and calla and caladiums as the ground has finally warmed up. Most of my snaps made it through the winter. I cut them back hard in the early winter and they are looking good now. But I did buy a few more white, yellow and red ones just in case they don't bloom. Patti
Up here where we are, it is not common to have the snaps, and definitely not the glads, come back. When we lived in Conn. we had lots of snaps winter over well, but not so much here.
Such a nice evening here, but the crickets are chirping so loudly they are a major distraction! I will not complain though, just a few months ago we were griping about the snow!
Wow - a bit early for crickets for here. Usually July.
They are so LOUD!!! Must be time for some lovin'!
Pirl, 'Fireworks' is lovely!!
Thanks!
I worked outside a lot today. Took Little Miss "M" out for about an hour in the mid-morning and we pulled weeds. Well, I pulled weeds - she played on the lawn.
We both got more than a few bug-bites in just that small hour, so I waited until her naptime to go out later and weed some more. My DSIL won't let anyone else touch the weed-eater but him, so I took kitchen scissors to the edges of the lawn that needed to be weed-whacked. Now my fingers hurt a bit, but I have a chocolate bar to help ease the pain ~ LOL!!
it didn't reach 80, but it got nice and warm in the late afternoon. It was just about a perfect day - except for the bugs.
pirl - the clematis is beautiful! it looks like one called "Nellie Moser" that I always admire in the garden catalogs. is it blooming in the shade? how is it supported?
Robin dog, Copo is a bichon frise, lovely child I have, the best, better than my girls!
by the way, no crickets over here, I only like them in the fall. Lynn if you have them already, oh my God, what is happening to us in this world! Clem
Yes, Pirl, very nice. Mine were just opening when I photographed them yesterday. Candyce, don't mention bugs. Got another skeeter bite on my head today. I am not exaggerating when I say it is about 3/4 the size of a golf ball! Looks like I'm getting more allergic.
Is that a current shot of Nelly, Pirl?
I thought it was a bit early for crickets, but I guess they have another agenda! I can't believe how loud they are! Fred and my brother have lost the upper range of their hearing and aren't bothered by them.
Movie's on, so I must pay attention.
Temp 61.5°, Rh 61%. ☺
That's it pirl! My clematis is Nelly Moser not Ramona! ... the nerve of that company selling a Moser labeled as a Ramona! I knew something was fishy right from the start! ☺ (Nice clematis pirl)
Yes Donnie it was a nice surprise, I'm considering making it a habit of planting a few seeds toward the end of the summer, (just throwing a few here and there). That way I'll give myself a pleasant surprise the next year... the only problem is I have to really be careful what I determine is a weed or not! lol! ☺
Slept with the windows open woke to 63* gunna be another warm one with showers
I love June.

Sposta get to 81 here. Hey this is New England! We like the 70s best. 30% chance of thunderstorms later. Glad I just watered the newbie plants and orchids!!
beautiful Nane.... I was in the same way last night... and might be tonight too
Victor ~
I feel your pain about the bugs. I'm not allergic to the mosquitoes, but I am allergic to the black flies. If I get too many bites, then I feel like I have the flu. I hate this time of year. Anna can be out with me at the same time and not be bitten at all. It's just not fair.
Currently, it's 48° and the skies are clear. The humidity is 86% ~ rather uncomfortable already. The dewpoint is 49° and the barometric pressure is at 29.90 in. and steady. There are showers in tomorrow's forecast. But, I won't be holding my breath about getting rain. Gawd! We need rain so bad up here by the lake.
I just bought these.... don't think they work on flies though... but i am a host for mosquito bites too.... let you know how they are... but so far no bites since i have been putting them on... and last week i had one land on me... and i blew it off 3 times before i swatted it on my arm... it didn't bite me though

edit... i keep wondering if just taking b1 vitamins would help... that's what's in the patch

Hmm - I already take B1 in a B complex. 57 and sunny. Supposed to be humid and mid-80's today. Yuck. Washout tomorrow.
Just had huge black clouds and thunder
5 minutes of drops and nuttin now.
Day is supposed to be cloudy, I had hoped for more rain than that.
the box says smoking or drinking may need to apply two patches... so i am assuming that because i smoke can be one of the reasons i get all bit up... takes away the b1 out of my system
Thanks, Allison. I had seen something like that on QVC. I'll have to look into it more. I hate spraying bug spray all over my head because I taste it all day long, and I can't wait for a shower!!
me too... i can't stand the way it feels, smells and tastes... man if i was allergic to flies i would have been in big trouble with the horses... when i rode.... I feel for you
Last year the liquid catnip really seemed to help, but not this year. I wonder if it lost its potency. I liked it because it had no smell and was not greasy. I tried garlic pills and that never helped. I never smoked so I'm sure my B1 level is up there.
just tasty maybe
:)
Did you attract cats, Victor?
LOL
Glorious out. 61 and heading up to the mid 70's. I need to get going. Rain tomorrow, which means planting must happen late today.
I feel for those who get ill from bug bites. Black flies and skitters don't effect me, but those dang deer ticks love me. I do believe I must emit a smell that attracts them. The more carbon dioxide a person gives off the more many bugs are attracted to as well as by body heat. Victor, you must be a hot and heavy breathing kind of guy.
Pirl, love the clematis and, more, the whole garden scene. Beautiful as always.
Nanegoat66, great rock work. Bet you were tired. Do you have fish. I am getting the fish bug. But not going to do it at least for another year or more. Too much work. We turn our stream off at night or when we are away. I don't think the fish would like that. But I did wander into a pond shop while off island last week end to look at koi. Patti
Patti - I put in 23 cent feeder gold fish to "test" the water about a month ago. They are very happy and growing. You're right about fish being particular about having the water turned off - you better wait. LOL
Clem - after grooming for 12 years I can attest to the great personalities of bichons!
Allison - Thanks. It's a good tired, though.
They're so smart aren't they and stuborn! Clem
LOL
