Today's Weather in Your Garden - 21
We had rain from about 6 to 6:15. No downpour - just rain. Glorious sunset.
- Ours lasted around 45 min, still cloudy. ☺
Pirl - yes, I got mine from Bill. He sent them right away to Florida and I saved half to bring north with me. I kept them in panty hose to keep them from getting mushy. I think I only lost one to mush. I've never seen bigger caladium leaves in my life than those I planted in Florida. I hope they do as well here. I also bought some elephant ears from him. Can't wait to see how those do! Mine don't have sprouts on them yet.
Pixie - your caladiums look awesome!
Huge differences! Bill does send huge bulbs.
Cuties!
How adorable, Harper!
How adorable! The one facing the camera looks so much like you, Harper!
Thunderstorm just went thru after a disgusting muggy day. Says it topped out at 71 degrees sure felt a whole lot hotter.
Harper they are beautiful little girls!!
Yes, I still think she looks like you but you do have all your teeth. They're lovely. Are they twins?
Thank you! Lilya, the one sitting up, is two years old. She has Down Syndrome. Camille, the one on her belly, will be a year in mid-June. They are both total sweeties. Camille was teething this past week, and she was a little cranky, but still a sweetie.
Such cute babies! They must truly be a joy.
They are. : )
Kids with down syndrome are the most sweet and loving kids.
She gives great hugs, and she's patient, too! Lilya knew what she wanted and waited very patiently. Camille on the other hand, had no patience at all. They were just so cute! I took them on several tours around the yard, telling them all about each plant and flower. They listened very well!
what sweet little girls!
My cousin Amy had Down's Syndrome and one of the things that amazed me most was her incredible memory! She was an extremely loving and giving child, and never forgot anything...even a person's name that she met only once the year before!!
KRAAAAPPPPS Low last night of 37*
of course it nearly froze I just planted the replacements from RosyDawn that came at 4:00
We hit 80 yesterday! It is 47 here this morning should get up to 64 today and another 72-75 tomorrow. I really need some rain here but at least if it's not raining it's nice .
I posted the last befor I noticed the FROST on my neighbors car ,and the lawn and roof tops.
None of the news stations said anything about it or I would have covered my coleus.
Now I will just wait an see if most that were planted in containers on the deck excaped.
Plants like tomatoes, coleus, dahlias, caladium, impatiens do NOT want temperatures that cold. Most are native to very mild climates so it's up to us to provide them with warmth until ALL danger of frost is past. Many will either die on the spot or simply languish in the soil and never perform their best if they are planted too soon.
WHO knew when too soon was. Last frost date around here was May18th.
I'm glad you responded Pirl, how soon befor I know to replace the replacements?
I might just go for other annuals I can buy here. That was about $200. worth of spinach.
None of the weather channels I check said anything about FROST warning or I would have covered.
Ge, sorry about your weather, it is usually me at this time of the year who gets the late frost.
Maine has had a very strange spring....hardly any rain, cool nights in the 40's but our days are running anywhere from 60-80 lately. At this time of the year it is normally wet and we can burn out fields brush piles ect.. NOT this year. We are on a fire danger watch from lack of rain and windy conditions for a few weeks now.
50 and breezy. Should be nice. Sorry, Jo Anne. Do you have WeatherBug on your computer? They give frost warnings.
Thanks Victor I will definatly add it, like locking the barn after the horse has been stolen but this isn't just a garden for 2008 so I'll have it for next year's too.
Wind from the NNE (030 degrees) at 23 MPH (20 KT) gusting to 33 MPH (29 KT)
Visibility 10 mile(s)
Sky conditions partly cloudy
Temperature 52.0 F (11.1 C)
Home from 5 days in Vt. We drove through some wild storms yesterday in the Boston area. We headed home via a stop In Framingham at "Garden in the Woods". We did a rather hurried walk through the gardens before the skies opened up. We had fair warnings with all the thunder. The one thing that became obvious from the visit is that I need a book on ferns. Wow, what a collection. I had not been in years.
We brought a friend back here for a few days who is game to do some heavy work outside with us. I am beyond happy for his help. He is a big guy and loves playing in the dirt, as he now lives in a city apartment in NY. So no rain please.
First, I am out to see what bulbs are still blooming in our garden and then to start organizing the planting of the veggie garden. I picked up 10 tomato cages yesterday at job lot. All my seedling flats survived my absence in the living room. I need to get them transplanted too. But my big hope is to get my DH and friend to move the big eyesore of a boat which will change things dramatically. Fingers crossed. Have a good day all. Patti
I am officially "weatherbugged" Thanks Victor
We're supposed to get down to 40.
I have the 'weatherbug' on my computer, too, Jo Ann, and it has saved many a plant over the past year. It's another good tool to have to help us take care of our plant babies.
The little girls in the above posts are just so sweet and angelic!! They make me want to just run over and pick them up and give them a great big 'grandma' hug!!
We never did get any of the rain yesterday, and I watched the radar as it poured buckets over Victor and pirl. I really expected it to come here as well, but no! Nary a drop landed in my gardens. I'm just glad that I was able to water so early yesterday morning.
Right now, the skies are crystal clear and the temps are at 46°. That doggone wind is still here, but it has changed direction since yesterday. It's NW at 9 MPH, bring in the cooler temps for today. The humidity is at 46% which is A LOT lower than yesterday. The dewpoint is 29°, and the barometric pressure is 30.14 in. and rising.
Tomorrow will be another warm one.
We could be in trouble during the overnight tonight as well. They say 35° - 38° for the lows. I dunno ....
I'm shredding sheets as we speak. I don't plan to loose any more annuals.
Saw a nasty cutworm thisAM.
Shure enough my Campanuls Joan Elliott is half on the ground.
Poor plant, it barely exhisted at the old house, was doing great in the new spot but today,? I dunno
I don't think Pirl got much rain. I certainly did. Not sure how much since I moved my gauge for the patio work. It's chilly out right now - especially in the shade.
