Perfect day today. Let's hope it continues! Here's another shot out my window the other night.
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 21
Wow, wow, wow! Victor! That photo is wonderful......love how you silhouetted the evergreens against that gorgeous backdrop!
Thank you. I see a face in the clouds as well.
Now that you mention it I see it too, looking down in benevolence for us gardeners.
He does have a smile!
You are a real treasure Victor!
Thank you, Jo Anne. My wife does often mention burying me...
I doubt it! LOL
Hey, how do you know the benevolence from above isn't a she?
Anyway, an absolutely perfect day. I washed windows yesterday and today, but managed to do some weeding to spell myself. Kind of unsettling being up on an extension ladder and crawling out of windows onto the roof to access the windows, but these were definitely the days to do it. I wanted to do this while my neighbors were away for the weekend to avoid an audience while working. No parties for us this holiday weekend, but that's all right. Lots of time to celebrate this summer!
For those who don't check in tomorrow, have a peaceful and reflective Memorial Day. Remember those who sacrificed for our freedom. And enjoy any barbeques with the nice weather, if it holds.
Oh yeah, it's still 71 and clear with no wind and low humidity. Perfect!

WC--your clematis are beautiful! Victor--can't wait to see patio photos--the sunsets are gorgeous. Weather in NH was cool, but nice--warmed up today when we left--very little traffic on I-91--either gas prices are keeping folks home, or we traveled at a good time. Put in 3 hours planting when I got home--those of you in NH---try to get to Edgewater Farm in Plainfield--it belongs to friends of ours, but it is fantastic--15 greenhouses---some very exotic plants, pick your own strawberries & I believe peaches, too, plus a farmstand later in the season, & down the road the family dairy--best chocolate milk--ever! Of course, I had to bring home some plants--my DH kept saying no more than 10 min. in the greenhouses---HEEHEE--like I listened!
Sounds like fun, Robin. I join you in your reflections, Lynn. I always couple Memorial and Veterans Days with Thanksgiving and Independence Day. We owe everything we have to those who fought for what we take for granted. Many did not get the chance to enjoy the gifts we enjoy - the freedoms they fought and died for.
Fantastic day for gardening and that's what I did all day long.
Please participate in any tributes to our fallen heroes tomorrow. Attend parades and any tributes paid to those who died to insure our freedom. It's the very least we can do.
Great photos both Victor and WC!
Beautiful pictures, WC love the Baltimore Oriole, and Victor, you can't beat our beautiful Hudson Valley sky.
Perfect weather at last! Gardened all day, plan to do some more tomorrow, with time to go to our little town's annual Memorial Day parade and cheer the troops both young and old, plus the fire and rescue and police officers. Have the '51 Chevy all decked out with little flags in the back to show our colors.
I heard and then saw my first Oriole this past week. I believe I've seen an Oriole nest hanging from a tree overlooking the road we walk. This is so exciting since I've only ever seen pics in books! I wish it was on my property so I could keep daily tabs on it.
The grand finale just rang through from the Sons of Italy fair that was going on here in S. Dutchess. We didn't go this year with so many cores to be done and the perfect weather with which to to do them!

Moonlight Strain 6' tall trumpet lilies. Planted with Lime Sorbet aqualegias and rasberry monarda
Oh my! You are starting off warm today, Jo Ann. For us, we are looking at those high, thin clouds and 40°. The wind is barely perceptible, so far, at 5 MPH and coming from the South. The humidity is at about 69% and we have a 'Fire Danger' warning for most of the morning. The dewpoint is 42° and the barometric pressure is 29.95 in. and rising.
Lynn ~ I though I was the only one who hung out of the windows to wash them. I can't get up onto the roof, though, so you have me beat there. I bet everything is sparkling and shining for you this morning because of your extra effort.
Happy Memorial Day everyone.
48 right now but predicticted to go up to 76-78 today!!
59.6, sunshine and light breezes.
Ah! Another perfect day.
Sunny at 6AM but lottsa dark clouds now
Scattered showers I think.
No rain, where is it?
YEAAH I should have watered anyway.
We just had wind and sun and clouds, not complaining ,just needed the rain.
Hope it comes tonight as predicted.
I'm glad I watered yesterday, even with the rain predicted.
Nice today - but too hot for what I was doing - getting ready for the patio work. Lots of heavy stuff. I was dying. Hit about 83 or 84 here. Supposed to cool down quite a bit after tomorrow's rain. Overnight lows in the 40's again! Glad I haven't done my veggies yet. And my caladium bulbs are supposed to go in when overnight temps are 65 or above! July?
Temp 66.3°, Wind S 9.0 mph, Baro 29.67↓. ☺
Sunny with temp topping off at 72°, windy all day with gusts to 18 mph. Had same problem with caladium bulbs - gave up and put them in, found them harder than expected to start indoors even with heating mat and harder still to maintain root growth once started. Soil temp 55° @ 6" depth. Had better luck with dahlias which are doing fine outside now.
Caladiums take about 6 weeks to emerge (for me) regardless of the heating mat this year, or in pots in the sun last year on a wooden bench. This year I planted them in pots and have them on the brick terrace. I bet it still will be 6 weeks.
I will wait at least another week.
Pirl - just yesterday I put mine from the co-op in pots and put them in a sunny window in our family room. Want to have a race???? LOL (Bet we tie......at 6 weeks!)
I'll get the date I planted mine, Louise, and bet they're very close in emerging.
Shame on HD for selling all those caladium bulbs back in March with nightime lows in the upper 20s!! ☺
I'm sure many people bought them!
Me included! lol! ☺
Looks like brown bag is as good a medium as any!
Try it and let us know.
(Bill can't count. Every bag marked "10" had at least 13 in it.)
I like those errors! I have not counted yet. Mine are just breathing.
Pirl - yours are already growing??? Mine haven't sent up pinkies yet........I think this is a race I may lose!! LOL
Low 70s here right now and we had a passing sprinkle. I hope there is some steady rain for tonight but in my dreams, a nice day tomorrow. I think we're due for some rain, though.
What a glorious day today! Warm with lots of sun and a nice wind to keep things comfortable. We did stroll through the local cemetery to honor the men and women who served our country in the different wars. Took some photos of the graves of some Revolutionary War veterans. Thanks to all who gave service to our country and have passed on.

Louise - mine arrived with the buds sprouting on most of them. There was just one variety where they hadn't sprouted so I guess they're later by nature. We'll see how well they do. The Home Depot ones hadn't begun to sprout at all. Did you buy yours from Bill?
