Haves - Wants Pt II - May Swap

Strasburg, VA(Zone 6b)

happy, i'd like to try some begonia :-)

Laurel, MD(Zone 7a)

happy, I thought I had sent a request for the begonia and coleus and adenophora but can't find it now. If there are enough, please add me. Thank you.

Crozet, VA

Wow, seems a lot like last summer's swap when we were begging each other to take things home. ha-ha

First off, Jody I didn't realize that you would be attending, but am delighted to see that you are. Also the the other person with last name thomas who is coming. Come on over, you will have a blast.

John just reminded me that we have plenty Lariope to share if there is anyone wanting any. Let me know.

I think that I just understood from my reading that a couple of you have geraniums to share. I will take any geranium that anyone has remaining. I believe that one of the people was Happy, but I am almost ashamed to ask her because there were so many other things that I have already asked for from her list. But.....

Critter, I wrote down to bring you some Pineapple Sage.

If anyone else sees that I have missed posting about their wants, let me know. As a precaution, I will post about midday tomorrow of what all I am bringing to others. If everyone will check that list and update me if need be, that will enable me to have everything potted or packaged and won't have to do it on Saturday morning. Thanks everyone.

Ruby

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

I think (hope) I've gotten everyone's requests dug now.

I had "crop failure" on the varigated water celery, sorry :( I have it planted in the ground around the pond and I guess it just couldn't cope with the drought last year.

I didn't get the thalictrum dug :( sorry. I should have dug it early when I first posted instead of waiting but no one requested any until this past week and now it is a monster with a crown so hard and thick I don't wanna mess with it right now.

Oh, and please see my note above about the arums. There really is something in the pots even though it just looks like soil, LOL.

Everything else is dug and ready to go. :)

Strasburg, VA(Zone 6b)

happy....i hate to ask, but i'd like to try some mazus.....was trying to find out if it's juglone tolerant, but i have some places away from my black walnuts that i'd like to try to find some groundcover for anyway....i'm so tired of my f.o.m.b. grass (fall on my butt when trying to pull!!!) :-)
i have plenty of padding for the falls, just can't take them as well as i did 20 years ago!

Crozet, VA

I have two more additions to things that I have available. Lariope galore and wild Blackberry plants.

Anyone?

Ruby

Strasburg, VA(Zone 6b)

blackberry plants?????

yum!

as long as it isn't too much trouble....we have wild raspberry plants and i swear they reach out and grab and scratch as i walk by!

Crozet, VA

Got your request noted Lar.

Ruby

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Happy I'm trying to go into the swap like Mad Max into Thunderdome. "Three flats enter. One flat leave."

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Ruby - if you have enough might I beg some Pineapple Sage off of you?
Happy - what type of Brug do you have?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Happy,

Is the Begonia you are giving me a houseplant or an annual? I will gladly accept-----

You all know my space is very limited, that's why I am not asking for a lot. Also--you all that just use the horticultural names.....I have No idea what you are talking about....Might be missing out on something I "could" find a place for.

Help me find WHO posted the link to ordering the book on propagating everything! It was from Amazon. I think it was in one of these Posts.....
I looked at the link and then decided I did not want to spend that much money....Now I am re-thinking it.

Thanks, Gita

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

hart posted it for Becky - I'll try to find it, Gita

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I've exceeded my permitted number of DG edits for the day. I'm sorry if I didn't pick up some of the requests -- I thought I had them in, but I keep running into the edit limit, nd then the little scraps of paper on which I write stuff down get lost . . . . But I'll update my list tomorrow, starting with Larlienda's post on the 22nd.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Here you go Gita. This one is good for cuttings and that type of propagation
http://www.amazon.com/American-Horticultural-Society-Propagation-Plant/dp/0789441160

This one is good for seeds. (Both books have some information on both types of propagation but each is better in a different area and the first one has a lot more pictures.)
http://www.amazon.com/Gardeners-Guide-Growing-Flowers-Bloom/dp/1580175171/ref=pd_sim_b_img_31

You might also want to try Ebay or half.com for these books. Might be able to find them cheaper although you will have to pay shipping there while Amazon has free shipping on any book order over $25.

Gita, if you go to the original haves/wants thread, I have live links there to I think everything I have. Just click on the links for photos, common names, etc. The links didn't work after I cut and pasted them here.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Devon:

Can you put one of each of Coleus Glory of Luxembourg & Coleus Kingwood Carnival aside for me, pretty please!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Everyone: Something really odd seems to have happened with my edits yesterday -- I seem to have lost many edits to my "haves" list. For some reason, DG let me edit more than the usual limit would have permitted. But today, it looks as if some of my edits didn't "take" so I am wondering if those excess edits weren't really saved. I am now going to recheck, but I won't have time to check every post -- I'll probably work in the reverse order I did yesterday. But if you have a moment and can check that I have you down for everything you asked for, I'd appreciate it. I would hate not to fill a request just because my list was inaccurate. I have to get up early to get out a project for a client that I promised would be in her email before she gets to work at 8 am, so I can't stay up late!

Here is the link: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/editpost.php?pid=4986371.

Chantell: I lost the ID on the brug a long time ago -- it came from Behnke's maybe 8 years ago. Cream colored flowers. I cut it back several weeks ago and hadn't tossed the cuttings when I saw Wrightie's request. I don't know if the cuttings are too old to be rooted now, but I'll bring them if they don't look shriveled up on Saturday, and you are welcome to stick them in a pot if you want to.

Gita: The begonia that I just added is tropical, but you can pitch it after the summer if you don't love it (or before, for that matter!).

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Everyone..........

Being the organized soul I am--I sorted all my "Wants" for people in boxes and labeled them all. Only have ONE box of "available to anyone" stuff....YEAH!
That takes a lot of "must do's" off my list.

Tomorrow evening i will load up the car and then Sat. morning I am ready to go.
Still have to do cuttings off my Camellia for Happy. Leaving that for last minute.....

Everyone--Have a safe trip to Bec's! Take your time---look out for the other drivers--NO road rage!...Promise???? Don't speed past logical----Let the lane-hoppers go....you will meet them all again at the next stop-light....Pull over if you need to "regroup".

See you all at Bec's......Gita

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Everyone: I think I have my list up-to-date now, but please let me know if you spot any omissions. Also please don't hesitate to keep asking for stuff; I won't finish potting plants up until Saturday morning.

Jody: You asked for Sedums, but I never confirmed whether you want the low growing kind, or the tall ones (like Sedum Autumn Joy). I assumed the former, but for no particular reason. I also have Autumn Joy, but everyone has that so I assumed you wouldn't want it. Let me know.

Sally: If you really have Heritage Raspberries to toss, I'd gladly take some.

Wyldflwr, Jody and Larlienda: You each asked for begonias. I assume you mean the angelwings, not the hardy begonias. Let me know. I have plenty of the hardy begonias, and can give you each a plug of the angelwings, so if you want both that's fine.

Ruby: I have everything you asked for, so no worries. My geranium is the perennial Geranium that is hardy, not Pelargonium x hortorum; I just wanted to be sure you are ok with that.

I'm sorry to say, we aren't going to make it this time, sigh. We have some things going on here and are not going to be able to make it "work". Maybe next time. Y'all have fun!

Adamstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Happy - Jill is my "agent" tomorrow -- I would love some of the burgundy ajuga and and Solomon's Seal that isn't already spoken for.

I'm delivering cuttings (not rooted) of American Honeysuckle -- John Clayton -- and about a dozen clumps of Happy Returns daylilies to Jill's house this afternoon.

Sounds like a lovely day tomorrow for all of you! Have fun and take lots of pictures.

Sherry

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Ok! Warning -- I don't have much solomon's seal to share; I just put it on the list because someone else had specifically "wanted" it. But it does (slowly) spread into a nice colony, in a shady setting.

I can't edit my post -- I've exceeded my edits again. Hopefully I'll remember your request. I'll try try try to!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm wrapping and bagging cuttings... put in a couple little bundles of Streptocarpella 'Concord Blue', a nice little hanging basket plant that roots pretty easily in water or moist potting mix. Hart, the first round of plectranthus cuttings didn't make it (I think Eliot kitten got hold of them), but I put some fresh ones in a baggie for you.

If nobody requests spider plant "spiders," then I won't bring any... I'll figure everybody already has them! I will bring a couple of curly spider babies and figure they'll find a home because they're pretty cute.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Becky, you mentioned house plant cuttings... what can you use? I've got rooted swedish ivy cuttings, various kinds of wandering jew, etc for hanging baskets... might be able to snag a few plectranthus (silver or purple) and angel wing begonia cuttings if anybody can use those...

Adamstown, MD(Zone 6b)

No problem if anything is spoken for - I'm really just happy to share these daylilies. I haven't really followed the swap threads since I won't be there. I wrote what I would be interested in on the flap of my box that I'm taking to Jill and if anybody has any of it left, they can toss it in. If not, that's fine, too. The planting is already ahead of me and now with Bluestone's sale . . . I've got my first round at a shopping cart saved and I'm editing it as I work in my garden today . . . . not good for my pocketbook but good for the soul, yes?

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Nutmegnana -- no worries on the Solomon's Seal -- I just worried that I'd get a rush of other requests. I can probably handle one more . . . .

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I realize it's "late" to ask....but is anyone interested in INdoor cacti? Some of these are pretty good sized in 6" pots

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Nutmegnana -- a clarification -- I meant I can handle one more after yours.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

OK, boxing up tomato extras... trying not to bring way too many this time, LOL. I've got 16 mixed heirloom plants that y'all can split between you (marked a nice round red variety for Sally's mom... I don't know the name of this one, but it's tried & true in my garden for the past 5 years). I'm also bringing 2 sets of 4 cherry tomatoes in a mix of red, gold, yellow, and black. It's fine with me if somebody wants to split up a set, but that's how they're being packed. :-) Plus, I'll put in a 'Silver Fir Tree' (lovely foliage) or two.

I'm not sure how many extra basils I'll be bringing, if any. The flat I potted up a couple weeks ago doesn't look too good after my absences... I've got enough for me, looks like, but not a lot of good looking extra plants. Sorry to any who were hoping! Let me know if you need seeds!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Jill,

How many pots (1 gal--4 bulbs each) of the "Naked Lady" Lilies ( aka Resurection Lilies) do you want me to tag for you?
So far, I have tagged 3 with your name and 3 for Happy. I know Happy said somewhere she will take whatever is left over. Here's your chance! This will still leave 5 pots that others could have....OR--Happy and you can share them if no one else wants any.

Three pots will give each of you 12-14 bulbs (different sizes), but at least 2 big ones in each. They are pretty big bulbs! Like the largest daffodil bulb you can imagine..... just really pointed at the top. I would say--plant them at least 6" apart.

They seem to clump a lot--or so I gathered from digging them up. I know the new owner plans to clear the whole bed (by the kitchen door) of whatever is growing in there. Hope I am home.....There are SOOOOOO many lilies all around the house. SO root-bound that they have not bloomed for years! I don't even know what color they are....I would think, just some kind of regular day Lilies....

It is a shame--as I have now met one of his daughters that is a co-owner of this house--and she seems to be very interested in gardening and plants. Wants to "pump" my brain! But as their Culture would have it (Pakistan), whatever the head of the Family (the Father) decides--is done! No one would dare suggest otherwise.....Shame!

LOL! And I am their neighbor! With MY mouth!!! He holds NO "cultural control" over ME!!!! Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa......

Gita....:-O

Shenandoah Valley, VA

And you know if any other woman suggested anything different to him, he'd get his pater familias back up and refuse to let the ladies have even a potted begonia or bulldoze the entire yard.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Maybe planting some Ragweed/Poison ivy on the border between the two yards might be an idea BAD, Chantell....bad bad bad....time out w/you

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

To those people who asked for my Angel Wing and Coleus plugs from a co-op, on inspection these are really really tiny and don't look like much, and I only have one plant each for you of each variety -- apologies. I hope they will fill in quickly. (These are extra from a co-op purchase I made, but then a lot of them died in the torrential rain so I didn't have as many left-over as I thought.)

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Jody and Sally -- you asked for Ajuga and I have 2 kinds -- the regular solid green, and then burgundy glow. Did you want both (which is fine -- just checking)? Hart, I have you covered with both.

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

happy, no worries on the coleus for me. I've got a whole flat I started from seed (back in Feb!).... they are less than a half inch tall though so I was just looking for something I could actually see, LOL.

as for the ajuga; which ever you can share :)

Ok... last call. I've got extra of the following potted:
vinca vine
artemesia oriental limelite
Choc joe pye
yarrow
sedums
lily of the valley
petasites
daylilies
dwarf iris smell the roses
euonymous
oh, and some perennial ageratum and some variegated ivy

any takers? I've got about 1 ea extra already packed but have several other pots of most.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Did I already ask you for the chocolate joe pye? LOL, I'm losing track! If you have any dwarf or shorter DLs, especially in shades of pink or purple, I'd love some... (sorry to sound picky, but I've got lots of other DL seedlings to find space for this summer!)

Please double check my list and see if there's anything you'd like other than the creeping thymes... I've got 2 kinds for you and will try to pot up another one or two yet tonight (running out of steam but we'll see how it goes, LOL).
