Jan,
You are too funny!
Carrie,
Best of luck with the garage sale.
Harper's Birthday - Part 6!
Groan. Thanks, Candyce. Have you ever had one?
Oh yes, Carrie, I have. One! That was enough to cure me of the desire to make a little cash, rather than try and Freecycle stuff, or send it to the landfill.
Thankfully, I have made a lot of people happy through Freecycle.
I don't want to get rich quick, I just want to get rid of all this crud! (And have my DH and DDs help me sort through everything and choose what stays and what goes!) I thought it would be cheaper than renting a dumpster and easier than Freecycle - I've done that too.
Well then. To be perfectly honest, there's nothing easy about de-cluttering the house ... even when you have people to help do it with you. It took years for our house to get de-cluttered. After all,m it didn't get that way overnight, and it certainly won't get de-cluttered overnight.
Oh Yeah! Have a happy De-Cluttering Birthday, Harper!
Yankee, the cats are doing great. They're very happy.
Good luck with your garage sale. If I'm that desperate to get rid of junk, I call up the Salvation Army and they'll come right to my door and take it all away. I love those guys.
Thanks Candyce!
Hi Jan!
Harper
Hey ho
I keep trying to give stuff to DDILs, but if my boys catch me they try to refuse. lol
I've heard about Freecycle - will have to check it out.
Have a great evening everyone :)
The more you own the more you have to clean. I dont like a bunch of "stuff" in my house. We go to auctions and I resell on ebay. If you saw my office you would get dizzy. If you saw the spare bedroom you would faint. If you got in the big garage, you would never find your way out. Heres 1 pic that is sitting in my office for almost 2 years now. Its carved with MOP. A God of some religion/culture praying over a village by the sea.
Wow, Sherrie, that's nice. How old do you think it is?
It's lovely and I love MOP!!!
There will be no garage sales in my future. One was enough to cure me for life! I have a neighbor in Fla. who is always getting the neighbors together to have them. I've told her that I'd pay good money NOT to participate! LOL
My thoughts, exactly, Louise.
That's good information, Sue!
Has anyone had luck with a yard sale?
You have? Good to hear. Antiques? Wait, I'm not selling DH!!!!
Happy birthday, Harper!
Carrie ... 'DH'! How funny!
HB Harper!!!
Antiques in a yard sale? And you do well? I'm impressed.
Stay cool, everyone!
Dog days of summer. I've felt like a mad dog lately. Today's still very humid, but not so hot. A whole house attic fan will do me some good.
I've always wanted to, but never have had a garage sale. I've given away tons of stuff to freecycle and the Salvation Army/Goodwill and guys like that.
We've postponed ours to Aug. 16. Too hot and rainy and the kids are playing with their foreign cousins - aren't around to help. But we (I) have already cleaned out the linen closet (first time in 15 years that we did the whole thing, top to bottom, really thoroughly), gotten rid of a lot of clothes, just any time I see something I don't love, I say "let's sell that, too". And of course there's a pledge that whatever we don't sell gets hauled away by somebody the next day.
Harper, we could have matching yard sales - how's the 16th for you?
All I can say is this ....
congratulations to both of you for clearing out the stuff you domn't love anymore, and best of luck with your garage/yard sales!
Happy birthday, Harper!
Well, today was an awfully RAINY birthday, Harper, but HB anyway. Wouldn't it be better if they could organize the weather and not have all the rain in one day?
Thank you, Candyce, but I'm nowhere near done! And (hanging head in abject shame) last night I bought some sheets for DD#2 who proved to have not very many, compared with how often I'd like her to change them! And she should get to love hers too, as long as they're on sale!!!!
Just a quick check in to let you know I'm following the progress of Harper's BD. I want to make sure ya'll are behaving up there!
Carrie, your DH may be an antique, but perhaps he has that special luster of a fine patina that comes from being well worn? I know that's the case with mine. lol
Harper, I hope October is not anticlimactic! You are going to be so spoiled by then. Where are the updated kitty photos?
Jan, nice to see your newness here and there.
Laurel
Before the "Antiques Road Show" DH and I would attend auctions in Kamloops (prior to moving to the States) and you could get FABULOUS bargins on antiques - especially if you owned a house large enough to accomodate LARGE pieces that most modern dining rooms etc can handle.
A friend bought a HUGE, ornately carved, oversized fireplace mantlepiece and frame that originally had been installed in an old Victorian hotel. They got it for a song (something like $200). I can't imagine how much they would have paid new, or where they would purchase such a thing, but it wouldn't surprise me that new it would cost over $8,000. I mean, the dimensions were something like 12 feet wide and 10 feet tall - all carved mahogany with a beveled mirror. Totally unbelievable. , , ,
Thanks, Laurel. Oh and toooo funny about the luster and patina from being well worn. Loved it.
Happy Birthday, Harper
Sherrie, so sorry to hear about your ban today. You'll just have to "plant shop" instead - tee-hee.
We love ARS also, seandor.
It's fun, Michaela, I can so hear your voice saying
Totally unbelievable. , , ,
Let me know if this is getting too long - I can make a new one.
Hi everybody! Thanks for the birthday wishes. :)
Harper
Hey Sue, I think it's OK for a bit longer.
Happy soggy birthday wishes, Harper. It's still damp, wet, and rainy here where I am. I hope the sun is shining on you today.
Oh, it's nice here today, and cool, so far. Great weather for a birthday!
Yup, it's beautiful here.
It's sweltering here - hot and humid, and icky. We will probably have more thunderstorms tonight.
Sweltering here too. The heat woke me up.
Just now, Harper? I went to the Farmer's Market and almost collapsed, ok, it wasn't that bad, but I did head straight home to my *n*e*w* refrigerator that makes ice and had an icy drink.
HB Harper!!!
OHHH I am coveting a N*E*W refrigerator.
I got new appliances too! Except mine make things hot, not cold. I got a new wall oven, cooktop and hood. My old wall oven was from 1960 and was brand name "Waste King". It did it's job, too. It wasted every meal I made in it if I didn't keep a close eye on it. The cooktop is a four burner like before, but is wider and has a place for my teakettle to go!
It looks great! What time is dinner?
Congrats, harper, on the new appliances. Too funny about "wasting" meals. I've never heard of "Waste King" before.
Ditto to what Nance asked about the time.
