Hey all. What a fabulous day it was for Longwood Gardens. I wanted to move in there. I can't even begin to describe how beautiful it was. Hope these pics tell part of the story. Thanks Chris for organizing it. Had a great time meeting everyone.
Here's a pic of all that went. Harry, Wind, Ruby, Ladygardener,Gita, Shirley, me, John, Sally. My mother in law Jeannette and Ruby's niece(Angela) are not shown-they're the ones taking the pics.
This pic is the peirce-du Pont house(their "winter house"). Very neat tour inside, background info on the du Ponts, the kitchen actually had a safe for the silver!

Main fountain garden. They have fountain shows at certain times of the day. On the 4th of July they will have fireworks with the show.

I was wondering how they were going to allow you to go into the treehouses without having to climb a tree. Beautiful pictures! Good you had better weather than the earlier dire TV forecasts were predicting.

The one of the main rooms of the conservatory(which is absolutely HUGE!!!)...this pic does not do it justice.
The resident cat, just sleeping away, must be used to all the people by now.

I did take a pic of every blue and purple flower that I could find there for my 5 yr old son, he was torn between coming with us and going to his friend's b-day party...he chose the party.
Hi flowerjen :) love all your photos!!!! Did your son like the blues you photographed? I figured even though we were all taking photographs of the same things, our photos would be very different except for the group photo which is pretty much the same. I didn't get any of the Italian water garden, close up orchids, topiary garden, or the tree houses and love your photos! I can't wait to see everyone else's too.

The Peirce-du Pont House dates from 1730 and is the oldest building at Longwood Gardens. This is the North wing.
The Peirce wing is connected to the North wing. The inside was very interesting, especially the old kitchen and the electric towel dryer from 1911.
I loved these long spurred yellow columbines...the photo got over-exposed though...they had large pots with columbines just outside the restaurant where we all had lunch.

Princess-trees (Paulownia tomentosa) were in full bloom! I first saw these blooms in a Park's seed catalog which only had a close up like this and I had no idea it was a tree until someone on the cottage gardening forum filled me in :)
I know they can be invasive but we figured Longwood has the staff to keep them in check and looking spectacular, which they were!
