hee hee- yes it will print out like a 'real' article! the internet is veddy veddy good to me. imagine, all it is , is knowing how to write...and patience to work on a little technical stuff. Any of you could do it!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Great job, Sally! You captured the essence and beauty of Longwood Gardens in your article. I know everyone at DG will enjoy reading it.

I wore my DG tee shirt to Bluestone yesterday, one of the ladies at check out was saying how good DG folks were to them, giving them good reviews of their plants. She asked if I worked for DG, I told her no, just a member and said we have a lot of fun on the site, and about our Longwood garden trip.

Speaking of Dave's tee shirts......I wore mine for a while last Saturday at Jody's swap. It wasn't as awful as I thought it might be. I decided to use it to garden in. I wore it outside yesterday to play in the dirt and now it is in dirty clothes hamper waiting for me to wash it. Expensive gardening outfit, but what the hey!!!

thanks fellow Longwoodies~~

a Dave's tee shirt probably Should have big hand smudges around the bottom!

LOL! I've got a couple of the old grey ones, but even with that base color they're picking up clay stains... I'm thinking of over-dying the grey, maybe even trying some tie-dye. They could use livening up, anyway!

Sally, just read your article - it was great - then had to go look up flowerjens thread that linked this one. I'll be in the area in August and may have to fit this in now...

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Thanks, debilu! You won't be disappointed!

Sally, your article is bringing this lurker out of the woodwork - just wanted to say again how much I enjoyed it and being able to vicariously share such a wonderful experience with such great folks - I already posted my comment over there.

Critter, thanks for the info on the DG writers' group. Someday, when I finish (well, maybe get it to a satisfactory point) volunteering for writing the morning glory forum stickey, I'd like to try submitting some articles for DG - there are so many gardeners around here that I think would also be worthwhile to prod, from time to time, too.

Sally, how 'bout contributing some more articles - there's Kenilworth (Kenillworth?) Gardens and Lilypons - 2 wonderful aquatic gardens in our area. And then there's the National Arboretum just outside of Washington, DC - that would take several trips - their funding is being seriously cut - such a shame - it's a huge, bucolic oasis with many gardens. Cylburn Park in Baltimore - been a while since I've been there. Oh! and Brookside Gardens in Wheaton - I love their fragrant garden and there's a Japanese garden on a small lake and so much else.

Yup - if ya hang around with DG enablers long enuf, it kinda turns ya into one yerself :)

ps - for us slow dial-uppers, how 'bout a new thread for Longwood & other possible garden excursions?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I'll go do a new thread and get back here to link in a minute.

Here's a thread for your comments on gardens to visit in Mid Atlantic.

ps..I am just MAD about those Paulownia trees!!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Hey Jeanne,

Thanks for stopping by and visiting the Mid Atlantic Forum! Glad you enjoyed our trip and pictures from Longwood Gardens. It was a spectacular day filled with gorgeous gardens, beautiful flowers, unusual plants, tree houses to climb, a conservatory that you never wanted to leave, acre upon acre of different themed vignettes, fountains and manicured lawns.

The Paulownia trees are beautiful when they are in bloom, but they can be invasive in our area. I'm not sure if they would be in Texas. Each growing area is so different.

If you ever come East, make sure to put Longwood Gardens in Kennet Square, PA on your itinerary. You don't want to miss them!

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Shirl..I was going to plant a Paulownia Tree this past Spring but opted to plant A Vitex Tree instead because I had been told they are very invasive here in our area....Jeanne

Sally , You did a wonderful job!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Thank you so kindly, stormyla! Wouldn't be half the article without everyone sharing pictures!

Interesting at Longwood seeing the ancient wisteria and Paulonia trees. Beautiful yes, but part of me says they should tell the whole story as we now know it on invasives. Although, maybe its only us DGers that are going to go home and actually try to grow everything we saw there LOL
You could see patches of Paulonia in the woods on the way back down towards B more

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

They also have that big boulevard of Norway maples down near the fountain, kind of pollarded into cubes.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Sorry we missed that "lovely" sight

Does anyone remember the name of the astible in the conserv. with the hydrageas the purplish/mauve ones????

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

Wow, how very beautiful! I was there when I was 16 years old (and an aspiring florist)... that was 31 years ago, Crikey! It was amazing then, and I remember that we needed more time to see more (which we didn't have)... thanks so much for sharing it with us!

Well we made it to and from Longwood. What a great time. We had tickets for the fireworks to the music of Rachmaninoff over the main fountains so we got to the gardens at 9:00 a.m., rented the scooters and never left until 10:30 p.m. after the fireworks. What a fabulous day, was hot but there was a breeze. So much to take in, I'll be posting my pics soon or at least a link if anyone is interested.

Glad to hear you had a great time. I need to go back.

Haighr, I'd love to see more pictures! This thread is up to 200+ posts so might be a good idea to start a new thread but link it here.

Hope you got the water lilies. :^)

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Oh I got some water lilies and lotus and water platters.
