Spring Blooms - Part 9
Thanks Celeste - I'll have to try it again.
I think Victor is right...maybe a creeping cypress?

such gorgeousness, everybody!
Pixie: those tulips! in the shot of the tulip bed, is the purple and white one called Zurel?
Venu: Thanks for telling that your ZD is ready to pop. That means mine up here is probably still 3 weeks away. It will be its first full year, and I can't wait to see it!
I have some pink forget me nots too, just one clump though.
Everyone has some nice pics here!
Sedum.
Nice! Origami?
your fast onewish, you posted three by the time I got to one! what is the little pink ground cover thing? The flower sort of remind me of Silene but I think they're too small for that.

Hmm - foliage does not look typical for pinks, which have a more grass-like foliage. The flowers resemble geraniums, but not the leaves. ??
they are rock soapwort or Mediterranean Pinks.... not really floating my boat ... i really wish the creeping phlox would bloom longer... but I ordered a bunch of iceplants to put in that area

Okay - thanks. Ice plants need VERY good drainage.
huh, good to know. On one side of the coin, they're not all that interesting of a bloom and my eyes might not see it so well, but then gain a lot of points for being evergreen. Hmmmm....
well i am going to have to add some stuff to the soil to help that along... but that slope is so steep I hope that helps also
Yes, the slope will almost guarantee success. Soil amendments never really help. What I do is mound the soil up and plant things a bit higher.
mine were NOT evergreen.... and the reason I bought it in the first place... turned brown over the winter.... I just cut a bunch back a few weeks ago to get rid of the dead looking stuff from last year... but the green did last pretty long into early winter
Thanks Victor.... that is a great idea
ohhhh.... hmmm.... it just lost a lot of points then. That's too bad. Well, I guess, at elast it came back, but maybe it wouldve been easier if it hadn't :-s
not sure yet.... I will give it this season... if it doesn't thrill me it's gone next year
Daisy, the purple & white tulips are called "Blueberry Ripple".
Nice Colombine Onewish. I like the deciduous Azeleas also. Don't have any yet, but of course, that could change :~)
Great sedum shot Victor. Like the freckles.
Went out to look for a tag on the little conifer and I actually found 2 tags!
Nana Lutea Dwarf Hinoki Cypress. You've got a great eye for the conifers Victor.
Onewish, I like the soapwort pinks! I'm a fan of things that are loose and kind of tumbly though ;)
I bought these tulips for my mom years ago, and they never fail to put on a stunning show. The grape hyacinth around them. along with the bugloss really is attractive. We get tons of compliments on this. My mom calls it her "fairy ring." I have to divide the hostas and get rid of the poplar suckers, but last year I tried to do that before the tulips were done and broke too many off, so that task (along with 100s of others) will wait until they're done blooming.
Thanks Weeze! Very nice, Shirley.
MissFabulous I LUUUUUV that color of purple. Do you know what their called?
does look like fairy dust with the tiny flowers... very nice spot
WOW. It seems like I've been gone a week, all the post and great pics...Giving me the gardening itch but unfortunately it's pouring rain!!!
I saw your Longwood trip thread, Jen. Very nice! Why not put a link here?

Wow Jen, looks like you had a great time. I've only been to Longwood at Christmas time. From your pictures I can see I need to do a spring tour.
I, too, was only there once and wouldn't you know it, there were drought restrictions so most of the water was turned off! I will go back some time. Great shots, Jen.
A spring, summer, fall and winter tour!!! I should of taken a pic but maybe someone else will post it of the huge meadow in front of the forest walk. Everything right now is all green but they said by late summer the enitre field is covered in wildflowers. That is something I'd like to see.
Flowerjen, that was beautiful. I'd love to see it.
