Beautiful piece..nothing like having pieces from our ancestors...
I had an antique bakers cupboard with the flour bin, pie holder etc. loved it but had no room so Greg and Melanie have it at their house..matched their decor...often said if I ever had room, I'd take it back..am sure they'd put up a fight for it though...
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #43 visit with friends...
Ruby, OMG I love your decor..so warm..I must be a spirit of long ago because I feel my best when I'm near such antiques...beautiful pieces...
(still pondering the combination of Amish and Ziploc bags...)
; )
LOL. Hmmm, I wonder what they DO use? Though the modern day Amish seem to use most of the same stuff we do.
thanks for the recipe Betty. I'm gonna try it
Thank you, thank you. I was brought up around a lot of glassware that my parents collected. As a child growing up our weekends were spent at a lot of auction sales on Saturdays and on Sunday afternoons checking out Antique Shops. I deveoped the same love, even though I am not really educated, I just know what I like. My brother and my nieces all ended up with some beautiful things from my parents homes too.
You asked about the first cabinets age. It is at least 60 years old and belonged to John's parents. We just got it back last week from having it refinished because it had smoke damage from a house fire that took place in John's parents home when they moved to a retirement facility a few years back.
Since you seem to be having fun, I am going to post one more fun photo for you Betty. Here is my wild bedroom.
Betty, the plates that you are referring to are not Currier and Ives, as far as I know. Just a set of Bavarian China. I am not sure what the mark says. Will look after while and see.
I need to scoot along and help the help. ha-ha I usually work along with her but have been having too much fun taking pictures today. Have a good rest of the day.
Ruby
So funny, my mom usually clean her house before the help arrives so that she doesn't know that she's not dusted or cleaned..lol
Went for a drive at lunch with Wayne, he had to go purchase fishing equipment at Bass Pro, I looked in their camping/boating section to see if there was something I might need for the boat..nope..nothing...then stopped and picked up lunch for the office, why waste a lunch and lunch right? did see a few nice plastic 'ducks' and thought maybe next time I drop in I'd pick up a few for the pond..
Did forget to tell you this morning what REALLY made my day...saw on one of the concessions a farmers field with mega rhubbarb...time to make some more rhubbarb cement leaves for walkways..lol...only me would get excited over that..
amethystsm - you are too funny.
Liz - I keep forgetting to mention that it is warming up here quite nicely. It's pretty much always above 0 celcius now (32 farenheit). My back yard still has a few inches of water covering most of it. It's higher where I have my veggie garden though so I can prepare the soil. I'll be waiting till June to put out the plants that I've started indoors though. My tomatoes are getting big though. I started them really early because last year they had just started fruiting and then it got cold. I'll be happy to get them in the garden but I don't want to risk a frost. DH will be so happy when the plants go outside.
I biked down to the grocery store with Ella in the bike trailer today. She was asleep when we got back so I left her sleeping in the trailer while I did some yard work so that was really nice. My rhubarb is starting to come up so that's exciting. I'm also babysitting today and when the kids got home for lunch they asked to have a picnic. They had so much fun. It's so nice to have the warmer weather here, especially now that the mud is starting to dry up too.
Missed your post Amy...now you have me thinking, wonder what they do use..lol perhaps you've tasted similar already, is worth the effort though..
Gilly, glad to hear your weather is improving..Ella must love getting out in that fresh air..hard with kids when there is mud/mud/mud all over the yard...you must love having fresh veggies..not easy to come by up there are they? now what kind of grocery store do you shop at..are there major chain stores???not right where you are but within driving distance....know I should know the answer to that, pardon me, old age settling in..lol
Ruby, many different styles..I see a stained glass lamp though on the far right....
goodness you girls motor along!! its hard to keep up!
we are now in autumn and heading for winter, not much rain about unfortunatly.
been slowly plodding along with the patchwork and enjoying that,

looking forward to a quiet weekend,, might go look at some nurserys... hmmm

Srarzz,
I have the exact same Dwarf Iris. Got it from Karen in CA ("dreamcatcher"--something...) several years ago.
For all of you that have deer problems--wasn't there a discussion of the use of "Melorganite" fertilized here? It is great on your lawn--just DO NOT use it on any food crops--it is made in the sanitary plants that process all the junk water from everywhere--including all the toilets we flush. You can get it at HD. It comes in a 40lb bag or such.
Seems deer do not like the scent of it and won't cross it. Not 100% sure on this--but there was a discussion.
Hay! They use coyote urine as a repellent! Why not people's???
Tired tonight! Went shopping for some more flowers with a couple of ladies and then spent at least 4 hours in the garden doing all kinds of stuff--digging, planting, putting up rabbit fencing, etc. Seems 4 hours is my limit nowadays.....
Gita
Amy...
^_^
Pop in anytime...either way is fine.
Thanks for the warm welcomes -- and I made Amish friendship bread a long time ago -- without the help of ziploc bags. We put the mix in plastic containers -- and we stirred with wooded spoons instead of mish-mashing. You have to watch the cover on the plastic container, though, because it can literally "blow off" the lid with fermentation.
You'll be pleased to know that my brother has been making a series of successful batches by having his starter in a glass bowl, covered with plastic wrap.
By the way -- he more often bakes up his assortment of breads as his friends got burned out on starters, so he bakes a lot at one time. He's had one loaf wrapped up for weeks without spoiling -- and finally cut into it. It was fine.
T
Theresa
I went back and read the welcomes that I'd missed on #42 -- thank you so much everyone. And Bev "gee, gosh" -- you make a girl blush.
I am heading out of town for a week or two and will let you know when I get back. I doubt I will be able to catch up on your prolific communication for a while -- but I will do my best. Bear with me while I make my way around. It's also my busy gardening time, but I promised Mom a trip to visit my aunt, who she's not seen in something like 7 years -- or something like that. Anyway -- we are taking her out and will be going pretty close to Bev in the process. I hope to connect on the way back through, but it will depend on how Mom is making out with the travel. We are taking our old motorhome -- so wish us well.
I've made some of my best friends by participating in prayer chains along the way -- so it is a pleasure to have found you, here, that same way.
I'll catch back up with you when I can. Thanks again for the warm welcome. Attached is a picture of my columbine blooming against my house. I take lots of photos -- this is just a practice to see if it posts ok. (Hubby says I am obsessed with the camera.)
T
Theresa
First and foremost, welcome Theresa.
Hello to all. Reading that most of you had a fabulous Mother's Day.
Judy, you should have said you can't stand upswept hairdos, and I bet that's the look she'll try to do!! I did exactly the opposite of what my mama wanted when I was a teenager!
Well Dawn, what's junk to others will fetch millions of dollars when it comes to late metal artist David Smith's works!!! I drool over his creations! You may laugh, but Kel and I will go to junk yards just to look for possibilities!! Too bad our 'creative' juices do not flow instantaneously :(
Shar..my not so secret swap...I am still working on the 'cadeaux'. Perhaps June's exchange will be better. Just call me the imperfect perfectionist when you see the 'creation'.
Oh and I agree Gilli, Amy's too funny, not irreverant, just aptly humorous!!
Ruby, I love your decor. Once upon a time, I had a whole set of Alana by Waterford, until I used them as missiles ....Only one that survived was the decanter, it was storing a 21 year old whiskey then!!!! What an expensive hangover the following day. Don't worry ladies, don't drink no more since He got hold of me!
Hiya Liz!! Are you ready for your swap buddy's name. Sorry Betty, I can't give any preferential treatment even though I love you to pieces!!!
Oh by the way Betty, I've never done any glass work before, but after following your thread on those dragonflies, I had asked Kel whether we could try that.
Let me end this soon before it goes 'poof' on me.
Hurried here and hurried there...trying to squeeze in 72 hours in 8!! Sure most of you have heard that before. This year is a very important gardening year for me, cause we are "vining"... things that curve around a post via tendrils? I have clematis, passion flowers, moonflowers, lab-lab, morning glories and blue sky vines to stage. Well, Kel will be using fence posts and we found some thrown away metal grate shelvings, about 4' X 4' and that will help make our trellises.
By the way Gita, I ran out of my usual Osmocote fertilizer yesterday, but had loads of tomato fertilizer left. So, experimenting with that on my other flowering plants. I had used on the brugs before, and they love it and so this time, trying on the annuals.
Found this on the net, and it hit me that this is the perfect place to post it.
"A friend is one who strengthens you with prayers, blesses you with love and encourages you with hope."
Sleep well my friends.
Blessings Galore,
Jaye

Morning all..
Hi Jaye,
That reminds of my favorite Garden quote.....
"A garden is a friend you can visit anytime"
Betty you asked about what I am doing on the long weekend..

carol, nice iris i like small ones, oh yes i yesterday was quite the comotion ..
our informant called us to warn us she was fired from her other job, she is such a brilliant theif!! she borrowed 250.00 from the till, then told her mother to take it out of her savings she needed to put it back,
her mother flat out said no, and maby this will be the straw that breaks the camels back to make her check into a good rehab place, but i just had enough yesterday after that call, so i called our district mgr and told her that i fear we will come up short tonight and i just want to let her know she was faxing a report to loss prevention.

Liz, We are not going to put another awning. Scotty can't do any work and I just can't lift that big 18 foot thing and get it hooked on the sides anymore. I hate to admit that but we are al getting older HUH? We are going to put a carport up and will not have to worry about it.
The bad storms missed us again last night thank God. It still is raining and goin to every other day. Our farmers can't get the crops in. Please all pray fpr rain here to stop long enough for that.
Hi ti all this morning and may you all have a good day. Hugs BEV
*waving*
off to bed...
Good morning everyone. More storms in this area last night. A tornado touched down in a small community about 10 miles south of us, but thankfully no one was hurt. They seems to be so much more common these days than they used to be. Weather patterns are changing I guess.
Theresa, when you get the chance I would love to see some of your brothers bread recipes. I collect recipes and try out new bread every chance I get.
Hope you all have a wonderful day. Or evening in Lauras casae! :-)
Well I have got to tell you I had one heck of an emotional day and night on
May 13th. That was probably the worst…It’s over and tadah, I am still here.
On a happier note: Best
Yesterday was Steve’s birthday, He wanted to take me downtown Chicago. He has been working in the John Hancock Building. The project is almost finished and he will then loose access to the residential space. He wanted to show me his work, as well as, fulfill a life long dream of mine. That is to see our great city of Chicago from above. We did not make it in time to see the sunset, but the night view is just as breathtaking as the day view.
LOL, “I” took him to dinner afterward to Mike Ditka’s where we ran in between the rain. Enjoyed a beautiful meal. We did not get home until almost midnight. What a grand birthday.
What did I learn: …Runniing away is not a good answer, making things right is a good way to go.
So I hope you have a good day...
Bev...Man, I sure hope the rain stops. Stay safe. OH that goes for all with bad weather.
Ruby, I've so enjoyed all your pieces. The cabinet is splended.
Carol, So glad you are making great progress on Secret Garden.
Betty, Been thinking about you, Hoping for good doc results.
Liz, I am bummed to say i won't be able to joint that swap, I am right in the middle of orgnizing cleaning etc.etc. for big Graduation bash, prom in 2 days and 2 grad ceremonies. Oh...gosh list just keeps growing right now, have a bridal party to attend, my sis might be coming and I barley can keep everything straight. But i am watching you, Betty and jaye have a ball with it...Smiling big for you!
Not feeling the greatest today so will bid you all a good day.
Enclosed is me sitting close to the top of the world! 54th floor, some 500 feet about ground. (I hope)
Hello all, just got in, pouring rain..yuk, had hoped to play in the garden till the girls all came..
You know you are old when the specialist looks as though he's 15...but what a nice man, explained everything he was saying very carefully and no rushing...
He did NOT like the look of my tummy, having test done either late tomorrow or Fri. and has booked a colonoscopy (?) for the first week of June, which really is quite soon..
Went on to say it could be many things, of course the big 'C' comes up in conversation..then explains that the procedure for the test is an everyday thing, which it is, so that doesn't worry me...just don't know why they have to tell you that on occasion it could put a tear in your bowel and they'd have to operate..just like the ads for medicine, gives you all the yukky details of what could happen..anyway I like him which is half the battle..says perhaps it could be a twisted bowel and also name numerous could be's and again the 'c' comes up...so that's step 1...
Oh Betty, I am so glad you went to docs. I am really glad he took time explaining and making a test right away. I will now, Just pray that whatever it is can be fixed up and in a big hurry! Hugging you tight my friend.
Yippy, I came home to a Secret Pal Parcel today! Batteries ran out so, got them charging.
Thank You very much Secret Pal! I am going to have the best mini garden around. I receive Mini plants!! Tomatoe, Dasiey each in the cutest lil pots yellow and red and a Tiny hanging basket of petunias!! Thank You! I will also enjoy the herbal washes and soaps!! Now you will never guess so I will tell you how this came. The package has my return address and postmarked from San Mato, CA. Told Liz and all she did was laugh and say she has been recruited to mail...Very funny and brilliantlky sneaky...hahaha, card says to not guess. I am stumped!! But oh so happy.
THANK YOU SECRET PAL. Smiles...which you also have perfect timing Made my day.
Judy so enjoyed your pictures of Chicago as DH lived there the first 12 years of his life. They moved up here during the riots to a little farm . You are talking 4 boys and 2 girls. Chicago was probably better off with those boys gone. LOL the stories he has told me! Can hardly wait to see what you got Judy!
Betty so glad you went today. I know you don't have any answers but more questions. But it sounds like you have a good DR. Now we can start praying harder. Sending you hugs!
Liz my sinus have cleared. When the temps raised I felt better. But have been running a low grade sore throat and it isn't all the time.. I'm thinking maybe allergies. Hope yours are doing better. That girl is unbelievable. But I guess the drugs would have something to do with it.
Cat I hope any bad weather does not hit you or even close.
Bev I understand the age thing. My mom refuses to believe us kids are getting older and should still be able to do anything. Sorry about the awning. Was there more damage? will hope your rains go to whoever needs them!
Starzz I love the quote and I also love the small iris. I have some of them and this will be thier 3rd year. Can hardly wait for them to bloom.
Jaye I will enjoy seeing pictures of your vines. I am taking my vining spots(I had morning glories in those spots) and planting pole beans and cucumbers this year. I wanted to expand on my vegies and that was an easy way to do it.
Yes today was truck day. But they unloaded last night. So all I had to do today was stock shelves. The boss was back after being gone 5 days on funeral leave. She was feeling better and very talkative. So I didn't work real hard but was still exhausted when I got home and took a nap. There went my day. But I did get the plants outside and back in the GH.
Hello to all I have missed. Have some other threads to read and reply to.
Hope you had the day you needed!
Hi everyone. Popping in for a quick post. Gotta watch Deadliest Catch & the Alaska Experiment before DH has a caniption!
Been busy AND sick. Busy till Sunday morning; sick w/ a cold after that. Today is the first day I'm feeling better. Even left class last night casue I felt horrible. You know I'm sick if I don't want to walk around the botanical gardens!
Skimmed the thread a little. - Anyway - welcome Theresa!
Shar - what nice words from you on your DG friends! Thank you so much!!!
Laura - remember your good thoughts and that we are ALL here for you!!
BTW - a happy belated Mother's Day to all!
Here's what DH bought me for MD......He's about 60 lbs!!!
I'll chat back later!
Hugs to all!
Jeannine

What a cute gnome!!! I love him.
Thanks to all who commented on my china cabinets. I was having a lot of fun that afternoon taking the pics. Hopefully I will have some beautiful pictures to show you all next week when I return from my tour of Longwood Gardens.
So....that being said......I need to scoot along and start packing for three days away. I also have household chores to do before I leave too. A 9 AM dentist appointment is scheduled this morning too, but am seriously thinking of cancelling it.
Here is wishing each of you a great weekend. Love all you ladies. See you on Saturday Gita.
Ruby
morning all,
betty, i hope they can find a simple reason for your stomach upset when are they going to have you do this test in june? horrible heat wave it was 82 at 8.00 last night yuck expecting tripple digit's today well im almost done with one r/w/b gift now to work on the second.
jeannine oh how cool is that i love it! hope you feel better
vicki, when its cooler out im ok..
warm till i get use to it, omg just misserable with pressure and some nose bleeds makes me crazy! glad your all better guess it is that magic spring thing again lol
oh i had a long talk with the theif wheather or not she listens well she told us she totaled her car, insurace has a cancelation notice her fiance is getting out of jail at midnight so she had to go to a bad section of town and have her last fling, omg and to think she dosnt get why her two year old daughter has a attitude, i told her betty ford center would be the best thing she could do for herself and her daughter.
judy, wow nice view from the building sounds like your all busy this next week
good try sherlock... lol no its not me lol im shipping for someone!
everyone have a great day
ruby, crossed with you, have a wonderful time
Ruby have a great time this weekend! Looking forward to the pictures and your stories.
Liz they just don't get it. I had a younger friend that was similiar. It was everybody else's fault. She drove away all her good friends. When she starting attacking my sister and neice that was the last straw for me. Which was too bad as she really had alot going for her and she sabotaged all of it. Hope the manager turns on the AC today.
Jeannine what a cute gnome.
Have to be to work at 10 this morning. Such an odd shift. Kind of ruins the whole day. But I can take the plants out when I get home.
You all have the day you need.
wheres betty???
she is very quiet....
sent my SP gift off today.. i wonder who it is going to? takes about 10 days so lets wait and see.
the patchwork is coming along fine....
was wondering.... thinking... maybe.. if its not too much trouble... if each of you would send a piece of fabric? I would like to do a friendship quilt... one from each of you say in pastel pinks.. florals and such... and i could make it... and it would have a piece of each of us in it.. and then i could embroider your names on it.. i think it would be so cool. if you dont thinks its a good idea, please say so... about 1/2 a yard each would do it i think... just a thought...
shar, do u think your could paint my puppy? i only have this pic as my disc thingy isnt working... what do you think?
hello to all
betty where are you?
Hi Laura, I might be able to paint your puppy. What kind is he? I have forgotten.
I also think the friendship quilt would be a lot of fun. I have made them before. And I have lots of fabric if you need more.
Betty, we love you, and you are ever in our prayers. I am sure you have an excellent doctor so I hope you can move right along and get everything taken care of quickly.
I have to be at the gallery today, then a meeting with a client about a painting this afternoon. I will check back in tonight.
You all have a great day...Ruby and Gita have a nice trip, and I love the SP gifts, also GG;s gnome and Ruby's furniture....Hi to all.
Later,
shar
Here Laura...was just getting organized..my office calendar looks like a Dr's office appt. book...lordy, everyone is ill..Mom and Jim (SF), Suzanne, Paul and then Wayne in and out for appts...me as well..LeeAnn - might be cheaper to hire our own doctor..lol..
Now doesn't that sound wonderful, while in Midland tmr. morning for tests I'll go to Fabricland and pick up a 1/2 meter..
Vicki, you are on the run again..busy/busy as always..guess your weather as is ours still has close to freezing temps..left a few plants out last night and maybe I did them in...aren't you anxious to get them in the ground! OMG Liz, you told her that???? what did she say or did she laugh it off???? As for mom's, yep no matter how old their children are they are still our babies..grandma who was 99 and had a child 80 was still telling her what was best for her...lol..
Liz are you in (2) red/white/blue 'swaps' or is it your trash to treasure you'll now be doing? I'm off tmr. - hospital in the am and then I'm hoping between tonight and tomorrow to have all the grass cut - 3 hrs work minimum and then if the rain does indeed come all weekend I can play inside..truly want to get 5 closets sorted, clothing bags to SallyAnn's and then completing all my swap project..if I don't break the 'trash to treasure' one, it will be gorgeous..so tempted to keep it..
Ruby, do enjoy your few days away..hope the weather co-operates..give Gita a hug and get one back from her to you from me..now there's a sentence..lol - looking forward to photo's..especially those from your 'meet'...Ruby, missed your post about Niagara Falls, and yes Herbie and Debbie will be there for a few days and I'll be driving to meet them as well..you should make plans to either fly (I could pick you both up) or drive and spend some time with me..could show you Toronto, Georgian Bay area and then head out to Niagara Falls...that would be marvellous..no B&B, just friends visiting friends...now you have my adrenaline going..Gillian/Keith and family will be visiting as well this summer..she d-mailed and I can't wait to see how much they've grown from last year...so my dear..I'd be thrilled...
Jeannine, haven't heard of those 2 shows..sounds interesting..Sorry you are not feeling well..you must be sick/sick you didn't say how 'mom' like the painting of her 'kitty'??? Bet she loved it though..love your gnome..tell DH he'll have to be cook, bottle washer and taxi driver for the family over the weekend to give you time to mend....how's Murphy..behaving I hope...
Got home last night and had to use the rug cleaner on the basement rug..it's only a 6' x 8' under the coffee table, but I'm noticing that Sailor is having problem with her bladder..only 2 scatter rugs in the house and she's found them..she's getting old so I'll have to dispose of it this weekend, purchase another, no big deal..can't put her down just because she's messing..right???? my mom would be proud of me for saying that ..lol..
Talking of mom's..she just called me here at work to find out how I made out yesterday? She and Jim (SF) are still not well, she's almost her own self but Jim is in bed...they are up at the cottage and so she said she didn't want to disturb him last night so went to Rama..took $300. with her and came back with $1,435.00 never saw a woman so lucky..that should be a full time job for her..she won last Friday, Sat. and Monday...told her she was adding to my inheritance...lol
Judy, the mini plants are they real or decorative..isn't that amazing..charge up those batteries girl...if I ever get my GPS with your address keyed in, lol, I'll be passing through Chicago right??? was in Chicago when I used to fly a lot for American Express, had 8 hours to kill, they told me to take a helicopter from airport to downtown (at that time) and go see the sights, but I read a book instead...was called Exavier Hollander (?) "The Happy Hooker" not sure why, think it was the rage, so much ado about it..lol..don't know if I told you the story about my flight home that day..it was so funny...anyway I'm rambling, let me know how far you are from Chicago???
Awe Bev, look at your awning..how sad...so much damage can be done with these storms..it's the anniversary in Barrie today of when the tornado hit - think it was 1989..some lost their lives...guess we're lucky that it's minor damage right? Are you up at the trailer this weekend? it's not a long weekend for you is it..for us it's Queen Victoria's birthday and the day was set aside for celebration..we do fireworks, parades etc.
Carol, tonight is the night I'll be picking up my 'blue hosta' from that lady, will inquire as to the name..hopefully she'll have a few other beauties I can come home with..lol..took some pictures of some of my hosta's thing morning..will try to find out their names and have them tagged...it's bright here today but quite windy..only 40 degrees this morning on my way in...
Did a walkaround this morning, actually took my camera and took a few pictures..only early spring flowers are blooming the rest is wonderful shades of green just peeping out to say 'hello'...they'll be in their splendour in June/July/August....
Theresa I almost did it, almost went to open one of your lovely photo's..would have lost my post..hope you are enjoying your time away!!!
Jaye, brought my honorary USA citizen 'flag' to work with me so I can enjoy...you are too kind...did you convince Kel to do the 'dragonfly'?
I still have my butterflies/dragonflies to put out in the yard..must to so this weekend...
I'm sooo waiting for my topsoil..have beds to prepare, seedling to plant in it and all the seeds I've received from swaps and kind USA friends..know it's still early but want to see it done...
On my way home tomorrow I'll pick up the glass for my 2 stepping stone walkway pieces..Shar sent me a flower she likes, I had yellow glass but no red/marroon..and then a dragonfly for Bev..it's already cut out..and I've a bag of cement just waiting to be turned into a work of 'art' so that's on my Fri. agenda as well as a trip to the 're-use' it store..might be something there I can get for a 'swap' ...better get pencil/pad in hand and organize myself or I'll be coming home without half of my project materials...
I've got everything I needed to do accomplished and so I'll play now..haven't played almost since Monday..I took photo's this morning and e-mailed them here to the office...they are not the beautiful color flowers you all post, but it's my garden just waking up..
Last night the girls were painting and Missy was so interested in Joan's painting that she sat there for about 3 hrs. going from time to time to paw the brush..guess she's teaching as well...
