Seeing my name is pauze (posie) shouldn't I have some...
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Pt.42 Visit with Friends
Ruby that little Emily is a doll!! Well guess I will not work outside again today. It is raining still. The farmers will never get the corn in the ground or me my seeds. I think something is telling me to sit down and do my bills before the people come to get me!! Thought I would send another pretty picture. Hope the rest of you can get in your garden. Hugs BEV
Liz Ty is fine. Wants out most of the time. But waits patiently for me. Listen to this! The Big Wig never came never called and they went to Minnesota! They had told the manager to keep the one Asst. manager there. Now she is over hours. She (manager) heard from an Aunt that her sister died. None of her nieces called to tell her. This would be her own sister. Yes they were on the outs but there is lots to the story. But they had talked in the last couple of years. Talk about a stressful day. We were talking and she started to have insulan(sp) reaction. I said something to her so she checked her bloodsugar. 3 points above when she went to the hospital the last time. Got her a candy bar. She sat a minute and called her DH. He brought her an orange. Lord that is scary. She doesn't realize it is happening.
Ruby what an adorable DGD. You can post pictures of her anytime! Those little ones sure can make us happy.
Judy have been so enjoying you with your granchild. LOL
Not good with names and am feeling like a nap. Hope I find time to get back on.
Betty i didn't get roses but bought other flowers to plant.
OH MY Gosh! I just made the longest post, and poof. Gone!!
See Liz, thats how my whole week has been!
Ok So Quickly..
Ruby, Emily is simply Precious!
All your flowers are really beautiful, was glad to see you got them divied up to share with your massage person.
Shar, not to worry...The only shovel i'll be using is on one of mine to send to you.
But your Iris is devine!
Gita, I Love the Helitrope. Awsom color too. Well, sounds like you have a real busy Weekend. You enjoy the day with DD and your BBQ.
Bev, Well at least the garden are getting watered. I hope the storms haven't been too bad. Your Garden is very inviting. Love your birdfeeder.
Gilli, good move on the gate. Thank you for the website listing on the slings, Pretty Cool!
Hi Laura, Glad to see you having some great days and having fun at the crafts class.
Yep, you've lots of girlfriends here in Daves Garden. So glad to see you too. Hey Happy Mother's Day.LOL yours is first!
Hello Jaye...What you up to besides joining every swap there is. LOL Between you, Betty and Liz. i have joined another one, see you all got me addicted!
Oh, Carole...So happy you spend lots of time with your grand daughters.
Hiya Ves...How goes all the gardening up in the Northwoods? Any sign of Big Ben yet?
Well My gardens have been destroyed by the Deer. All the pretty host chewed down to the ground. We decided we will pull both Arbor Vitaes. (But I think I am going to give grafting a try) The only thing left is the very tips. My tulips gone! well Only one survived, don't know how they missed it guess they enjoyed the hosta better. Also, i am saddened to tell you, My baby rose burnt up! They ate all the lilac including the flowers...didn't even get a picture.
My week, was very long and I am very sore from a near fall. I think I dicovered a new dance, called flailing arms, lol ...
The Best is Julia's school had there Grammy award presentation and Concert on Wednesday and it was absolutley lovely. I am hoping they made a CD.
Enclosing a photo of Her and her patner. They competed in many duets and have been playing together since 4th grade. Just amazing, got to find the first photo of them. i remeber it like I just took it. They were nervous it was their irst Concert. This photo they are confident and just incredibly happy, LOL, I guess I would be too if i were a participant in the school receiving such an award!
Oh...Thanks for asking about Alissa! She is doing Very well. Although still has many issues with the folks. She attends Oakton Community college. She is studying to do hospital work. Not sure which but doing very well. Her parents "allow" her home only 1once a month. She is welcome anytime at our house so very often spends the weekends with us. She and Julia have been having a ton of fun Prom Shopping. The main thing is she has become Self sufficient, and I'm pleased to say she is very happy! Alissa will be attending Julia's Off-Campus Graduation with us.
Also an Update on the Grandchild. Well today was his last day with us. They turn in the eggs today. So of course we check it condition this morning. Not a scratch to be found. And well he didn't win the cutest baby award but he was the best made. Breenie couldn't decided if she wanted to keep it or not. So I told her she should. She wanted to know what we were going to do with him...oh golly,I told her we were going to eat him! What can i say, lol...He is 7lbs 6 oz of Flour, that is alot of fry bread...we could make.
And the way my week is going I am going to Wish You all
A wonderful Mothers Day!!
Enjoy the weekend and I'll be checking in.
I have many dif iris and even some reblooming but no names. I will post pics when they bloom. Happy Mother's Day to all. BEV
And something that I am trying that might not work this year, but maybe next...
The pinkish rose is Sophy's Rose, behind it is a deep red rose that my neighbor gave to me because it would not bloom for her, but it is now in bloom...also there is a wisteria which is taller and is to the top of the crosspiece. I am getting them to intertwine, I hope, all held together by the wisteria, maybe..I hope. So far everybody seems happy, and no complaints from either of them...
I don't know for sure the names of any of those that were just given to me either, Bev. The black iris from yesterday is called Black Magic, the blue I know because I bought it myself, the yellow/white might be Sunrise Serenade. And the roses are new to me this year, so except for the dark red one which I suspect is a Mr. Lincoln, i know most of the roses because I kept the tags on them.
Whatever their names, I am really excited about all of it this year. It is the first year, the first early spring I have ever had free so that I could tend to the yard. I was always teaching, and last year, thought I was not teaching, Bob died suddenly in April, so I didn't do anything to the gardens at all.
Anyway, it is a whole new year of blooms for all of us.
Judy, hunka/hunka/hunka..wow DH is a sweetie, give him a hug and kiss for me..and Julia, OMG what a heart breaker, she's GORGEOUS... tell her so for me..
Love photo's of your gardens..spectacular..can only hope mine will be even 1/2 as gorgeous as yours..
Well it was quite a day..spent the morning finishing off a clock that Carol (friend who passed away) had started and think I'll hand it in my little tea room so she can watch over me..
So now I'm on my way home and make my list to do..get to town and go visit my Aunt Exilda (last of her sibblings - sister to me as I was raised by my grandmother) brought in bouquets of flowers and 2 doz roses, give her a dozen, take the other and pkg. of flowers and make up mini flower packets and off we go to the graveyard..flowers for Dad, Aunt Irene, Aunt Alda, Aunt Natalie, Aunt Flora and Grandma
wow lots of grave visiting with others as well, beautiful aft. and I'm always at peace in a graveyard...
Here's Aunt Exilda...she 88 but you'd never know it..she was ever so please that I dropped in .. really other than her family I'm the only one left..
For all of you--"HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!"
Got this today in an e-mail--doctored it up/corrected it/got rid of all kinds of "forwarding" jibberish --and thought you would like to read this on Mother's day.
Gita
Why Women Cry
A little boy asked his mother, “Why are you crying?”
“Because I'm a woman,” she told him.
“I don't understand, he said”. His Mom just hugged him
and said, “And you never will”.
Later the little boy asked his father, “Why does mother seem
to cry for no reason?”
“All women cry for no reason” was all his dad could say.
The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering
why women cry.
Finally he put in a call to God. When God got on the phone,
he asked, “God, why do women cry so easily?” God said:
“When I made the woman she had to be special”.
“I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight
of the World, yet gentle enough to give comfort”.
“I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and
the rejection that many times comes from her children”.
“I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when
everyone else gives up, and take care of her family
through sickness and fatigue without complaining”.
“I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under
any and all circumstances, even when her child has
hurt her very badly”.
''I gave her strength to carry her husband through his
faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart”.
“I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never
hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and
her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly.”
“And, finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively
to use whenever it is needed. That tear holds more then men could understand”.
“If a man was to shed her tear it would look enormous. For a woman's tear is full of unconditional love, power, sacrifice, beauty, pain, and compassion.” All ten fold of what a Man is able to feel.”
“And that is, my son, why I made her close to being Supernatural.
She's my gift to the world--she's an Angel on Earth.”
“Love her and praise her for there will be no other here on Earth that
will Love you like I do--than your Mother.'
“You see, my son”, said God, “The beauty of a woman is not in
the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart--the place where love resides.”
So now I take her home and decide I'd better make another stop..my Aunt Irene that died last year who I was closest to in age and grew up together had a hubby who is the dearest of all my Uncles, so dropped in..his car was there, but door was locked so no visit, but did manage to get a photo of one of his flower beds that goes the entire length of his property..says its better than a fence..and look at the magnolia tree..and here I didn't think I could have one..guess who will be purchasing one over the weekend...lol
Oh Gita that is wonderful, will keep it and I'll be sure to have my boys read it tomorrow...wow that's powerful but true..
Thanks ever so much for sharing...
Now I'm finally on my way home and it's 5:30 - decide to go to Norms Gallery Nursery..omg flowers and arrangments are beautiful, but hanging baskets no more spectacular than what I bought at the wholesalers this morning were $59.99 OMG that a lot of money...but I did purchase 2 white astilbe's and a lily and a tray of 12 pots with misc. flowers to make a planter..love the potatoe vine, both light green and maroon, so tomorrow I'll make one up to hang in the birdfeeder stand so now I'm almost home and remember, my mother's mother - her grave is in Midland so back I go to put flowers on her grave..I could not believe it, there was so much damage, it's a beautiful old cemetary near the lake and it was vandalized either that or much damage because of the winter, tombstones were facing the wrong way, stone tops broken (cross) off ancient stones, pushed down stones etc. - brought tears to my eyes...my grandmother whom I'm named after, Bessie Marie was born in 1913 and died in 1947 - couple of months before I was born..so 34 - 2 kids married and 2 at home..that was so very young...
Then I also remembered that I had to go to Home Depot to take photo of a waterfeature that my mom said she liked..going to e-mail her the picture and if she likes it, I'll pick it up in the early morning tomorrow as it's the last one left..made of resin to look like cement...
Sounds as though many of you enjoyed your day, rain or not, either in the garden or shopping in the garden.. that reminds me..at Norms they had a beautiful resin set...lordy I want it...hope the boys forget about my shrubs and decide to take me out to choose something..lol know where I'll be and what I'll be picking up...
Sooo guess who is tuckered out..think I'll take my bath and put my feet up..lol..
morning all
betty i am worried about you! dont make me come over there!
had a busy day running around yesterday and then craft group last night.. starting to put my quilt together a bit so will have a pic of something soon.
mothers day tomorrow..... that will be nice.
Gosh you guys brighten my day.. all of u! the flowers shar are wonderful.. how are you these days and are you still doing your wonderful paintings? have u ever done one of animals? i think i told you of a pic of my little doggy thats gone now that a lady did, it was amazing... hoped to get one for my 50th in july but i lost her card. must go look again.... try and find her. if not... it was notmeant to be.
gosh it was lovely to reminise from past threads... was jan tangie girl? do we know why she dissapeared?
anyway. busy day ahead.... hugs to you all.. the old fingers are painful these days so its hard to type.. wish we had voice chat in DG!!
BIG HUGSSSS
Hi Laura
good to hear from you.
Yes, I do paint animals from time to time. If you don't find your artist person, then send a photo and tell me what size.
Jan is Tangiegirl. I miss her too, but Betty has tried to find her and I have sent several D mails, and she doesn't answer. If you remember she had had a bad fall the last time we heard. It worries me, but I guess we just have to trust that she is OK. she had that great house in Pennsylvania, I think.
I am excited to see your quilt Laura. No wonder your fingers are sore.
Ruby, Gita, Bev...love all your flowers, and Happy Mother's Day right back to you, Gita. A nice litle story.
Liz, Ves, Judy....hi to you.
Starzz, doccat, where are you? OK there are a bunch that I didn't mention yet, but the night is young. And where is my secret not so secret Pal tonight.
Did I tell you all that there are 3 of us who collect elephants in our little group? Yep, I probably have about 100 or so, some small some large. Starzz collects too, and without looking it up, I think Ruby...I might be wrong there, but think so.
Anyway... I might be back in a little while. I think it is time for me to make up for this quiet kick I have been on.
Just came down to send an e-mail to mom..she just called and won another $1,000. at Rama..if I won like she did I think I'd live at Rama...lol..anyway Jim still not well so they are having a quiet weekend...
Laura nice to hear you be your old self...I do hope you'll get your special gift for your 50's..do you have 'liquid skin'??? know you are going to ask me what that is right? well it's a liquid you put on your fingers and it acts as a protection..really helps when doing hand sewing...usually found in material shops..
I just love looking at everyones gardens as well, one day it will be my turn to show some pretties...lol...
Shar I'll probably be up part of the night so will drop in from time to time and see what YOU my dear girl are up to..sounds as though you are restless...
Best of today...having a visit with family, even though they were all 'dead'...their memories were alive..had good thoughts...
Worse of today..that most of my family is 'dead'
What did I learn..not to purchase long stem roses..thorns/thorns/thorns..sore fingers tonight..
Hey Jud, missed ya sister. Haven't seen ya for a while posting much but then I have not been either.
Does anyone know what a Greselinia is? or Coprosoma or Loprosoma? (plants my friend Rebeccanne sent me from Oregon that she thought would do good here.)
Morning all! Shar..I'm here now!!
Betty, please do take care of yourself. Yes, I agree you need to write a diary of the foods and amount you eat. We want you to outlive all of us!
I am also waaaaaaaaaaay overweight. Had adverse reactions to my insulin, Lyrica, cholestrol and blood pressure meds. Fluid retention is a bummer. No matter how active I've been lately, it seems I lost the battle with weight gain. No wonder more teenagers are avoiding their insulin regimen, just to avoid gaining weight.
Now Shar, don't you be quick to pin me down...I am following doctors' orders.
Emily is so adorable. Little ones grow up too quick.
Lookee here, Seedtosser...there's a bonus to joining swaps that you'd soon find. You get to meet really nice people...like Betty :P
Today, from one swap, I get to know this incredible warm young woman who certainly manifests herself, the same way she comes across the screen.
Gita, thanks for reminding me it's time to give a dose of Epsom Salts to my babies! My evergreens especially love it.
Love the poem Gita. Never had the title "Mother". Just Godma and Aunt to a whole slew of nieces and nephews and neighbours' kids.
Liquid skin is a good tip there Betty. When I do quilt, it's machine piecing and quilting all the way. My eyes are not what they used to be!
Ok..signing off before it goes poof on me again!
Blessings Galore.
Jaye
Jaye, for goodness sakes what are you doing up at this hour????
Notice I am not saying a word about your medical situation.
Have you been working on my unsecret pal gift????
I almost have yours done. Ha.
Now go to bed and get some sleep, girl!
I'm praying over yours, Shar!!! Lol!!!
You too get some sleep, for daylight will soon be here!
Yepper,
...Goodnight
Hi to all - Judy, I am so sorry to hear about the deer getting so many of your plants. You might want to try planting some castor bean around the areas that you would like to prevent deer from intruding. We have been told that it is an old remedy for deterring deer. John is going to plant them around where the deer did the most damage here last year in one of his day lily beds. Did I send you the castor beans? If not, I would be glad to share some with you. Just let me know.
Yep, Sharron it is wondeful to see you being so talkative. All of the pretty bloom pictures that you have sent are just lovely. You are growing some really nice things.
Betty, along with all of the things that I am sure you want to accpmplish this weekend, make time for some rest breaks too. To everyone else, please enjoy your weekend.
Ruby
Good morning, thought I wouldn't get to sleep but obviously I had a good nights rest...was just outside walking amongst my pretty, a few little winter plants in bloom, excited me to no end...lol...ground is quite damp and it's on the cool side however they are calling for high 50's to low 60's today and I'll take it with a smile..
So because the housework is done, turkey almost ready to be put into the oven, runner floormat primed and on the table ready to paint (will go outside my front door..trying to figure out if I want to match it to the back deck piece, some clay pots I'd like to paint in vibrant colors and do leaf stencilling in lighter tones of each and then of course my 'red/white/blue' project tha I can work on here and there...must slow down on that one or it will drive me crazy just sitting there...
AND the most important part of today, go to the post office this morning, think their might be some swaps waiting for me....wouldn't that be fun..
I see Shar you are burning the midnight oil along with Jaye..most likely you are overworking yourself in efforts to keep your mind and body busy, but don't overdo..do the boys come this weekend..you'll see changes in Ethan I'll bet..hope you didn't get all the yard duty done because he does love helping Grandma do her gardening...
Ruby, how true about the young ones taking insulin meds..this phobia about being so miniature in size isn't for the best and will catch up with them..my 2 nieces I work with are so thin that if they are sideways you'd miss them, one hardly eats, worry that she has an eating disorder... Godmothers & Aunties and nice neighbors to all should be appreciated on Mothers' Day as well, they offer so much for the growth of children..so Happy Mothers Day to you...
As for the castor beans..I did put them to germinate and all of them did, today I'd love to put them in their pots..my question is...would I put 2 or 3 in a large container? or just 1 in each as they do grow so large? Ooops must do the epson salt thing as well, almost forgot...
Waiting for mom's call this morning to see if she like the water feature, another thing to add to my todo list if she does, a trip into Midland to buy it..
Well it's off to be productive, as always I'll share how my day is going or NOT..lol...but am ambitious this weekend and that's a good thing!!!
Today I'll also take out the 'little ones' I've grown these past months and start adjusting them to temps..last week I opened the bedroom window and would let the cold filter through so that might of helped..think if I 'don't' get them planted soon I'll loose them...
Enjoy today, enjoy the beauty that surrounds you as there is much...
Morning all,
What a busy happy lot we are. I am still waking up ..feel a little achey from lugging aruond bags of mulch yesterday. I got a couple of plants moved. I refurbishd a little birdhouse. I glued twigs to the roof and around the edges..then put it back in the garden. There was a nest from last year inside.. The wrens came back yesterday..and I wonder if they were looking for it..LOL I did notice one wren looking in the gourd birdhouses that they always nest in. Funny I had just mentioned to my neighbour when we were having coffee that I hadn't seen any wrens yet..and then later we were wandering in the garden and there they were. I noticed a tiny shoot coming form a rose I thought I ahd lost over the winter..I was pleased because that rose has been here for about 18 years.
Last evening my gradndaughter and I made chocolate chip cookies together..from scratch! They were good..and I brought a couple home with me.
Gita..I love heliotrope too..and have had a once Pentas before. Thanks for reminding me of that one..I have heliotrope on my list already. I had put a handful epsom salts around each of my roses a couple of weeks ago.
Sharon..I noticed two of my smaller irises showing colour and thought of you. Your Black Magic puts me iin mind of my big german Iris Cranberry Ice.
Photo from last year...

hi doc, hi bev hope all is well with you
gilli, what are you up to? is it warming up yet?lol
betty, now what are you doing with the slate? thats a nice water feature, wow your mom won again oh she is very lucky, glad you had a nice day with your aunt, thats terrible to vandalize, is their no grounds keeper to look after it? very sad, well it looks like your going to be a very busy bee.
hi carol what are you up to?
hi jeannine guess you will have a busy weekend to.
well off to inlaws so everyone have a wonderful day
crossed with you carol ,oh my look at the color of that! beautiful
A few days ago I got the little cafe set set painted..I used a textured paint for it..this time it is green to mtach my deck furntiure. It was always white..painted many times over the years..It used to be in the gazebo..but this year I brought it up on the deck. While it looked pretty in the gazebo it is not comfortable to sit on for long.
Yesterday I also planted three of my morning glory seedlings..just doing a test to see if they do alright overnight..they are in a protected spot.
Like Betty..I am anxious to get the seedlings in the ground..but there is still a chance of frost.
Ruby..your Emily is so sweet..what a joy she msut be for you.
Judy..your lovely girls are so talented..I am so sorry to hear about the deer eating your plants..I complain about the rabbits..but deer are so much more destructive. I didn't know they were a problem in your area.
Hi Liz..have a good day..hope it all goes well.
morning girls...Carol, that set is gorgeous..has a bit of texture right? nicer on the deck..saw one yesterday aft. that I wouldn't mind having..lordy one has to stay away from stores at this time of year..mind keeps swirling at all the thing I WANT, for me/me/me... there was one that had slate on the top in grey's and brown tones, sure wanted to bring it home..always another day lol.. you and I just itching to get to where all are USA friends are, in bloom and colors galore!!
Another few weeks will make all the difference..
I'm sitting here with paintbrush between my teeth as I type, should be cleaning it before paint dries..got the outside edge done of my floormat, a coat to my swap project..still cool outside so not rushing to go out...
Forgot on my list of to do's the old pieces from the gazebo that wind took down last year..could make the 4 corners into 2 arbors for secret room...have been trying to get rid of an old dresser in my back shed, old fashion nobody wants it so a thought came to me, bring it out in the secret garden pull out the drawers slightly and fill with soil and plant..would look pretty - would need shaded plants though..so might get at it..
I know, I've far too many projects at hand but think of this...paint has to dry right, why not make use of the waiting time...lol...
OMG/OMG girls I got gifts from both my swaps and it excited me to no end..was so excited (oh/oh) forgot to put the turkey on..have done so - so what if it's not quite cooked, much better than burnt right..
I'm just having the most marvellous day..started out with a quick trip to a garage sale...Liz, got some goodies, they need to be refurbished but that's ok..
Got my 3 cedar trees for the front, not quite as tall as I would have liked but they will grow..
Now I'm off to cut grass...
Liz we almost never have humidity and when we do our life is turned upsidedown.
The Cannas are getting real tall. Thank you. The Echiverium is holding its own.
Betty your stuff looks like great finds. I just went to the camper to photograph my blue birds and they were not arround so went to one of our ponds at the campground to take some of mom and dad canada geese and 7 babies and the big lawnmowers were diturbing them so just came home. Maybe another day!!! Here is a pics I took this morning of my nieghbor's wisteria. Hugs to all BEV
Gorgeous wisteria..Bev..shame your birds woern't co-operating.
I am bushed! Been outside all day working in the garden cut some grass, planted a couple of perennials..trimmed some of my wisteria..which hasn't leafed out yet. I painted another wood table and chairs set. Fixed the kid swing..rope had broken so put on new rope.
Brought more decorations out to put in the Secret garden. I have so many little do-dads and basket thingies..rocks with words on them..little statues..etc.
I was amazed that a little wren has started fixing up the nest that was inside the birdhouse I refurbished yesterday.
I even had placed it in another part of the garden from where it usually was...and she found it..
And last year I had a chicadee that made a nest in the hole in an apple tree..and she is back going in and out too.
Plus I have robins eggs in the nest outside my front window in the Weeping Mulberry tree...also a nest that is there every year.
My children and grandchildren are coming tomorrow for lunch..some of them have to play baseball at 3:30..and one son and his family will go to Fenelon Falls for dinner with my DIL's Mum. So a nice lunch outside in the garden will be fun. Going to make potato salad soon..I will also cook two pork tenderloins and a roasted chicken...and a little roast beef. Betty..love your plant stand and planters..great stuff! I imagine a little spray paint will fix them right up.
Have a good evening all,
and Happy Mother's day to all
Starzz, I went out and wore myself out too. I have piles all over the place where I pulled weeds or or cut limbs out of bushes and such. I can't pick it up because we have more rain. I pulled the mucle above my right hip again and it is giving me fits. It is just like a stiff neck and I hate those. I took my mucle relaxer but it isn't helping. I am redoing my shade garden so am going to post pics of the progress this year. I would like all you nice peoples input please. In this first one to the left is a long hosta bed. Happy Mothers Day to all. Let me know what you all think OK? HUGS BEV
