Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Pt.42 Visit with Friends

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Betty, I went back and read some of our first threads.....smiles and tears.

I have thought of Tangie so often. She has a granddaughter and we were playing a matching game with her Abby (I think) and my Ethan. I do miss hearing from her. Abby was a little younger than Ethan, a beautiful little girl.

And I had forgotten that Darius and Araness posted as well. I think I will go back and read some more. I have shed all my tears already this week, not sure I have any left, I know I am for sure out of tissue.

And I remember the time when Judy was helping that young girl.....I would love an update on her as well.

A lot of changes in a year...but we are still the same inside, I think.

Stronger as we grow older.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

You absolutely exist, Jaye....loud and clear too.

Hugs to you, not so secret SP.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Jaye it will take me a bit to get you in the brain. But that is a beautiful Iris. I had only one and last year bought a couple of others. I think they are my favorite flower and so easy to grow and tough. I have had some I dug up and they ended up sitting in water and survived. They were just waiting to go to a new home.

Shar another wonderful story. Yes you should make a book of them for the family at least. Thankyou for the pictures.

Bev thank you for your beautiful pictures also. I did most of my reading when I was tired so don't remember most of it.

I had to go to work early this morning Liz. Come to find out the bigwig isn't coming until tomorrow. So hopefully he will be gone before I get there. You all keep your fingers crossed that he liked out store and is gone before I get there. We weren't even trying and we unloaded the truck in less then an hour. The driver was a fast worker. Then we got it all staged and started putting stuff away. We keep trying to figure out what a couple of the girls are doing at night. I had 4 days off and didn't see that much different when I got there this morning. They didn't face or do the floors last night. So glad they work tonight and hopefully will do if not then I get the pleasure tomorrow night! Said very sarcasticly!

Betty from his reaction I can't decide how he took your comment. But it was good that you stood up for what you thought. Hope the DGS get alot of business. Wish they lived by my mom as I would hire them to do her lawn. It is so tiny it wouldn't take them long. LOL

Hope you all had the day you needed! I'd better get going.
Here are my Iris from last year and they smell so good and need thinning again!

OK, now I am getting worried. Where is Betty???

Victoria Harbour, ON

She's home, girls just left..got home at 6:45 and the girls got here at 7pm..had time for a peanut butter and jam sandwich...look at the time, they've just left..my regular girls do a monthly dinner for seniors and today was the day, not often they come on that particular Wedn. but the other 6 did..all working on large projects so just as well a few don't show up..makes for a long day but when I see the excitement of their learning to express themselves in a piece, it makes it all worthwhile..I'll show you the matts they are working on, probably will finish them next week is less gabbing goes on..as well 2 are doing white daisies on the backs of Muskoka chairs...

This one will be gorgeous once they finish the rope and details in the boat..

Jeannine will be adding loons and pine trees next week, just did the basic outline tonight..

Tanya and Rita are doing the Muskoka chair backs and Joyce is doing an apple checkerboard matt for infront of her stove..needs branches and highlights and shading..

Teena is painting her dog in a boat sitting in a marsh so she's about step 2 of step 5..another 3 weeks for her..

Must remember these are beginners..they are patient and good learners..lol

So I'm rather tired tonight, heading up for bed..

Best..going back and reading some of our first posts...
Worse..no worse today..
What did I learn..that I can be aggressive when I need be..let's hope I don't need to be..lol - better stay out of Wendy's...

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

OK!!!!
I know this whole SP thing is a secret--but I just got my gift and it was from my SP---it sure is a mystery.......Have NO clue! There is a name and address on it from a Lora Doggett of Daytona Beach, FL. Hmmmmmmmmmm--we don't have a Lora--do we?

My gift was a DVD copy of the old Horror Movie "Fear No Evil". If none of you followed the saga of me searching for this (It is on this Forum) --and how I ended up e-mailing a man in Pakistan, who said he had copied it way back then.....He replied and said he would try to copy it on "Usernet" and it would be available for only 200 days "to the World" after that. The whole thing was so exciting and "kwanjin" (Celia) and me were the two trying to track this movie down.

SO! Someone from here must have been lurking around.....

Whoever you are--THANK YOU!!!!---I can't wait to watch it and see if it scares me like it did in 1969.....

Gita

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Had to go c/p the link to this Post. It isn't too long--check out the links....and read some of the feedback from people on this movie--that is where I found the name of the guy in Pakistan.....
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/827050/

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Hmmmmmmm.......Looking more closely at the envelope, it was shipped from Lora but, I believe, it was purchased on E-bay.....I think Jacob has made the movie available and someone found it and is churning out copies and making some money....It seems to be in great demand......

OK! Enough analyzing.....Whoever you are--thanks! I KNOW it cost more than $5!

Gita

Victoria Harbour, ON

Aft. - sun is trying to shine and I'm not sure it will make it..
Gita, aren't you the lucky one, someone out there must be reading your want list and checking it twice..wow...I was thinking about a few gifts I got, know they were suppose to be secret, I almost think they send them to someone else who sends them out on their behalf to really keep it secret..could that be it..

No supper last night..did really if you count a peanut butter and jam sandwhich, only toast and coffee this morning so I'm rather hungry..Suzanne's appt. came in late so most likely we'll be having a late lunch..

Liz only time solder will work is if you flux and solder a piece that already has foil...

Cardiff, ON(Zone 4a)

Gita, your yard looks beautiful, so inviting. It gives me something to aspire to. You've now also made me want to get a begonia. Oh, so many plants, so little time. Tha's so cool about your SP gift. I checked out the thread you linked. I have to say I usually go for more comedy movies but some of the ones on that thread look pretty cool. I hope you enjoy the movie.

Judy, your 'grandbaby' is so cute. What would be perfect would be a baby sling. Just because I know that you're always looking for more to do (lol) here's a link to a no-sew baby sling in case you're interested. http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/no_sew.html I remember seeing instructions somewhere for making a baby wrap out of a bedsheet. Here's a link to a pretty good video. http://magiccityslingers.wordpress.com/2007/06/24/how-to-carry-a-baby-in-a-bed-sheet-or-shawl-or-rebozo-or-shorty/ I love my baby carriers. I wish I had known about them when I had my first two.

Carol, Your grandkids must love having you so close. I remember spending a lot of time at my grandparents' house growing up. One day I took the school bus there without letting anyone know. My mom asked me what I would have done if nobody had been there. I said I would have climbed up and gotten the key from the hiding place then called home. I have many fond memories from there.

Liz, what a cool windchime. I think I may have to try something like that out with Sonora. Maybe I'll get some of her friends together to do some (after picking up some dishes somewhere). I have a bunch of beeds that would be great for that.

Shar, I love your wisteria. It's so beautiful.

Betty, that's so cool that your grandsons are starting a business - and they're doing it 'green' too. I hope they get lots of clients. Thanks for posting some memories from the first thread. I don't post as often as I would like but I really enjoy the friendships I've made.

Wow to all those beautiful irises. I love irises, they're so beautiful and elegant. Mine are just beginning to poke out of the ground now so I'm anxiously awaiting their blooms.

Man, all this talk about bananas - it almost makes me wish I had some roses. Right now I'm still moving things around way too much though so I'll stick with what I have so far. I've been trying to get out every day to get some yardwork done. I put a gate at our driveway so Ella can no longer take off down the road while we're outside. Most of the back yard still has about 6 inches of water but I'm getting stuff done in some of the higher areas. It's so nice to see some of my plants coming up. Also, some of my hoyas are blooming inside too so that's exciting. My Hoya carnosa has never really had much scent to it but this time it's scent is really strong. I'm so glad because I love the smell.

Anyway, I have a bunch of things that need doing before Ella wakes up so I better get at them.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You all must be having fantastic weather, all out playing..had lunch, regardless of what I east I still 'grow' within minutes..it's almost like 'add water and watch her grow' funny but not funny..heck, took a photo with labtec..was going to take a good one and show tummy but was afraid I'd get kicked of Daves for showing porno pictures (sorry Dave) lol..so here I am, can't really tell true size I am but might show me growing..wish it was in height not in width...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Just getting ready for bed, thought I'd drop in to say hi but everyone must be busy..so will call it a night..

Best..one of our clients was so appreciative of the kindness my firm showed him he paid for all our lunches

Worse..as soon as I ate I started to increase in size..yuk..

What did I learn today...that I had better make a list and check it out twice to make sure all my 'swaps' are in order..thank goodness they can't ship plants across the border or I'd be in deep trouble..so many plant swaps I'd like to join...

Someone asked me for a photo, hard to take a photo, put it on the timer and run to be photographed so not the nicest photograph, will get another when I'm 'skinny'..but just to give you a clue as to my size right now I'll post this..lol

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Ohhhh, Betty!
OK, I won't say anything.
But you know what I want to say, and you know all of us are so concerned.
Rats. You are too far away.

I can see it now, headlines:

Amazing Superwoman from KY tackles Canadian gentlewoman, shoves her into the waiting car, and hauls her rear off to the hospital!
Ha!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just bathed, got a few call, will have some porridge and enjoy a half hour looking through craft books...

Funny Shar, only problem is I've been to the hospital several time (actually 3) and there is nothing more for them to check out until I see the specialist May 14th..and then I would imagine he'll have some tests run or not..he might have a suggestion and I'll be a -ok..just carrying this extra weight makes me uncomfortable and that's probably why I'm so tired...no matter how much sleep I get or how much I'm not active it doesn't seem to help..even dozzing off on my ride home..but thank you I am working on the problem..picture still doesn't quite show you the size..I'm immense..lol.. so, not to worry, it's probably something so stupid..but you have to go through all the channels...

It rained here late this aft. and grass is wet and the area I need work done needs to be dry, so had to put off Kyle and Noah..told them I was the one cancelling so will pay them anyway..don't want to hear of it, but I insisted..bet they are pleased I didn't take them up on it...

Mom just called, she's been ill for about 2 weeks with that terrible virus/flu going around, she's just starting to move around and Jim has it and he's very ill..I wanted to go visit her at the cottage either tomorrow night (about 1 hr. drive) or on Sat. morning but she also insisted I stay away..says there is no sense in me catching what they have...ok..fine with me so told her I made her a gazebo bird feeder and would bring the 4x4 post and a set of butterflies in stained glass that I made for her for Mothers Day to work one day next week and she could meet me and I'd take her to lunch..they are not sure they'll be returning to Toronto next week with both she and Jim not feeling well...so cross that off my list of 'to do'

Guess that about covers my evening..
this time it's night/night for sure...

Glenview, IL

More like: Ky MightyMouse tackles Canadian Super-gentlewomen...

All kidding aside, This is serious!!!

I'll say it for you, holy doodoo Betty, What did you eat??? ... You take this picture with you when you get to that specialist!! Should be any day now isn't it???. I would tell you get to the Doc...But you will argue. We are Concerned, have been concerned and We LOVE you.

Been missing you all! Crazy busy...will make post soon.

Glenview, IL

Betty We Crossed...and see you had an argument!

Feel Better, I sure hope that goes down as quickly as it grew, excuse me every but geesh try and pass some gas!
Don't know what else to try.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Hi all! Well it stopped raining for a while but too late to go out and pull weeds so I have been taking pics of all my hosta babies that I grew in the house since Jan. Just got finished downsizing them so can put them on Hallson's where I got my seeds. Planted them in Jan but are still so small will have to ask advice.
Betty you talking about loseing wieght, Scotty is a diabetic and his kidneys are failing from not releaseing the potassium in his bodyand doc put him on almost a vegitarian diet and excersizing which he does not do much for a month and I expect them to start giving insilin and maybe dialisis soon. Please take care of your self with your wieght if that is causing you problems. Hope I didn't ofend you but like you and am concerned. You can write back and tell me where to go if you want. Hugs BEV

Pacifica, CA

evening all, busy tonight but hugs to all...

betty, are you keeping a diary of what your eating? wish they could bump up your appt i know from my own bloating it is very uncomfortable.hugs to you, ok i will try to figure out something with my project.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Pfffffffftttttt....that was diet coke all over my computer screen, Seed.....just bring it on, girl...you'll be down for the count in a few very short seconds.

And Bev, it's not any worse than what the rest of us have been saying for months.....I know, Betty, I know, and I am backing off.

KY mighty mouse, mumble grumble.....geesh.

OK, that aside, I have spent most of the week in the yard, which has been very soothing. I think I will live to tell the tale, as Aunt Bett would say. I sure flopped around on the bottom there for awhile, but grief can be overwhelming. Anyway, on the way to mending my heart, and have some lovely lovely flowers blooming. The wind y rain got the iris, so I had to go out and prop up, then again when the rains came once more. So now my wonderful iris have crutches. cute.

Roses are going crazy.....I am not sure where this yard came from. It is overwhelming. And the seeds that I planted Monday are already showing their little heads. Now I have forgotten where I planted things, but that doesn't matter, they will come up anyway. Tomorrow I will show you my Ky Blue Girl Iris....second favorite only to the black magic.

I hope you all have had a good week..I am sorry I have been a little bit scarce. Seems I didn't have words there for awhile. Now i am talking to the birds and the flowers, well I always talk to the cats.

OK, we had storms , and I have a feeling they are on their way east, so be careful Ruby and GG...they were not nice storms. I hope you all have had a good day, and are enjoying the sunshine.

Judy, behave.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi all - have been very busy at work and in my yard or at baseball games when off.

Ruby, please let us know you're ok - terrible storms went thru the Charlottesville area tonight with tornadoes so I want to make sure everyone is ok.

Betty, I'm going to head down to my parent's tomorrow afternoon and spend the night with them and give Mom her Kitty picture. I cannot wait!!! I will surely post a picture of it!!

Well, off to bed now. Will try to check in tomorrow. Y'all have a wonderful day!!!

Jeannine

Glenview, IL

Aww..I am behaving! Were on the same side!

What can I say...giggling ear ta ear here. sorry 'bout your computer screen. (oh little heheh)

...This Gentle Giant only to you, so put your dukes down. or will have to send Feathers (will be more even).
to means well,
and I am so glad Nature is helping you to feel better.
Smile the sun shine on you and all.

Betty, You know I love you, can't help being concerned.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Betty I am so proud of you. I don't often challenge people either if they are not of any significance in my life in the big scheme of things but sometimes you have to speak up when there is just RUDE behavior that effects your day and or others as well.

Liz, it has been May grey w/ burn off that is just hot and humid too. Wind too on many days like yesterday.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, good night sleep, only 4 hrs. to work this today so that is a plus...I'm up and at it, ready to leave early as I have to drive to Midland and pick up Suzanne, her care is going in for repairs, and then we're stopping off at Canal Road to p.u. mega pkgs. of cut flowers and another stop to the 'rose' greenhouse, need some roses for me...so just doing that is a great start to a day..

OMG, forgot to tell you that I did the walk around in my garden..last year everyone must have been talking about roses and I must have purchased 3 or 4, no roses last year but lordy I'm seeing beautiful leaves coming from the bottom of their stalk so this year, with careful nurturing I just might get my roses...I cannot believe the growth, I could say some grew 6" from last week.. greenery has a beauty of it's own, but I sure am waiting for the flowers..

This aft. on my way home have to take a photo of a 54" water feature, mom was talking about one so I'll take a photo of it, send it for her to see and if it's the one she wanted I'll go back in town and pick it up..

Well better get myself moving, have to leave a tad earlier this morning and I've not even done my hair nor am I dressed..

so will respond to all your post this morning..works a calling..

Crozet, VA

Greetings All - I just quickly skimmed over most of yesterday's posting. I saw Sharron's name several times and am glad to see her as talkative as she is being now.

How cool Betty that you went back to when the thread first began. I did read it and enjoyed it.

We had rain all night and it is probably too muddy to be outside today, so I will do inside stuff. I sure have plenty of it. One thing that I am hoping to do next week is move all of my houseplants outside on screened porch. It gets diffused sun and the plants loved it there last year. That will give me a lot more indoor space. And.....if we can get Tucker out on his own, I will have a whole room that will give me much more space to work with.

Little Miss Emily came by to visit yesterday. Her dad was installing something on my computer. I took a few pictures of her and will post later on.

Good to see everyone. Have a good weekend.

Ruby

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Betty,

Throw a hand-full of Epsom Salts around each of your growing Roses and work it into the soil a bit. It will encourage new canes to grow from the base.

Epsom Salts is Magnesium Sulphate--great for healthy plant and blooming....It is NOT just for soaking your feet.....

It has rained 2" between last night and now--and it is still at it. Ruby is right--too muddy to work outside today. I can still get some work done under my big patio roof--like potting some stuff up, filling containers so they are ready to plant, etc.
I spent a lot of time yesterday cleaning my tables off a bit because.......

Aina and Mark (DD) is coming over Saturday and we are having a cookout--for Mother's Day. We are having grilled, skewered, bacon wrapped, colossal shrimp with BQ sauce and also some sausages. Aina is bringing wine and some macaroni salad.....Hope I last....as I have to work 6AM-1PM Saturday morning. That means I get up at 4:30AM!

Saturday they have to go to Daddy-O's as it is his Birthday and he is also having a cookout.....

OK! Have to get going......Gita

These are Pentas.....Got them at HD. They are a wonderful plant to have in the garden! Bloom until frost! Just keep dead-heading them....My other fave is the Heliatrope. What a fragrance!!!WOW!

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

This is a Heliotrope. They come regular size and dwarf. I don't like the dwarf.....
Amazing blue color--also blooms until frost.....fills out nicely. Keep dead-heading this as well....

Ruby, I'll look forward to seeing photo's of Emily, bet she's grown so much since the photo you took of her with gardening tools... is Tucker looking for accommodations?

Gita, those colors are spectacular, another month and I should have some 'pretties' but until then it's a stop at Canal Rd. flower distributors.. sounds as though your weekend is all planned as well..you just reminded me that I forgot to take the turkey out of the freezer..yuk..better put it on my today list for this aft.

LOL you should see my car..I picked up 5 pkgs of flowers (2 for the girls here) 2 doz. roses, little doz. for me, Suzanne picked up 3 pkgs. and 2 plants, I also picked up 2 plants and 2 hanging baskets for me...

We took the cut flowers in the office and put them in water..so her office is mega smelling as is mine... 2 1/2 more hrs. to go and I home we go..calling for nice weather this weekend, cool side but sunny..

Have to drop Suzanne off in Midland on the way home this aft. and then I'll travel on to Penetanguishene and see if my aunt (more like sister) wants to join me to put flowers on my grandmother and aunts' graves (5 in total) bought roses for that purpose..a little shopping and hope to be home enough to enjoy my evening...

See!!!! Wouldn't having that grin directed toward you make your knees weak too?

Emily was in a good mood for the most part yesterday until it was nap time.

The flowers are for Liz who always asks how things are blooming here. This is a patch of Columbine that I spilled the seeds last year. I took several of them to my massage therapist the other day and have some others who are wanting a few sprigs too.

I thought that this was a real cute one too. Can you tell that I am really proud of her? ha-ha

Where oh where is cyber space did my post go???

Was just telling you Ruby that's she's just adorable, a keeper for sure and would think that you hate to see her leave...love the last photo, almost seems as though the doggies has something positioned in teeth and encouraging her to come out and play...

Your columbines are gorgeous..love the purple..think I have some growing but if memory serves me they are off white with a trim of a color..

Purchased a shrub last year and paid $24.98 at a nursery, of course didn't keep the bill and it is 'dead'..while in town I'll drop in and mention it to them..doubt they will honour the guarantee without the sales slip, do have the ticket on the plant though so who knows..worth a try right???

Time to head north..oh happy days!
