Great pics all, I'm drooling can't ya see. Holding napkin to mouth so I don't get it on keyboard.
Sheri, have learn allot from columbines. In my forth year with them. Its like Katye said, always changing, to a point. The seeds I took from the mother plant the first year came true, the seeds the second year did not, which I did not save seeds that year, I dug up the babies from last year ( which would be third as far as I know none came true, those who I have given then to let me know if they came true, I have heard from Carla hers is pink. Two that I kept each a diff. color. The mother still comes true. Its a Bee thing I think, spreading it around. LOL
Mother is in the very back, the two in front are Second years seeds. I have no others to cross with.
I think my math worked LOL
What's Blooming Outside Your Door, Part 2
Bea ~ Absolutely gorgeous! Love the red and pink. And I'm so glad you found your macro (wish I could find mine! Don't even know if there is one, but that's one of the things I MUST do today!).
Tills ~ The columbine area of the woodland looks so very nice. Weeds? What weeds? Personally, in some cases I love that the flowers don't stay true. I think I would be a skosh upset if the blue ones were lost, though. Those are so, SO pretty. But for me, columbine is columbine and I love it. Always have, always will.
he/she was so beautiful. I held it for a few minutes and it played dead ..eyes even closed. He/she would peek every once in a while to see if I was still around. Could not resist taking a picture of the pretty orange belly. This salamander is new to me being from CA and all. Anyone know what species this is? He was released in the area of the yard where my blueberries are planted. I think he may like it there. Gosh he/she was cute! Hope we cross paths again..
I don't know the species but they are all over the place in moist wooded areas. They like to be under a piece of wood. Love all the columbine. I also have Nora Barlow and it has crossed with my native ones. I really like them.
I was thinking it may be Rhyacotriton olympicus, or the Olympic torrent salamander, but it's a little far south for that one. Might be a Taricha torosa, or California Newt. Love the little toes.
must be a male - toenails are not painted...
Plus...the minute Bea asked anything of him he played dead! Typical ~ sheesh ~
excellent observation, Sheri!
Years of experience, Kate ~ But I gotta give it up to you, cuz I didn't even look at the toenails, just the cutie patootie little toes!
ROFLMBO. You two are a hoot.
Yes, Bea, what a cutie pie. Hope you get to see him again.
look at the size of this trillium! DH hand for comparison huge!!!!!!!!!!!
beautiful iris pixy.... love the red and night ruler is awesome!!!
i dont know but its massive... i popped a pod off of one later but i dont know if it will ripen or not.. well see. love the poppies, but your too far for me to dig!!
So I'll just send some to you if you want them. That's no biggie. They are easy. Just remind me at the end of the summer or in the fall when I'm digging things out. I'll probably post again because I hate to throw away perfectly wonderful plants. I'll probably send them to tills, too, because she doesn't live close either. And gas prices are dreadful.
Shokami..thanks for the newt ID. They are so cute. Looks like you had a beautiful hike yesterday. Great pictures.
Beautiful Iris's and poppies everyone!
pixy that would be great! i will put it in trade tracker so i dont forget! and beautiful iris all.......gorgeous.
You guys are enabling me in regards to the BI's. I finally got mine down to "minimalist" holdings, and there you go with all the enticing pictures. I was so proud of myself being able to show restraint on the Ensatas & sibericas this year. Oh my - will need to work overtime....Has anyone ever bought just one BI? I don't know if this is possible!
Carla, what were you doing up so late?
Shokami, Forgot to mention that looks like it was a great hike. I miss hiking.
Cute newts, too.
Pix, um, you probably didn't used to have so many...I think they, er, grew? ;) (thanks, btw!) What colors are you thinking about adding?
As I'm looking around my yard, it's becoming clear that I've got a few extras, or will soon anyway. Maybe we need to organize another swap or event soon.
yes, & Hi! Susybell! Perhaps when it is actually warm/hot/anything in-between...
Kathy came over for a Sunday morning visit & just left a bit ago. We were both quite chilled. Don't know what the high is, but the wind is making it feel like March.
