Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Pt.41 Visit with Friends

Victoria Harbour, ON

Am sure the thread was getting long for some of you to download so here we go with #41...

TURN up the heat..wow it's chilly out there, and some rumbling last night, a few drops of rain no that was it..so not sure what the day will bring weatherwise...think it will be a full time job bringing in the plants each night..colder temps for next week, i fact a few freezing nights I believe..

Up a good part of the night with bad dreams so feel as itired as I was when going to bed...

Going to go make that coffee, decide what to do today and will be back shortly to gab...

Victoria Harbour, ON

OK, that was a quick decision..even though I'm going there tomorrow with Sharon, I do want something nice for Paul's bar, so I figure if I leave now to do the 100 miles I just might be back for noon and can still have the entire aft. to myself..must wait for the wather to warm up anyway..so talk later

Enjoy your morning..

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

well off to inlaws.. hopefully fil has done some more week on the stained glass peice,
we will see thee calling for WARM temps today but there further inland so it will be extra hot up there, the most awful thing happened yesterday..
about a month ago dh merged to my plan which my cell plan is with sprint
so we upgraded the plan it was buy one phone get the other free added unlimited text and that was all we(I) needed lol.

so we were expecting a 200 dollar bill for the equipment and minor things for the first bill and then everything would be normal again done deal right....

well let me tell you, we got two bills one for 500.00 and one for 5795.00 due immediatly
dh just flipped and went right through the roof!!!

we went in a store to sign up for all of this and the girl was saying it was going to take a while so go out and eat and come back in a hour..
well" what" was she telling them in the phone?
so needless to say dh ripped them a new one the 5795.00 was a computer error
and the 500.. got droped down to 300.00 so all is happy now.. but if you have to renew get all the hidden costs up frount!!
she even had us signed up for internet! and we told her we didnt want it!! what a mess glad its all behind us now phew.

betty, OMG lol your not talking about thease are you?? he he he not laughing at you intentionally just that... i have thease in my collection of hairdressing things....
so i had no clue you could get them, oh that is funny.
gosh darn it laura you just had to giggle and get me started...

Hi Again Ladies - I come to you live from sitting in front of a brand new Compaq computer. Mine died early this morning and I am not a person to do with out Internet access for very long. I was at our local Super Wal-Mart before 7 AM. ha-ha This set up is pretty nice. A 19" monitor is really nice. I will let my older son Ben take a look at the dead one and see if he can repair it or something. If not, I will donate it I suppose.

The pollen here is awful!!! I had to really wash down my computer desk before putting the new computer on it. The top of the desk is all nice and shiny and it makes all the other furniture look awful in comparison. My dining room table which sits directly in front of a set of french doors that we keep open when the weather is nice, is almost yellow with the pollen laying on it.

Well, I am sitting here looking at all the mess from unboxing the new computer and taking the old one down. I need to box everything back up here in a little bit and get it put away somewhere. I cannot stand messes and now this pollen being on everything is really bothering me. I almost feel like packing up and leaving the area while this is this strong. Is there anywhere without much pollen? As a child and a teenager I suffered with allergies terribly. I haven't had that problem for many years now. Not sure why I outgrew it, but am glad that I did. All of my cousins on my dad's side of family had a hard time with seasonal allergies and things. Wonder if they outgrew theirs too. Will have to check with some of them and find out.

Liz, I would have had a heart attack had I opened the phone bill for over five thousand dollars. Man, oh man I can see why both you and hubby were upset. It was last spring and summer when it seemed that about every two or three weeks, I was purchasing a new cell phone for Tucker from his damaging them. I lost count of all the money I spent. I finally said no more phones are being bought. He then began asking to use mine when he went out. For some odd reason that phone was never damaged. He just purchased a new one for himself recently. I wasn't posting in here during that time, but at the same time he was going through about a phone a month, he was also wrecking cars. He basically totaled the one that I had bought for him to use, but John did all the body work and mechanical work that was needed and got it running again for him. During the time that John was repairing Tucker's car, he used mine to get to school and work. He did major damage to it too. I had to pay $2,500.00 for safety issues with the axle or something underneath of the car. All the dents and scratches are still there. We had estimates for the body work that was between $7,000.00 and $12,000.00.

When Tucker received his money for the sale of his property, I had him pay me back $10,000.00 for car damages. He threw that up in my face a couple of weeks ago about he shouldn't have had to pay me when I haven't had the car fixed yet. Ten thousand wouldn't touch what he cost me last year. Oh well. I hate portraying him as a bad kid, because he really isn't. He is just mixed up and doesn't have a lot of ambition currently. I haven't asked much from him and the little I have asked, he can't seem to do, so he is best off on his own where I don't have to see what he is doing day in and day out. All of his antics last year left me baffled and questioning why he was doing certain things. I never figured it out and am not going to spend any more time trying to figure it out. "It is, what it is." As I stated earlier, he is sabotaging himself.

Anyway, enough of that talk. I hope that everyone who is having good weather today is enjoying it. After my hot tea I am heading out to do a few things and then coming in and lounging for the rest of the day.l

Just wanted to tell Laurie that it is so good to hear that she is feeling pretty good these days. Isn't that so much better than feeling the opposite? ha-ha I am really glad that you get as much out of this group as you do. I always feel good after reading the posts here too. There are some really very special people here and even though I don't speak directly to each of you, I do read the posts and feel a kinship with each of you.

So, here is to feeling better for all of us.

I will "second" that post Roby...
I have been to The Garden Path again today. A small garden place with interesting plants as well as the usual.
Yesterday I saw a plant I had never used before.
I came home and did some research on it.
It seems a wonderful plant for mixing in with other colurful plants in planters.
I am going to have it in with my pink geraniums with some trailing vinca.
It is heat and Drought tolerant and blooms all summer..and can even be overwinteres in the hosue.
It is a little like baby's breath.
Name is "Euphorbia Diamond Frost".
If you Google it there are all kinds of good things said about it.
I just bought three at $2.49 each.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

These plants are still in their pots,... just placed in the planter for now, so I can put them in the garage if we get a frost.
So picture these all planted with some vinca trailing down too..I think it will be really pretty.

Up close..
The tag says it is an annual..but I read on one site that it will come inside and keep flowering over the winter.

Hello, I'm back..got a wonderful set for Paul's bar and a 6 piece puzzle set that he enjoys...Jeff (DS) called me on my cel and says he's nearby doing his motorcross for several hours and said he'd see me at supper time, so picked up a roast and veggies and I'll make supper for us...

The trip to Meaford is almost doing a full circle around Georgian Bay, nice drive and it was sunny so I stopped for breakfast in Wasaga Beach - took a quick trip down to the waterfront as it was really a tourist haven boardwalk, last year it all burnt down- boutique after boutique/restaurants, game areas etc..only to be no more, so they are hoping to try and do some special events to attract tourism..I think they'll come even without it as it's sandy beaches for miles/miles, sand dunes, water part so am sure it will have an impact but not as much as they think..that's my own thoughts though..

Then just going thru Thornburry another waterfront community there was a church bazaar, so it was a 'must' stop...couldn't believe it, in the box-doubt it was ever used, an electric meat slicer just like the one I paid $119.00 for and it was $1.00 - imagine, so bought it, think Greg borrowed mine a few months ago to slice up cheese so I'll give it to them, bought some nice glass pieces and a couple of flower vases...Liz..OMG they had about 10 ice cream soda glasses and an elderly man was looking at them, he put them down, picked them up, put them down, I'm think geeze guy- you don't need these, so while I waited for them impatiently, I saw that he had finally made up his mind and bought them..shucks, they would have been perfect..oh well...

Then my next stop as at a red clay pottery factory...I had already bought their water feeder for the birds this spring so that was out, but they did have a nice toad house, another must for me, and also a big flower pot that I'll dig and set in the ground just as garden art...

So now we move on the the big factory outlet and I found several gifts for my 'swaps' oh woe is me..one is 2 large glass hummingbird feeders and a rod iron support..lovely, still wrapped, not sure if they should belong to me...then a nice feeder, looks like a tray with saucer, teacup and teapot with a butterfly on it, another piece that should stay with me...then I bought a set of frogs, legs move, I thought they were to set in the garden and needed garden art piece to send out, unwrapping them, hello, I see that they are floating frogs for ponds and/or swimmingpool so out they went in the pond..I'm loosing ground right, everything I bought is a must for me...I'm getting 'greedy' but it's ok..because if all goes well with Sharon, we're meeting and going to the same places except there are a few more shops to visit...(so I didn't spend all my bucks today, had to keep a few for tomorrow) grinning....

then on the way home I stopped at three nurseries, fell in love with a zillion plants, one just like your small white flowered on Carol, and they had hangers for $39.99 and you should have seen the wicker containers they were in..wanted a few of those but resisted...

So, got about 1/2 hr. from home and it's raining, so can't go out to work in the garden, here I am, getting paints from the craft room for my mailbox project, had to stop here and chat with you for awhile and now it's upstairs I go...

Need to do a few things before the kids all show up..we go to Paul's I guess around 8:00pm..should have been a 'day' party..don't they know I'm usually sleeping by 8:00 pm on a Saturday night...

Think what I'll do is have Jeff come with me, Greg and Mel can drive their vehicle so that when I'm ready to come home I'll not have to wait and if Jeff has a few drinks he can come home with his brother..Greg has never drank..everyone loves him-he's always the D.D. - either him or mom..lol

so now that I've planned my entire day/evening and probably tomorrow as well I had better get doing SOMETHING...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Looks as though there might be a change in plan, Kyle just called and asked if I could pick him and Noah up around 5:00 at a friends..Greg has rushed Melanie into the hospital, she's in severe pain...so if I do go, I'll go for 1/2 hr. or so and bring along the boys...

You never know, no matter how much you plan, things can take a turn!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just talked to Melanie, they think she had some cysts (?) that broke, causing the extreme pain, gave her a shot for pain, prescription, told her to rest, if she develops more symptoms, go back to emerg immediately and they will book appt. for tests next week...she said she felt pressure then extremem pain, couldn't stand..so she's home, not sure what I'm doing now...

Hi,
Well, I have been working all day. The entire front is now raked, as is, the side entrance way. LOL, did some serious arobics gardening style. So after countless trips to the compost heap I am at least satified things look nice a neat. I am ready to take a shower and call clean up done for the day.

Carol, your plants look real pretty all lined up in a row. It will be a sweet touch with the E.Dimond Dust.

I agree as well Ruby.
Congratulation on your new computer! You will enjoy it for sure.

Goodness Betty, I hope Meleanie will be alright.
Sounds like you had a fun filled day b-boppin around. nice finds for your swaps, er... I mean your garden, haha.

So what has everyone else been up to? Everyone still working?

Well, I am going to take shower...thinking about working on mini house tonight.

Took some pictures after I worked in the yard today, decided to make a new flower bed by connecting 2 old ones. About half way through i realized I didn't have enough stuff, so will have to go tomorrow to get more so that I can finish it. Anyway here are some fun photos, including my almost new flower bed....which is where i will plant most of the wonderful seeds I have been accumulating....Here is my rhododendron just beginning to bloom...

Here are two Japanese ferns, one has a reddish tint.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Well, hello all! Y'all have been busy!

Laura, glad you're feeling well. So weird to think it's winter down under when it was up close to 90 here today and we're now having thunderstorms.

Betty, sounds like you have had a busy day! I'm worn out reading about your day!

I've been a little busy the past couple of days too. I worked from home yesterday until 12 then took the rest of the day off. Went to order a new 3/4 bed mattress for DD. She sleeps in an old antique sleigh bed that was hand carved by a great uncle for my grandfather. The mattress is made of feathers and weighs about a 100 lbs! It's like trying to move a dead body when changing the sheets! We're keeping the box springs cause that's ok - just getting rid of the "body"!

DS had a baseball game last night that looked like it was going to be dismal. We scored first, then the other team came back and was leading 8 to 4 in the bottom of the 6th (this league only plays 6 innings). Our team got up and I tell you what - the rally caps came out and our boys scored 5 points to win the game! DS hit a triple and if he' was a faster runner, it would have been a HR! Anyway, quite an exciting game. Had another game today and unfortunately, we were shut out. The 10 yr old pitcher for the other team will be going places!! He was the pitcher on our team last year so now we know how the other teams felt when we played them!

Decide to get up early this morning and head into the city to Maymont Park to the annual Herbs Galore event. I have never been before and since I love herbs, figured I could have some fun. Got there at 9:00 and it was already busy. I brought my big red garden wagon which definitely came in handy! I was very surprised but alot of the vendors's plants were quite pricey. I'm expecting $2 or $3 plants and stuff was being sold for $4 and up to $10. So I bought a few things. Some tomato plants; sweet potato vines; basil; hen & chicks; lace marigolds; salvia; and some gourd seedlings. I did splurge on a Orchid Cactus. I took a picture (below) of what it will look like hopefully next year. Mine is still small.

Tomorrow, I think I'm just going to hang around the house and work on some school work and generally just chill. I also think I'm going to work a flex schedule this week and work till 2:00, then come home and work. My bos is out on vacation and this will save us some $$ on DS being watched after school. So hopefully, it will be an easy week!

Well, here's the pic of the orchid cactus (mine is pink!) and another one of Murphy that I just couldn't resist!

Hugs to all!!

Gosh where to begin. Worked some more on my hardscape with the free pavers I got and helped Greg put a new door on our Cobra and went for a 2 hour motorcycle ride through the poppies before they fade.

Did some more direct sowing and trasplanted some of my seedling hollyhocks and Lupines.

My roses are starting to bloom. That is the best thing.

I LOVE LOVE your yard and neighborhood Shar and I want to live there.

B your kitchen is so cute.

I am glad your dil had nothing worse wrong and that is bad enough.

Liz you are right I did get you and Judy confused in the vermin or critter department. The Canna's are all popping up that you sent me. Thank you so much. The other things are getting too much water and in clay soil. So when I get a better spot I will transplant them but they are fine anyway, just look a bit overwatered in spots.

Ruby you are doing the right thing w/ your son.

laura nice to hear from you and glad you found the camara.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Ah ha. That is so funny. He has devil colored eyes too. My dog Corbin used to get mad when we left so he would get the pillows off the couch and put them on the floor and take the throw rugs out of the baths. If he was real mad he would put them by the dog door.

One time we went to Vegas and when we came home, all the rugs and pillows were in the driveway and he saw us and instead of going crazy when he saw us, he first did the happy dance until we stopped the car, he took off running with his tale between his legs.

I hate puppies for that reason. 18 mo. and they are different dogs.

Liz are you the one who wanted red poppies? I collected some seeds off mine.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

man quiet tonight, guess I'll watch 20/20

Crozet, VA

Ha-ha Dawn, had to laugh about your dog's antics when he was mad. We had a special little pup named Pippa who died almost four years ago. Whenever we would leave and not take her, we always came home to overturned trash cans. The stinker.

Jeanine, what a beautiful orchid cactus. I have never seen anything quite like it and would have been tempted to buy it also. Love the picture of Murphy. He looks a bit drunk in the picture with his heavy eyes and all. He is a cutie.

Judy, it sounds as though you had a very productive day. I love feeding our compost bin. It is hilarious how much interest gardeners have in dirt. ha-ha John compiled both of our bins in to one which is now overflowing, but that gives us a chance to begin brand new with a new one. So far it only has the remains of two lawn mowings, some shredded paper and kitchen scraps from about two weeks. He plans on building a third bin in order to have three bins and get on a schedule where we always have "done" compost.

Betty, wowee woman, you are such a busy beaver. The little excursion sounds like fun though. I would have loved to have spent the morning with you. The visit to the water side sounds magnificient. Have fun again today. I hope that your DIL does okay with her pain issues. Keep us updated.

Starzz, what a beautiful arrangement you have put together. I love it. Reminded me that I like to have at least one geranium each year, so that along with Vinca are on my list to buy. I am not sure if i will get outside to do anything much today or not. Will have to see how my day inside goes. I didn't keep up with household chores yesterday, so have double duty this morning. ha-ha

Gonna close this and go back and see if I missed speaking directly to anyone. Don't want to scroll back and chance losing this post. Have a great Sunday everyone.

Oh yeah, just thought of Liz. Liz, I love the table that you bought. I have one very similar but is a darker color. A mirror and lamp came with it when I bought it several years ago at Lowe's. I love it.

Morning everyone, not just I, sounds as though everyone was busy yesterday...slept fairly well, glanced at the clock and though OMG better get up and give Sharon a call to see if she's up to today..she called late yesterday afternoon, she bough a gazebo and she and Rhonda (DD) put it together and managed to get it up on Friday, well yesterday the winds came up and blew it over, some broken pieces..she said she'd call the manufacturer and order them tomorrow..nothing seems to be going well for her..

She interviewed a prospective 'mommy/daddy' for her dog (she breeds the American Eskimo" dogs..said she would put them on her list..has 5 families already so I asked her (not knowing) how many dogs would be left and she put me in my place, SHE breeds ONLY when she is sure the entire batch is sold...know people from USA have sperm shipped to them vis Vet..have to have a qualified vet do it, tape viles and other vet pick it up at the airport. imagine...anyway she sure does screen people..I'd probably not pass because I 'work' !!

Then yesterday aft. got a call from longtime friend Liz (Ireland) she had been going out with a gentleman for a year and they broke up, as well, they were on tour dancing (sr's frolics of some type) and she fell and injured herself..hasn't been able to move around much ..poor soul...

So yesterday was nt a day to answer the telephone..every time I answered, someone had bad news...

Now for better things before I get on my way...

Shar your gardens look spectacular.. can't wait to see your garden of 'black' OMG look at that wisteria..can't imagine sitting out and looking at such beauty...

Liz, yes those are the hairnets, yuk, put one on and thought now what if I passed on tonight and they'd find me in this garb, granny jammies/robe and hairnet...lol..so in the drawer they went until another day...great buys...don't you love garage sale time being back??? I truly don't need anything but gee - I spend $3.00 and got all those bargooons.. did FIL get more of your glass cut..is this a project that you are both doing and you get the benefit..I like that...I've but part of a day to finish the one I started..I'll have to get at it ..through away (dumb me) don't know why, that beautiful stained glass piece I had for the back deck so now, I'll get real modern with blobs, chains, red glass and black glass and do another...

Judy, sounds as though you put a lot of effort into the garden as well...is there one particular plant/shrub type that you focus on or are you like me, anything goes?...
When's your next trip to the cottage...

Dawn, it's amazing what dogs do when they are not pleased about your leaving..Sailor going through something similar, she will not go out in the morning for her constitution duties..so I have to beg, have treats in hand, jingle my car keys, say 'ride Sailor - go for a ride' and still she's getting smart about my antics..even ball playing isn't working...wonder who is smarter..the dog or I...I'm probably entertaining her...

Ruby, no wonder you are up early this morning, your playing with that new computer...are you on high speed..wouldn't it be fun if you all lived closer that we could do a shopping day with lunch...how much fun would that be...we'd be just a gabbing, smilling and laughing..a true friendship day that would be...wow, DS sure got into mischief for a period of time, you were right in taking the $10,000. lesson well learned for him..yes, no one thinks he's 'bad' everyone knows that children go through these periods of just not caring about the future and then one day you look back and wonder why was it you worried so...this will be the case for you I'm sure...

Jeannine, painting of the kitty went out yesterday, sorry I didn't hit a post office sooner, but, the post mistress did it quick ship delivery and she said you should have it within 6 to 8 days which means it will be there in plenty of time for 'Mother's Day'... look at that Murphy...lol...keeps you all on your tows...

Carol...you are within a couple hrs. drive, once garden is up to par, a visit to you will be a must..can't wait...

Do you all at this time of year go in search of what you can cut and transplant into other areas of your garden? looks as though I've lots of growth in many of the plants and thought I might do this, perhaps I should wait another few weeks...

Well, I probably have not responded to everyone or as much as I wanted to but it's another long drive day..

Just called Sharon and she's up and at it so better get myself 'gone'...was hoping

Played yesterday aft. and did the 'primitive' tool mailbox to set out for my gloves, cutters etc. just a cutesy thing..no high tech painting there but fun...the other side has a trowel and seed packets, on the end it has clippers and dragonflies as well...

Good Morning Everyone.

Early Rise and shine for me...of Course once everyone was in doors it was nighty, night for this one. 9ish, thats early!

Coffee in hand, Have decided it's too cold for me so no choice but for some laundry. Was watching Driving Miss Daisy. A movie I can watch again and again.

Betty, You enjoy the day, (probably already gone). Yesterday was just a day for raking, so all part of the front garden was tended.
The side garden is really just a very small sections. I have Shasta Daisy nicely growing as well as Hosta there. Then the rock drive way.
Whew that was a mess, lots of twigs and leaves. I try and keep the rock clean as that is where everyone enters the house.
OK, I love my boy and do enjoy his buds to come and visit, but if they drag any more things from the shed...I am going to flip! haha, well things were looking tidy for about an hour he wasn't home.
Anyhow, I have one last section to clean up..thats the dry creek bed on other side of house. Hot diggity, I might just be on time this year, now to save my lunch money for some plants! I decided, I am going to try all the glad bulbs liz sent me for birthday will go along the face of the house. Painted daisy on the Watkins side, and Columbine from SP in front around Silver Tree. In living bird feeder, will plant sweet william, chicks and hens and Ajuga, maybe a splash of yellow. My Sedum is starting to sprout, Pleased about that. Black Jade it's called, was so pretty...Ok also I have a question. Remeber my Oriental Lilly? It is supose to come back isn't it? So far not seeing anything.

Ruby, this is my first real compost pile so I am not sure if I like it yet, LOL it is a ton of work. Yesterday I took a pitchfork and turned as much as i could. hehe, like tossing a giant salad. Nothing has dropped to bottom yet, but it has only been a couple of weeks, keep telling myself patience girl...

So I've some wonderful news to share...Julia, is very excited. Several going ons...!st she is to finally start her Job at UPS on Monday! woohoo. Also she has a very early Concert to practice for. Her School is receiving a Grammy for being chosen the # Music Departments of High Schools in the enite Nation!
