thease ones out here are huge like a dog ! well two are gone waiting for the third one on the high platform to get down..

Glenview, IL

He's a baby, Believe me, he will get huge.

Remember my telling you there was one, sitting under bird feeder looking up wondering how to get at the seed?

I think this is the same one. He has no fear I was standing right in front of hime to get this picture.

Because it was dark, it's a guessing game for my camera...So I took like 7 shots flash and all!

He just poked for fallen seed and when he had enough posing wandered away nonchalantly.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, 50, just a young lady...my DS and I were having a time in the restaurant guessing peoples ages..you know no matter how old you get if you don't look in the mirror you feel the same as if you were 21..so, there were some (just after church) all dressed, pretty spiffy.. and Sharon kept saying she thought they'd probably be in their 70's-80's but I bet you ten to one many were my age...Laura as long as you all get together won't it be fun..there must be something special you want and just don't want to ask them for it..come on..tell us your secret 'want list'..don't we all have them...now that you've found your camera we need photo's...you'll shortly be getting up and here we are ready for bed..not everyone but certainly me...

Had a lovely day with her..put in another 250 miles so I'm exhausted..bought a few things, mostly at the candle shop, a couple things at the distributors for gifts and didn't even stop at the nurseries as we both wanted to get home...

Liz, I did find a birdfeeder stand and I've some ideas for it, right now it doesn't look it's best but guarantee you it will..it will be on the front deck with flowers and vines growing up it..see the birdhouse you sent me in my 'swap'..can't you just see vines growing all around it?

Melanie, Greg and the boys dropped in a few hours ago, Kyle and Noah took their boating exam and both got their licence...Melanie said she's feeling much better but quite doped up..thought she had better pick up the dozen roses I got her before they were all dead..lol...

Then Kathy dropped in, brought me supper, chicken stew, how thoughtful was that...

Jeff visited as well today, left me his golf pants to mend and a note on the t.v. saying I never stay home..excuse me, this was the first weekend that I've been out Fri.Sat. & Sun.

Sharon has over 25 acres of land, she just bought a wide 54" cut John Deere riding lawn mower, her other one is almost new, thought I might buy it for me..she had a possible buyer so if it falls through then it will come home with me and then I can purchase a little work wagon and save myself a lot of work..then I can be just like Carol..lol...

Carol, did you hear there is yet again a possibility of having snow Tuesday and freezing temps all week..poor plants, am sure they don't know what to do...

I'm excited, went near the hidden garden room and couldn't believe I've about 4 ft. of growth on the hops vine..won't take long to cover the arbor..as soon as the weather improves I'll plant some morning glories and perhaps a few other vines to give it color..last year the morning glories climbed and even grew into the lilac trees..pretty sight...

Judy, an exciting time for Julia isn't it...no wonder you are excited as well...nice to see their lives following a plan which is for the best...is there any way you can video tape the musical?

Amy, that reminds me, how did your musical go...great success I would think..come on back, sit awhile and tell us all about it..

Ruby, what did you get up to today..were you able to visit with that lovely little grandaughter of yours..get her gardening?

I truly am tired, so it's bath time, get the dirt from under my nails, might even do my nails and hair ready for tomorrow and call it a night...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Hi yall, see Liz I was remembering when I was talking about you and the vermin/critters. The raccoons that eat your fish.

Things are coming ok in the garden but not well established at all except the wild flowers are going mad. It looks so different from last year and I will post but am waiting for the roses to all bloom and then I will take pictures. It is nothing compared to you guys yards. Still improvement breeds hope for a couple of years from now to see a mass transformation. If we are still here in this house.

I went to church, then to breakfast w/dd and her h, then to look at baby stuff at Target and then I shopped for food. That was it, watched Nascar and went in the spa, about a day so I will probably scoot soon.

I don't post so late but I am 2 or 3 hours behind you guys.
Was 90 today and a bit muggy for here.

Glenview, IL

Ahh thats right..Keep forgetting time, sort of erelavant to me...
Only because everything I do seems to be on a time schedual...which well, haha passes time.

Today was awsom! I did everything and everything. Worked in the gardens, continued to clean, pick up, put away..laundry and WHOWAH!!! Put the roof on mini house>> so excting..big smiles looks great too. and that isn't even my best.

Today..took a deep breath, consulted with neighbor who raises Gorgeous Roses, and Transplanted my beautiful Joseph'Coat Rose.
..Please please help me cheer him on... As plendid 9 waves the first year, then a huge house went up and blocked all sun. Thought he was dead BUT in the fall a new shoot went up! So today I thought while Spring is still early, dug em up and baby shoot in the ground, plenty of sun and shade...sooo I really hope JC makes it...Taboo on the deer(only for this beauty) Dine on Hosta, hahah.

Worst... well I have none..cool!

What did I learn...hahahahhhaaa, I am no Bob villa at all! I had lots of fun though. Finally put the roof on mini house. Was laughing the entire time. As I banged, had to keep adjusting the other side back into place! But hey roof is on and little house looks neat in the yard...
woohoo, next Facia?? oh good gosh, have no idea but will have fun learning. Windows too!

Well been up forever today so ...Good night all

Sleep well! I will for sure.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I have one too that is blooming and I love it. The rose you sent me is just sitting there green w/ no leaves so I don't know if it is going to make it, I don't know why either, but it is still alive. I will B1 it some more and maybe give it a shot of peroxide. I fertilized it too.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Hi all...
It's nice to be remembered! i am in tech rehearsals for a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, which i am the assistant lighting designer for. It has been very hectic. It is my 3rd show in a row, and the LD is my DH, so we are both a little crazed right now. But we do good work together i think. (This one is at the university he teaches at.) But the girl playing Hermia fell onstage yesterday afternoon and dislocated her knee - ambulance, hospital, etc... She still wants to do the show, but it is VERY physical - lots of fighing, wrestling, jumping, swinging on ropes, etc. The director is spending all day tomorrow rehearsing with an understudy. It's upsetting. i've known this girl since we moved to CT - she is a grad student now, and doesn't do that much theatre anymore - but she is great, and no role could be more perfect for her, "Although she is but little, she is fierce"!
i haven't even had more than 15 minutes at a time in the garden since Wednesday... Well, this one opens on Tuesday - then i get to start worrying because i don't know what is next.
Well, it is late, and i am beat, so:
"The iron tongue of midnight hath told twelve
Lovers to bed - tis almost fairy time..."

Amy, that's terrible, to study so much and want the part and do well at it only for a mishap to happen..that's tragic isn't it..hard to swing the garden, housework and the play all in one..and yes, we do miss you...is the understudy capable of pulling it off? Changes like that don't happen often do they?

Dawn, sounds as though you are getting into the 'grandma' role ... Suzanne that I travel with will be a first time grandma I believe in August...she's just so excited..purchasing things each week so that when the shower comes she'll have loads to give..Aunt Betty better start thinking of something to make that will be original...lol
Dawn, I have the same feelings of my garden, Bernice across the street has a mature garden and it is so inviting and the plants are mega healthy, here it's the start of my 3rd year and I'll see improvements this year but I want the 20 year old garden look 'today' not going to happen..

Judy, you haven't worked on your miniature village for quite some time, you must be feeling better...facia, now that will be a challenge... you'll have to take photo and perhaps we all can come up with something..

Nice that it's Monday, we also get an extended lunch..taking the boss (BIL) out for his birthday at a buffet..so the day should pass fairly well..think Kim (SIL) moms' burial will be Thursday so because it's in the city I will take part of the day off...then 1/2 day Friday so all and all the week should pass quickly..Darlene called me last night and said that Eric asked if we girls could come over Sat. or Sun. to go over all the painting books/paints/wood pieces that Carol (died last fall) had...he's mentioned it before and I've put it off..so they decided to call Eric and see if we can do it this weekend..yuk..she was such a beautiful lady-got sick/brain tumour and died within weeks...think Eric is cleaning out as he would like to move closer to his family...Carol and I last fall had done zillions of cement rhubbarb leaves for her garden which was a showplace..don't think Eric has kept it up..so sad to see these things happen...

It's raining here this morning, it was much needed..fire warning still in effect...watching the news I saw that California had a big fire going once again, Dawn are you or Liz near this area..sure hope not..you all have fires like we have blizzards..let's hope that the snow they are calling for this week doesn't come...

Well, better go get that coffe, get dressed, clean the craft room a bit for the girls that are coming today..George (painter) is still in the hospital..not faring well so it will just be the girls..Sailor will be happy, they spend half their time playing with her..lol

Talk when I get to the office...

morning all,

dawn, had animal control out yesterday no not on me lol!!!
next door neighbors have a med size chihuahua and daisey had one cornered in the back yard and it had its back arched up thank god carmen was able to make it leave and shoo it over the fence.
but animal control just finished telling us a lady just at the end of the street had a issue with them.
they had distemper went in through the cat door used her hallway for a restroom tore up her bathroom guess he got them but said to look out for any sick ones...

you know i was telling judy i would never make a good criminal lol, so i proceed to tell him about the two week ago episode where i was hitting him on the head he looked at me said DO NOT TELL ME THIS!ii told him ya i know who you are.. but i will do it again and again to protect my dogs, at that my neighbor was agreeing with me telling him your not here when their threatning our animals were going to protect ours first.
she also told him the last three weeks have been a big problem with them said cant they be re- located he jumped on both of us to say do not ever relocate any wild animal fish and game will fine you he said it is a felony and to call them for a sick animal they will trap it.
ya right they come days after the fact! he then told us that this has been proven true
to soak rags in ammonia and place them on the fence in the racoons path they dont like the smell of it, so last night the neighbors were putting rags all over the fence so we will see, i told him why are they as huge as dogs out here, he said they eat quite well out here people leave cat and dog food outside and all the trash cans they get into, there living very good, judy has some mini breed out at her place lol
crossing fingers for the rose.

amy, wow what a busy scheduel you have hope you can fit some relaxing time in there.

Morning all. Posting from work as we have taken the home PC in to be "cleaned". I tried to talk DH into a new one but he was like 'no go'. Already having withdrawls at home!! I can't believe we can become so dependent on a computer! Luckily, I have my work one which I can use at home too. Just can't play on the fun game sites. Anyway, posting may be light for the next few days. Hopefully, we will get the CPU back by the weekend and it will run faster with the cleaning and new RAM installed. I have no patience for slow computers! Especially when we have cable and that's supposed to be so much quicker. I think we are going to look into switching to Verizon's FiOS service. I've heard that is lightning fast and cheaper!

Oh well, back to work. Hugs to all!!

For anyone interested - the Norfolk Botanical Gardens' resident eagles have hatched a eaglet this weekend. This eagle "couple' has had a rough going this season, losing 4 eggs prior to this single one. Hopefully, their attentiveness will repeat itself as in past clutches.

Thanks Jeannine, will go check out the link...so funny, they were talking about text messaging on the news this morning, were saying they had a loneliness phobia and had to be in constant contact with human chit/chat...lol

Vicki..guess who travelled towork in snow as well...shucks, will it never end..

When I first left home this morning it was raining, not snowing and I tried to put Sailor out and she wouldn't go out, so not to worry the girls were coming over to paint today, not, Darlene just called me and said she had a terrible night so cancelled painting..yuk you know what I'm coming home to..my fault though..

Liz, you didn't tell that story to the agent..lol..people hasve been hung for less..had a photo of the birdcage holding your birdhouse and I must have forgotten to include it..

Crozet, VA

Hey There Everyone - You folks sure do have a lot of varmints living in your areas. I thought I would be the one seeing all of the wildlife and stuff, because I live in a very rural setting. The Ranger must have been on to something and you folks feed them better than we do. ha-ha

I went back to sleep this morning and am just now rousing. I have a sink full of dirty dishes and a counter full of mail to go through. There are beans on the stove waiting for me to cook so that I can fix my famous chili. Good day for it with the rain and chilliness that we are having today. The rain is good for the seeds that I sowed in flower beds yesterday though. I tell you with all the rain we have had recently my gardens are just taking off to beat the band.

Judy, if you have some spare time, try going over the Compost and Soil Forum on here. I haven't been reading for a while, but sometimes they get hilarious over there. I was thrilled yesterday when I picked up a stick and began poking around in the new compost pile that at this point is mainly grass clippings. John finally bought a mower with a bagger and we have mowed either three or four times so far. While poking around I was rewarded with what every composter wants to see.....smoke/steam rising from the hot process that it goes through in order to decay. You will learn about greens and browns and which is nitrogen and which is carbon and what they do. I have cut down considerably on the amount of trash that gets thrown away here. I now shred all cardboard boxes and non glossy junk mail. Any kitchen scrap other than meat or dairy can be added to the mix. I use the dryer lint leftovers and dog hair from the vacuum. This is all added along with anything dead plant wise.

Well, I need to get up and tend to the kitchen chores. And no Betty, didn't see little Emily yesterday. Had planned to go today but it is raining too hard for me to drive over the mountain that I need to cross to visit them. It gets so foggy up there sometimes that you can't see two feet in front of you. I will try to go either tomorrow or Wednesday.

I hope that everyone will have a good day. Take care friends.

Hi...Busy morning today.

OHHH, Ves and Betty..what a bummer to see snow again. Well lets just hope it is the last squeeze. Maybe it will melt quickly, on happier thought, all that water is good for grounds and and plants. It is rainy and cold here today. Got to work so I don't mind, my baby rose needs a good soaking.

I took a picture of Mini house this morning, with my phone..i got to admit takes a decent picture.

Ruby thank you I will check out the composting forum..Wohhoo, Great yours is cooking! Maybe this weekend i will be able to add to grass cuttings..We haven't done our first yet so Maybe thats what I need to jump start the process, it all leaves and twigs right now. Hmmm, didn't know lint could be added, thanks.

Well lunch is already over, This day is flying by..
Here is the house.

Judy, little gnomes look happy in their surroundings..now tell me again, know you did last year, do these miniatures represent buildings i.e. family memories etc.? Saw composters at Costco last week, they seemed reasonably priced AND were quite a size...I really should be learning the basic principles and stop procrastinating...treat Mother Nature with kindness right?

Had a wonderful lunch at the Mandarin, of course their age for senior is 65 and they all insisted that I was a sr. so what to heck..if it saves a few $$$ it's ok..they did a group photo, first one they took you could not see me, I'm just too short so had to take another..Paul got a kick out of that..
Got back 5 minutes late and 5 people were waiting in the hallway..we had put a note on the door so it wasn't too bad..with rain the traffic didn't move as quickly..never late when you are with the boss right?

Ruby, my seeds most likely are at the Post Office however, on Friday with getting a perm and cut and the works (much needed) the post office was closed when I got home, then Sat. leaving the house at 7am and not getting back until 2 or so it was closed..no chance of getting there before Friday..can't wait to get mine seeds..my seedlings are getting long and leggy..have to do something with them or I'll loose them..I've been many times in the Virginia mountains and the fog was so thick we just had to sit on one of the truck ramps...better you stay home than take a chance..each and everytime you must see big differency in Emily...so cute at that age...sure wish I had a grandaughter? what fun we could have...

I did go once to be a big sister but there were so many rules/regulations that I gave up taking it on...the object was to be there for these young children but NOT spoil them to bits and make them go back into their lifestyle..well to me, what's the purpose..I wanted to SPOIL....so opted to get those 4 grandsons and spoil the dickens out of them..

You must have needed the rest to have slept in beyond noon..work can always be done later..not to fret..

Crozet, VA

Judy, I like the gnomes too. I think they are so cute. There are all sorts of things that people put in their compost piles that a person wouldn't think of using. John confiscated my bag of dog hair earlier before it got to compost bin. He is going to spread it around his day lilies in hopes that it deters deer from eating all the blooms when they come.

Betty, my mother drove the Afton Mountain for 47 years working at Du Pont and Company. She loved that place so much and they were really, really good to her too. My dad was a professional truck driver and there were some snowy times that he would take her in. She would have never thought of missing a day's work for anything. I am surprised she didn't deliver my brother and myself while at work. ha-ha

I am signng off for the day. Got to go and eat a bowl of chili and snuggle in for the evening. It has finally stopped raining, but it left things feeling a bit chilly. Have a good evening all.

Ruby

morning all

was at work only an hour and a migraine hit. had a needle in the butt and off to bed... slpet all day and night and here i am! good today tho.

not sure what i want for my birthday, they keep asking me tho. remember when i posted a pic of my little white dog lucy? i saw a lady that painted them once... i think i told you, that would have been great!
i like crustals that hang in the window and glass things as you know so they could get those....ummmmmmmmm i have agold charm bracelet too. so they could buy me a charm to go on it....
i also saw something called a pandora braclet... have u seen them? they are gorgeous!! you can get them in silver or gold or a combination of the two ... they have these special charms that go on them and they go upto a 23 cm in length which is great! you need that length to accomodate the charms... im usually 21 cm on the wrist and they are hard enough to get! big size in anything is hard to get.
i dont know.... as you say, just having them around will be great!

well must get ready for work...

chat later...

hugs to you all

xx

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry to hear you are not well again Laura, have you had a complete physical, trying to see if you have some chemicals off balance??? know about the migraines..girls from work or DH would get me to the hospital, a shot and it was night/night for an entire day, then I wouldn't get them for months..then in the states I found Excedrin Migraine..as soon as I start to get one, I take 2 pills, sit for 1/2 hr. (yes I can sit for that long..lol) and I virtually can feel it leave...GS Kyle gets them as well and I gave him a jar, he takes it and he says it's the only thing that helps him as well..cannot purchase them here, but in good old USA they sell them over the counter...I remember you posting, but so long ago, what type was your doggy???I didn't make it to post office on Friday Laura for them to let me know what they found out about the package of blouses I sent..this Friday for sure I'll be there...sounds as though you do have several gift items in mind..let's hope you get one or two of them..you deserve them..everyone should be spoilt on their birthday..know I was several times..all your kindness made the best birthday ever...I still can't stop talking about it...

Gita, where have you been, need help with these seedlings..getting big and some are getting leggy, need to know what my next step is..???

Ruby what's the main highway near you? love going through those mountains, used to take Virginia and West Virginia route for it's beauty to go to Florida then I caught a terrible storm or two and that did me in..mountains are just tooo dangerous....

Well, time to relax, get my outdoor plants I purchased brought in so I don't loose them tonight, have my bath and try to stay awake for "dancing with the stars"...could always paint a bit on the back shed faux window panels, that might keep me awake for an hour or so...

Will try to get back before morning..do hope you've all enjoyed your day...

Best of today...great birthday lunch - all staff and Paul
Worse of today..SIL Linda (also my cousin) said she had tried to reach me Sunday so she could go to Meaford with Sharon and I..would have been great outing...
What did I learn today...Paul isn't as smart as he thought he was, I also gave him a 9 piece puzzle - golfers and off and on he worked on it, couldn't get it together..lol..so there, his putting my rose pattern puzzle together was just a 'fluke'...

(Cathy), MO

Hi everyone. I've been MIA awhile. Running around like a crazy person, as usual. We are supposed to get down to freezing again tonight here. I have so many plants I want to get outside but just can't yet. Is winter EVER going to be over this year???

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Betty--

How would i know you need help with seedlings unless you ask me???????

I already told you that your seedlings are too leggy--due to a lack of light. Remember? Then I felt bad as i was being too "blunt"......

Please--put them under some kind of strong light--even if it is a table lamp--except they put out too much heat..... Do you have a 4' shop light you could lower down on top of them? OR--Raise the seedlings UP to just under the lights--, maybe put the trays on top of boxes--or something......
Believe me--weak, leggy seedlings will never make it to healthy plants!!!! You MUST do the correct light/seedling set-up to get them to grow right. Please go to any post by "critterologist" (jill) and click on any one of her 5 articles she has written about growing from seed--all the set-ups. all the problems one could encounter, etc....

From what you have written--you are weeks away from putting anything outside yet.

hello

this is my beloved lucy whom not a day goes by that i dont miss.
she meant the world to me.... its a bit fuzzy but you get the idea. she was a maltese/shitzu dog and 14 years old when i had to have her put down. sigh.

i cant imagine where your parcel went betty, im so sorry.
i was thinking the other of all the lovely things y ou have sent me and that i havnt mentioned that i have been trying the glass cutting but oh boy i really dont have the knack. still trying tho!
also i was thinking about that gorgous gazebo bird house u did, how cool would it look with two stained glass windows in it!! hahah too cool.

did i ask u if u could send the pattern for that? i cant rmember, i have someone who will make it for me if i can get the pattern of templates.

so a busy day today and off to craft tomight...

Is fuzzy Laura, but adorable..family pets take time to get over just as you mourn for members of the family!
I'll go back over the posts Laura where we did the birdhouse, instructions were there, explained the sizes to cut each piece of wood and putting it together...will D-mail it to you..glad you are feeling better...don't let the work situation get to you..makes you 'deathly ill' and to what purpose...

Gita, takes awhile for this old gal to take things in...they have a little greenhouse on sale imagine it's for indoors but could start putting these trays in it on the outside deck, covered with plastic so maybe I'll stop in tonight and pick one up, that might help...I've transplanted a few..guess the ones that are most leggy really are the sunflowers, the vines and the morning glories...I'll go back and read the posts..

Cat..glad to have you home, as with all family members when not in contact we worry! Spring is a time when everyone is busy/busy..
Well must go..Suzanne just called...

Morning all,
I woke up early this morning. So here I am with my first coffee. I have been reading along with all your posts..and enjoying.
It is 0c..but the sun looks like it wants to shine today after our rain yesterday.
I'll drag my seedlings out of the garage when it warms up.
Betty vines and MG's will look so pretty growing around the birdhouse Liz sent. I do hope your seedlings will survive..

Our last frost date is always the 24th of May....but I usually push it. Betty is the last frost date the same for you up there?
Gita..have you planted all your seedlings out yet? How are your roses? I am thrilled to see little leaves popping out on mine. Especially the Explorer rose Henry Hudson I planted last year..it has really leafed out.

My Toronto tulips are in full bloom. More have opened since I took this photo.
I have another clump pf tulips about to open in the back. They will be yellow.
I don't have a lot of spring bulbs. Just three clumps of tulips and and two clumps of Ice Follies Daffodils.

I have many painting projects to do..mostly furniture..I have to paint my little wrought iron bistro set..it has always been white..but I have decided to do it a dark green this year..I need to repaint my white wicker rocker and table. and also another set of furniture..I have two milk cans that need repainting too.
This time of year is so busy..and I feel like I want everything done ASAP.

My iris and daylillies are growing like crazy..

I bought two new Hostas to add to my collection. I buy a few each year and I think I have about 55 different ones now planted out under the apple trees in the Secret Garden.

Enjoy your day everyone..
Cheers,
Carol
