Great photos and flowers!!!
Tropical garden #9
I did get to visit Rita's garden and am very impressed. This is the best private garden I have ever seen. The number of specimens and the size of some of them is unbelievable. Very beautiful place Rita. I cannot imagine how it will be in a month or so when everything has matured and blooming.
Thank you for the tour.

Hope the MG trees do great and know they will with the care you give your plants.
Thanks for the name of that vine Dutchlady. If the vine gets huge, then it must have found my garden on purpose! Seems like everything that lands there grows to that proportion.
Rita, believe it or not Wayne and I went to Caldwells nursery and got them.
The morning glory tree Randy brought here has lots of new growth. Mitch says I will have to dig it and take it in this winter. Randy, I have it to the southside of the raised bed in full sun. Bet it is used to shade.

Mine is in full sun in front. I think that one was in the afternoon sun here along the driveway.
Looking just now and it is still in the sun. Guess that makes it pretty much allday.
Has new growth so guess it is happy.
The pink MG tree has returned in the ground for me. It is slow but returns. The purple one is rare and does not return. Both are easy to root from cuttings similar to brugs. They can take the full sun of Texas, growing to about 6' in a season. Also easy to get to grow from seed which are odd looking fuzzy looking. I have had the pink reseed itself sometimes. Neat plant.
Rita, in your garden they will thrive.

So, Randy. What do I have? pink or purple? Beginning to feel like maybe I should get a big pot and get it in it before it has established too much of a root system in the ground.
Christi
Hey, babe. Should I just leave it in the ground or would you repot now in anticipation of winter? My itty bitty greenhouse is already getting full with anticipation of fall.
LouC
I would leave it in the ground for the summer.
tkx.
podster, I am glad that you came out of the Tropical closet. I have a few succulents already. However, I do not know their names.
I have a gloriosa greenii that is about 2 ft. tall. I saw your beautiful gloriosa lily on the vines and climbers forum. Perhaps you can give me a few pointers when needed, this is my second try at growing these vines.
When purple gets big enough, save me a cutting...they are easy from cuttings.
I gave Mitch a cutting of the tree you gifted me, Randy. He was so excited. He has only 4 more weeks as a Texan. He really wanted to see Rita's world before he left for Oklahoma.
G greenii is not one I am familiar with... but love the Gloriosas.
Somehow, I don't think you will have any trouble with them! 8 ))
Pod, every single seed you sent has germinated. YAY!
miss ashleykelly, How is your garden coming along so far? Nice picture of one of my favorites alacasia hilo beauty. I only had one of mine to return this year and am trying to replace them. What is the other plant in the picture?
I have planted gloriosa lily seeds several times before without any luck . Then I tried the greenii tubers which are up and running.. I will keep you updated on their progress, maybe we will have blooms this year.
I would love to get some tips on growing gloriosa tubers too! I just received 2 from Onalee's...
Thanks Rita,
the blue sage looks great even when it's not blooming. I think mine went to seed big time. I'm watching them carefully..they have lots of seed pod looking things on top. I've not seen them do that before.
Nice Hilos Ashley...I just got 10 of them last night in the mail..have alot of planting to do this weekend...
Summer started today..92F arghhhh...
LouC ~ ALL the seeds sprouted? I may have to duck before season is over. You will be throwing pots and shovels at me... LOL
Placenciarita ~ I just looked up the G. greenii ~ a very pretty vine. Did you say this is your second try? What happened before?
Right now, they are about 12 to 18 inches and climbing. The blooms should begin in a month or so. Other than potted plant culture, I've no experience growing them in ground. In this zone, they are hardy. I offer no protection to the pot. I don't know what to tell you and Ashleykelly other than patience and persistance. They are worth the wait.
If you have a minute and are interested, this is my journal entry. http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/viewentry/110183/
I just found the G. superba for sale in DG classifieds. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/844542/ Hmmmm...
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, to all the mothers today, may you have lots of blooms.
podster, thank you for all the information on the gloriosa lily. After reading your journal, I will not be so worried about it but I hate having to wait 3 years for blooms.
Here is my mothers' day present, my Ice cream banana plant has put out a flag leaf which means that I will be getting the best tasting bananas in ???? time.
Same to you Rita!!!
Happy Mother's Day to all.
What a yummy gift : )
