What a cool shot. I guess I'll start looking more closely.....

Naples, FL(Zone 10b)

Hetty, (dutchlady)
those zamias leaves I started for you are now rooted. I think you also wanted a Thia Crown of thorns? I have both and you can come by anytime.

Fred

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

DD, here a pic of my Farfugium for you! It is indeed pretty! Loves water. You were asking on getting BOP to flower...I think they like more water than most people think. I used to have one at my old place...

dutchlady, it actually smells a bit, if you get a few flowers close together. lightly floral. if you do go looking, dont forget that if you find it on the ground, it probably has redbugs in it (aka chiggers)

Red Oak, TX

diehrdsouthrnr, I really did not know that spanish moss blooms. I would like to find other flowers with that color bloom. Thank you for showing it to us.

First bloom on my Rangoon Creeper, I bet they are already blooming in Houston.

Die Hard, I have never seen Spainish Moss bloom, very interesting. Let us know if you see seed pods.

Rita, where do you have room for all these plants, yikes!

no problem. there are a few billbergia that have green flowers with navy blue stripes or dots
here's a pic of a billbergia fixin to bloom in december. the inflorescence has pink bracts or cover-upper things. i dont have a pic of the actual flowers, but they looked like the spanish moss, but bigger, and had a navy blue dot at the tips of each petal.

dale, the seed pods are much easier to spot. they are long greenish brown bean-like things that form over the summer and open in the late summer-fall and into winter to reveal fluffy seeds like milkweed seeds, that fly on the breeze. the little filaments that help them fly easily grab onto bark and twigs and branches, as well as any pole (wood), and sometimes chain link fences. when the rain comes, the filaments get pushed and settled in the grooves of the surface, anchoring the seed to the surface even more. it then sends out small little roots for support which wrap around any irregularity or bump that they can find. once this has happened, it begins to grow. the same is true for ball moss, and any other tillandsia, and probably most other bromeliads

Dale,
now THAT is pretty - a mass of flowers. How do you keep the weeds out of there? Are the verbena new or old?
fred

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Beautiful flowers!!!

Louc, it's a Heurnia.

Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

Fred, all the above are in containers at the nursery. In the upper right corner of the gaillardia you can see the weed cloth.

They had this coleus, so I bought a tray. Pink Bellengarth, an old favorite.

Oh, that explains it. I've tried perennials like that and it's a constant hassle with the weeds wanting to rule. I think my air around here must be full of weed seeds. :-0

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

There ya'll are.. Gardens are looking good!
Big Leaves, I had brought up one of those snow bank shrubs for you, but I didn't know where or who to leave it with. Next time mabe.

Your right Rita- Rangoon is blooming away.

I've been so busy, people coming and going, packing and sending out plants.
Already have been plucking, cutting, trimming and thinning things out.

This Hawaiin vine really puts out a showy flower. I'm hoping it will grow large as I'd like to see about 20 flowers at a time..that should be something. It definately is the year of the vine here, must be just right conditions as they are all doing better than usual.

Sorry, Leaves. The plant is thriving in my garden.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Randy, that is showy! Just beautiful!!!!!! Love it! Where did you get that one?

This vine is Stictocardia Beraviensis and will get HUGE - ENORMOUS - I have to cut mine back at least twice a week or it will overwhelm my entire property.
But it is gorgeous and well worth the effort.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Dutchlady, can you root from a cutting? if so I would love a cutting or two.

Beautiful pictures, and interesting new plants. WOW, I love them all .
dale_a_gardener, I have room for lots more plants as I do some ladder gardening. I have quite a few hanging baskets.
These are quite scraggly right now, just out of the greenhouse. In a few months they will be beautiful.

sunshinesw, love all your pictures, you must have a beautiful yard. I especially like the yellow plumeria pictures with the variegated philo, queen palm and the clerodendrum in the background. Good eye candy.
your lifesaver twin plant is new to me, it's very unusual and interesting plant

Hey Rj, I thought that you might have gone on another vacation. Do you think that I could find the Hawaiian vine at Zone 9,? It is a very pretty flower.
DdeTex came to visit and brought me two morning glory trees, I am a happy gardener.
I made my container area a little bigger this year, still working on it.

I have been enjoying watching y'alls gorgeous blooms. Guess I'm a tropical closet gardener.

Placenciarita & LouC ~ be very careful. The "lifesaver" is so named as you will be sinking into a new obsession! Succulents! LOL

The Huernias, Orbeas, Carallumas and Stapelias can be way too addictive!!!
