Central Texas Near I-45 Trade List for June 8th RU

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Phyllis I am not sure, but I think the female eats the male after mating, am I right?

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

yep that's the just of it ...she bites his head off ....hahahahahaha....

give ya a whole new meaning when someone says gee ya don't have to bite my head off?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Praying_mantis

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Gee, now I know what to do when my DH bites my head off for some little infraction of "his" rules. I will quickly step into a phone booth and put on my praying mantis costume and ...... Only gee, my DH is such a sweety, he NEVER bites my head off!! yeah, sure, just don't use his brush LOL

Adding two Buffy's doll daylilies to my list and one Zagora. Who knows what will show it's pretty self next. Both of these are beauties and both are rebloomers and are supposed to be mid-season. I guess, they don't keep up with the seasons because they are both blooming now.

Charlene

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Josephine, the phlox I have is an annual. It must self seed readily because it comes back every year. I dug some and planted them and they are blooming again, so I will have seeds there for returning next year. If anyone else wants some, I'll pot them up for you.

I figure the gentian will do the same maybe.

I got some black-eyed susan and some that look the same, but have cones. My book shows coneflowers with the petals pointing downward. These look just like the black-eye susans except for the cones.

I found one Mexican hat bush. That is the first time I have found any of these and they are very pretty.

I also gathered some garden coreopsis. I haven't heard them called that before, but that is what the wildflower guide says they are.

I have a few more plants gathered, but it is too cloudy to get a good picture and I am not quite knowledgable enough to know how to correct the lighting with my camera. Now, they look rather ratty due to rain and shock, so I guess that will make me wait awhile on id for them.

I have the Audabon wildflower guides for east and west (I am in the middle). I can't find several of the things there.

Also, I found a patch of Texas Betany and have potted up some of that if anyone needs it that didn't get it elsewhere already.

While I was on my wildflower hunt, I found two rose bushes growing along the road. They were too big to pull up and I was too tired to dig for a rooted piece. ONe was pink and one was white. They are sprawling and full of blooms. I have seen other ones around this area before. Who knows? They could be from my grandmother's flowers as she moved from here in 1940.

Josephine, DH would love a hackberry tree if you have one left. Also, the asters that you have are beautiful, do you have any of them to spare?

Charlene

Charlene was the white rose you found a small flowered (five petaled) arching shrub?

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

I think there were more than five petals. I will drive by it tomorrow and try to get a photo for you. It was climbing up a tree and sprawling everywhere.

Charlene

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Charlene... I really hate to sound greedy... BUT ...LOL.. you know I will want a Buffy's doll dls!!
You know .. I have one of those "he-man" DH's too... maybe I need to find a costume too..

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

charlene I would love a buffy's doll daylily too!

beck...gotcha down for the bouganvilla.

:) Kim

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I can add Dill and Parsley to my list that I can dig up ..I started them this year and have plenty plus I have some seeds for Thyme, Rosemary and true lavender
And can bring cuttings from spicy globe basil, thai basil, oregano, cilantro and spearmint that can be used for cooking or dried
and I could dig up some swiss chard
I am also going to divide the day lilies...they have not bloomed and I see no signs of them getting ready to either so I am pretty sure they need to be divided to get them to bloom again since I have no idea how long they have been there or who planted them to start with.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Gotcha Kim.

I may get more to bloom and identify before the RU. I will list if I do get them.

Charlene

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Kim!!

Mibus.. I would love some dill and DAYLILLIES !!! PLEASE!!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

dill.........i want some dill. i will take as much as you don't give away. i bought some and got some at the CS round-up and i guess slugs ate them up. but the swallowtails must have it. these will go in pots.

debnes or sheila..........on black swallowtails....are there some that only want fennel and some that only want dill? my dill cats last year didn't seem to like fennel at all.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

beck and mama got ya both down for them no problem

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Blue eyes
if no one asked and you still have some
i would gladly take a duranta, cannas and wil Mexican heather make it in my area?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

O.K. Charlene, you have the Hackberry tree.
I am also adding a Broom tree, Baccharis neglecta in a gallon pot to my list.

Josephine.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Mama..... The thing is when the Black Swallowtail eggs are laid on dill, fennel, and parsley that is what they want to feed on. In other words, they WANT to eat what THEIR Mama told them to!
You can get the first instar sometime and put them on Parsley and they will eventually eat it, but it is harder in the older they are. Plus, I have better luck in raising Parsley and if I have to buy some when I run out it is way cheaper than fennel or dill.
What I want to find is some Citrus trees for the Giant Swallowtails. I am getting some Hercules Club from Sweezel already. My Rue plants won't be enough for the season for the "red dog" cats.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

what's a red dog? i had cats of every kind out the wazoo last year. never saw anything like it.

Mibus, the mexican heather isn't a true perennial here. It's worth getting tho. It will bloom all Summer and take the heat.Depending on how cold it gets, sometimes I have to replace it, sometimes I don't... Go for it;)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Charlene I have one pot of Fall asters, that I ma saving for you.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Josephine, you are a sweetheart. Thank you very much.
Charlene

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Sorry Mama that is "orange dog" the caterpillar of the Great Swallowtail. http://members.tripod.com/melanys/butterfly.htm Click on the GST and read the text. Sorry I hijacked the thread.
As soon as I am officially retired I will get more excited about the Buffalo RU. I haven't had much time to work in the yard and see what else is ready. My DH has to have a treatment in the am and again in the evening right now. Hopefully it will get him to full recovery soon, or at the least take the pain away.

Hey Ya'll

I am adding 4 passies to my list. It was getting dark when I dug them tonight, and hoping I got the roots ..lol I was digging in gumbo.. hard as concrete!! One plant had one flower, so I will try to identify by that.. It is somewhere between "Impertrice Eugenie" and "Byron Beauty" and the pic by cwpappas shows the truest colors more than any others. Hope this helps more than confuses..lol
Somebody mowed over some of them and the bugs.. butterflies have had a feild day on the leaves, but I will take them off anyway. The newer leaves looked fine... Any takers??

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1556/

here's the empress.

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1196/
here's byron beauty.

now which picture looks the closest?

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i checked both of the plant file entries beck and i don't see this cwpappas on either of them.

but i want one whichever one it is. lol.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Another nightowl here wanting a passie please.

Charlene

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i'm baaaaaaaaaaach!! just checking to see if anyone had figured out your passies beck. maybe by this afternoon we'll know which it is.

charlene, how are you? it won't be long now. i am getting my plants together or at least trying to between the rainy spells.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

just found these..........white cleome seedlings. have a gazillion. anybody need these?

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Mornin,
Ol' greedy gut here... ME mama.. please??..lol
The first link is the Eugenie.. not empress, and the reason I listed that one is that the petals are more purpleish every other petal, like Eugenie.... sorry I didn't see "empress" anywhere.
On the Byron Beauty.. I listed that one because the little "frilly" things that stick out all around the "circle" on top of the petals, are more frilly like Byron, instead of straight like Eugenie... and the pic from cwpappas ?? I don't know which one I got that one off of now..lol I did have to look into all the pics tho.. the color is more rosey purple closer to the center of the flower and purplish on the "frilly things"... See why I need to KNOW what I am talking about on the ID??? LOL

Got you down Charlene!!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Charlene

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes Charlene the rose leaf salvia is yours.
I thought you had the Delphiniums planted in the ground, and I don't think moving them again would do them good, maybe when they multiply for you, I can get some.
I will check your list and see if there might be something I need.
Josephine.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

I have one in a pot. Would you like that one?
Charlene

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)
