Too big - look at the next one instead!

What have you bought so far?? Pt.5
that's impressive
Thanks - especially when you have to scroll down for 5 seconds to see the bottom!
I feel like I've been ripped off...lol. I'm going to "have to" order from Fairweather. This whole Klehm's thing has me really irritated! More so than the jumbled Buried Treasure order...atleast they did something. Klehm's, who knows...I feel like sending the 2 things back. I'm going to check what their return policy is.
Wonderful viburnum Victor!! What kind is it?
Thanks. It's V. carlcephalum.
Thanks Patti & Victor for the dry shade plant lists--I do have some epimidiums, now just 1 brunnera, hostas, astilbe, at least 1 fern, bleeding hearts, & surprisingly, evening primrose that my neighbor gave to me--it blooms well, but does not spread. There is also some lungwort. The only pkg. I received was from LL bean containing a gigantic dog bed--guess I did not measure correctly--definately could be used as a mattress by my granddaughters! Anyway, it's for the dale--the pointer keeps chewing up his beds--never hers! Can't wait for more plants to come, but I will be busy putting in the cold weather veggies on Sat.
Thom - returning the two plants that are troublesome (to say the least) seems the best thing to do. Then they could investigate the "worms" (or whatever they are) for themselves. You should get a big refund on shipping as well as a refund for the plants. Be sure to ask them who pays for the return.
schickenlady, just had to say that song brought back a lot of memories, if it's the one I'm thinking, late 60s. Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood, strawberries, cherries and an angels kiss in spring.
I haven't heard that in many, many years.
Thom, that's very sad. Klehms has such a good rep, too.
Thom - can you get a "John Peed" caladium to go with "Cole's Prostrate" plant?
My Bluestone order arrived too. Plants all look good and as expected small. All are healthy and growing with the exception of the eupatorium 'Gateway' which is still dormant. Now to find a place for all of them.
Thom that is a shame about your order. I agree you should call them about a refund for the two plants with "bugs". We have enough of our own here in the northeast without having more shipped in from other parts of the country.
I'll be calling them this afternoon. I was talking to another plant person at work last night, and she was spitting out curses, she ordered from them too. I hope she has better luck than I did.
It's the reason I placed the order with them. They have such a good rep, but, I hate to say this, but it sounds sort of "Heronswoody" to me. Was a great place, maybe not so much anymore...or maybe they thought that sending me their catalog for 3 years, and this is my first order, to say, "PLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!" lol
And I agree about the bugs, we definitely have enough here without mixing other bugs with our natives...if native can still be used.
My dahlias btw, are WAY out of control...lol.
You did pinch your dahlias, Thom, didn't you? It's not too late to do it. Pinch at the second set of true leaves for the shorter ones, the third set of leaves for the huge ones.
Thom, I agree with pirl, send them back. Let them eat worms!
I just got another box from Brent and Becky. A hippeastrum that was on sale, 'Mont Blanc' For containers 5 Caladium 'Moonlight' and 10 ornithogalum thyrsoides 'Alaska'. For my stream area 2 Sprianthes Cerbua V. Odo' Chadd's Ford', and 5 Astible 'Obergartner Jurgens'. Then I got 10 Crococmia 'Meteore' ,10 C.masonorum, Eryngium Alpinum 'Blue Star', 2 Penstemon 'Red Riding Hood' and a Hypericum 'Brigadoon' And nary a worm.
I get to go to the nursery today and pick up a couple of things. One is a Caryopteris x clandonensis 'First Choice' but I will report my indulgences later.
Patti, I bought Hypericum 'Brigadoon' last year and love it! The color is very bright and cheerful and is a great contrast to all the green in the garden.
Ok...gonna go pinch now...b/c I did not...lol.
You are a pearl of wisdom ;-)
I tried Brigadoon as a ground cover a few years back - planted many. Not a single one returned the next spring. Hope you have better luck!
My sister sang in 'Brigadoon' in high school.
Me, lately I'm singing nursery rhymes. My particular favorite: "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary"
A B'way revival of Brigadoon is coming next year.

Hello, My name is Abby J and it has been almost 24 hours since I bought any plants! I have a problem. Whether I am getting painted ferns from my new favorite nursery (Michael's in Mt Kisco, NY) or special alpine plants from my all time favorite (Oliver Nursery in Fairfield, CT) or 'rescuing' plants from Home Depot as soon as they get off the truck. I just can't seem to get enough! I bought 10 red lantern columbines yesterday (three small plants per pot) and put them in. I could use about a hundred more, some white columbines for my moon garden, also a couple korean spice viburnum, YUM, which I have been wanting for-ever but they are always sold out...what else, oh some moonflower seeds this morning. Does that count in the 24 hour hiatus? HAPPY GARDENING!!
Hi and welcome, Abby! Your fortitude is inspirational! Nice shot.
hello Abby.... welcome!... pretty pansies
thanks for the warm welcome! I just came back in to check on these eggs I found in my shade garden...could they be red worms? looks like fertilizer pellets. I have to take a photo of the valentine valley (?) andromeda and korean spice viburnum as soon as I place them by the dogwood. Also put in some bleeding hearts under the massive blueberry bushes we have been collecting from Oliver. These babies are the sequoias of blueberries! Well if you can assist with the worms/eggs that would be great..I'll go take some photos.
Sweet picture. Looks like a Song Sparrows nest.
It's Good Luck to have a bird nesting in your garden.
So far:
2 Blueberry bushes - Elliot and Duke (planted yesterday)
A flat of Bibb Lettuce (getting planted today)
Cedar mulch
Canadian Spaghum Moss
I walked over to the local nursery with my sister's shopping cart and carted everything back home (less Eli and Duke, imported from Missouri via Fed Ex). It was real hard to stay away from the rose bushes!
My big shopping will be in a week or two (and for that I'll use the van and drat I still want to pick up other kind of bush). Major veggie and annuals planting scheduled for May 5, the new moon in Taurus!
Welcome Bocce! You have to be Italian with that DG name!
Hi bocce Welcome to NE Gardening.
Welcome, Bocce, to the best forum on DG.
My mom was born in Brooklyn.
Welcome to the best forum--NE gardening! Received an order from Dutch Bulbs today--penstemon 'Dark Towers', a bag a cactus dahlias, & iris 'Spin Off' -- the iris is huge, & I expected it in the fall--looks like it will bloom this year.
Hi Abby & Bocce! welcome to the very 'best' forum at DG. Abby, we're all addicted and proud of it! Bocce, I just planted my new blueberries this week.
Welcome Abby & Bocce , glad to have you here in the Northeast Forum!!
Dittto.
You'll love it here. A bunch of very great people.
i bought more seeds. Because i am nuts, i think...
Sweet Confetti Mix Peppers (to go w/my Rainbow Heirloom Mix Tomatoes, i guess)
Bright Eyed Girl MGs - super hot pink
Fernleaf Dill - last year i tried Mammoth Dill, and it didn't go so well - thought i'd try a different one...
Wow, thank you all so much for your warm welcome! No, I'm not Italian though I do play bocce (two times ladies champ at our local beach club) and I can cook up a mean Eggplant Parmigiano, with eggplant, garlic, tomato and herbs from my garden of course, LOL! Brooklyn has some of the best dirt around, we can grow just about anything here.
I'm heading out to feed the buying addiction some. More strawberries (and hopefully this year we'll get to eat them before the squirrels do) and I really need some kind of bush to fill in a hole where I moved roses a few months ago.
I'm really happy to have found you folks and I LOVE Dave's Garden. Don't know what I'd do without it!
I like playing bocce - we have a set. Welcome again. We have a real name thread going (sticky) if you want to share it. No problem if you don't!
I've received all my Spring Hill plants this week - what a delight! They are all healthy looking and I'm pleased as punch that they are!
