Clear, sunny, and now 40 degrees and climbing to 50 today. I am amazed how we are warmer than most today. A perfect day for a Lily Planting party. I have a 200 to plant today from 2 great coops where the prices were phenomenal. The average price was about .50 each. DH will be reeving up his auger and I will be doing a little lily dance anticipating their summer appearance, as long as I can keep the rabbits out. We will do the final tweaking of the endless stream today and rock the shape of the end. And I have to tackle the seedlings that need re-potting today. Hope I get a Round To It today.
Ah, the 60's. I was one of those who was in full rebellion, but I remember it all. I didn't get too caught up in the drug haze, and my eyes were opened wide open to a worldly picture that I hadn't known about growing up in Tulsa. My ears caught all the new sounds and I was moved to think beyond my upbringing. I have never looked back. I miss those days of my backpack and a world to see. But I don't miss all the floors I slept on or all the brown rice that I ate. Plus I now have a garden. Out to enjoy it. Have a good one all. Patti
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 17
The 60s?? Don't get me stahted!! Never thought I'd live this long!
The 60's? Wouldn't that make a nice temp today!
I was in college in the 60's--but then teaching also--quite a change in lifestyle! Victor, the tick was just starting to burrow in, but I get a very bad reaction--was bitten 15 years ago, & it triggered bacterial arthritis---changed my life, but it can't keep me out of the gardens! Except today--too chilly!
Wow - sorry to hear that, Robin. I asked because for lyme transmission, it has to be on/in you for 24-36 hrs.
I'd like to give Canada a piece of my mind right now but then I'd be down to nothing. I'm with you on the 60's Boo. Mamasita, I was a child too...a flower child. Now I'm a honey 'chile.
We are in the mid to low 30's the next few nights. High around 50 today and 60 tomorrow. Then life should improve. Lugging these seedlings back and forth from Atlanta is getting old.
I was only 13 in '69 so I guess I was more a 70s -rock-disco chick, sort of.
We got back a while ago and had to rush up to Poughkeepsie to get the tax info from the accountant. Nice day all the way from Binghamton except for the cool wind.
It's 52 right now and sunny.
54 and getting cloudy now. Was nice working outside. More cleanup - not too much left, and I put up a willow fence at the rear of my pool. It attaches to the chain-link. I was 6 in '69 so I was definitely a product of the 70's.
Lynn - sounds like you had a successful trip to Lowes! My DH and I were out doing some errands today, and I promised him I'd just be "a second" at HD because I had to run in to get a wire fence section to protect my new brug.....Well, I FLEW in and out and saw they had just gotten a new shipment of really colorful flowers, but I just covered my eyes and kept running! LOL Torture!
Torture is right, Donnie! It's tough when your "other" is with you and you're there on an other mission! I'll have to see what's happening at the HDs near me since they ought to be getting some new stock, too. I was lucky hubby tolerated my "Let's just stop at Lowe's for a minute" last evening! He knows all too well what I'm up to! Most of the time he begs off from tagging along when I mention HD or Lowe's because he knows it's never a quick trip! And it doesn't matter if we're in another town with either store, I still have to stop and check it out. As you can tell by my score yesterday, each store has different stock! Always worth taking a peek.
- Lynn
Yeah, I usually have to check out both at least once each week. LOL!
Well, I was so much older than, I'm younger than that now.
L
Age is relative. I know some young people who act like old fogeys and old people who live young. I happen to think Boomers had it all.
I meant then, not "than". Back to school
48 and sunny felt good today, supposed to be near 60 the rest of the week.
I was traumatized by the 60's. All of my heroes were shot, my peers were dying in a terrible war or were terrified of being drafted, and I grew up in the cold war expecting the bombs to drop. Yeah we had it all, alright. Of course now it's become fashionable to wish you were part of that time. A lot easier than living it!
Booum, well put. How I came out of that confusion and anguish with any hope is beyond reason. Now in my sadly less responsible and involved world, I am thinking of tulips, and daffodils, when I hear "Where have all the flowers gone" not war, yet we are in one again. But we don't go there, so NRN. Patti
There is tragedy and trauma in every generation. There was never an 'ideal' time.
I can remember being in about fourth grade, thinking how fortunate I was to not ever have to live through a war! Childhood.
Absolutely, Victor. I have a book of important photos of the 20th Century. Terrifying. And I thought it was a "better" time. It was like looking at photos of the Middle Ages! Certainly gave me pause. I guess that's a big reason I get lost in flowers-a break from reality!! I know deep down people are good, but oh, what they do!
Kathy, what you said was amazing. I was marching in the 60's and when things turned wild, well we'd get stoned (with rocks) and beaten up by the folks we were marching for. Almost got killed at a MLK rally. The fires and riots in Liberty City started in the 60's and culminated in the 80's. SWAT squads were gassing everyone. Got hosed by the fire dept. while defending a Planned Parenthood clinic. Had friends eighteen and then a bit die in Viet Nam. DH was 1A for over a year and we decided to go to Canada if he was called. Imagine me in Canada...just shoot me! The music was great, but the times were a'changin and a'terriifyin. Our peers were dieing every day and it was on the nightly news like a grocery list. There is no way to romanticize it.
I used to teach swimming, scuba and surfing and would take scuba students down to the Keys. Homestead was a major strategic base for Cuba. I was pulled over and had my car turned inside out and upside down several times while taking students down to the Key Largo and Pennekamp to dive. Couldn't understand why the police would pop up out of nowhere to do this. I was just a sorry student at the University of Miami. I later learned that because of all the military stuff involving Cuba, anyone considered an activist was also a potential communist sympathizer. People don't know what it's like to live in the police state of the sixties.
I never had a back pack, but ate plenty of brown rice (and spaghetti with ketchup). Often didn't eat at all. Coming from a privileged upbringing, it changed the way I thought about people, government and the world forever. Made me think we could teach our children the nuances of privilege and the roots of humanity.
Dang Gloria, I might be stepping you out on the Barbara Walters philosophy front here.
Laurel
Yes - I realized a while back that life is not what happens around you but what you do with your short time here. I don't mean retreat from the world either. If everyone gave up, it would get a lot worse. I just mean that stuff will always happen that is beyond your control, so it's the things you can affect and change - like your family, friends, garden, neighborhood etc., that count most.
Temps are dropping a little; it's now down to 49. Things look great for the rest of the week! It's getting more and more colorful around the region, and not just with flowers but the trees and grass, too.
The dear sweet neighbor who taught me to garden, the real PIRL, had an uncle in the Civil War and he'd tell her stories about the horrors of the battlefield. Just to know someone who was alive to hear those stories still amazes me.
You've got it Victor.
Yes Victor you are so right.
I came home from work today - usually a day off for me, and just gave DH a big hug and thanked him for taking care of me so I don't have to work this much every week.
Can you believe I just received ANOTHER replacement VISA card due to a security breach from a retailer. This is more than frustrating. I think this is the 4th replacement in the last several years. AAARRRGGGHHH!
Wow - sounds like an inside job - check the family!! That only happened to me once. Someone charged $7,000 from an office equipment place. Visa didn't seem to care. I wanted them to pursue it but they just kept telling me not to worry since I wasn't responsible for the charges.
I almost wish it was a family matter, victor. My breaches involved IBM, a local hospital, a national retailer and now a supermarket (not all associated with the credit card). You'd think that since you can see your own home to the nth detail on your computer, there could be better security with personal information. Like my life is so wonderful that someone would want it! The thing that gets me more than anything is I take all kinds of precautions to shred documents and secure my data, and these other things are due to laxness on someone else's part. Just don't touch my orchids.
Could be a wider ID theft kind of deal.
We had it happen two weeks ago for the second time in about two years. It was Chase who called on our Visa account. I don't use that card at all so we narrowed it down to a few places. It's a terrible feeling.
Thank God we never had any loss of finances or identity, but my (our) information was part of large scale breaches. Public announcements were made and our financial institution decided to just replace the card(s) and put monitoring on the accounts. With IBM and the hospital, it was personal info including SS#.
It certainly is. The credit cards don't bother me as much as if someone had access to ss numbers and bank accounts and the like.
Well .... here's my weather:
It's dark
It's chilly
It's a bit breezy, too.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
We are dark.
The thermometer outside says 42 and sinking.
I'm sooo cold despite a roaring fire.
We're expecting to go down to around 32. 70's by the end of the week. That's when things will really pop - all the trees will leaf out. Finally!!
We are already at 32 degrees.
We're 40.
39 and clear. Predicting a low of 31 overnight.
