Venu, yes, that's why I enjoy the Juncos while they are here!
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 17
We have downy, red belly. yellow belly and pileated. The pileated are a riot as they are "tooled" to walk on trees and have a major problem trying to walk on the rails of our third story deck or eat out of the feeder. I was making suet/seed treats, but then was awakened one night to a rat feasting. Sorry peckers.
We mostly have house sparrows, gold and red finches (I think there are two types of the later) and cardinals. The cardinals are my personal favorites. They get along with all the other birds, share, and are very romantic. I see the males nest build, feed their mates before and after mating as well as their young. I also see mated pairs together for many years.
Laurel
40* and drifty occasional SNOW FLAKES.
Where did the 60's go. Comming back next week I see by Yahoo weather.
I know JoAnn, what are those white things in the air this morning?
you poor people... i couldn't stand seeing that now
Glad I don't live further north. I am so jealous of DG'ers who live down state and Ct. and LI.they have real spring. We just get teasers.
Back to 70 by Thursday, so that'll be better.
maybe my new plants will be here.I can dig.
I have maps and plans for the new stuff to fill in where former owners didn't garden.
If the canna and caladium forcing is any indication of how successful I'll be ,I shouldn't get my hopes up.
Some stuff just can't do much til it warms up more, then they should get going better.
thanks for the "buck up" It will be what it is.
It's 46 and cloudy. We're traveling to Binghamton for an induction ceremony. I really hope we don't meet up with any wintry weather in the hills.
Have a good day, everyone! - Lynn
Have a good trip. I doubt you'll run into any trouble.
Jo Ann - start the caladiums in pots indoors. They want/need WARMTH.
I'm starting my canna indoors, as well.
Pirl, Dang, another thing I need to do asap, now that I have those caladium bulbs where did I put that asap thing. I never can find it when I need it. No time. I haven't even thought about those canna lilies that I stored in garbage bags in the crawl space. I need a root cellar. Any odds takers on it they survived.
I haven't looked at the calla and glad bulbs that I tried to store either. My dahlia storage was not so great but I do have eyes on some spouting, so I need to plant them asap, too. Now where was that asap?
Heading out on this partly cloudy day, but it isn't raining or snowing and the wind has laid down. Good day for working in the beds and doing a little planting. Have a good one all. Patti
Started both in front of livingroom window ,over the heat vents, two weeks ago.
It's my usual impatience.
They take a while to sprout but love the heat.
Sunny to mostly cloudy now. Could have a shower then more sun later. Only upper 40s with a nice little breeze. Some freezing temps again a couple nights next week. All the ups and downs of spring in the northeast, makes ya crazy sometimes, but it sure beats winter. :)
thanks pixi.
I don't have a heat pad under them. Too many ofum.
It's just my house that's not warm enough yet, I do have a few things over the heater in the dining room window, but the ones I wait til it's warm enough outside catch up so quickly.
If you have the ability to put them on top of your refrigerator it works well since it's constant warmth rather than on and off.
Yesterday's weather was a surprise for me. It was supposed to be low 50's and rainy, but was 75+ and sunny. Needless to say, I got a sunburn on my arms!
Today - cloudy, damp, chilly.
BEAUTIFUL victor.
My sister used to live in Piermont on the Hudson River, just below Nyaak. I remember how beautiful the region is beyond the RT90 interchanges. We would take daytrips to the Stone Barns at the Rockefeller estate and Kiaiakook? also Oleana the home of one of the Hudson River painters ( can't remember his name)
Your photos are always great. Thanks for this one and the memories it starts.
Thanks Jo Ann. Olana was Frederic Chruch's estate.
I need a memory jog from time to time, thanks. I was going to say Bierstadt but thought he was much earlier.
Sister used to hike with her kids on Bear Mt. Stone monument is a nice honor.
My best friend got married on Bear Mt. I love it there. So beautiful.
The weather is inconsistent today. I've seen warm sun, dark clouds, wind, rain, more sun. It's 53 deg. now.
Harper
sunny now but cool and windy.
Odd day here, again. No rain yet.
Nice photos, Victor.
We've had clouds, rain, spitting snow, wind and sun here today. I agree - odd weather.
I baked chocolate chip cookies Friday night with Taelar. Baked about three dozen. They're all gone, or I'd share!
a lethal combination, chancy weather an cookies
Jo Ann
Hee hee!!
Just so you all know - I only ate four ... two yesterday and two today. I'm trying to be good. I'm trying out for a role as pixie's shadow.
Yummy! Crazy weather day here. Not very nice.
Rained here this AM so we did the burn pile or I mean one of them. Took a while to get it going of course. There's this tiny window between melted snow and the cut off date here. I also raked most of the thousands of small branches and leaves under the monster willow. My advice is- don't put a willow on your property. Ibuprofen and a bath were necessary of course.
Victor, Nice water feature, where is the J.Maple? Nice hike, I am a little envious as I just worked in the yard all day.
We changed the end of our stream, but haven't put the rock back, but it looks way better. I transplanted a bunch of sweet fern and Rosa Rugosa. I figure if I had bought them it would have cost me a couple of hundred dollars. I hope they take. I cleaned up some old high bush blueberries. I am sure they are much happier now.
The day was mild, bits of sun, but no rain.
Boojum, that is a monster willow in your yard, but isn't that the one that had a huge part come down two winters ago? If it is, than you had less to rake and burn this year! Glass half full thing. Glad you can see the ground. Patti
Pretty stream, Victor. Must also look lovely with snow just beginning to melt.
