DC area - Spring Swap, May 24th

Laurel, MD(Zone 7a)

Another thread. Goes like "haves, wants and oh please, please help me get a "

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

found it!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Excellent!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

noobie- I have room in my van for one more person and four tomato plants. Gita is coming to my house(near Old Mill H S) at around 9 am to pack her stuff into my van- then about 9 30 hopefully leave to pick up Shirley in Columbia and give her a ride too. I expect we'll get to Becs about 11 30. I will have to leave the swap at 3 30 to come home tho. If not for prior plans I would want to stay longer - Bec when do you go to bed? ha ha

Now that I think about it, I can only pack three tomato pplants- the fourth will probably have to be left at my house ha ha

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Shoot -- everyone is leaving at 3 which is when I'll arrive.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Well, if noobie prefers to drive and stay later, I bet Gita would want to stay later if she could ride back with her.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Waving my hand, do you have room for one more at the swap? I'm riding with Sally & crew.

Sally, where are we going to put all these plants were bringing? I can envision them being strapped down to the roof of your van!

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Shirley - excellent - as far as space is concerned - I have lots - I am going to "set up camp" at the end of my cul-de-sac, with two pop-up tents, chairs and tunes/fan as needed :-)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Summary thread - please speak up if I got foods wrong - and who can bring drinks/sodas?

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/850073/

I figured we could start between 11-noonish - since I am "the ever going to bed later" person I don't care when it ends - Hubby & friend has been kicked out for the weekend!!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm signed up for wine.

Crozet, VA

Hey Guys, it is so nice to be wanted. I hadn't made a decision because I wanted to see how I would be feeling after the trip this weekend. Noobie, my husband tells me that it is okay to go to the swap, but I cannot bring anything home. ha-ha Yeah, right.

I still cannot commit at this time and it will most likely be Friday before I can say for sure. Please forward directions and things to me though Bec. We might decide to ride up there on Saturday. I sure would like to see some more of you good people again.

I will keep this thread checked and keep in touch.

Ruby

Adamstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Jill says she is good to go with transporting for me so I'll be sending some cuttings of American honeysuckle 'John Clayton' (a nice yellow) and also some Happy Returns daylilies just for Happy, and some extras for anybody else!

Sherry

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

This is "American Honeysuckle" that I got from Jill at harts. It has now covered the trellis.

If someone tells me how and where I can take some cuttings--and what to do with them--I will be happy to do so. In water? Pot them? What????

"what time do you go to bed?" LOL I left Becky's last night....ummmm this morning at 2AM....doesn't that answer that for you?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I've got I think 3, maybe 4, cuttings that have rooted in a planter and are looking pretty good... I'll pot them up and bring them for people who might want them (I know Chantell wanted one & I think Becky did also). Gita, I remember that you managed to root a piece in water last year, so I think cuttings will work fine. Mine is huge, so I'll be happy to take few extra cuttings in case there aren't enough potted ones to go around. The one that Nutmegnana is taking cuttings of is another cultivar of American Honeysuckle, so since I'm bringing those cuttings I can easily bring a few of mine as well.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Yipeeee.....doin' a happy dance!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Whoee! Can I have a little bitty cutting too? That's gorgeous!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I've got Chantell, Becky, and Happy down for the rooted cuttings of my American Honeysuckle... and there will be unrooted cuttings as well of mine and of Nutmeg's variety. :-)

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

You are amazing. Many thanks.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Hey guys, sorry it took me so long to post again. I've got to wait till the last minute, we have some "issues" here and I probably won't know until Friday if DH and I can make it or not. I've got nada in the way of plants to contribute at this point, sorry. Can bring food, drink, chairs, etc.

Strasburg, VA(Zone 6b)

i don't want to scare anyone but i'll probably have my three young ones & my husband......since things have been so crazy with gas prices we are going to take advantage of being so close to fredericksburg and go see my aunt before going home

i'm very flexible with food and/or drinks and/or whatever....wow, i won't even be driving!!!
any way, i'm sure i'll have lot's of goodies due to bribing & we'll time it so we can see everyone without over taxing everyone with three young ones :-)

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally...

Gita and I are trying to work out getting her here to my house. I just don't know the Baltimore area well enough to tell her how to get here. I just know my little area of Glen Burnie (and not much of that). If all goes well, she and I will be riding down together.

I will be there. I can bring sodas. I may see if I can buy a few plants from the coop to bring for swapping.

I can't wait! This is going to be fun.

For anyone that is in my area, can anyone give Gita directions to my house if I give you my address? D-mail for address if you can help out!

Thanks!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Noobie: Please don't buy any plants -- we'll have more than enough. No worries.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Noobie--I already got your D-mail and will be OK on my own with directions. My main point is to avoid #2 all the way down...Your directions to your development were fine!

Sally--I was waiting to tell you that I will be going with Audra so she doesn't have to drive alone and also so I can stay a little later....Just needed to finalize that it is OK....We have just been talking about this since yesterday.

Hope you don't mind...:0) Gita

Crozet, VA

I am stumped. I have seen people speaking to sally on here but I haven't seen her respond to anything. Are you posting on any of the swap threads sally? Something strange here for sure.

Ruby

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

but happy....it gives me an excuse to go look for plants! :o)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Not necessary at all, Noobie! :-) But if you're really determined, look for one of two pots of something overgrown that you can divide or take cuttings from... like some wild coleus that's a good deal... Really, though, I think we're going to have such an abundance of plants at this swap!!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

And speaking for myself, I love the fact that most of the plants at the swap are tried and true plants that have colonized in people's yards -- that means that they are likely to do well for me. I can kill off nursery plants with the best of them!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Amen, Happy....amen...
ruby - over on the haves and wants...isn't she?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Ruby,

Sally is the "quiet type". She hardly ever gabs....even when driving with her--she only speaks if you ask her something....
I guess she only Posts if she really has something to say---Yet, she started the Post called "Time for a "pup-date".....and also one called--"I am tired of being a good Listener!". She IS a good listener! It is easy to dump on her....and I DO!

We all just spent a whole day together! Did you ever talk to her??? Did she--to you?
I mostly communicate with her through D-mails.

Sally is a very nice person and an awesome Mom! Did you know her DH is a pilot and owns a plane???? Amazing rides--I bet!

Gita

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Oh- {blush}
Stop
I was so fried on Sunday--I don't know how we all made it out the gate on our feet. Then I ate TWO apple fritters- whooh Sugar rush.
I devoted myself to family on Sunday to make up for my absence LOL. put on a pot of sausage sauce then we watched a movie. oh took doggie to park to play too.
speaking of not chatting--- wrightie hasn't put in her 2 cents lately...

And isn't there always too much plants and too much food, as if thats actually possible- Shirley- no problem fitting plants I have just two flats and one bush so far

Crozet, VA

Thanks for the explanation about why I am not seeing Sally post, Gita. Sally seemed to be rather chatty last fall and winter when some of the things that she would type, would crack me up. I did notice on Saturday that she is younger than I remembered her being. Another tidbit while I am discussing Sally, without her permission. Sally, you remind me so much of Candice Olsen on HGTV. That is definitely a compliment too.

John wants to make sure that everyone at the swap is ready to take home some of the wire grass that he is potting up. He says that if you don't have any, you need some and if you have some already, you need more. ha-ha

You ladies have a great day.

Ruby

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Ruby: What is wire grass?

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Oh Ruby, John is giving away that rare wire grass? better watch out for the Nature Conservancy folks, LOL!

Seriously, wire grass rhymes with pain in the !!!. It grows everywhere you don't want it and if you take out one piece, the roots can be hidden underground the entire length of your garden. Any runners you miss will come back to haunt you. It wraps itself around my fruit trees, so I have to take a thin knife and cut it off!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Me thinks Ruby and John were collectively "pulling our legs"......Right, John????

Wire Grass==Bermuda Grass that is the bane of all the lawns! And yes, dragonfly, It IS indestructible.....

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Sorry to fall for the bait -- I had never heard that term. I'm sure my lawn is full of it . . ..

Crozet, VA

You described it beautifully Dragon. He has been fighting it for two summers, so he gets a lot of laughs joking with people about it.

Yes Gita, it probably is called Bermuda Grass in some places. And yes, he is messing with ya, as he would say.

No problem Happy. John is quite something at times. On our trip last weekend he asked every toll booth operator that we stopped at if "Big Brown was going to win?" There was only one out of about ten people that even knew what he was talking about. And for those of you who are not familiar with Big Brown, he is the race horse who recently won The Kentucky Derby and yes he did win the race on Saturday in Maryland called The Preakness I believe. In another couple of weeks he will vie for the Triple Crown when he races at The Belmont in New York. His worth was 70 million before The Preakness, not sure what he is worth now and there is just no telling what he will be worth if he does get The Triple Crown.

Hope that you are all having a good day.

Ruby

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

And the really amusing thing I noticed AFTER the race was that UPS is one of his sponsors....get it? "What can brown do for you?" I love it!!

Crozet, VA

Yeah, I heard the broadcasters referring to UPS several times.

Ruby
