DC area - Spring Swap, May 24th
Is there a thread for food? And, are we doing international theme or any kind or just bringing whatever floats yer boat?
Terri
Here's thread for foods - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/833269/
I think the general consensus is to brings appetizers...fingerfoods
Do any of you ever bring your significant others to these swaps? Like your husband? Or is this a ladies only thing?
Well, I don't see why not - mine won't be around - he is going to NY that week and I informed him he should stay an extra day :-) Like I just mentioned in food thread - the more the merrier :-)
Wyldeflwr: I hope you can make it!
I came with my husband and my 21 year old son the very first swap I went to... This time if my hubby can get off he and Terri's husband Brian my come but I think they may do something diffrent but not sure.. If they want to come hey we can always use some men to carry our stuff... Mine did at Harts swap...LOL Gotta love them...
Hugs,
Susan
I will vouch for your husband and son having been an amazing help at Hart's swap. They were great!
This is the most guy thing I know close by.

All of the husbands who came to our swap last year were great, hauling plants, cooking dinner.

Mybe not the best post to post this on my my youngest son Is Mike and most of you met him... He get out of collage in July and one company came to school and wanted to know if that Francis boy was still here as he went to interview last year know he could not be hired... Well to cut a long story shot they came this year and want mike for first intervies... Called him and told him to post his resume on there site... Well they tell them they get the job until on month before school ends... Well they called him yesterday as they don't want the ohter places coming in and offering him something and he may take if as they did not give him 100 percent... they did give him 99.9 but when the call came he was dancing... and so happy.. He will be working of Diominion Power in Richmond, Va... So I am guess I will better to know that area better really here soonn... and because he has to move they give him a 6,000 sign on bonus and starting pay is 42,000 for the first year and by year two or at athe end of year two be making in the 60'000 not so bad for a kid who went to local collage and got his smarts.... We are so proud of him....
SO hope no one gets mad I posted this here.... spank me when I feel betterok?
Hugs to you all
Susan
PS my two GD's oh and me...
I could have told you Mike was going places just from meeting him -- a really nice guy. You deserve to be proud as punch!
Cute granddaughers Susan. Congratulations on the job for you son. Yep, it sounds like he impressed someone at some point. Way to go.
Ruby
that's awesome!
congrats :-)
Told you before Susan...NO surprise to me...that is one charismatic young man...raised very well...you SHOULD be proud!!
Tell Mike I said congratulations and, no, no surprise that he's doing so well.
Tell him if he wants to have his chickens, there are some nice rural areas near the city that aren't too bad of a drive into Richmond. I think the Goochland area has grown up a lot since I lived down there, that was a favorite, but there are others.
That's an adorable picture of you and the grandchildren. What a cutie! The two little ones too. LOL
Wow after rereading that post boy oh boy I am not the best speller but that went above and beyound...LOL Could you tell the drugs were hitting me... My head is still real itchy by my eyes have gone down and so has my lips...
We really can't complain as far as kids go.. They all turned out to be really good ones... Hey I did not say perfect but good kids and we are proud of each and every one.... Hubby and I were brought up in so so family's mine was worse then his and we wanted better for our kids and rules... Well we did it...yeahhhhh....
My GD's are the love of my lifes....
Hugs.

Susan - just a suggestion if you worry about spelling - install the Google toolbar and it comes with spellcheck! :-)
Whew...thank God...other wise...well ya'll see how many typos I'm prone to, to begin with...LOL
Susan, that's great news about Mike's new job! He worked hard to get there, and you did too... I think this is only the start of great things in store for him!
Looks like my schedule might be freed up for the 24th, so I can plan on driving down for the swap -- hooray! :-) Now I have to get caught up on all the threads about it...
Ahhh Diane...I'm doin' the happy dance!!!!
He went to Richmond yesterday with his day and his friend from lastyear met him and showed him around... He was so hyped when he got home... I was surprised as he never lived in a city type place.. We moved him here when he was 3 years old.... I am so proud of all of my boys but this is the baby and he hates that I call him that but he is.... We went to my Grandsons First birthday party today... Here is a picture of my boys, GS. and Youngest GD...LOL
Hope no one minds...
Susan

Susan: What great looking boys -- and cute grandbabies.
Susan,
Tell Michael congratulations from us! What great pics of the boys, you and Kevin have done such a good job raising them!
Thanks... We think so... but hey they are all still BRATS! Glad your home Terri, I missed ya and was going to ask if you wanted to go to Greensboro with me but you went away :-( No really hope you had a good time with your family...
Hugs,
susan
Susan, Probably should have gone with you, LOL! I stayed a day too long at my daughter's house and my allergies kicked in, big time. I took a Zyrtec but it was too late, now I have a sore throat, runny nose AND congestion. But, on the bright side, my eyes are not tearing up! It was not fun to drive 3 hours yesterday with the tears running down my face, although if I had been stopped maybe it would have made the cops feel sorry enough to let me go without a ticket ^_^. Between the cats sleeping on the guestroom bed and the 2 dogs and 5 people in the tiny house, it was just too much for my system.
Otherwise we did have a good time and it's so great to have a little person come running up to you and give you a hug and kiss! She's definitely Grandma's girl!

Awww Terri, what is her name and her age? Yep, I know the feeling of having them seem to adore you. So good for the old ego.
Sorry about the allergies, but even though I have been bragging about having outgrown my hay fever and pet allergies, I believe that the combination of animals in that house would have me in the same condition as you left with. I hope they all calm down for you soon. Take good care.
Ruby
Hi Ruby,
her name is Cora and she's 14 months old. So smart, she knows if she gives me a lot of kisses and hugs she can get whatever she wants, LOL! I told my daughter when she first started walking, that there was no way to childproof an entire house and that she needed to teach her the meaning of the word "No". Well, my DD has a lot of books that say that a child can't possibly understand "no" until she's 2 years old, hahahah!
This kid knows exactly how to make her preferences known and shakes her head "no" with vigor when she is offered something she doesn't want, like strained beets! Hmm, maybe I might have some experience in raising kids? ^_^

Yes, I think that our kids forget that we raised them and they are doing okay. My son made fun of me the first time I was feeding Emily with a spoon. It had been almost 18 years since I had done that. I had to then laugh at him when he admitted that he hadn't even tried feeding her yet.
You may have heard me say already that I become giddy and weak in the knees every time Emily grins at me. I always have to add to that statement that I know already that I will have a very difficult time ever telling her no about something. What has really surprised the though that even though he is my ex, Emily's granddad is a much bigger sucker than I am with regards to her. He has such great plans for her. Too bad it took him being a senior citizen before he was able to know about true love.
Gald you got a chance to see and spend time with her. I don't see Emily as much as I would like to, but hope when she begins walking that she will be here with me more.
Ruby
Do we have hours yet? I vaguely think someone said noon? I won't be there until close to 3 . . .
Becky, could we please try to get a list of who's planning to go? That'll really help jog my memory in terms of stuff I should bring to share with folks. Also, will you be Dmailing directions to your place this week?
Maybe somebody has a more complete list, but this is what I came up with... who did I miss? And is it just wishful thinking that Ruby can make it? :-)

Ruby?
Ruby, we need you to come. waaaaaaaaah!
Critter - oh my - this is perfect - I have the list I was GOING to do tomorrow - poi-fect - will d-mail address to everyone - need to figure out what kinda foods we have and what I need to get etc :-) - if anyone wants to bring anyone else they are more than welcome to - I have two "outsiders" coming - and Jill, add Wendy to the list :) (Mrs. Shumway & hubby) - I did check the extended forecast and it looks fabulous right now - 78° and mostly sunny! I am going to order a fruit, a veggie and a wing platter :-) Will also get the plates/plastic wear and glasses - Ruby, I so hope you can make it :-)
I'm hoping to bring my friend Theresa with me... it's on her calendar, but she's been really hectic lately with work and family demands on her time. Some of you met her at my place last fall. She's fun! She's part of the family with the huge garden that I say looks like a truck farm... 2 other kids living across the field from her folks with their families, and she's got an apartment in "the big house," and everybody helps out with the garden. It gets bigger every year! That's where my extra tomato seedlings are going if nobody else wants them... :-)
I would like to come. Is this next Saturday or Sunday. I saw one post said the 23rd and the other said the 24th. I could make a lasagna since I am part Italian...or if we are just doing snack type foods I will have to think of something. I have four tomato plants that I just couldn't squeeze into the garden that I can bring.....
Hooray!!! Noobie is coming, Noobie is coming! *happy dance* because it seems we've managed to just miss meeting so many times!
I think we're just doing finger foods, to simplify things -- "grazing" is easier than a set meal time, and finger foods only require napkins for serving.
*out of breath from running over here* Critter....I can't wait to meet you and everyone else! What fun! My hubby says, "babe, I'm sure you'll have loads of fun BUT where will you put any plants that you swap? You don't have any more room?"
Silly husband, there's always more room! LOL
Noobie: Just check the swap thread and let us know what you'd like!
Happy, do you mean this thread or is there another one?
