Anyone here has a pond? Even a small one? I know there is a forum for that, but thought i would ask anyone here in the Northeast.
DG Names.....What's your real name??
I have a pond...?
Oh you do! I want to speak to as many people as possible about this. See i bought a preformed liner and want to install it, but i dont want to bury it completely. Someone told me to bury it if i didnt want the wintery ice wreck havoc to the liner. I dont want a completely submerged pond. I was thinking more of a "big" container garden surrounded with bricks or stones. I am so confused!!!
I don't know what to say, I used an old water bed mattress for the liner in my pond. I do have a preformed one, but it is kept in the basement for the fish to over-winter in.
It would depend upon what the liner is made of, mine in the basement is fibreglass so even if I put it outside, above ground, I don't think the ice would hurt it.
Michaela, you're always on my list! xx, Carrie
Oh Carrie, what do you know here I am feeding my latest obsession. :-}
Welcome, Soris! Love your unusual, pretty name!
I want to do a fountain this summer. I don't think I am quite ready for the excavation necessary for a pond yet, so I think I will start small.
Martha
Martha are buying a fountain? or just building one?
I want a water feature in my garden, and a buried pond is not what i want. I will do with my preformed liner what i had in mind all these months. An above ground water garden. I may regret it later but bahhhh!
Soris, I have a 2500 gallon liner pond. What questions did you have?
Eleanor, young children have huge problems pronouncing Louise. It always comes out weezie or weeze. I always liked it, except when a NY radio station was using a line from the Little Rascals as part of their advertising campaign. "I have to stay home and grease Weezer" thank goodness that was a long time ago.
Dulci, I had a preformed at one time. I sold it to my neighbor after I found a chipmunk floating facedown in it. Remember to put plants or rocks or something in it so the wildlife can get out.
Oh venu that is awful.
And I had a hunch victor knew something about this pond stuff. Well victor i have a preformed liner but dont want to bury it all the way. I want sort of a big container garden using this preformed liner. But i've heard is not a good idea due to levering issues and winter. what do you think vic?
Never saw Victor called "vic" before - how will he react?
I have a friend Michael.... he won't answer to Mike... said that's not what his mom named him
Oops!
Wait and see what Vic has to say about it. Ha ha ha ha. xx, Carrie
Never heard of anyone doing that. Do you really want to look at the plastic side?? Also, without the weight of the water maintaining the shape, I would think it is probably more likely to deform or break.
Louise - that is so cute!! I like the name wheeze too! Soris - I don't know anything about ponds, but if you want something above ground there is always the option of a fountain. I have one on my deck that is a waterfall - easy to maintain and you have the soothing sound of moving water. I would have loved a pond but it would be too complicated for me to do alone - DH would never go for it. So this was a good option for me. I tried to cover up the un-natural looking sides with plants. Good luck with what you do. Eleanor
p.s. - I have recieved several thank you's for working on the list, but I also think Celeste and Sue need some thanks also. Celeste started the thread and Sue did a lot of work on the first list of names, so thank you for everything you have done. Thank you very much!!!
I'm new to Daves Garden. Just wanted to say hi. Mine is obvious too, Dyane is my name.
Welcome Dyane. Another LI-er!
Welcome, Dyane! We're happy you have joined us!
Welcome Dyane! Glad to have you with us! Eleanor
Yes, welcome Dyane - we're a friendly bunch - though slightly wacky.
Hi Dyane - I'm so glad you took me up on the invitation to come over and meet all of us.
Ooooo - I came back to visit & you've got yourselves a list of names - excellent idea!
Mine is fairly obvious, too - but I am Kate/Katye, and technically NE of the Pacific Ocean, out here in the land of Microsoft & Starbucks, and Seattle's finest sky-drip system...
This is still the very best place to wander in & kick back. The entertainment value is consistently 5-star (sometimes Thai 5-star!), and if I ever have the opportunity, I will visit you for one of your RU's.
I hope for all of you the very nicest Spring weather to arrive posthaste & onward to a fine Summer. We can only dream of hot summers with ripe tomatoes here.
You guys have had one he** of a winter - you deserve the very best that the next several months has to offer. cheers!
Thanks and nice to see you Kate. Stop by more often!
Ah, Kate . . . I grew up in Vancouver, BC . . . you have no idea how much I miss the Pacific North West. sigh . . . temperate summers - no humidity . . . mild winters. Flowers blooming from late January to early December . . .
I love Starbucks!
My kind of weather and climate. Still have not tried Starbucks. The burned smell travels forever.
We even threw away the coupon for the free cup that arrived in with the newspaper last week.
Oh, Victor . . . you can't relocate to the Pacific Northwest . . . what would we do without you? Besides, you are required to carry a gift card to Starbucks when you live on the west coast!
Starbucks: so do my worms!
Weather forecast for this weekend: possible snow.
Not sure I could ever miss that. and in April, no less...
But it was 80° last Saturday, so the temperature is right on target when you average the two.
Rain is a good thing, but much better at night; never on weekends.
K
Don't forget - you can be anywhere and be part of this forum. But the Starbucks is a problem.
I am going to the West Coast May 13th Yahoo!
Careful - 'Yahoo!' is trademarked.
Starbucks: it was a savvy way to market a widely used product to a new generation of coffee drinkers. Mostly young people, not familiar with regular or common coffee, with a tendency towards all-things-trendy, became consumers of SB coffee in all its facets.
An over-roasted espresso as the basis for a coffee drink - that I understand.
But I prefer to drink espresso shots, and that stuff is darn near...ummm, better not say.
They have since toned it down after realizing that another segment of potential customers did not cotton to the flavour of burnt coffee.
Not to mention the fact that for many, it's daunting to be in line behind someone with a 30-word order (OMG! it's a cup of coffee...isn't it?) reeling it off like an auctioneer.
I do SB grounds for my worms, oblige out of town guests that want the "experience", and truly appreciate their committment to the community. We have LOTS of choices here, unlike some regions.
But, IMO, the best cuppa is one that you drink in the garden...
I'll take the grounds from any coffee anytime!
Coffee? Miami beach expresso makes Starbucks expresso taste like watered down coffee. Starbucks came out with a new flavor, 'Organic Sumatra- Peru' blend. Its pricier than the reg 1lb coffees they sell but goes down smooth and doesn't have the usual bite of their bolds. Not bad but not worth the extra bucks IMO. ☺
Cubano coffee, doublee por favor.
Hi Kate. Please do stop by a lot more often. I added you to the list so that means you have to stop by!! LOL We love to hear from you. Eleanor
