You beat me to it, Polly...and yep, it might have been the 800+ miles, too.
But Man, you never ever turned 'em down.
Even if you knew about skunks and things.
DG Names.....What's your real name??
Did they black dog double dare you down there? Luckily no one ever double dared me anything to do with a skunk.
the really serious dares were the black dog ones. I did most of them because I wouldn't be chicken, but there were some that even I wouldn't do.
It is surprising that most of us grew up to be this old. The worst one was going out the window of my room and climbing up to the top of the tin roof in mid July. Talk about a cat on a hot tin roof....geesh!
My most serious one is why I'm married...
Kids today playing their gameboys and sitting in front of the TV all day, don't know what they're missing.
Hi Sharon. Is it spring there yet? And what's it an open invitation to? I get to the point where I'm wildly waving my arms trying to get them to leave me alone - and glance over to see both dogs watching me with intense interest - is this a new gardening technique?
My brother didn't dare me to do much, but he would catch me doing something I wasn't allowed to, then blackmail me - "I won't tell on you if you run around the garage 100 times."
I didn't have to be black dog double dared to enter a kissing contest with the very handsome Johnny Lutzel. Better than any biting bugs or circling bees, by far!
Somehow, Pirl, that doesn't surprise me.
2Zues, it is saying to you: I dare you to swat at me, because then it is for certain that I will bite back!!!
Woooooo, Johnny Lutzel. And you and Johnny were what age?
The first boy that kissed me was a not so nice kid. I was 8 and he was 10. I hit him so hard his ears are still ringing.
We were both 13 and we did win the contest. Funny but I can't picture him in his 60's.
The first boy that tried to kiss me had false teeth and he would run after me and try to kiss me with those false teeth.
He had a car accident and I happened to be the one who found him. He lost the teeth in the accident. Ever after that he tried to kiss me for saving his life.
Did not want to be kissed with false teeth.
He should have tried using his lips! ☺
HA! Gloria that's funny!
Katye-my cousin was a cop in Yorba Linda.
Gloria, do you still have the false teeth phobia? I don't mind false teeth, my daughter is a Dentist, and after working with her for the past year, I have no problems with any of that.
Pirl, I bet he is really cute in his 60s. What was the contest?
What are the rules of a kissing contest?
No rules for a kissing contest on the west coast. But, for that matter, there aren't a lot of rules here anyway. well, not many follow those we do have...
Bees circle you because they are good little sentries & and to obtain a better perspective: how close can they get before you leave the area they're in?
I have stood still and waitied for them to gather all necessary data: they usually circle 6 or 7 times, but there are exceptions. Seriously, that droning buzz makes most people & animals react, as in get away from it. Except for my Ridgeback who believes it is the bugle call to hunt...
what about the 'No see ums' - they are really annoying!
I have never been stung by a bee, the honey bees which I regularly encounter in my yard are docile, they are usually more interested in gathering pollen, the bumble bees, though more curious are even less threatening. I have however been bitten by a wasp, a yellow jacket which was as interested in my ham sandwich as much as I was. Needless to say he won the sandwich. Wasps are more likely to sting.
In Florida, in some parts of the Everglades they have killer bees which attack at the slightest disturbance, they are very aggressive and deadly, when I lived in Fla every now and then you would hear of someone or someone's dog which had crossed their path...with unfortunate results.
☺
Kissing and telling anything more than I've already told everyone might spoil the memory for me. He was so nice and so good looking. I believe he met a girl while he was in the service, in Germany, and they married.
I've only been stung by wasps/yellow jackets but those "no see ums" certainly are annoying, Anita. They're not around when there's a breeze but if it's still it can end a party or drive it indoors. I asked Jack and he said the biting fly I despise is the green fly. I knew it wasn't the "stupid fly".
The miserable wasps always make a try for my coffee. Now I keep it covered but they remain too close for comfort. I've been spraying them with flying insect control and it works.
Yep. I still have a thing against false teeth. Although most people dont make them go "clackety clackety clack" like they are alive like that kid did.
DISCLAIMER: I mean no disrespect to anyone who may have false teeth for what ever reason. I am only saying that for me personally it is disconcerting to have some one take their teeth out and clack them in my face.

We had a wonderful old man who lived in the apt. beneath us. He would always take out his false teeth to entertain us. It worked.
My uncle used to entertain us with his false teeth. DS still remembers him fondly, even though Uncle Joe passed when DS was only seven.

Hi Pirl ,
my roses are just coming in.Received my roses from Palatine a few days ago, planted the last 2 today.
A backorder from Parks came today. It was from last years sale and I totally forgot about them.3 Heritage. They soaking in the tub.
My Pickering order should have been sent today. All OGR and I think I ordered mostly Gallica's.That one I tread because of all the holes to dig.
Then one more order from diamond123 next months.Own root so those will be easier to plant.
In general most of my newly planted roses from last year did good/great.Some in containers I am waiting to show life but may have lost them.

We are a talkative group, Brigitte!
Eglantyne. Looking forward to more about your rose garden this year.
I thought my rose garden had completely succumbed to the last to years of drought and no water. (The water to the underground drip system was disconnected by a scammer). But I just looked out there in the overgrowth and Q. Elizabeth, a David Austin I don't remember, a white rose, and Eden are all blooming away despite the neglect in response to recent rains.
They sure can take a lot of punishment.
