Miss Sharran: While you were out there was a significant discussion here. Go back to Victor's post # 4859611 to catch up!
DG Names.....What's your real name??
Y'all are certifiably nutz!
Luv,
AB
Please don't be offended but I'd rather skip the asphidity bag. It seemed to give you enough grief. I'd just like not to be such a magnet for the wasps.
I really am not much help, sorry. I just never was a magnet for insects, even now. There was an Avon bath liquid that I used to use on my daughter. Never thought about catnip, but it might work, and boiling it down in water would be how to make it, then add a little oil to the water so that it wouldn't evaporate from your skin.
I would be afraid to tell you what was in one of those asphidity bags....I really did cheat and look, but the odor was very earthy with some herbal odors....almost fetid......and when it was covered in sweat, ahhhhh geeeeesh. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy....well... there might be one or two.
Ha!
You're good, Sharon, very good!
I don't know of any repellant, but i do know of a very helpful sting/bite ointment: it's homeopathic and works rapidly. It's called "Sting Stop" by Boericke & Tafel. I am allergic to wasp stings & they seem to target me, so i have used it A LOT! Works well, safe for kids, too.
^_^
for Pirl..

Avon Skin So Soft was a standard when we worked in the field.
Insects are not attracted to me, either. Infact not much is attracted to me, except crooks.
The only bugs that bothered me in the field were sweat bees. When you dig a lot of dirt it saves your back to bend a little before you toss each shovel ful of dirt. The favorite spot of those sweat bees is right in the crook of the back of your knee, so every time you flex your knee you get stung. I never could figure out what good there is in a sweat bee.
I'll look for that, Kate. I am allergic and carry and Epi-pen (when I remember).
That's it...I could not remember the Avon stuff.
I wondered about sweat bees, too.
Avon never worked for me.
Hello, My name is Mary. Since I was new to forums of any kind when I subscribed, I did not realize my user id would show up as a screen name or I would have tried to be more creative. I always enjoy seeing the different id's people use, whether amusing, intriguing or ordinary. When I need to create an id of this type, I have to admit my main concern is making it something I can remember! So "marcha" works for me in this case, and if you call me "Mary" I may not realize you're addressing me. :)
Hi Mary! Welcome to the best group of friends on the entire internet!!
Thank you, Candyce. I see we are neighbors.
Absolutely! And my daughter, Anna, about whom you will no doubt read a lot about, works just up the hill from the green bridge.
So, when's the coffee ready?
Welcome marcha - glad to have you with us. I added your name to the list but noted that you would rather be called marcha. Eleanor
Cutter family spray works great and if it's just for me I don't care if it has DEET in it or not. I hate getting bit up.
dwr857 = Don
I know, I know I'm from Arizona, but I wanted to be the greatest distance from the NE to respond. Besides, I am originally from Billerica, MA, go Sox, Pats, Celts and Bruins....
excuse my ignorance but I really have no clue what a sweat bee is.... i know i am up to 5 mosquito bites already
Celtics up 2 games. Bruins over for the yr. Red sox shirt dug out of concrete at new Yankee Stadium auctioned off for Jimmy fund. Aren't we funny birds?
Welcome marcha and Don! Nice to have you with us! - Lynn
Hi Lynn
I think this might be the Celts year, of course I thought it was the Pats year too. Was that ever a let down....... Don't get me wrong I love New Yorkers, I just hate their sports teams. I guess its just ingrained in us...... I can tolerate a loss to anyone except NY and especially the yanks.....
I don't get bitten by insects either, thankfully. I used to use that Skin So Soft from Avon on my cats as a flea repellant and it worked really well.
One of my DS's used it as a mosquito repellant and she said it worked great.
I don't know if they even sell it thru Avon anymore...someone else always got it for me.
I try to stay away from the sports unless it's the world series or the super bowl! Too much upheaval. I like playing with my plants since they rarely let me down, unlike sports teams.
Welcome Don and Mary! Funny, Don, I always felt the same about your teams!^_^ I'm a Mets fan though. Don't like the Yankees myself.
Oh Avon still sells Skin-So-Soft. I find it too greasy, but the lotion is OK (but less effective) than the bath oil. They used to have a powder which I liked best of all. I used to sell it years ago.
Onewish, you have skeeters already?? I haven't seen one yet but the carpenter bees were buzzing around me all day. I too would like to know what a sweat bee is.

I'm curious about that, too !
yes they love me... I think my blood keeps them going through the winter... LOL... the wood bees here have been nuts since last week.... i don't feel so bad now that i know i am not the only one who didn't know what they were
Hi Mary! Welcome to the NE forum! I'm Harper, as you may well have already read. My very best friend lives in Brattleboro. I love that town! It's so pretty.
Hi Don! Welcome! I have relatives in New Mexico... that's as close as I've been to Arizona. I don't bother with sports since they charge so much, I can't take my son to enjoy a simple game.
My mother says that if you slice a clove of garlic, and smear it on your skin, mosquitoes and gnats will avoid you. I'm sorry I can't remember if it works!
Looks like I missed all the festivities. I have stuck my foot in my mouth so many times. I still make mistakes, but I have worked very hard on harnessing my tongue. I value my friends too much to not take the extra effort to think about what I'm saying before I say it. I nearly lost some very dear friends over it. I like what venu said to her employees, "stop apologizing for your behavior... change your behavior". It's hard, and it takes time, but it's worth it in the long run.
Harper
edited to welcome Don.

Hi Harper - I totally agree! i watch them on TV only but as i am sure you know everything is expensive these days.
Ah onewish - you've got active Wood Bees!
The local WB sentries here are out & about & scouting, and one mustn't get in their way! They are so territorial, and I have to set them straight each year about it not being OK to mess with the Caretaker.
It cracks me up when they circle my head: it's like a tiny fuzzy spacecraft in orbit.
I don't mind the wood bees. or carpenter bees...or whatever you call them...it's those humungous flouresent beetles that come flying at you at high speed and crash into you that freak me out.
They're like insect suicide bombers!
Part of the fun of enjoying sports was going to see a game. It's just not the same on TV for me.
Funny Katye!
cross posted. I don't think we have those bugs JD.
I can send you some ! How many would you like?
ZERO please!
We do have some dumb bugs that keep flying into you, bouncing off, and over and over again. My friend has a great name for them. I gotta find out what it is.
We also get June Bugs....in JULY !!!
("...flowers on the prairie where the June bugs zoom........." )
Hi Don and welcome to the Northeast forum. We do have someone else from Arizona, mrsj, but the more the merrier. Please stop by and visit - we like to hear what's going on a little further southwest in the "Northeast of somewhere"!!! You're added to the list, or will be just as soon as I send this and get the list edited!!!! LOL Eleanor
Sweat Bee:
http://www.everythingabout.net/articles/biology/animals/arthropods/insects/bees/sweat_bee/
Sweat bees are sneaky bugs attracted to the salts in perspiration. They especially live in soybean fields. They are sneaky in that they will be on the back of your neck and sting you when you pull on your collar, or they get behind your knee and sting you when you bend your knee.
Not up front like a regular wasp or bee.
