What was the 1st record/single you ever bought? part 2

(Zone 7a)

And Robin Trower for guitar work.

Missouri City, TX

Just read on CNN - Eddie Arnold died this morning - what a wonderful voice he had.

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

Robin Trower's guitar work continues to manifest itself in the blues genre. Another old rocker who really hit his stride when he left rock for blues is Gary Moore (former lead for Thin Lizzy).

When the query went on about the tumbleweeds, I thought of Eddy Arnold, then that thought evoked dim memories of Gene Pitney and Marty Robbins.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Love, Love, LOVE Gene Pitney!

Bubba, What was the relationship between the back and forth songs of Joan Baez and Bob Dylan? Which songs were they? I have no idea what you're talking about and I am part of that time period. All I can remember is Virgil Cane right now, although I'm sure I know a lot more.

Missouri City, TX

You want me to remember 40+ years ago? That was prime Hippie time.
Drove a paisley painted '52 Caddie, then.

I know she helped produce some of his records, and there are some lyrics on some albums (not the most popular radio songs) that had hints of the relationship.

It may come back, now that I have started the grey matter gears grinding.

I've been struggling for the last 3 days, trying to remember the name of a Canadian singer that I liked.

Marlton, NJ

What a great thread!

My first 45 was probably something from Alvin & the Chipmunks but my first clear

memory is Nancy Sinatras "These Boots are made for Walkin"

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Herbie: I thought you didn't like the Motown sound ?
The Supremes are on my fave list, too...right up there with The Shirelles and The Ronnettes.

Crozet, VA

Oh I loved all those female groups. Whenever I hear any of the songs, I sing along and feel the need to move to the music. Oh....those were the days.

(Zone 7a)

Heart has to be my favorite female group. They had an excellent sound.

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

How about Wilson Phillips?

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I liked Wilson Phillips...wouldn't say they are favorite though.

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

You know I don't think I have a favorite girl band.
I do like Stevie Nicks, although some of her stuff is a bit twangy and reminds me of country which I really dislike (sorry to country lovers)

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

there are a few artists that i like from motown but not the majority of them. i never really cared for the temptations or marvin gay etc.

Crozet, VA

I did love the Motown sounds. Sometimes I am really tempted to order some of the offers on TV for oldies. Gosh, there used to be some really good music.
