Then I must make you belly-laugh.
What was the 1st record/single you ever bought? part 2
Another dumb one from that time period was the Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah Here I am at.....Camp Granada.
Suzy
Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah -1963 Allen Sherman
Hello Muddah, hello Faddah;
Here I am at camp Granada.
Camp is very entertaining;
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining.
I went hiking with Joe Spivey;
He developed poison ivy.
You remember, Leonard Skinner?
He got ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner.
All the counselors hate the waiters;
And the lake has alligators.
And the head coach wants no sissies;
So he reads to us from something called Ulysses.
Now I don't want this should scare ya',
But my bunkmate has Malaria.
You remember Jeffery Hardy;
They're about to organize a searching party.
Take me home, oh Muddah, Faddah;
Take me home, I hate Grenada.
Don't leave me out in the forest where
I might get eaten by a bear.
Take me home;
I promise I will not make noise, or
Mess the house with other boys.
Oh please don't make me stay;
I've been here one whole day.
Dearest Faddah, Darling Muddah;
How's my precious little bruddah?
Let me come home if you miss me;
I would even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me.
Wait a minute, it's stopped hailing;
Guys are swimming, guys are sailing;
Playing baseball; gee that's bettah;
Muddah, Faddah, kindly disregard this letter.
I always loved that song.
He also did a really funny version of the 12 days of Christmas !
I had the game. You collected creepy crawlers. It was great.
Thanks for the lyrics.
Kwanjin, yes, lots of belly laughs.
And you just gave me mine for the morning!!! ROTF Thanks!!!
great threadand susan, i have been on here for a long time.
Yeah, well, Frank ... this looked like your kinda thing to me. LOL
The other day I was in the grocery store, and they were playing Tears of a Clown. That reminded me of Spinning Wheel for some reason. Y'all remember those? I know they weren't by the same people! LOL I just use to love both of them. :)
was"nt spinning wheel by perry como??
I think IO1 means the version by Blood Sweat and Tears. Maybe not.
What ever happened to Blood, Sweat & Tears? I have some of their old music when Al Kooper sang with them.
Good question !
Just had to say "Pata Pata" was by Miriam Makeba. Just listened to the 45 the other day, along with the song from LuLu from the movie "To Sir with Love".
Yes, you're totally right about Miriam Makeba ! I've always gotten her and Eartha Kitt mixed up with each other.
I also found another 45 I hadn't listened to in ages: " 7 Little Girls " by Paul Evans....
"all together now, 1 2 3 ...."
jasper - thats a new one on me. never heard of the song or the singer.
Herbie: If you go to this website, you can read about Paul Evans and his songs.
www.paulevans.com

driving home yesterdayd and heard jim croce's song "have to say i love you in a song" that was a great song by the guy who sang "big bad, leroy brown"
Jim Croce was another great songwriter taken way to soon. I liked all his songs, but "Operator" was my favorite.
Janis Joplin...I still love listening to her... my mother even like her! I got to see her in concert and it was fantastic!
Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Sam Cooke, Bobby Fuller, Jerry Garcia...just scratching the surface.
"In Heaven , you know they got a Hell of a band."
I fought the law and the law won...great song !
Anybody remember Chris Montez? If so, "Call Me" !
Gary Lewis and the Playboys ?
Dusty Springfield ?
1st record - The Lion Sleeps Tonight - the Tokens
and lets not forget "whispering bells" by the del vikings
jmorth - was the flip side of thelions sleeps tonight titled riot in room 511??
i used to buy all joan biaz (sp) records until she refusedto pay her taxes because of the viet war.
that, I don't remember...
Janis and Karen Carpenter. (night and day) but I loved them both.
Karen had such a powerful voice. Janis..."oh lord won't you buy me a mercedes benz.." What a hoot she was.
"the lion sleeps tonight" was one of my favorites too. Neat how they brought some of that great music back in movies. That one they had in The Lion King (I think) and kids got to rediscover Queen with Waynes World.
I never knew anything about opera, but was exposed to the music thru watching Bugs Bunny as a kid. Sneaky way people get their favorite music heard by millions.
I haven't checked in here in a while, so I will add this - the first CD I bought was 'Soul Mining' by The The. About 20 years ago - great disc, still listen to it.
Wow, you got CD's early. I was still on cassettes 20 years ago.
Don't forget Freddie Mercury, Queen's lead singer died of AIDS in 1991. What a voice he had!
Loved Freddy! I miss him and his voice.
The Van Zant family.
Funny how you "forget" something until someone says the magic word. Then memories come flooding back! ☺
isn't that the truth.
Eariler today while reading this thread I thought about a song by Carole King from back when..."I felt the earth move..." Then it really did.
Just felt it 45 minutes ago. 5.4 magnitude - 15 miles from Olney in SE Illinois. Felt like the floor was about to roll...there seemed to be some sound too...Polaris (Siberian Husky) got somewhat fearful.

Wow! Never thought there would be earthquakes in that area.
I have been lucky enough not to experience one.
Yeah, we had it here, too. Strongest quake of the century!
Ok, since 1968. :)) (I smile because we don't get very many earth quakes-- once about every 10-15 years they said on the news.)
We feel any of the quakes on the New Madrid (Missouri) Fault.
Suzy
Several years ago we were visiting relatives who live near Napa Valley. In the middle of the night the whole house started to shake. Needless to say, we flatlanders freaked out! My brother-in-law, calmly came to our room and said "don't worry, it's a little one." I never want to feel that again!
It was 19...(mumble, mumble...) when I was in a quake. The San Andreas Fault shifted at 6:ish am. I was in bed and I thought my little brother was shaking my bed. My future SIL was in the spare bed in my room. We both started laughing because we didn't know what else to do. My older bro was in the front room asleep on the couch. HE slept throught the whole thing! And the couch had shifted 4 feet into the room.
Later that day my little bro said he heard on the news it was San Andreas's fault.
