This thread was getting too long for dial-up people like me. I let it go thinking it was going to fade away, but with 323 replies, we continue to stroll down memory lane.
If you are new to this thread and you want a music memory blast from the past, we came from here.

What was the 1st record/single you ever bought? part 2
How much is that doggie in the window?
Well here is on nobody else mentioned...my first 45 was Hayley Mills 'Let's Get Together' from the movie 'The Parent Trap'.
I remember the movie, but not the song. Can you sing it for me?
"Let's Get Together"
music and lyrics by Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman
Let's get together, yeah yeah yeah.
Why don't you and I combine?
Let's get together, what do you say?
We can have a swinging time.
We'd be a crazy team.
Why don't we make a scene? Together.
oh, oh, oh, oh
Let's get together, yeah yeah yeah.
Think of all that we could share.
Let's get together, everyday
Every way and everywhere.
And though we haven't got a lot,
We could be sharing all we've got. Together.
Oh! I really think you're swell.
Uh huh! We really ring the bell.
Oo wee! And if you stick with me
Nothing could be greater, say hey, alligator.
Let's get together, yeah yeah yeah.
Two is twice as nice as one.
Let's get together, right away.
We'll be having twice the fun.
And you can always count on me.
A gruesome twosome we will be.
Together, yeah yeah yeah.
That is one of my favorites!
nanny56...Too funny about Hayley Mills and that song ! I have it on a 45. I'll have to get it out and play it. Thanks for the reminder !
(Did you ever see "The Moon Spinners" ? Great film.)
IO1..yes, the Drifters were great, especially that song.
Having had 3 older siblings, I hung on to all the 45's and albums and have about 3000 45's which I guard with my life. Many of them are those hard, old brittle vinyl ones. (I think they're vinyl...)
I think Lesley Gore wins the prize for the most songs with the word "CRY" in the title. She was forever in tears about something!
(She never should have thrown "that party" ! )
Anyone remember The Velvelettes doing "Needle in a Haystack" ???
We're all showing our ages by remembering these great songs !
Me thinks we were fortunate to grow up with this music.
In 30 years, I doubt anyone will remember J Lo or Brittney Spears.
My sister had a 60th birthday party with a LOT of people -- maybe 100? We had a video of old B&W homemmade movies of her (of us all) and I did all the music to go with the video...it showed her at the beach when she was maybe 6? (music V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N) and crying at her birthday party when she was about 4 (It's My Party and I'll Cry if I want to) She was able to dive using no hands, and for some reason, she looked very military -- I think because her hands and arms were at "parade rest" (Blue, Navy Blue) Well, you get the drift - It was HILARIOUS (if I do say so myself!) and a lot of the songs you are all mentioning were on the video.
Suzy
Jasperdale, sure did see the Moon Spinners! Always watched the World Of DIsney on sunday night I think it was. Thomasina(sp) was my all time favorite one they showed.
Johnny Angel was one of my favorites too by Shelley Fabres.
I thought, for a long time, that I was the only one who remembered Thomasina. That's three people in the last 6 months I've heard mention it. I love that movie.
I remember it too...but that little girl creeped me out.
cpartschick - i thing lime in the coconut and with doctores ere two different songs.
ou ou, ou ou ou,lamma lamma ding dong
when i wa stationed in italy in the early sixties we used to go into a bar that had
"donna" by richie valance on the jute box. i remember it was nbr 5 so we would put in tons of quarters or was it dimes and played it all night. it was the biggest hit in the place.
and how about you belong to me. forgot the grtoup that san it but thats was another great song. "see the pryamids along the nile, watch the sunrise on a tropic isle, just remember all the while, you belong to me
Yeah, you are right. Both crazy songs and I liked them both.
And how about "love potion number 9"?
she looked up at me and made a magic sign and told me that what i needed was love potion nbr 9.
Staple Singers had a One-Hit-Wonder called Smiling Faces. I liked that one, too.
Didn't Mac Davis have one called Swamp Witch? Or Swamp Witch Hattie? Something like that...
Whew! My brain...Jim Stafford, not Mr. Davis.
Eartha Kitt (sp?) had a song called "Pata Pata" which was sung in some African dialect...the kids on my street used to dance to it, and try to sing along with it...kinda like "Sukiyaki" by Kyu Sakamoto.
nanny,
I do remember the song now, and you have a lovely voice.
Okay, this is creepy. I am listening to Eartha right now. African Lullaby.
LOL !
Yeah, YOU laugh. I was just re-reading some creepy stories on the other thread about ghosties and ghoulies.☺
...and they're coming to take me away, hee hee, hoo hoo, ha ha.....
to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy to see those nice young men in thier clean white coats. Oh there coming to take me awaaaaaaay.
ROTFLOL Well, as much as I can with the straightjacket on!!!
That was our theme song when I was in the service - bunch of crazy computer nerds, that we were. But we never bought the record, we just sang it loud and with mixed harmony and tonality.
who sang that ???
My older brother had bought it. Must have been '61 or '62 right in there somewhere. (if my memory serves me right)
I remember there was a big "to do" over the idea that the song made fun of crazy people and that people wanted it banned.
I don't know who sang it. (a one hit wonder?)
yeah...it was the crazies who wanted it banned ! Some people are so touchy !
ROTFL!
Funny, I was never offended by the song. They must have been much saner than me.
Napoleon XIV
Napoleon The 14th Lyrics
Remember when you ran away
And I got on my knees and begged you
Not to leave because I'd go berserk?
WELL,
You left me anyhow and
Then the days got worse and worse
And now you see I've gone completely
out of my mind,
AND
[chorus 1]
They're coming to take me away,
Haha, they're coming to take me away,
Ho ho, hee hee, ha ha,
To the funny farm
Where Life is Beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see
Those Nice Young Men
In their Clean White Coats
And they're coming to take me AWAY,
HA HAAAAA
You thought it was a joke,
and so you LAUGHED, YOU LAUGHED
When I had said that losing you
Would make me flip my lid,
RIGHT?
You know you laughed.
I HEARD you laugh, you laughed
You laughed and laughed
And then you left,
But now you know I'm Utterly Mad
AND
[chorus 2]
They're coming to take me away,
Haha, they're coming to take me away,
Ho ho, hee hee, ha ha,
To the Happy Home with Trees and Flowers
And Chirping Birds and basket weavers
Who sit and smile and
Twiddle their thumbs and toes
And they're coming to Take me Away,
HAHAAAAAAAAA
I cooked your food,
I cleaned your house,
And this is how you pay me back
For all my kind unselfish loving deeds
HUH?
Well, you just wait,
They'll find you yet,
And when they do, they'll put you in
the ASPCA, you mangy MUTT,
AND
(chorus 1)
(chorus 2)
(chorus 1, fading)
^_^
