( I meant my comment about the crocus shots for BOTH of you !)
Signs of spring- What do you have blooming?
From our backyard - I was late cutting back the cannas, and was surprised to find two of them in bloom. It's been a fairly mild winter, and 'Tropicanna' seems to be slightly more cold-resistant than my other varieties. The tree is a slowly dying walnut - interesting bark, and it still gives good shade in the summer.

Another view of one of the backyard beds. The nasturtiums collide colorfully with two coleonemas and a cytisus that suffered in the winter, but is starting to bloom again. Variegated erysimum is one of my favorites and actually seems to be more cold-tolerant than standard erysimum. Here it is with the beautiful leaves of a wild arum, which unfortunately has extremely ugly flowers and bright red seedheads, like a short fat corncob. Beautiful, jkom! Makes me excited for spring to turn to summer here in Wisconsin. :)
Wow what an abundance of bloom.Looks like you don't waist space, beauty everywhere.
Two years ago the city offered homeowners a good deal on street trees: they would provide the tree and the hole, and stake it properly, if the homeowners would promise to care for it. Since cutting open the sidewalk is a minimum $150 around here, this was a very good offer so I took them up on it. At one time there were apparently lots of trees on the street, but the developer in the '40's bulldozed them all down(!).
I would have preferred an evergreen, but they gave us a redbud instead. Still, it has very pretty spring flowers. It's a little hard to get a shot of it, unless I position the tree silhouetted against the neighbor's big pine, LOL.
Tons blooming here. I keep my best garden shots on my flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/quiltdiva/collections/72157604117264555/
My favorite thing this time of year are the cactus blooms.

How nice to have the city help you out with your spring garden! And very pretty plant combinations.
And I love the cactus bloom, too. Of course we rarely get to see a bloom on a cactus here in these parts!
I love it when the daffs start to bloom here, gardengus, and I love to pick them and make little bouquets too.
I posted this daff pic on another thread, but I wanted to post it here because this little combination is in a shady spot next to a big shrub and between two houses. The arum and the daff make a nice couple and the forsythia in the background is 'borrowed' landscape from the neighbor. I am always looking for something that will grow in that spot and I think I finally have something--at least for early spring.
Tab, It must be Christmas pearl because of how early it blooms, but the color of blue is so unusual - it's nothing like the pic in the B&B catalog.
sorry, I am sooooo far behind on all the threads. DD was just dumped by her boyfriend and it's been heartbreak city at Our Old House.
She has been going with him since she was 15 (she is now 20), and of course the poor boy (he is just 19) wants to date other girls, but she is devasted.
Anyway, regarding the violas - I confess, I started these inside in January, then moved them outside onto the front porch at the beginning of March.
I wanted something flowering in the garden in April. Even the daffodils haven't started flowering yet. Does spring seem late to you?
jkom- loved your yard and the lovely shots ! didn't see doss' thread so thanks for posting them again for the rest of us to see. I gotta catch us on this forum ! I also love bungalows - I am in the process of building on in the rural area of north Mississippi, behind my mom's , on family property I bought.
I gotta stop looking at all these pictures from zone 8 this morning, getting severe zone-envy.... very pretty, Libby!
Love those poppies. Except for the CA poppies, mine are all still small plants.
Yes, I have peaches on my trees as they bloomed early this year. Here is a shot of my yard from yesterday showing some of the roses and pincushion flowers. I have lots of iris blooming too, can't recall if any are in this shot. Oops, I think I posted this on the rose forum already!

Beautiful as always, Cactus...
'Basco, what are the dark thingies holding your tulips, inside of the basket?

Tabasco, that wire container on the right is wonderful! They are all pretty.
Are you referring to my black plastic cut-up trash bags lining the wire basket?! LOL I haven't camoflaged the plastic with sphagnum moss yet!
You're supposed to ignore it! And thanks for your compliments!
Beautiful day here. I hope everyone has a chance to get into the garden this weekend. t.
It has been a perfect day here too, I spent most of it just watching my cats play outside. Hope everyone can get at least a bit of that into their weekend!
