KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I made it!!! LOL

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I just miss Tammy and her posts. I did not think she would want that just thinking out loud.

(Zone 7a)

Good morning, everyone! Glad you could make it.

Tammy found a new place to hang out and have her questions answered. ☺

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Yep I heard that. I need to check it out.

How is your garden? Is it spring there yet?

(Zone 7a)

It sure is! Hyacinths and daffodils and hellebores. oh my!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Celia I love that hellebore!! I think your hyacinths are muscaris :o)

(Zone 7a)

Yup. Grape Hyacinth. Sorry about the common name. I should know better. ☺ The daffy's are a miniature one called "Tete-de-Tete". They only get 6" high. I need more of the hellebores. They come on so early, it gives one hope for spring! LOL

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I just ordered a bunch more daffs for fall. I planted them allover the place from the local big box stores and discovered I love them. I have some really small ones like you described. Oh and the gophers do not eat them!!

(Zone 7a)

Nice! My store manager has a gopher she's been trying to rid her yard of. FUNNY stories she tells! LOL

Anyone heard from Mau?

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Mau where are you???
My yard resembles caddyshack. I have been known to throw a 2 yr olds tantrum in my front yard because of them!! (Luckily I hav enot blown up my neighbors or my house yet!)

(Zone 7a)

Or shot them with the shotgun?

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

No we actually have done that. I mean the gophers not the neighbors!!

(Zone 7a)

ROTFLOL I almost had a heart attack before I saw your next sentence!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

LOL!!!

(Zone 7a)

That's too funny!

Also funny...I went outside, just now, to check the mailbox and my next THREE neighbors came out at the same time to do just that! LOL It looked choreographed!!!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Now that is funny!!

(Zone 7a)

The REALLY funny part was that the mailman hadn't been by yet!

I have to go to work. Thanks for entertaining me! You're fun. ☺

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Have a great day at work!!

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Hey guys! Don't you love this song?? It seems so, I don't know? Apropos?

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I could not have said it better myself Terry!1

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

The poor gophers, huh? ☺

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Very appropriate, Terry! LOL

In case y'all haven't heard we had a tornado last night. Of course, we didn't know anything about it--slept through the whole thing-- until people started calling us wanting to know if we were okay. Internet and cable tv were out until after lunch which is why I am just now getting on here. If you want to see some pictures I posted about the damage in our neighborhood, go here:

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Yep poor gophers :o)

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Mau I just read online about them. I am glad you are ok.!!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Marie. We are fine. :o))

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I have I said I hate tornados??

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

So do I, Marie. Cabot had a really bad tornado back in 1976 that destroyed the downtown area and killed 4 people. This one was nothing like that although there has been quite a bit of damage from one end of town to the other. A friend told us that some mini-storage buildings were flattened in the southern part of town. School was closed today because trees were down that kept them from getting the school buses out of the parking lot this morning. Also, there was damage to the high school roof. I suppose they wanted to check all the schools and make sure their was no major damage anywhere that would threaten the children.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Maummy!!! You and Pau are fine??? You guys are having way too many tornadoes down there!! I have to ask though, where's the tar paper on your roof? Surely it didn't just come of in the exact same spot as the shingles? If so, I've never seen a roof do that before! Geepers creepers!!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I was driving from Ohio to Pennsylvania one year and caught the outskirts of a tornado. When I finally got away and was able to pull over I found this itty bitty grocery store and it was all the talk that they have on maybe every 20+ years. I asked why they could not of waited until I was done with my vacation. The storms on the outskirts were so bad the car I was driving kept going off the highway. My 2 oldest boys who had barely ever even seen rain were jsut screaming at the top of their lungs they were so scared!!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

What a frightening experience for you and your boys, Marie!

Very sharp of you to notice the "no tar paper", Terry! Evidently the roofers didn't put any tar paper underneath the shingles when they roofed the house!!!! really good roofers, huh? anything to save themselves a few bucks!

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Hit one wrong button and poof, you change pages. sigh.

What roofer wouldn't take the time to add the most important part of roofing to the job? The tar paper? Like our builder in TN said flashing around windows was totally unnecessary. That's why we had none. He also said that Tyvek house wrap was unnecessary and actually made it so your house cannot breathe..

Quoting:
Wrapping a home or building in a weather-resistant barrier is not just good sense, it’s good building practice. Because it helps combat water, moisture and air infiltration that are any structure’s worst enemies. Allowed to penetrate behind siding, wind-driven rain and moisture can saturate walls, creating a breeding ground for mold, mildew and wood rot. The properties of DuPont™ Tyvek® do not support the growth of mold or mildew. Air infiltrating from outside can create comfort-robbing cold or warm spots while increasing heating and cooling costs.

But good ole' Roy says it's not necessary. He said Tyvek lies, it's just a money making scheme, you name it he said it. Why do builders not like me? Hmm...anybody? Anybody know the answer to this extremely difficult question?? O.k. I know it was a hard question, so I'll just answer and not tax anybody's brain. ☺ I KNOW too much and they can't stand that. Me? It's really quite funny to see them squirm, searching their own brain for the proper answer. They never have the RIGHT answer though, that's what's truly funny. Warped sense of humor I have..lol.

Mau, contact the builder just to find out who the roofer was, no other complaint made to him yet. Then contact the roofers. Demand that your roof be re-roofed in the correct way. If they don't, contact the BBB. Heck, contact them anyway. Tar paper is essential in proper roofing, as it's the last water barrier if the water gets in under the shingles. Without it? You have a leaky roof.
