YES Lambs ear 'please'. I know what that is, not on the others, got to look them up. But you know me game for anything. Like they say, Don't like it give it to someone else. LOL
^_^
Whats blooming outside your door
Hi MHF, I'd love a tiny bit of your saxifrage-I'm on a mission now-plant way too many plants! ;) Seriously, it's really adorable. Will you be at any of the other things coming up soon? I'm probably not going to make the plant swap next week, though. That may change, but I'm not counting on it.
Tilly, I will always have plenty of lamb's ear. I love how it feels to rub the leaf, but I have let it go and it has spread out all over and I have lots of extra. How many would you like?
Susy, I'll gladly get a saxifrage going for you. We'll find a way to get together at some point. I'm not sure what events I'll be at, due to family obligations.

How about 4, I have a new project I am working on, not ready to let the cat out of the bag yet, I just haven't had the time to really focus on it, but it has started. Wait till you see the plans for the old trailer. I thought about having a work party but this has now turn into a family thing, they all want to be a part of it. I only get a little time here and there, I think all will love it when it really gets going. And the little guys can spread all they want. I just need to have the time to set and really focus on the plants I want in this area, then I will make a list. I have already taken pics but before I make the list, you all will get to help me make my choices.

Hi MHF, Thank you so much-we can always use the "DG train" again if we have to, that's kind of fun, actually. Do hope to see you again someplace this summer, though. :) Is there anything you're looking for?
79 deg at 5 in the afternoon. CRAZY! Been a beautiful warm day!
Had to call it quits in the yard as I was getting over heated. May do more later if it cools down some. It was in 30's just the other day!
CRAZY! Heard my dogs pant for the first time this year after their walk. Poor little girls... they were so hot. Resting nicely now after a long cool drink. Made lemonade today...sure was refreshing after drinking warm tea & coffee all winter long... Spring is here..but for how long this time... Weather channel says rain sunday night. Guess
all the plants will need a drink by then...
Thanks all for the identity of Saxifrage.. I have several around my pond and I for the life of me could not remember the name. Have written it down..its the only way to remember all these names.
PS.. Got bit by a mosquito ..right on my forehead. Did not even feel it, but I am sure it will look lovely for days!! Darn!
lol, I know what you mean about this weather... felt like we just skipped right over spring and went straight to summer, it was so HOT today! :o(
oneanjl.. Got up to 78 in the house . No breeze tonight to cool of the house. Have the AC running so we can sleep later.
I complain when its cold and complain when it is hot. No pleasing me! Did love the sun however , while it was bearable!
Hope you can get to the tulip festival tomorrow. Is it at Jack London
Square? Hope things cool down for your sake!
Pushed 79° here ( or so the thermometer said) and not too hot for me!
It felt so good to have sun on my skin, and I actually liked sweating.
Ha! You won't hear me saying that come August, though...
oh what i would give to have a repeat of this day for tomorrow.
And why can't it rain at night when we're not in the garden?
We are behind about 2 weeks compared with last year at this time:
Behind ~ schmeehind! Tough beenies for my plants! I put out seedlings that have been hardened for weeks and some that were hardened overnight! HAH! And...I sowed, yes indeed, I sowed seeds today. Hopefully they will germinate but, if not, there's more where they came from. Just felt so great to get outside on a nice warm (comparatively speaking ~ it made it to the low 60s here today) and sunny day, getting hands and clothes and face and socks and shoes dirty, dirty, dirty. Planted the potager beds ~ don't know if everything is going to stay where it is because it was so spur of the moment..."I think I'll plant this HERE!" Don't know if all the plants are going to get along, but they'll make it through this season and we can move stuff next year. We have a "Primrose Lane" bed, where I planted all the primula around some bulbine seedlings. There's a salsa bed, the sweet pepper bed with calendula and nasturtium, and the oh so random beds. Jammed a few more things into the bulb bed...I think it's full now. Now everything can get watered for the next 7 days and hopefully the predicted snow showers for next Sunday and Monday will not materialize and everything will be happy.
Katye ~ We burned many limbs today and everytime I threw thuja on there I thought of you ~
Oh Murmur...I LOVE that hellebore! She is just stunning! I think we have similar weather between Port Angeles and Whidbey. Didn't get much over 60 here today but felt so warm. T-shirt and thought about shorts but not quite.
And Bea ~ such a pretty little creamy face! I'm still waiting for blooms...the only thing I have right now are two hyacinths and whatever I have purchased so far this year!
Katye ~ tulip? Beauty!
tulip from a year ago yesterday. This year they are about two weeks away from blooming, and I was hoping that the weather would stay on the warm side so that they would get coaxed into showing their faces THIS week.
Weather report is for rain all week.
I am sooooo tired - i accomplished much today including burning out the weedeater.
it's an annual event - they go out smoking! Electric weedeaters last me about 1 year. Lighter & easier to start: love the push of a button.
Way to go, Kate...eradicator of weedeaters! I broke my spading fork yesterday trying to dig out a root. Broke the danged metal in two...snapped the fork right off the stem! I'm in the same boat as you with my tulips. They didn't even come up last year, first year planted and late. This year...all have buds but am just waiting. They don't seem to have changed much at all in the past week. My mom's are all out and gorgeous! I have one which I got from my bank last year. Had tons of flowers on it...really pretty. It was the first thing planted in the bulb bed before there was a bulb bed. This year it was the first greenery to show but there's not a bulb on it. Don't know anything about tulips...is this normal?
Gordon,
You need some iris in that gravel...lol
not exactly outside my door..but down the road a bit..
Pictures taken today at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn
Oregon. Festival in progress until 4/27. Those in the area should go!
It was beautiful!

That scillia looks so cool, outta! Do you know the name?
Pooring rain here! Guess its good for all the plants I planted yesterday, but will we ever have to nice days in a row? And even more important, will I ever have two days off in a row?
Outta!! And you a beginner! These are stunning plants, indeed. IN fact, that Pieris is fabulous and I'm not particularly a Pieris fan. However, I may need one of those for one of the back borders. It's beautiful. I, too, need to know the name of the little scilla. That, too, is a stunner. Same with the dh's pick. Very nice camelia! You really know how to pick plants.
Here's what popped open today: Pulsatilla vulgaris 'rubra'. I think I finally learned how to grow them!
Sent the link to that tulip festival to my daughter, who lives in Salem. If she doesn't go I'll want to know why! What a great show. Wish I had time to take another trip down there.
Gordon and Pixy ~ It is Scilla peruviana. I got it last week at Swanson's after the Dunn Garden visit. I think Kathy got one, too. Gordon, I wish I could make it to the swap next weekend but, alas, we are otherwise committed.
Pixy ~ I LOVE the Pulsatilla. I would like to have some but I thought they weren't viable here. Says only to Z6...obviously not true?
Outta, your the greatest! Are you going to Dragonfly on the 27th? If so I can ferry some stuff to you!
By the way, I sent a camellia down to Texas for Dave, and everyone wanted it! mamajack told me she had to beat people back with a stick to keep them away from it!! lol Just a camellia to me! like rhodies and azaleas, have seen enough to last me awhile!I could get 10 nice cannas for one camellia! Nuts ,huh?
Hi Outta I have grown the pulsiltilla for years they are cool. Heidi
Outta, those zone numbers are a little bit misleading. They basically refer to how cold it gets and ignore how hot it gets in the summer. So Zone 6 is much colder in the winter than zone 8. On the other hand, the southern US also has zone 8 and you know how hot and humid they are down there! Just give them sun and very good drainage over the winter. Mine are in a rock garden, so it has very sharp drainage and not too much nutritious soil! It's a bit on the lean side.
Thanks for all the info, gang. Gordon ~ yes I am going to Heidi's on the 27th...wouldn't miss it for love nor money (only for dog training which is this coming weekend).
Pixy. . .I've wondered about the zone thing and have queried on it in previous threads. Just doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I guess I gotta live with it. Apparently a lot of things which need filtered sun or partial shade do just fine here in PA since I'm only a mile from the water and have a marine influence. So it will be "throw the zones to the wind and plant whatever the heck I want!" from here on out. Although my 4 Passiflora caerulea from last year do not seem to be doing much and they are supposed to be okay here. *sigh* Maybe I just have to wait.
Heidi ~ I want to pick up a few (?) things when we come on the 27th. I posted them on another thread but cannot for the life of me remember where. The list, however, has changed a bit. Hope you have the stuff~! I'd love some of the Pulsatilla; Skimmia japonica, male and female; Calluna vulgaris 'Red Fred'; Gaillardia 'Fanfare'(it's on the plant list on your website). I got some 'Fanfare' seeds in a newbie packet. Sowed about 100 of them inside under my kitchen skylight on a heat mat and only 1 has germinated. I will love and nurture this baby and hopefully it will grow, but I would like a few just in case. There are more, I'm sure, but I can't think of anything right now. Can't wait. . .
Well thats nifty Carla! I saw hen houses and roofs athe garden show, but no bird houses! And to use hen and chicks? Very cool!
we have a wild berry growing in our area to that looks like that but the blooms are a dark burgundy color.
