Found this little pansy & a few more scattered around the yard. Must have been scatterd seed from the pansies in my window box's
last year. Looks like a little man.. So Cute!
Whats blooming outside your door
Great pics Pixy - i love the bergenia and the daffs together, so cute. Your triulliums are luscious! Is the yellow leaf on 'solar flare' a new leaf? - gorgeous.
Katie - I can't believe you're going to miss a sunny weekend! - What are you doing down in Corvallis?
That pansy does look like a little man ! : )
beehive, I noticed pansies growing in the cracks of my cement! lol! they self seeded in the lawn, (neighbors too) we must have had some windstorm when thier seeds were ripe last year! I just left them growing it the cracks... I think it looks kinda cute (a pretty weed?! lol!)
oneanjl, I have them in pathways, flowerbeds and even found a few in my raised vegetable beds. Have relocated these to the edges of some flower beds. How's things down in Fremont? I am transplant from Ca last home in Antioch.. Moved here about 18 months ago.
Miss the Bay Area (weather only)..but learning to deal with the rain and occasional snow here in Silverton. A whole new way of gardening...learning lots on this web sight..glad I found the PNW
forum. Helps a lot! Have you been to Regan in Fremont?. Great nursery!
lol, um regans... ya, its about a 1/2 block from me... I can litereally walk there and carry home a tree! Very dangerous! lol! The staff at Regans got tired of all my newbie questions and referred me to DG! lol!
I know what you mean about the difference in gardening. I am trying to plan my moms garden (she lives in WA) and I will be moving to WA in about 3 yrs, 2 mos and ?? days...but I'm not counting! I hate the weather here.
How did you transplant them? mine are literally in the cracks.... would have to break the roots to move them i think...
Where are you going to move to here?
Oneanjl. My pansies all landed in dirt. Have not found them in the cement cracks yet. If I do ...will leave them and let them do their thing. Funny you live so close to Regans. It would be dangerous living so close to a great nursery !! Fremont can get very hot as was Antioch. Do not miss the very hot stuff ! But could use a bit drier
and warm temps up here...just for a little while. Lived in Hayward for about 5 years. Weather not to bad there...cools off in the evening. Had great roses while living there.

Hey tilly, is that 'Curly Locks'? It looks alot like the one I have.
Sorry kitty landed on keyboard, oops
No I got it at Heidi's, having a little trouble with cat and keyboard she is insting to get on it.
I try to find the name on plant files, not there. The tag says Salix Yezoalpina 'Weeping willow' The one they show is a dwarf not mine.
Not Fare. lol
That has been a long process to get the first bloom! My house smells great now too!
hey all......
got a few pics for you tonight. weather was sorta ok, had a bit of sun here and there so got outside and played. found a few more things blooming so here we go! first up is what we call an 'oregon grape' or mahonia nervosa (longleaf or cascade mahonia) very tough and has flowers on it this year!
tills, I love that weeping willow!
We are looking at Port Orchard area. Yes, fremont gets hot....but anything over 72* is hot to me! lol!
What about checking out a little further north?
Great pic's SK, My mango has just started to leaf out of the ground. LOL
Wow you must be lots warmer than I !! My gunnera isn't that far but is starting to leaf out. The flower stem looked just like that last year. Have you ever tried to germinate the seeds? I just learned how and trying it. The key is to keep the seed pod wet and covered up. So far one seed is starting to sprout! Got to love gunneras!!
no.. i havent tried germinating them. will have to look into that. i know a few nurseries i deliver to would buy them when they got to size. (or trade... :) i just divided a bunch of mex. feather grass and this other reed type grass and a carex called cappacino. all i do for that one is just dig out the little starts that blew around my yard and pot them up. sell or trade them when they get big enough!! lol let mother nature do the work.
Heidi at Dragonfly told me about the seed germination. Only way it will work too! More Ma Nature saying" Get out of the way!! I got it!! "
nw... well i think we are, right now your temp is 40 mine is 46 so we do start a bit earlier than you im guessing!
My grandparents lived in Newport and had beautiful gardens always! We used to walk down to Agate beach from their house. THey both worked for the Park Dept and Grandpa made most of the old wood signs for the Parks. I have Otter Crest State park sign in my garden!!
gw.. how cool is that! i love to go to agate beach find lots of 'treasures' there.
I have agates all over in my rock garden. Bigger ones around plants. You can't find them like you could back in the 60's and 70's. There are too many people out there now. I need to drive down and get some drift wood.
Gees, Gordon I thought you would like my Camilla? feel sad. LOL
If i had scrolled up a little more I would have!! Is it Mrs. Cobb? I have two of them going from cuttings here. Saw your contorted willow and just stopped. It is so cool! How tall is it? Mine is in a large square pot but is only about 12 or 15" tall. Cute as the dickens!
My Weeping Willow is 3' tall, not sure of the name of the camilla got her as a 1 gallon pot 17 years ago, didnt think to keep the tag LOl
Tills how far are you from Port Orchard?
Is zone 8a warmer or colder than zone 7? I never understood these zone things... :o(
will the weeping willow grow much taller? and does it flower? I really like that one...
Its a weeping pussy willow, can not find it in Daves plant files, have not tried to Google yet. Heidi said it is differant than the one you see in the cats not invasive or overwelming.
i think, at least the ones ive seen at a local nursery that they are graphed onto a larger truck to make them "weep" so they shouldnt get to much taller? it is very pretty though.. one nursery here has some that are 6 feet tall, stunning in "fuzzy' and blooms next.
This is the name on the tag 'Salix Yezoalpina' When I looked on plant files it showed a Dwarf something. Not mine, Will have to enter it.
