Hey Rach, how about some updates on your work party. would love to see are hard work in progress. Glad you are back.

Shok, she hasn't been in the ground long, I was very surprised to see it.

Coos Bay, OR(Zone 8a)

they are pretty tough plants, it should do just fine! we had some freak arctic weather here over the winter with 3 weeks of freeze and snow and ice (which is really unusaul for this area) and mine came out jsut fine.... although it didnt get as many 'fuzzies' on it as last year so that might be the only effect the cold had on it.

Tils,
I will take some photos on Thursday and post them :0)

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Oh Rach would love to see, as most likely all that was there would love to see how good we did. and how the new plants look, LOL

Skok, Poor baby, hope it springs back. I don't know how long Heidi had this one in the Nursery before I brought it home, and it has gone through the freeze and the snow after I planted it here. I have a couple of plants that have been hurt by this weather, I hope they come back.

Coos Bay, OR(Zone 8a)

tilly... thanks... but it is doing just fine now. getting alot of green on it now. :)

Snohomish, WA

I have salmon berry if anyone wants it!!

I'm not sure I'd call it either delicate or well-behaved as I have it encroaching in several places in the yard. But it is pretty. I think the berries are too tart for nibbling, but they might make for some good cooking with sugar added.

Beautiful pictures, everyone.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Hey Gordon, I think you need to start part 2 of this tread taking a long time to load LOL

Heres a new pic of my Camilla. All kinds of flowers.

lol kate....... we have salmon berry growing wild around here. go and pick it along with huckleberries and blackberries in late summer. yummmmmmmm and lots of purple stained fingers!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Lots of it growing wild around here, too.

I'll try them again - maybe I just like more sugar than other people. But I've not been too thrilled with either my salmon berry or my thimble berry. I have lots of huckleberry, too. And this year, thanks to a little help from my friends, I'll have lots of evergreen huckelberry. Yum!!

Coos Bay, OR(Zone 8a)

you like blueberries. there is an evergreen variety out thats sweet and the foliage is really pretty when its cold.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9b)

mmmmm, I love huckleberries. We would hike every year on Mt. Hood for them, we got lost one year - my mom would always scream if she saw a snake, drop her huckleberries. hysterical.... it felt like we walked for hours & hours.. but I was always glad to eat the huckleberry pancakes, syrup and cobbler !

Coos Bay, OR(Zone 8a)

oh yummm....
i had never even heard of huckelberries until i moved here 3 years ago. we jsut picked them last year and my mom made huck. pie......... OMG what a treat!!!!! took so many though, but worth it. i like how they pop when you eat them :P

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

We picked blueberries in Alaska when I was a kid. I didn't like them then, probably because they pop when you eat them. :-)

But now . . . I have one bush. My neighbors have several huge bushes. Last year, though, they got some form of disease so there weren't many. Hoping that this year will be better.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

ooh..you guys are making me homesick!

Huckleberries!!!!!!! I'm from Seattle orginally-
use to spend lots of time in Lake Stevens where my Uncle had a rasberry farm.....
We use to go into the woods and pick Huckleberries, salmonberries, blackberries!
Have family in Marysville, Woodinville, Bellingham
Is the weather getting better yet?

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

RJ
The weather is trying to get better. Today we had some sunshine, supposed to be back to rain tomorrow. But that's why it's so lush and green all year. Welcome to the PNW forum :0) How long have you been in Texas? Rachel

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Rachel
I've been here a while since 1989...
But I work for Continental (yeah merger mania going on) so I get home often..
My folks were just visiting from Seattle a couple weeks ago!

Welcome, rjudd - check out our calendar so you can attend some gardening events when you're up here next:

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/820531/

We sometimes have workparties and tours of local nurseries and people's homes. And this weekend we're going to Jacquie's for a plant swap and potluck. Would love to meet you. Maybe we need to have a huckleberry pickin' date put on the schedule!!!

It's been a crazy spring - warm and then snowy. There's a prediction for cold temps and a little snow this Saturday. Last weekend it was 80. Go figure.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Rjudd - please package up & send a little of that wonderful Texas sunshine for us.
We'll save some huckleberries for you!
