Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

well the dog digs better, doesn't he? lol.

greenthumb, what am i sending you for that most coveted plant? lol.

Elkins, AR

Anything but your husband LOL!! 1 is all I can deal with! I don't know. I'll check out your list. I'm trying to go lower maintenance outside and am going to more hardy flowering shrubs. Seed or cuttings of that sort of thing, lillies, daylilies etc, that sot of thing. Easy hard to kill stuff.

Browns Mills, NJ(Zone 6b)

Lol, ---- I did't feed mine tonight so he will be lighter for shipping---- I just woke mine up laughing so hard. All I can say about all of this is that my husband is the gas plant.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

roflmao. my gypsy, that is not nice. remember him the way he was on that day long, long ago. lol.

o.k. greenthumb, it's a deal. lmk. i prob. need to go read our old thread. i am really glad you reminded me of this.

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Hey y'all I got a great box from greenthumb to day and when I say box full I mean it. So generous and I am really excited about potting the up.

What is it with the gas plant I have been trying to geminate the seed for a month and no success. Will It root from a cutting hint hint Teri?

Mamajack you are the best plant collector I know. I am lucky if I know what half of mine is. You are right about the different hibiscus hardy and the none hardy the same old ones are offered every year . Ibought some seeds of some exotics off ebay.Even the co-op at yahoo was the same ones. I don't know where those people on the hibib forum gets those beautiful plants. Noone on ebay was selling any.

Browns Mills, NJ(Zone 6b)

mamajack, remembering......he was that way back then too. :^0 But great in every other way:-)

Warren, OH(Zone 5b)

Does DH stand for Dumb Husband , I see it in the posts alot?
Kathy

Browns Mills, NJ(Zone 6b)

I always assumed it was but I'm ususally wrong and don't have the computer lingo down. So I will learn right along with you.

Warren, OH(Zone 5b)

I wasn't sure if we were allowed to write so I wrote dam, lol

Slidell, LA(Zone 8b)

And here I thought it was for Dear Husband - guess it can stand for any of the three, depending on your feelings at the moment LOL

Browns Mills, NJ(Zone 6b)

oops, there I go not thinking again! I saw a long list along time ago with all the acronyms (spelling) and I thought it said dam.... :) I didn't know what anything meant. This was the first blog/chat site that I had been to. I wish I had it bookmarked. I was something like "computer lingo cheatsheet" or something like that. I've been been trying to decode them since.

Browns Mills, NJ(Zone 6b)

like mammajacks roflmao. Rolling on the floor laughing...... then what?

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

cindy, you need a plant on that gas plant. they can take years to bloom. when i get mine i will try some cuttings. my son jack is gonna love that plant. lol. and the reason i can collect so many plants is because i don't have a dh....and you can insert the "d" word of your choice.

mygypsy, somebody somewhere on daves could probably direct you right to that site. i never worry about it as if someone writes something i don't get i just ask. dh and dd and dsil had me so confused for so long. after i got the courage up to ask that one i never stopped. they might think i'm stupid but they never say so. so that emboldens me. like i needed that. hey cindy, did you see where i was a trademark? lol.

Browns Mills, NJ(Zone 6b)

Aha, I found it, FYI http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/118351/
DH does mean Dear Husband. Thats good to know. I never used it because I thought it was the other.
I didn't post the link to the sight directly here because it was a little "R" rated, so I posted the DG thread it was on. ;-)

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

MamaJack you are well deserving of a trade mark!!!! Best djer I know.

Elkins, AR

Riverland, I can tell you the dictamnus(gas plant) has a double dormancy and takes 2 full seasons to germinate. 90 days cold then 90 days hot then 90 cold andthen hot again. They're not easy to germinate. If you don't see it in walmart its cusz its tricky to start from seed. They can be done by cuttings and division. If any one wants to try cuttings give me a holler. Mine is just starting to poke up thru so it'll be a while yet. Mine bloomed the 2nd year.

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

I'm first in the lineup for a cutting. Glad you told me that about the seed. I will just go dump those in the flower bed. Nothing that takes a long time to germinate is welcome in my glass room. Space is only for producers LOL.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I have gas plant seeds too but I didn't realize they take so long to germinate. I winter sowed some so at least the Gaint Swallowtail cats can benefit from them. Cindy, I had to put mine in a baggie of damp sand and sat mine in the frig, first. I remember doing that, but I don't remember where I read that cold strat was the thing to do. Even though I winter sowed afterwards, we just don't keep consistantly cold winters here.

Edit to say germinate...also, I may need to go and check my containers to see if any are up.

Poor mama her plant is shrinking!!! You can always thru a bunch of seeds in a spot you'd like to have them and let nature take its course. Thats why plants produce 1000's of seeds but only a few actually germinate and make more plants. Then there's those things you just can't stop from ramping!! I'm a little behind on boxes for newbies, hubby was off today and had the 3 yr.old grandie, didn't get much done if you can imagine that!!LOL!!

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

My problem with letting nature grow it is I get over zealous weeding and lose a lot of self sow that way.

Elkins, AR

Know the feeling, or I get behind and "roundup" things accidently.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

greenthumb, you just go on ahead and get them some cuttings. i prefer a plant cut back anyway when it's shipped. so there all you would be plant takers,i just ruined your fun. lol.

Warren, OH(Zone 5b)

ooh ooh, THANK YOU MAMA!!

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Thank you Mama

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Mama you are something else, Thank you.

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

I almost forgot, thank you for the cutting, Teri.
