Same here ~ We seem to be slower although the weather has been lovely for the past week or so...

The first Iris bloom and it beat out the cemetery white Iris which is usually early.

The "purples" seem to be taking off...

The spiderwort blooms are sharing. Yes, I know they are invasive but I don't care. I love them when they bloom and mow them when they spread. LOL

This older stand of wild violets are really showing out....

And the Spirea ~ bridals wreath is loaded with buds and beginning to open... I'm not seeing many bees though.

I really like this Verbena but don't know what it is... It has a ferny foliage and is a sprawling low grower.

I know this girlie takes over but I like it when it blooms. Just drawing a blank on the name at the moment. And no, I didn't plant it...

I moved many of my potted plants out yesterday and found an amazing amount of them in bloom. As many are house plants, I won't post their photos but this petunia apparently reseeded from last summer and has one open bloom.

When I caught a whiff of it, it stunned me at how strong and wonderful it smelled. Made me want to pull up a chair and breath deeply. Just one bloom on it. The last one for now... Daddy Blue ~ can you smell it from here????

I've been visiting and loving the photos on this thread and not commenting. How rude huh! My irises aren't blooming yet, but I sure enjoyed all of yours. I love the petunia seedling, Podster. I was thrilled yesterday to discover two tiny impatiens seedlings already blooming near a spot where I had a pot of impatiens last summer. Most of my impatiens didn't freeze this year --weird eh?

Here's one of the surviving impatiens

Here is the first bloom on my Ebb Tide rose. I just planted it about a month ago, so I don't get any credit for growing it, but it's spring to me when a new rose blooms for the first time!

Pod, need your help. Have a 6 year old Lady Banksia Rose on the arbor. It has been just loaded with buds. Went out this morning and there are unopened buds all over the ground. Nothing has bloomed. This has never happened before. Any clues?

This has been blooming all winter, but I can't resist sharing. In the last few days, several people have come to my back gate to talk to me (a very spring-like thing to do!) and everyone has asked what that "red thing" is. It blooms so heavily and so often that I turn around looking for the red thing and it takes me a minute to realize what they're talking about. It's sad when you take good plants for granted! Here's a close-up of the red thing - an unnamed red abutilon.

Christi, I just read about your tragedy! Mine is starting to bloom too and I can feel your pain. It's hard to wait all year and then have something like that happen! I have had squirrels eat all the buds off of my roses, the leaf buds of hydrangeas and azalea blossoms. Sometimes they pull them off and drop then drop them. I hope you find out whats happening and still have enough roses to enjoy.

Wow, Pod, your tradescantias are already blooming?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Lots of wildflowers are starting to bloom here. Those spiderworts are sheltered with ample sun so are probably ahead of the game. But then all my potted Trades are in bloom too. Purple heart, the variegated and the white all have blooms.

Elphaba ~ you are going to keep it up till I am convinced I need an Abutilon ~LOL You too must be in a microclimate for the Impatiens to endure winter. How fun. Glad too that you joined us. More photos please... 8 )

LouC ~ sweetheart ~ I am so sorry on your Lady Banksia. I am no help. I have never grown roses so no idea... I've a thorn aversion. But I am certain a "rose wizard" will come along with assistance. Hope it is no more serious than a rogue squirrel. My sympathy.... pod

Scruffy looking shrub with miniscule blooms ~ fragrant tho. Sweet olive ~ Osmanthus fragrans.

My Homestead Verbena is ablaze in color right now.

Pod, I do go on and on about my abutilons! I keep trying to make myself stop, but they just call to me when I'm out there with my camera! Love the fragrance of sweet olive. My neighbor has huge grapefruit trees that are blooming now. They make me dizzy with their wonderful fragrance.

Carla, your verbena is lovely.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Citrus blooms are delightful! Do the Abutilons have any fragrance?

Loonie ~ that is a gorgeous Verbena ~ my favorite color.

I've no idea what these are. They bloom each year in the same spot. A very pretty in pink wildflower.

This is an up close of the above wildflower.

So, I see on the weather they have lowered the forecast Wed nite to mid 30s. I did lose my mind this weekend and move so much out! Grrrr...

What? We are anticipating hail and high winds here at any minute. Easter never lets us down.

Podster, is it perhaps a type of star flower? It's beautiful whatever it is. I'll attach a pic of my blue star flower from last year. It's not blooming yet this year and doesn't look happy at all -- brugmansia is shading it too much now.

Abutilons, alas, have no fragrance. Otherwise, they would be the perfect plant in my mind!

Here's another bit of spring -- it's what I believe is a wild strawberry.

Beautiful Blue Star ( Amsonia ? Not the creeping one Laurentia? ) I tried some from seed last year ~ bombed miserably...

There is a wild strawberry here. Picked a few and sampled them. Promptly spit them out ~ what a bland tasteless texture.

LouC ~ hoping your weather isn't too severe. The wind is blowing ferociously here. I've opened all the windows and it is rearranging the dust bunnies. Probably coating all with yellow pollen too!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

I think it's ipheion uniflora, and there is a white version although I can't find a picture of it.

Those strawberries are strictly for the critters! I do love those yellow flowers though.

I keep telling myself to start getting ready for the bad weather, but I'm so hot that I can't take a cold front seriously. I hope for everyone's sake that it isn't as severe as predicted.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Now that's an idea. My dust bunnies are beginning to look like they have babies.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL LouC ~ wonder if I can open doors to and just let the bunnies blow outtahere...

Ipheion is not the one I was thinking of ~ very pretty tho.

I caught this picture this a.m. Not showy but a volunteer redbud tree is in bloom in our yard and the heart shaped leaves are opening. "Hearts and flowers"...

Lou, I just posted on the av forum that winds are being clocked at 68mph now and the hail and rain won't get here until tomorrow morning. My brother said that the winds were 40mph at six o'clock this morning when he left the house. I spent half the day taking every plant on the porch down to the floor and they still may not make it through this.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

I will hope your plants make it. We are only gusting to 25 mph right now and I had two hanging baskets crash to the floor. What lies ahead?

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

You know I hadn't thought to open the windows. That's a great idea. BTW we call them ghost turds.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

ROF~LOL ~ I love it! That is rare... 8 )

From the weather reports the whole nation is going to "get it". Just started raining here this very minute. Has had me worried this morning. Very dark and waaay too still. Like before a tornado. I have lived through 3 right here in this house. Don't want to add #4 ever. It "smells" funny outside.

Good luck to everyone in this spring storm. My Louisiana iris Full Eclipse opted to open today of all days. It's the only one with a bud though, so I guess the rest will bloom in April. I'm glad I got a snapshot of it to enjoy before it gets pummeled by the storm. Stay safe.

Elphaba, that is a beautiful iris. What a lovely color.

It has been raining a deluge for hours in north Texas -- the eastern Dallas suburbs have gotten just shy of 3" so far. It's supposed to rain all afternoon and into the evening. Spring has sprung!
