Spring Has Sprung! .... at least i hope so!!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

The N. longifolia bloomed all winter thru February. The N. gracilis has bloomed only in the summertime. Not sure if this is a common trait.

Thanks for the "walking" info.

Gessie ~ there is nothing prettier than the desert when clothed in springtime blooms. Very pretty. Glad to, to see that your Hoyas survived the winds. Pretty plants.

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Gessie, all beautiful. Are the Hoyas in the ground? If not, do they grow in pots?

I kept all my potted plants and baskets on the front porch this winter and wrapped poly (6 mil) around the screened in front porch. I took the poly down two weeks ago and I hung the hoyas and epis in the trees this past Saturday.

We will find out if they survive our spring winds and do well..............All the hoyas are in baskets. I do fertilize them year around.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

I already gave up and put my few epis outside a while ago. The winds knocked off some branches, but they'll probably be OK. I'm glad that you're putting stuff out Gessiegail b/c I was unsure of my decision. I'm putting my outdoor orchids back outside today except for the ones that are blooming. I figure if they decided to bloom after I put them inside for the winter, they must like it inside right? I have a hoya that I left out all winter and it did fine, but that's probably just dumb luck.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

I have found some types of Hoya are more cold hardy so maybe not just dumb luck. LOL Mine just don't bloom this early, I am so amazed at your blooms Gessiegail. You overwinter them just right it sounds like.

I had moved plants out here too. Last night they forecast high 30's and I couldn't stand it. Was out at 11 putting plants away and covering. Wonder how many more times.... LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I was scared to put anything out until the night temps didn't fall below 50 degrees. I kept space heaters all winter on the porch trying to keep the temps around 50 degrees..........I am sure that is why (with the south sun shining through on the porch) that my hoyas just kept blooming all winter and now.............

This was a little dried up stick last year when my wife bought it at Lowe's for 10 cents.

Beautiful clematis! I can't believe that you got it for 10 cents!

My lavendar has just started to bloom. Don't ask me what kind -- I don't remember as usual!

My wife bought four different kind, just barely alive for 10 cents each and they are all coming back out this year.

That is a GREEN thumb!

Seems I need to be visiting Lowe's more often.

This is the first coneflower bloom of the season. I found it hiding under Echinacea foliage and spent Daffodils. Seems a bit shy.

I found the yellow walking iris N. longifolia has flower buds on it today. Noticed it while moving it outside after last nights high 30s. I took this photo of the plantlets "walking"...

Oh gosh, pod. I don't even remember where I planted the seeds you sent. That's ok. They are in a good place wherever and I can't wait to see them bloom.

Neat. I have never seen this before.

When did you graduate from A&M?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

She hasn't answered yet so I will tell you that I graduated from UT Austin in 1964........with my love of gardening I should have gone to A&M but I wasn't into gardening when I was 18!

Our family is evenly divided between Aggie graduates and Texas graduates. Many moons ago we used to watch the football game at Thanksgiving together. The family grew and grew by several generations and now the Longhorns gather at my older brother's house here and the Aggies go to my cousin's house for the sporting events.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Gessie, I wish we could go back to A&M for the TU game and the bonfire. I miss that so much. Those were really exciting years. After we graduated, DH went in the army and for most of the next 11 years we were much to far away to get back to A&M for a football game. We couldn't spend many Thanksgivings with family either because of the distance.

I had no interest in gardening at 18 either. Not even at 28.:) By the time I turned 38 though we had moved here and finally I had a yard to play in and atleast a little bit of time.

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

sorry guys, i couldnt get to the computer. i graduated in 1989, omg, sounds so long ago doesnt it? yeah, i was there during the Jackie Sherrel (?) days, we didnt lose a game to tu from my freshman year until after i graduated. i remember standing in Kyle Field with cotton floating on the wind as we won a game that put us in the Cotton Bowl! those were good times. of course, i dated a guy in the corp the whole time, so not only was i standing, but in a dress and heels too!

have a couple of new pics i took yesterday, so here they are. :)
